  • Sam's Club

11/19/17

I was a sam's club member years ago. Now I remember why I never renewed my membership. My online order on 11/11/17 originally had a delivery date of 11/16. I checked the order status every day and the date moves... now it's 11/29. You're better off getting it in store if it's available. If it's not available in store, just know that you may or may not get your order in time for your planned trip, gift, etc. With my last membership that I had years ago, I was promised that my "in store pick up" order would be available within the day. I ordered that morning. In the evening, 2 hours before store closing, I went to the store to pick up my order and was told my order wasn't ready for pick up until the next day. I just cancelled the order and make the purchase in store. Basically, I wasted so much time ordering online for in store pick up, which was supposed to be ready for me to pick up so I don't have to come and shop. I never renewed my membership because I don't really care for their bad customer service. This year, I decided to give them another chance, hoping that their customer service is better. It is NOT. I ordered my Segway MiniPro on Nov. 11,2017. They gave me an estimated deliver date of 11/16. Then it moved to 17, then 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, now 29. Every day I check, I get a later delivery date.

This explains why every time I actually visit their store, I never have any problem finding a parking spot near the entrance. Their parking lots are always at least half empty every single time I visit them whether it's near opening time, in the middle of the day, or near closing time.

Costco, on the other hand, is the membership I have kept since 2000. Whenever I order something online, I ALWAYS get it earlier than their estimate date. For example, when I order the iPad Pro 10.5 from them on the 9th, I got my order on the 10th even though the estimate was 3-5 business days. With Costco's estimate, I wouldn't have receive my order until at least 11/14. Their customer service is also top notch. That is probably why whenever I visit a Costco store, I almost always have trouble finding a parking spot or wait for someone to leave before I could even park.

Amazon is a great place to get what you need at a great price. Their customer service is great. You can get products that you need at great prices and Amazon stands behind everything they sell. However, like eBay, Amazon is notorious for scalpers who buy products and then resale them for hundreds over MSRP due to shortage of these items. Apple products and Nintendo products come to mind... If you want something, be sure to purchase them from legitimate sellers. Don't fall for scalpers which Amazon should not allow. That is the reason I deduct a point from this review. Scalpers are the reason why we can't buy products at the MSRP prices... they buy up the supply dry and resale them for much higher prices. If Amazon and eBay don't allow these scalpers to do business on their sites, consumers would still have a chance to buy these at fair prices.

You cannot go wrong with an Apple product. I have owned several iPads, several iPhones a couple of Apple Watches, iMac, Mac Mini, Macbook, MacBook Air, Macbook Pro, and even several Apple TVs as well as their Airport Express. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them will works, albeit the older ones are slow since they're over 9 years old. Even my 9 year old iMac still runs great both MacOS and Windows OS. That's quality! The iPhone 4 that I purchased for my then girlfriend now wife still works. We've upgraded our iPhones every two years, but the older ones that we passed onto loved ones are still running great. At this point in time, my oldest Apple product is 9 years old and still working. I have NO dead Apple product as of this writing.

This site has fair prices on items that are sold at MSRP price. I only shop on this site because I don't have to pay tax. However, their daily sale items kept me coming back. For that reason, it's a great place to shop if you're looking for a particular item on sale.

However, they have horrible customer service. If you shop on Amazon, you'll get your item on time or they give you compensation for items that arrive late or if something goes wrong with your order. BHphotovideo only apologizes for delays or problems with your order. You will only get frustration as your order arrives late or your "sales" item order cancelled at your request. For example, two weeks ago, I ordered a $300 item that was only sale for $155. I paid $20 shipping because apparently "everything ships free" except for that item that I ordered. UPS screwed up my shipment and damaged it in the process. They never deliver or attempt to deliver the item. They just returned to sender without my consent. I contacted BHphotovideo to send replacement for "damaged" product and they said that they will not send me a new one. They will attempt to resend the shipment that UPS said had been damaged once they receive the shipment back from UPS. I asked them to just contact the manufacturer to send me a new one. They said that the item is discontinued and they will not be able to order another one for me. I sent them a link to the manufacturer's website for the exact item that they said is discontinued. The item is actually still available from the manufacturer and ready to be added to cart and shipped. The representative with whom I chat said that he was unable to open the link I sent (I copied and pasted directly from my browser). So all in all, I will not receive my order and they refused to send me a replacement because they ran out of stock and refused to contact the manufacturer to send me a replacement. You can shop with them at your own risk. They have great deals on some very specific products but you may or may not get your order if someone goes wrong.

  • Costco

I've been a Costco member for 17 years. In fact, I'm an executive member. My membership is FREE after I receive cash back for my purchases.

Their customer service is top notch. I can return any item at any time even after you have eaten half the chicken or used up half the salad. If you purchase a tent and put a hole in it, you can return it, no question asked... well, they ask what's wrong with the item but they will not point fingers if you said there's a hole in the tent. (This was a real scenario that I witnessed as I was in the return line to return a different item that I no longer need).

You cannot go wrong with a Costco membership.

I'm currently a diamond member of Yugster. I really enjoy Yugster's sales and their items. The junk box is something I really enjoy as I always get more than I paid. The last box I got gave me two power strips and several other useful items for only $20. The power strips alone already cost more than the $20 that the junk box cost. They ONLY thing I don't like about Yugster, which is the reason why I only gave it 4 stars, is that every item comes with a shipping cost and shipping costs do not combine. If I buy 3 items that are identical and the shipping cost for each item is $3, I'll end up paying $9 shipping, which is very unreasonable. Other than the shipping/handling issue, I love Yugster for everything else.
