Having personally worked for skoreit at their corporate office, I can tell you first hand IT IS A SCAM! Run, and run away fast... the owners are unethical, and as of today have sold the company because of all the legal issues they have dealt with due to thier coverups and lies.
STAY AWAY FROM SKOREIT... The website just screams the word 'scam' at you. It is incredibly misleading and a waste of money. They definitely have their own people from skoreit bidding so that you WASTE more of your money. Also, I wouldnt be surprised if the people that are giving it 5 stars on here work for skoreit. Just look at their comments and it doesnt seem right, smells a lil fishy.
I had been saving and saving and saving all my my promo bids. They send out a code for three free bids about 2-3 times a week. I finally got up to 120 bids and won a $25 Shell gift card for $1.50 by using only 21 bids. It was definitely worth it! However, I would not and will not pay for bids. It's just outrageous. If you're strategic like me, you can hoard your free bids and win a nice prize for yourself. Just my 2 cents!
I signed up, used the promo code BIDNOW for 16 free bids, watched a gift card auction (and bid once just for the heck of it) and I totally get it. This site is NOT a scam, but it IS extremely based on strategy. Very cool—my first time with a penny auction. You pay $. 60 per bid (I guess), plus the final bid price, so really you want to bid as few times as possible.
Skoreit, on the other hand, can rake in the dough often (not all of YOUR dough, just the dough of everyone bidding).
For example: The gift card I watched was a $50 gift card, but it sold for $. 73, meaning only 73 bids. 73 x $. 60 is $43.80, so Skoreit actually took a loss. (Skoreit purchased the $50 gift card and sold it at a loss of $6.20.—Skoreit, btw, owns all the products, this isn't like eBay.)
Don't feel bad for Skoreit, though. I found an iPod Touch that sold for $37. Xx... that's over 3,000 bids! 3,000 x. 60 is $1800, minus the iPod Touch price, which was $300. KAPOW Skoreit just raked in the dough... but the winning bidder *could* have bid only once, meaning s/he would've paid the $. 60 bid price, $37. Xx for the winning total, plus shipping. Still a good bargain, unless they bid all their money away.
Why my 3 star rating? Because the selection ain't all that great, and one thing I *did* want (I saw it and decided I must have it lol), there wasn't even an auction for it. So enh. I closed my account and I'm wiser for it. But very fun to dip toes into these waters for half an hour.
Skore it is the best penny site out right now. If your smart with bids and watch auctions when you first start out and bid at the right times its not hard to win. Ive invested probally around 150 figuring high into the site and have won 400 or more worth of items. Its a great site and they ship fast! Hope this helps
Having participated in many penny auction websites, I can honestly say that I like Skoreit, the best!
Of course, just like anything else their is a learning curve to using penny auctions and no matter what websites you may participate in, you'll always have those who use it improperly.
I see less of that on Skoreit than on other penny auction websites.
The added bonus is there sports memoribilia stuff that is specific to skoreit!
The site is legit, because you people don't know what you are doing you knock it. Penny bidding is very strategic, you can't expect to just spend $100 single bid and win a $500 TV. However, if you spend time and money you can actually do very well. The reason people never post good things is the people who are successful at it don't want more competition so why would they say how great it is to drive more people to the site to bid against them? Also they offer OT on most their auctions so your rationale goes right out the window right away. If there is a $50 gift card and it was 300 bids it just means that 5 people paid the retail price and only lost $2 shipping and handling that was charged while someone did win the item below retail
This site is a total SCAM! I watched it for a day or two and decided to give it a try.My first day I spent almost $30 on bids and won nothing. I noticed all of the power bidders that just DON'T stop, So, the next day I tried again. I decided the only way to win was to buy a lot of bids, and I did. I spent almost $300 my second day and still won NOTHING! I'm a very experienced penny auction bidder too. It's obvious that they have fake bidders. On every auction, one power will bid hundreds of bids on something worth way less. Just when they finally stop and you think you have a chance cuz that person ran out of bids, all of a sudden, another power bidder jumps in and does the same thing. This happens several times throughout an auction. You have NO CHANCE of winning on this site! The auctions you see that sell for really low are the ones where real people that are buying bids don't bid on, therefore they don't need fake bidders to drive up the price. I will be writing them, in hopes to get my $300 back, I'm very tempted to dispute the charges. $300 worth of bids, and I couldn't even win a $50 gift card... Skoreit is TOTALLY BOGUS!
Rotaryguy used 1492 bids to win an apple ipad2 32 gb +no 3g +250 free bids. At the current price of $. 60 per bid, he spent $895.20 for this product, retail price of $599.00. Does this make sense to anyone who doesn't think this is a scam?
Another note, I contemplated using this website because they offer a deal where if you lose on an auction, you can buy the product for the retail price - value of bids used. Well they have giftcards so if you only spend $100 in bids for a $100 giftcard, you can't lose money, right? WRONG. They won't sell you just the gift card, they throw on extra bids to raise the retail price, making you pay more than just for the giftcard. Then when you go to try and do this again, those bids that you won, or paid for through the auction are not worth anything to try and buy a product out right after losing an auction.
I believe that big ticket items have "fake" bidders making it impossible to win, or randomly having one with out a "fake" bidder to try and prove authenticity of their site.
Sorry if that was hard to follow, but do research on your own. Go to the website and look at users who win and how much they spend on bids vs how much the product costs. SCAM. Should be a way to bring these A holes down.
Don't try this website! RIPOFF! Besides the 10 "free bids" they give you, I bought $39.00 worth of bids and used them up bidding on two items. I didn't understand up front that the increments are VERY small and you can use up your bids on pennies of increase. Also, in both cases I was consantly outbid by a bidder called "... wont give up..." that I suspect is an inside deal.
DON'T TOUCH IT!
I feel this site is legitimate, but bidder beware... nothing in life is free and there are power house bidders--to name a few ROSEMARE, SORRY BUT I'M NOT STOPPING, I'M NOT MIKE, KRAZYBIDDER, STOMPINGYOURBIDS and other usernames that are quite intimidating like WASTINGYOURBIDS, etc.
I signed up 10 months ago with MIKE & MIKE's promo with free bids. After only 4 bids I won a KINDLE for just under $5.00. Somehow blind luck, kept me winning. I discovered that only 3 wins in a 24 hour timeframe and only 12 wins in a month. And you wait exactly 28 days before you have accesss to bid. I Only bid on one BID PACK thinking it was a waste of time... why spend lots of bids to win bids, which counts as a "win". The first month I won a 10mega pixal digital camera, the KINDLE, the 480 bid pack and $100.00, $200.00 and $250.00 either VISA's or American Express gift cards. It seems no one was going after the American Express gift cards at that time. I discovered I couldn't even come close to a Wal-Mart card (any denomination) which seems to be a favorite.
After the 28 days, I was able to bid and win $500.00 and $1,000.00 gift cards either VISA, AMERICAN EXPRESS, and I even won a WAL-MART card or two--twelve in total. I did overpay on at least one maybe two. And if anyone accessed my account history that might have prompted them to not go up against me. After my third month (28 holding period) I was lucky to get a $100.00 card or even a $200.00 card. I think I won one $500.00 card and after 19 bids against a power bidder, I won a $1000. 00 gift card for $19.79. Thankfully, that I did as it paid my property taxes. I would imagine that I had beat that power bidder in earlier months when I was more successful.
Now, I rarely play or bid, because I seem to always loose or experience the same person (bid agent) placing bids back to back and as much as I have won, I have probably lost... So, I am lucky if I broke even. I realize now that I was fortunate enough to be bidding when the MAJOR power bidders were frozen out on their 28 days hold or my luck would have been bad luck.
And as a footnote, since SKOREIT has their own VISA Card imprinted with the winner's name, more people are going for the AMERICAN EXPRESS gift cards and the WAL-MART gift cards. ALSO, the newest strategy for the power bidders is to only bid on "BID PACK" either 480,240, or 120 and after outspending on a few of these pack, they can win the others for a few bids. With twelve 120 bid packs = 1440 bids, or twelve 240 bid packs = 2880 bids, or twelve 480 bid packs = 5760 bids; these power bidders are able to outbid anyone and get almost anything for very little cost.
So, to sum it up in a nutshell... if you don't have mega bids, are new to SKORE IT, don't know whom to go up against and whom to avoid (power bidders), don't have an endless supply of credit available, or don't have a workable system that gives you a chance to win... you would be better off flushing your money down the toilet.
So bidder beware, why would someone pay more than the retail value of the item? So, other bidder can see the amount of bids they will place to get the item--no holds barred--then they can get the same item, say a $500.00 gift card for. 34 cents or another $500.00 gift card for $1.74. Trust me, only the new comers would risk going up against a power bidder.
I think paid fake bidders drive up bids. Auto bids are set at the price that will win
I realized pretty quickly this is a ripoff. Not just this one but all of them. I went to the government website to report this fraud which everyone should do. I paid by credit card and actually got a refund for the$125 I spent. Took a few weeks but they refunded my money. I feel fortunate. What got me to try it was the consumer advocate for a tv station that said so an so penny auction is the best one. Turns out the so called reporter is just a picture as well as the tv station did not exist. Buyer beware!
These penny auctions are no better than gambling. Since you have no way of knowing when the auction will end or how often you will be outbid you can easily use all your pre-paid bids in vain. In my opinion these sites should be regulated just like casinos, or shut down altogether. Don't waste your time and money, if you are willing to bid in an auction go to e-bay where at least you know the price you are willing to pay and if someone outbids you its no loss.
Yeah once was enough for me. $9.90 and how quickly it goes on this site. Forget that. If it looks to good to be true it usually is. After reading the better BBB complaints and how many complaints there were for this site in a 45 day period. Account closed. Not ever would I do that site again..
They also lead you in with auctioning bid packs. They say that the bid pack has a. Retail value of $75.00, but if you spend 50 bids to win that 120 bids for $2.00, your bids are only given a value of $2.00/120 or $0.0163 per bid. So if you lose an auction and bid a120 bids there buy today option gives you a $2.00 credit. If they claim a retail value shouldn't all the bids have that value. I wrote them about this and of course they did nothing. When is a class action law suit starting against these underhanded gambling sites that are advertising themselves as fair and legit?
1) this site is accredited by the Better Business Bureau, so to everyone yelling "scam," they have some backing...
2) that said, AVOID THIS SITE LIKE THE PLAGUE IF YOU LIKE YOUR MONEY!
Its nearly impossible to win ANYTHING on this site unless you are a power bidder and are either reckless or careless with your money. I've seen people pay WELL over twice what an item is worth. The numbers are all very fuzzy and it equates to skoreit.com making a BOATLOAD of money. If you win something for $1.68, you did NOT pay $1.68, but possibly a LOT more, depending on your bids. I had some free bids that were done within seconds, then bought 30 bids that were gone just as fast. Unless you rack up hundreds of bids, you can expect to not win a single thing. Stay off of sites like these, especially skoreit, since its the most popular one. (i. E. most traffic/users/bidders)
I started off purchasing 10 bids. That cost $9.90 I used up the bids. I won a "bid Pack" of 15 bids. I used those, then purchased ANOTHER 10 bids for $9.90. All in all I have spent $45 on this site and was able to win $15 of bids. NOT WORTH IT.
Even when a bid is at point of "going once. Going twice", people are still bidding. Probably "Big Hitters" who can afford to buy bids in large bulks. Then set up an automatic "BidAgent" to place bids for them.
I lost $30 on this site. Never again.
In the past 5 months i have won over $10,000 in items and spent approx. $1500. I have been very lucky i would say. I also have studied the site and believe i know when to pull out of an auction and when to stay in and bid crazy. This site will make you mad at times and glorious at others.
Have to buy BIDS for various high prices then use them as fast as you can. They take your money as fast as you can hit the enter key. Where they really bend you over and give to you is at the final auction close. I watched a auction close for 30 minutes and whenever bidding stopped for a split second, it would say (closing once) or (closing twice) then the bidding would start again. This happened almost every minute for 30 minutes. These people need to be shot and burned.
Answer: Why do the same people criticize people for low grades are these employee's or paid people the site sounds like cow pies.
