“Excellent Support for an Excellent Product”

Richard S.
8/23/21

After three and a half years of flawless performance, my high-end Falcon-NW computer started taking six minutes to boot up. Unable to find the problem, I called Falcon-NW support, and Rob Guaderrama very patiently helped me resolve the issue, which turned out to be entirely my fault. My wife and I are avid bird photographers; we set our photos and videos to music and bird song to create 1-hour shows that we present to camera and nature clubs. Over the years we have purchased or helped family purchase over a dozen Falcon-NW computers, all of which have demonstrated excellent performance, and only occasionally required Falcon-NW's excellent support.

Top Critical Review

“Horrible Service”

Jonathan C.
10/10/20

1. Ordered computer: stated 17 days to build. 2. While I was waiting on the build I had questions about the components used in the build. 3. Customer service became defensive and combative and never really answered my questions. 4. Its been 21 days and they still have yet to complete the build. 5. It seems a lot like retaliation for questioning build components. 6. Horrible customer service. While can certainly appreciate being swamped, workload was not communicated to me anytime during the wait period. In fact, the ship date was stated twice in the email communication. Furthermore, I clearly communicated a business was reliant on the build and could not afford delays. Again, there was no communication from Falcon NW regarding a delay at any point of the dialog or on the status of the build. Help me understand how this is customer centered service and not to be construed as retaliatory? In the end, I will be losing money and do not have the option to wait for another company to build a computer. Glossy sock puppet reviews from so-called expert sites speak to the effort made to produce a perfect product – for the review, but do not speak to the actual experience. The seasoned company has lost its way and only seems to cater to critics – not the average customer. Will I receive this same dismal service and support if there's a problem? It certainly seems likely.

The support staff is professional, patient, and top-tier. Whenever I have any question or problem, they provide excellent answers. For action issues, such as a hardware issue requiring a part replacement, they are quick to respond and provide guidance and tests, setup shipping for a replacement part, and schedule an over-the-phone walkthrough. During the replacement process, their guidance over the phone is incredibly patient and in-depth, making it super easy to replace a part that may seem complicated or daunting to perform at home. Their support is one of the reasons I keep coming back for my computer builds. I feel respected, valued, and taken care of so I can rest easy that I'll be taken care of if I ever have a problem.

I have had a Falcon NW Fragbox for about 5 years now and I have found it to be very reliable. I superb blend of power and portability. I decided this year to acquire a laptop for back-up gaming and video streaming purposes. Fortunately I can afford the lofty price of a loaded-up DRX Fragbook. It's a bit heavy, but if you can't carry 11 lbs. of weight around from time to time, you really need to hit the gym. I have no problem with the added mass, as long as it packs all features I need in a PC. I can haul the Fragbox around also but I need a display unit and other peripherals that would be too fragile for constant transport. These folks have been around for a long time, and at the prices they charge, there is a good reason for that. Now that crummy old Dell got their dirty paws all over alienware I will not do business with them anymore (Origin PC might be worth a look later).

I would like to bring to your attention the excellent support I've received from the technical team members of Falcon Northwest.
Recently, I have had issues with my Talon. All of my emails are answered within a day and are very detailed, some with photos to further help me understand what actions I have to take. When a telephone conversation is necessary, I have never been rushed nor has there been any indication of too much time being spent by the support staff regarding explanations or instructions. This holds true for all past tech support contacts as this is my second Talon with the first still operating after 14 years.
Ever since purchasing my first Talon, I can't count the times I've told people about the extreme high quality of Falcon Northwest computers and the excellent, above and beyond efforts of the support staff! This also holds true for the sales personnel. When ordering a new computer, they first ask what it will mainly be used for and then suggest which components should be considered. In my experience, when I mentioned I was considering more costly options, they kindly mentioned it really wasn't needed and I wouldn't benefit in performance for my needs.
In closing, for all the topics mentioned above, I will continue to recommend Falcon Northwest to anyone who is considering purchasing a new computer!

Falcon NW creates an amazing product and customer services was great.

The PC they put together was immaculate. This includes the build quality of the case to the selection of parts, to the cable management. The RBG is tasteful, not over done - which is really ideal for me. They overclocked it, but in a way that is very stable, and with excellent temperatures under any load.

Customer service was very responsive and friendly. The PC was a bit delayed from their original estimate, by about 6 days but not a major pain point for me. I fully understand the times we live in, in regards to component shortages - so this was not a surprise. They would email me back within a day of reaching out and thoughtfully answered my questions.

I would recommend Falcon NW to anyone looking for a custom built PC with no compromises, excellent build, and friendly/fast customer service.

Tip for consumers:
Just enjoy!

A friend & I purchased 2 identical high-end Talon computers from Falcon Northwest and we could not be happier. (BTW, I waited until we'd used our systems for several weeks before writing this review. Our systems have continued to work flawlessly during that time.)

Both systems are beautifully constructed & cable-routed, and the standard tinted glass side panels display the significant but not overdone internal RGB nicely. The exclusive custom-designed Talon case, which also includes an RGB-illuminated falcon logo on the front - and which they only sell as part of a complete computer, no matter how much DIYers may ask them to make the case available separately - is virtually all metal, and designed to provide good airflow for cooling of everything but the CPU. (The CPU is handled by a Falcon Northwest--branded Asetek AIO cooler that's included standard.) In keeping with the elegant ruggedness of the overall design, the GPU is supported by a sturdy end bracket which holds it in place so securely that there's no need for those ubiquitous expandable foam bags to be used internally during shipment. (Though I imagine the well-executed double-boxed shipment packaging gets a bit of the credit there, too.)

F-NW's online configurator is the cleanest, most informative, and most convenient one I've used. (And I checked out a LOT of places online while I was spec'ing out our systems.) It doesn't offer low-end "cheapo" component options but it does offer a good range of selections in most categories. (A few items are "locked into" the design once certain other choices are made. For example, when I decided we'd go with Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero was the only motherboard offered. Fortunately, it was so well-reviewed by the online tech experts -- "texperts?" (hmm, maybe not) - that I wouldn't have wanted another one, anyway.)

The way I came to think of it is that F-NW offers a "curated" set of selections for your components, so you don't have to worry that you're going to make any serious blunders in your choices. And I guess this lets THEM not have to worry about putting together a system that's not going to work together well enough to pass the multiple days of testing they put it through after assembly. (I should mention that you get the filled-out-by-hand testing checklists as part of the paperwork included with your system.)

I'm basically a "show me the choices I have then let me go off & research them on my own" kind of shopper, so I didn't need to consult with their sales department during the configuration phase. So I can't speak to how helpful they are in that regard. But I CAN say that when I emailed a question about my order that I had after placing it, they got back to me with the information I requested within a day. So my guess is that they'd be helpful with any pre-order configuration-related questions, as well.

Our systems shipped 6 days earlier than the estimated 28-day build time, and of course I received a notification/confirmation email on that day. So they do a good job of keeping in touch.

If you've read this far, you've probably gotten the impression that Falcon Northwest systems are not cheap in any sense of the word. And you'd be right. But they don't feel overpriced for what you get. (And yes, I fully acknowledge that I'm fortunate enough to be able to pay more for a system than many folks are. AND that I've become a bit of a Falcon Northwest fanboy by this point. But I think it's not without good reason.)

View it this way: There's a considerable baseline cost you're going to pay for even the most budget-conscious system you'll get from these guys. Think of that as including the cost associated with stuff like the beautiful case and the really wonderful, high-quality workmanship. But as you compare the additional cost when you select higher-tier components over lower-tier, you'll see that the cost increase is very much in line with the increase in MSRP for the components. So the costs do make sense, IF you can manage the baseline cost. I hope you can.

Take care. :)

James (and friend!),
Great system photos! And thank you so much for the wonderfully written review! I love the "curated" term to describe how we limit some PC component choices on our configurer and not others. The ASUS "Dark Hero" motherboard we use in our Ryzen systems is the only one on the market that does not need a chipset cooling fan (so it's quieter). And we have years of bug-free experience with it's predecessor, and ASUS motherboards in general. Standardizing on that Ryzen motherboard for the Talon model allows us to always route those pretty cables the same, and lets our tech support learn it thoroughly as opposed to having to try to support every brand under the sun. Now when it comes to GPUs, storage, and of course aesthetics - yep we've got tons of choices! So glad you & your friend are happy with your Talons. Thank you so much for your business, and the kind words!

Compared to HP and Dell both of who make you jump through hoops if you get any service at all, The service at Falcon Northwest is amazing. When I had questions, whether, both software and hardware. They quickly responded in detail, usually within a couple to a few hours.
I have owned my computer for 2 years and 6 months when twice my computer shut down and wouldn't come back on for one or more hours. After some tests they had me run, they identified the problem as the power supply and offered to send me a replacement power supply with detailed instruction, or I could return the computer. That was my choice, They will pay return shipping and sent me a UPS label at a discount.

The computers are somewhat more expensive but you get what you pay for. I will buy from Falcon NW again.

I remember ordering my first falcon NW back in 97. This was long before alienware and many of the newer gaming rigs were even developed. These guys know how to build a fast PC and have been around for years. I like how they have not sold out to the big box retailers too.

A friend recommended a falcon for me to get into VR. I am not aware of any other company that will provide the level of customer service that falcon NW gives to their customers. I can see why they have been in business for 25 years.

I used to buy alienware pcs especially before Dell bought alienware. Not many laptops are actual desktop replacements for gaming. The falcon NW laptops with their 17 inch screens are simply amazing and you can even RAID 0,1 them which is rare on laptops.

Falcon northwest has the reputation for being overpriced, but I specced out the costs of their higher quality components and it is not nearly as overpriced as people think it is. It does cost more but you are getting the more costly ram/HD/video cards. Good quality like corsair doesn't come cheap... it doesn't also fail either.

I have heard about Falcon computer from my gaming magazines for years now I just never had a job that paid me enough to be able to afford one. I finally saved up enough money for a Falcon and I must say these blow away the HP computers I have been forced to use in the past. I can easily overclock and get my resolution up to even 4K if I had a 4K monitor.

After years of drooling over a Mach V I finally got my wife to agree to let me have one and she even ordered it for me. It is so quiet for the speed it delivers and the build quality is nothing short of spectacular. It is easy to access all of the cables too for future expansion.

What can be said is this I call on Sat. Got a call back 20 min later. My M.2 was glitching out and in the BIOS. We diagnosed the issue. No hassle warranty to replace the M.2. Also I got a great education from very knowable support personal. Best experience. I should know since I manage a help desk! Keep it up!
