“Good luck finding a tutor.”

I've been trying to find a Spanish tutor for my daughter. I came across this website and have had no luck. One tutor was supposed to show up last Friday. Never did. She recheduled for today and again did not show up. She made up excuses for not being able to make her appointments. Finally I got one with another lady and she spent the whole hour searching for a Spanish book and did zero tutoring. What a waste of my time and money.

So long story short, I wanted to be a tutor on their platform so I submitted all of the information they asked for and I finished a few tests they had, and after a few weeks they told me that my bio is not completed enough so I completed that and after about 10 days, they said I don't have a vetting experience, which essentially means I didn't provide them high scores And different tests but the problem here is that I was offering to do math for elementary school, middle school and high school and similar courses. So overall terrible terrible experience and I do not recommend.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this online tutoring company that left me utterly disappointed and frustrated. It is my duty to warn others about this terrible service, marked by abysmal response time, a complete waste of time, unqualified staff, and a company that seems more interested in spamming customers than providing any actual help.

I tried receiving help from several PhD experts in data science/R and causal inference. None of them understood basic R syntax, anything in my research even though I shared all the data, code, and write ups they requested. Some charge $200 an hour! The code advice is often wrong, clunky.

If I could give a lower rating I would. There is nothing more frustrating than working with a company that does not allow for direct communications. There is no phone number and all communication is via an automated response from a robot. Hey Wyzants, get 'wise' and hire a human. Lord knows you make enough money to do so.

Tip for consumers:
Do not give you money to, or use a site that does not list a phone number or have a customer service system that allows for direct communications.

I logged as student account and search for tutor. They have good fit guarantee policy which is totally a false policy they have. I got tutor for the first session as consultation. When i did not find the strategy i am looking for from the teacher teaching mr i ask for good fit guarantee, they closed my account and informed the tutors not to do business with a student. I did not get my money as well since they credited to the account and closed it.Such professionalism in education i have never seen, will never recommend using their tutor services. Better too search school or university or local tutors.

Tip for consumers:
I had my exam coming up this month end and on name of tutors they open a business with good fit guarantee. But you cannot even find tutor as the tutors i looked did not have that experience teaching strategies or boost your score. Also their websites do not even have the leverage finding those tutors of the particular section of the exam you want help until you do not talk to the tutors if they are able to help. JUST MONEY BUSINESS.

They refused my application as a tutor and told me that I do not meet the vetting requirements. It is very sad to see a company using a non-solid reason as a back door to kick you out of the platform. I submitted my application three times and still get refused for no sensible ground.

Both my son and daughter's accounts were abruptly closed within a single day, and the reasons provided seemed quite extreme. My daughter's account was closed due to her sharing it with her brother, prompting us to open a separate account for him. Regrettably, this account was also closed, with the explanation that tutors were not permitted to assist students with their assignments. My son had diligently completed all of his summer assignments but encountered some difficulties that required assistance.

Furthermore, the customer service experience was notably unsatisfactory, characterized by a discourteous representative who abruptly ended our phone call on two occasions.

Why would Wyzant suspend my tutor account after I pass their Maths, Excel, French and Algebra?t
Did nothing wrong, maybe because an African sounding name, I shouldn't apply to tutor at Wyzant?

This needs to be investigated to see if some other people have not been treated same way, we will see if there is a case for a class action lawsuit.
So if you are a tutor or student and was discriminated by Wy\zant, you should jioin to take a group legal case.

If you register as a tutor on this website, they charge you 25% of your tuition every time. Have you ever been taxed this much even you only earn $35? No you don't. But wyzant absolutely will give you such experience! What's more, the so called algorithm is so stupid that your application might never arrive at the students! But some other tutors can hit the applications every time no matter how well you follow the "guidance" of "successful application"! Don't trust it if you think you are just a common tutor. You will never understand the rules of its game.

I got everything set up, including taking qualification tests for math, languages, and other areas that I can tutor. Submitted a photo back in May 2023 too. When I logged in again in July 2023, I noticed that my photo was still "under review", so I sent the customer service an email to check. Next thing I know, my account gets fully deactivated due to their user agreement 18(a). I followed up and they just gave a vague answer and said that I can reapply in 6 months.

After that much time spent setting my profile up just to get shut down before I even started tutoring, I'm definitely never using them again.

I was a tutor on the website for a few months. I had a five star average, tutored many students from high school to grad school, from college to professionals, and I was a highly-seeked top tutor in my area of expertise. I was always kind towards my students, and always did my best to be fair towards all of them. I never charged a student unless I was 100% sure that I needed to. One day, I got an email from Wyzant indicating that they are banning my profile within the following month. No reason given at all. They cited paragraph 18g of the Independent Tutor Agreement, which simply says, "Wyzant can ban tutors at any time, for any reason". So, I know that I haven't done anything wrong because otherwise they would cite another paragraph in the agreement.

I was a TOP tutor in mathematics and computer science, which is what basically most students use the website for. I always did my best to avoid academic honesty policy violations, meaning that I always rejected a student's request to do their homework for them. Not only I rejected such requests, but I also reported these students to Wyzant (which is what Wyzant asks you to do). When there are many tutors on the website that will go against the academic honesty policies and simply do students' homework for money, it is interesting that I am the one that is getting banned from the website. Discrimination, opacity, and unfairness lie at the very core of this $#*!ty website.

I tried to reach out to them for 30 days, sending them tens of emails, calling them many many times, just to learn why I was being removed from the website. They didn't respond once. No correspondence, no one explained why I was being banned, and there is no way to reach out to the decision makers - you just talk to the call operators. The only email I got was 30 days later, on the day that my profile was permanently banned.

On the student side, they take your payment information, and hold onto it. You can't message a tutor unless you have your payment information on your account added. Even if you remove it, they will have it on their record, and will charge you a bunch of different things, one of them being "cancellation fees", which will cost you hundreds of dollars, and you can't reverse/appeal them.

Wyzant is a $#*!ty website for both tutors and students. They don't treat you well. You can't reach out to anyone in the company for help. They will say they will get back to you, but they never do. And if you are a tutor, you will suddenly get banned from the website all of a sudden for no reason even if you haven't done anything wrong.

$#*!, Wyzant.

Do not appreciate Wyzant. They take a large percentage of the tutor's pay. Regarding their teachers, mainly of them cannot teach a professional lesson. The company Takelessons has much more professional teachers. Go to Takelessons to find your teacher!

I sent multiple messages to different tutors. One set up a time then blew me off, another deleted all my work and rewrote it leaving tons of mistakes, the rest put my messages in a loop so they could increase their their hourly rate. Meaning I cannot contact them because my previous message was sent at old pay rate. This site is a joke!

My first experience with WyzAnrt was generally good. My tutor from that session was busy so I reached out to a new tutor. I asked that the person "walk through" each operation on a take home excel test and see if i was doing them right. The site accused me of asking the tutor to take my test for me. I explained that I was never told that review the test content was against policy and that my intent was not to have the tutor take ity for me. I received no warning or second chance. WyzAnt would not reconsider.

I posted a thread on wyzant's forum yesterday but it was deleted by wyzant. I complained about the so-called support team's bad work in my thread. During the last year, my applications were ignored by the application system for countless times but the team never admitted it even I showed proof of that through my student accounts. I required answer of how they came to know my account worked well since they emphasized to me that they couldn't see into students' emails, and why they never responded to the screenshots of my applications that were ignored and those of other tutors which were always sent to my student accounts. Obviously they knew there's unfairness and mistakes in the whole application system and there work. That's why they insisted that my account works normally; that's why they refused to answer my emails to provide any assist; and that's why they deleted my thread I posted on August 6. DON'T believe wyzant which only cares about getting money from students and keeps cheating tutors! This is the WORST website I have ever known!

You are expected to write the student's paper for them, and if they are unhappy with it, you get a low rating. Try to correct that. Wyzant doesn't care about the tutors, just about keeping the students coming back the next time a paper is due. That's what you see: "My paper is due in two days, can you help me?" "Help" means to write it for them. Difficult to get students. Policies favor the student or Wyzant, not the tutor. Better to put a ad on a local bulletin board.

I was able to get a couple of gigs on the platform. Made over $100 after fees, but before I could cash out they deactivated my account. I was contacted by a student, Wyzant claims was a fake or spam account. They deactivated the student account and informed me they would also deactivate mine for agreeing to help that student. I tried to explain to them that it was a mistake and get them to reactivate my account but they did not and kept the $100+ worth of tutoring funds on my account.
So disappointed that I went through all the trouble of signing up, taking their test, and seeing my account deactivated after I even spent time tutoring on there. Really bad experience.

Tip for consumers:
Stay away from the platform. You go through the trouble of signing up and even invest time in teaching, yet they will deactivate your account overnight with no refund and keep the funds.

I joined Wyzant to tutor students. It took over 12 days to get approved, and emails to customer support were unanswered. I googled the issue and found many teachers do not use the site because of lack of customer support. I was approved finally and I began anyway. Soon I found students who were spamming or messaging inappropriate things. But there is no way to block or stop the messages. I wrote to customer support but no response. I have never heard of a site that allows messaging but won't all the receiver to block for safety. Three days later Wyzant responded telling me they closed my account. This means I lost contact with 11 students I was tutoring. When I try to login it will not allow it. I have messaged customer support and I got this message below. So they closed the acct but can't fix it. They don't even know why it was closed. I have never heard of such. Also, it notes they will respond in 3-5 days. I have 3 sessions for tutoring set for this evening and the parents will not understand why I didn't show up. I would not recommend this site to teachers or professional tutors. They need to work on tutor safety and also improve their customer service.

I tutored on Wyzant for a few weeks years ago. I got several in-person tutoring jobs, so I stopped tutoring through them since they take a portion of your profits. Then COVID hit and I decided why not go back to Wyzant? It's simple. My account had been deactivated from lack of use—I expected that. So I decided to make a new account. Somehow, i could no longer tutor because my profile wouldn't be approved. I tried asking why each time I changed it, and they said they couldn't tell me. I needed to highlight the irony here—people running a tutoring website with a basic profile example refusing to explain how to apply the basic profile so your profile could fit their unknown standard. Imagine tutoring and refusing to explain how the example can be applied to other areas/ more complicated problems.

They do not care about their tutors and will delete your profile whenever they see fit, without reason or cause. I had a 5 star rating that I acquired after 3 years of tutoring on their site- and one day they just decided to delete it. It is an unreliable source of income, and when you receive income- they take a huge percentage of it- more than any other tutoring site (heytutor, tutors.com). Their customer representatives, Nichole and Darrien, were useless and unhelpful. There are many other better tutoring sites that are more respectful for their tutors and way more reliable!

I received this message, as did many other tutors:

After reviewing your account, Wyzant is ending your access to its platform according to paragraphs 17 and 18(b) of the Independent Tutor Agreement. It has come to our attention that a student requested that you complete work on his or her behalf. According to our records, you agreed to complete this work and as such, we will deactivate your account effective immediately.

I helped a customer solve practice problems for an actuarial exam, not even a student. They refused to reactivate my account. I have been tutoring and teaching math for 15 years. They are the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with.
