“This is my fourth year with Norton protection”

Len R.
5/17/11

This is my fourth year with Norton protection. I cannot speak too highly of the unobtrusive protection provided by it. The program works in the background and shields the computer against all forms of unwanted and malicious incursions. You simply download the program, make the minimum of settings and it disappears to do its work only appearing when keeping you informed of what it has been done and requesting the occasion decision from you. So complete is the software that I have have never had to ask for support. Undoubtedly, it is the professional standard of computer protection available.

“Tune Up service waaay too complicated. I was left on hold for an hour before I hung up.”

1. I recently purchased and installed Norton Security. So far, I have no complaint with the program. However, I also purchased the $10 Computer Tune Up. I figured it was something I could download and run. It wasn't. I had to answer far too many questions before the service could be done - and leaving my computer open to strangers. The agent on the line, Bernard, was courteous. No problem with him. My case # 33278682 2. When I phoned *******854 to ask for a refund, I was left on the phone for a solid 1 hour (forced to listen to a terrible replaying over and over and over again) until I had to hang up. Not a friendly experience. I don't expect to get my $10 back, but I wanted to tell someone what I saw and heard. I may still find a site to share my experience. Will I recommend Symantec? I suppose it could be possible, but at the moment, not very likely.

I used Norton(who didnt, eh?) for some time, and I assume this is not the best option you can get for your pc. It constantly went for some errors and attempted to delete the files I prohibited him to delete multiple times... Controversial experience.

This is the OFFICIAL website for purchasing Norton software (it is made by Symantec). Any other site is a "reseller" and you never know what will happen. I have seen cases of pirated software, non-delivery and other problems with purported reseller sites. If you haven't been burned by one, you're lucky.

Until I switched to AVG I was a Symantec/Norton customer for years. The site is laid out nicely, the transactions go off without a hitch and they give very good customer service. I just found that AVG was actually a better product than Norton and actually costs about $10 LESS per year.

But if you want Norton Security products, I suggest you buy them here. That way you get direct factory support and no chance of getting burned.

At least I was notified that a recurring charge will be posted for a Norton product. I did not even know that I had signed up for the recurring charge. Then, navigating through the site to find how to stop the recurring charge was next to impossible. When I finally found out how to do it, I got an error message when trying to remove my credit card information that there was difficulty in accessing the server. I started a live chat, and the support person asked me to connect to my current computer to remote control it, which is not Norton supported. So then I asked what he was going to do, and he said he was going to try to connect with another internet browser. During the chat, I then tried that and it ALSO did not work. I told him that, and he still wanted to connect. I then said I found this very suspicious, and he then said that there was a problem connecting to the server (which I told him the error message had said). Then I said I did not trust him, and told him I would call the credit card company to alert them of the suspicious tactics, and he then emailed me an authorization number to allow him access to the account to remove the credit card for me. He did so (I checked), and then I proceeded to ask why he did not do that to begin with. He explained he did not have authorization to do it. But I explained... he just asked me for an authorization number sent to me by email allowing him to access the account and remove my credit card information - why not do that to begin with without taking control remotely of my current non-Norton supported device! (Very VERY suspicious!) He did not have a good answer.
It was not until I threatened to call AMEX to report the suspicious activity that he then did what I needed done! These underhanded tactics are planned, and used to rip off millions of dollars from people all over the world. The best way to get these guys to do the RIGHT thing for their consumers is to threaten them with reporting to the credit card companies! They do not want the credit card companies knowing about these underhanded tactics or they will not get authorization to use their credit cards! I will NEVER buy another Norton product!

I have used Norton security, and it seems to be working just fine. So far, I am happy with this company.

I have used Norton antivirus for some years now. In 2011, I switched from Norton Internet Security to Norton 360 5.0 to give that a go. I am a very dissatisfied customer because it completely slows down my computer and it is horrible protecting me from hackers and viruses. I spoke to a computer expert down at a store and he told me that he would never recommend Norton to his clients. He, in fact, said to buy Trend-Micro Titanium Maximum Security. He said that its cheaper, it doesn't slow down the computer performance like Norton and it has much better protection. I think I might have to give it a go!
