“My Opinion on Listia is THUMBS UP It Doesn't Deserve the Bad Rap!”

cindy s.
2/3/23

Listia has lots of bad reviews out there because it says "get stuff free" but some sellers make the BUYER pay shipping (I never charge for shipping). That's not Listia's fault, and you can always use the search filter for "free shipping only". I've been using Listia for years-I joined in 2011 and I still use it constantly today! Listia is an auction site for new or used stuff. As far as "free" goes, people are complaining because ALL sellers don't offer free shipping. I would like to think people understand this, but many don't. Someone must pay, and I don't think Listia deserves a bad rap because of this. But if the seller offers "free shipping", you really do shop for free because you pay for your winnings with credits! If the seller asks you to pay for shipping (which CAN'T be paid for with credits) then you can decide if it's worth it to you or not. There is always the option, too, of using the "FREE SHIPPING" search modifier, which is what I use. I LOVE Listia! I list handmade jewelry, small household or toiletry items, cell phones and other small stuff. In turn, I use the credits I get to bid on old, silver coins, SS jewelry, or craft supplies for my beading. I am more than happy with my time on Listia. When you sell something, you earn CREDITS, then use those credits to bid on stuff you want. Their aim is to keep stuff out of landfills and offer shopping for little money. Also, some sellers can be rude, or untrustworthy, like on any other site. YOU must check their ratings, verification and feedback before you buy! Now, that said you never know what you'll find up for auction! Here's some pointers: 1) List items that are small, lightweight, and cheap to ship. Some of the things I've seen listed that are cheap to ship are silver coins, baseball cards, jewelry, collectibles, clothing, electronics, and more... 2) You need to 'sell' stuff to earn credits. I suggest listing items that don't cost a lot to ship, then offering Free Shipping. Some items that are in high demand and command a lot of credits for you are Postage Stamps SS or Gold jewelry Collectible Coins Baby Clothes Cell Phones or cases Books or DVDs (and you can ask for "media mail" at the PO for a discount!) Gift Cards And much more. 3) Always use tracking numbers when you mail something, by using padded envelopes, so buyers can't say they never received it. If the envelope is still thin, put a little piece of Styrofoam or the like in the envelope so it's thick enough to warrant free tracking. 4) BEFORE you bid on something, read the description thoroughly. If it doesn't say 'free shipping' then you will have to pay it, and there will always be someone trying to make an extra buck by overcharging for shipping (ALSO not Listia's fault!). If the item is broken, not what you thought, empty...Listia will only return your credits if the ad description didn't warn you ahead of time. 5) ALWAYS check a seller's profile before buying. Check to see if they have their verification badges-or at least their phone number badge and Facebook badge (you should check their FB profile, too), negative feedback from buyers...Use caution if someone 1-has no profile picture, 2-just joined and it's their first (or one of the first few) listing. Final Word All sites, especially shopping or auction sites are going to have some issues. They are going to have buyers and sellers who are unscrupulous. Ebay has all of these. So does Bonanza, Tophatter, and many others. But millions of people still use them and love the results. Don't bash it until you've bought and sold just ONE thing. Keep it cheap, see how the site works, THEN make up your mind!

“Listia does not follow their own rules. Counterfeit coin dumping ground!”

Mary H.
7/9/23

Listia used to be very good. Around 2014 they changed everything including points as a medium of trade. These points are very hard to translate to equivalent dollars. That's one problem. However, another problem slowly came to light—Listia has no means to seek review of problems that occur. They have customer service representatives that are either unable or unwilling to provide assistance in enforcing the rules that Listia themselves created. The biggest problem is with the offering of counterfeit coins. Listia allows known offenders to list these forgeries without repercussions. They don't help victims get their money back and only care about keeping the trading going. As a result, the good coin dealers won't do business there. This company should practice what it preaches and enforce their own rules. As of today, this site is known as a place to list forgeries and stolen property. Hopefully my complaint to the IC3 site will get the wheels of justice going. In the meantime don't buy Anything there unless you can afford to lose that money.

Tip for consumers:
This site is the wild, Wild West of auction sites! You are on your own there. Most of the supposed genuine high value coins are counterfeit and straight from Temu.com. Sellers are so emboldened that they sell and list the fakes with Temu’s packaging!

I have been a member of Listia for about 2 years. I have conducted several successful auctions and won quite a few as well. I have found Listia's support team to be both professional and fair. My only complaint in regard to Listia is the maddening rate of inflation regarding the Listia credits. I bought a laptop on listia for about 100k credits, where as now I don't even believe that could get me a book about laptops (being facetious here, but not by much). That is why I have not been active on the site in almost one year.

Tip for consumers:
Buyer beware. Thoroughly read the reviews of each Seller prior to purchase!

This app has gone completely downhill! They change currencies what seems like every six months and make your current currency worth nothing when they do so. Sellers mostly never send out what you buy and when you try and get your credits back they don't do anything about it... waste of money and time! Don't use this scam app! You are warned!

Been active on Listia for about 2 months. Already have well over 100 positive reviews - mostly selling but some buying. Haven't had a problem so far *knocks on wood."
Couple of times I had a question for support and within a couple hours, I had well thought out, informative and helpful responses.
Only issue is that I have one buyer that doesn't confirm delivery within a day or two like everyone else. Not that they open disputes or anything, it just locks up your funds until 20 days after payment way made. That's only 1 buyer out of dozens. Seems like they have really tightened things up in a good way since switching back to Points from Ink. Fill out some surveys and it's like free money. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

It was a long boring day and I didn't know what to do in order to shorten that day. I believed that it would be cool to search in the internet for some cool shopping centers. Finally, I found listia which seemed to me pretty interesting, because it offers things for exchange for free. So you cna just give them things which you don't need anymore and then they send you some things which you need. It's okay for those people who always buy something but don't use it. I guess that this service should be paid with attention from people, because it really deserves it.

When I joined they said you could redeem 25,000 point for a $50 gift card. Now a couple months later they're saying 30,000 will get you the same thing. I have no doubt that the longer I spend on the site the more points it will take to cash out. SCAM.

First it was a great site to sell as other reviewers mention. But the credits devalue very quickly so I highly recommend you buy something as soon as you sell. Also, there are a lot of foreign sellers now selling cheap foreign made items. This site use to have a big garage sale or flea market feel, now it has a "Big-Lots" feel to it.

I bought and sold on Listia for a couple of years There is more and more drop ship stuff from Hong Kong and China than anything else. It's basically the same stuff as Wish sells. After making 2 fairly large purchases and never receiving my merchandise and being told by Listia that I was not getting my credits back, I'm done. Basically they are thieves.

A lot of you people here leaving whiny reviews are just either lazy, boring or greedy. Listia has some of the most unique items, down to Earth people. I have ever bet! With most things in life you get back what you put into it. Some of you I can tell didn't and you don't know how to be successful and then you cry that it stinks. Listia ROCKS!

I was a member for a few years, and received quite a lot of cool stuff. Also contributed numerous items.
I became fed-up with Listia after too many sellers kept the postage fees I sent and failed to send me the items.
I stopped dealing with them altogether when they started the 'ink' system- was unable to figure it out.

I believe the site would be good if a) Listia reimbursed us for postage ripoffs, and b) went back to the former credits system.

So you use credits instead of money and it's an auction site. To make sure you don't get scammed, only bid on auction with 100% next to their name. That means they have no negative feedback. Either way you can read their sellers feedback. And if you read everything, it tells you if that auction has free shipping or not. And you can always apply the filter to show auctions only with free shipping. This site is amazing. As long as you pay attention to what you're doing. I've been with them for about 9 years

I bought this laptop and found an app on the laptop. It looked cool so i downloaded it and thought i would try it. After about 2 months when I had eached around ******* points and sold a few items and shipped them but not bought anything with my points listia banned my account saying I HAD ANOTHER ACCOUNT. Before the two months I had never even heard of the website and when I asked them to SHOW me my supposed other profile they could not do it but refused to give me back my accounr

I have been a Member since Apr 16,2011. When I first joined the site it was awesome. I loved "buying" and "selling" things I was interested in, however they messed up with the "buy it now" option. Prices inflated and good items were harder to come by. Yet I stuck by their side. Now with this new crypto-currency taking hold on Listia it's a sinking ship. They're going down a very terrible path.

It has some good and bad things. First the good is I like you can ear points. Bad though is there is really not a lot of nice things you can earn with the points, people list their stuff way way way to high. Also I don't like that you have to verify your address it is very annoying. Plus I got yelled at on Listia by a seller that listed an item that I had at home. They said that it was this really fine piece of jewelry but I know I bought the same exact piece at Walmart for 5 dollars. Also bidding is way to competitive. I feel like you never win anything.

Thumbnail of user rayelleb
Tom F. – Listia Rep

Hi Leah. Thanks for your review. We require an address verification to make sure the address is valid so that the Seller is not at a loss when the item is shipped and the item actually reaches it's destination. As for the listings, since they are members' items, the type and value (to the user) will vary. We hope you can continue to use and enjoy Listia.

I have been with Listia since February 2010 so a long time! When I first learned about the site I thought the idea was genius. I still think it is. You offer your stuff up (used or new etc) to gain their "points" and when you have accumulated enough points you can use them to bid on things you want. It appears that they keep things afloat with ad revenue I presume and the team seems to work hard at trying to improve the site. There are always going to be people in this world that will try to scam others so remember the old adage. If it looks too good to be true it probably is. Check people's feedback and reliability before bidding. Are they listing a brand new iPhone with no feedback? Yeah maybe don't bid on that unless you like headaches. xD I believe I use the site for what it is meant to be used for. Listing used things and trading them in for small possibly used things in return. If you want some premium item like a brand new gadget, or ebay gift card or very useful items clearly being dropshipped from Amazon you're going to end up paying more than they are worth because people are trying to profit. Also if you are wondering why people list a good bit of useless or overpriced items it's because the site encourages creating 5 listings a day for 25 free points. 5 points is 1 cent so it's only 5 cents a day but hey some people list things like vinyl stickers for 99 points so I suppose in 4 days you could get a completely free item from creating listings that end and never sell. This brings me to the issue of inflation. All those free points being given out daily can cause some inflation. However it does seem like inflation has finally stabilized on the site and the people managing the site claim they combat inflation by using some of their revenue from ads to pay for the auctions they host like more Amazon gift cards. Also the points Listia gets from their auctions plus all their final value fees are used to payout all those free point incentives they give away for listing items and referring others. You can list items completely free without paying any final value fees if you start the auction at 99 points and offer free shipping. Most of the complaints I've seen about Listia seem to stem from deals gone wrong or people that don't understand that you can't shove lumpy stuff (bracelets, belly rings, fat seeds, a clump of fat paper punches all in one spot) in an envelope and expect normal first class letter service (sometimes it makes it through but many times it does not or gets badly mangled). This site is basically a big garage sale and you will see people listing both trash and treasure. I personally use it for small flat items like stickers, used postage stamps, craft supplies/scrapbooking paper and the handmade stuff is fun to look at. There really is so much stuff to bid on honestly if you know where to look. It's a fun way to pass the time. No cash is involved either so no taxes which is a nice headache free way to declutter. :D

Live with a grateful heart and you'll find joy everywhere.

Listia used to be good. You could actually get some things for a reasonable amount of credits. Now, it's nearly impossible with the crazy amount of inflation and it's ridiculous the amount of credits that people want for some things when it's obvious they are nowhere near the amount these people think they are worth. It comes across as greedy which is unfortunate for the people who are actually honest and fair on there.

I only deal with the gardening part so cant say anything about the other auctions. I do charge shipping but give extra seeds of other varieties and. The only thing i would love to see change is when people dont pay shipping there is some reprecussions. I also dont understand why listia is now taking part of your credits. Ive noticed that people are now charging more points for items. I buy alot of the seeds i sell so anything i get in shipping goes back to listia. I; m never going to get rich from what i charge for shipping but it makes it fun to be able to offer many varietys of seeds. I have only had to file a few disputes and the staff usually finds in my favor. I have gotten seeds that dont grow but that happens on ebay also. It could be my error or old seeds. I have 100 percent feedback and if someone says they didnt get it i do resend at my cost. I did get A NASTYGRAM FROM ONE MODERATOR about a item i posted it was removed but later someone else posted and sold same item. There should be rules that everyone should abide and before a someone gets banned they should get a warning and if they continue to violate then a email should be sent stating why and a way to dispute it. Moderators also should respond faster but all in all i will continue to use listia. Ive had the same experience with ebay except the nastygrams. I thought it was totally un called for since ive always had great reviews on listia. Thanks listia for a great experience and i get a chance to win seeds and have a beautiful flowerbed every year since 2010 when i joined
