“Paul Kumar - FIRE HIM”

Michelle B.
6/17/23

Paul Kumar, Life Alert salesperson from the New Jersey office was extremely aggressive, angry, mean, rude and disrespectful to me on the phone. I was interested in purchasing a Life Alert for my loved one. Paul Kumar started speaking over me in an aggressive, pushy salesman tone of voice. And then when I told him that was inappropriate, he began to yell and berate me at the top of his lungs. Please listen to Paul Kumar's recorded Life Line phone calls. He lacks interpersonal skills, compassion, kindness and ethics. Paul Kumar is unethical and fraudulently charged my credit card without me confirming the second call. He should be fired for screaming at clients, speaking to them in an aggressive tone of voice, talking over them and telling clients that "no one put a gun to their head." Thanks to Paul Kumar, we decided to go with another company. Paul Kumar is costing life alert customers - fire him!

I called Medicare and they said I was chosen to receive a free Life Alert. I asked them if I could cancel at anytime because the monthly fee was $49. They informed me I could. As soon as I cancel the informed me I had to send back the equipment. So if you give me something for free, if I don't use it I have to give it back? Misleading promotions and unprofessional representatives. I wanted to rate them a zero but this system wouldn't let me.

My mother has been paying a lot of money each month for something she has never used. Well she can no longer afford to keep the device. I called and tried to cancel. They said we're under a 3 year contract. This was never even explained to her at the time of purchase. I was with her when she was talking to the sales department. This was never mentioned in the hour long conversation. Things need to be explained thoroughly to elderly people. They will try to just rob your loved ones. Please be very careful before you decide to make this purchase. They do the same thing as a cell phone but a cell phone is so much cheaper. Wish I had read the reviews before I let my mother waste her money

When trying to stop service and return the equipment I was treated vey rudely and all kinds of barriers were put in place where they tried to make it impossible to achieve cancellation. They are not upfront about this and I lost $3000 due to them. Stay away!

Received a lot of misinformation from Life Alert to cancel my service. Was told to call back on the last day. Spent most of it on hold only to be told that we "missed" the return window. Be aware that the time they spent on the phone with my mother was to Upsell her and extend her contract. Clearly cancel only means 'sales opportunity' for them. All of the customer service representatives were more concerned about extending my mother's contract rather than providing her information to return her equipment. Oh by the way, they state that she will be charged every day until they receive her equipement. They contract with UPS for this service and blame delays in transit on them. For a company that proclaims they are here to protect my mother, I do believe they are no better than a bad used cars salesman. Too many other classy organizations to choose from. We switched because we found a better, more modern company at half the cost. Better technology, better options. I have never felt comfortable with Life Alert from the beginning because you must sign up for a three year commitment or you cannot get the service you need at the time. Hard choice to make when you care about the welfare of a loved one. Guess that was the first red flag. Stay away from Life Alert.

Tip for consumers:
Customer Service was not helpful. Still waiting from a call from the supervisor - who was on lunch at 3:00 in the afternoon. Rep shared that the supervisor would only repeat the information she shared. That's not a lot of faith that the supervisor is there to support me the paying customer.

This is the worst thing I ever signed my mom for. First you cannot cancel it because you singed up for three years. You HAVE to pay for three years even though you do not use it. Canceling it is even worth. I called them to verify that they receive my email about canceling. They said yes we received it and told me we will call back in two days. Never got a call back until I called myself. Then they said UPS will come and pick up the package because it is more reliable way. Hell no, no way it is reliable. Nobody showed up at the door to pick up. And they will not send you label until that mysterious pick up driver show up at your door three times. But the best point they charge you until you have that equipment. The MOST RIDICULOUS thing I have ever seen in my life.

Life Alert ads are all over the place, but I don't think they offer the best medical alert system anymore (if they ever did). Don't get me wrong, Life Alert isn't bad but when I was doing research on medical alert systems for an elderly uncle, I found that there are a bunch of new technologies that are probably a lot better. Everything from cell phones with emergency alerts (cell phones can be better than these pendants because they work outside of the home) to medical alert pendants with fall detection. I'd look for more options before buying Life Alert.

This service is over priced and you have to sign up for three years and can not cancel. The only way out is to die or pay for three years.
There are other services with no extended contracts. Shop around to save money.

My Father in Law is 96, a WWII prisoner of war, and former engineer with AT&T. He was living with my mother in law age 91 in an independent living facility for the last year. Mom broke her hip and while in the hospital and rehab facility, he felt insecure living alone and wanted an alert system in case of falling. He was told by the sales rep before he signed the contract he could cancel the contract if he moved to assisted living. We moved him and my mother in law into assisted living two weeks ago with 24 hour care. The company will not return our phone calls or e-mails to cancel and return the alarm unit. We will never refer anyone to do business with this company! They are vile predators on the old!
