I responded to an ad for an oil change, rotate tires, 42 point checklist inspection. I went for lunch rather than sit in the waiting room. While at lunch, Mike from the shop called and said I need FOUR new tires for $600--the car will not pass inspection I was told. I declined, planning to go elsewhere for tires. When I returned to the shop, Mike told me there were TWO tires that needed to be replaced and that was reflected on the form he gave me. Again I declined. I then drove to an inspection station and the car passed.
