“Scammed out of Deposit”

vivian m.

On May 11,2016, I went into Dixie Trailer to look at 3 of their travel trailers that I had viewed online. After looking at them, I asked Jake the salesman for a price on two of them so I could discuss with my husband and have him come back on Jakes next day at work to look at them. Jake said he could not give me a price until I put down a $1,000.00 deposit. THIS IS THE beginning of the scam. Whoever, heard of such a thing and I know I was stupid for not walking away now. I asked Jake, if I could get the deposit back as I had not had time to ask any questions about the travel trailer nor had my husband looked at it or asked questions Jake clearly told me YES you can get it back (evidently 2nd lie here). Then Jake said he could only give me the price on one trailer and I had to pick one (Another part of the scam whoever heard of refusing to give a price on merchandise). Stupidity again, I randomly picked one so I would have an idea of what the price would be to let my husband know. Jake then gave me a price, had me sign some papers and I advised him I would be back on his next work day to let my husband take a look at the trailers and to ask Jake a list of questions I had prepared with me but did not have time to go through them that day. Again I asked Jake if I could get the deposit back if my husband and I did not like the trailer and he said YES. I returned to my home late afternoon and did not look at the papers until the next morning before 9 am. Once I reviewed the papers, it indicated that I had purchased a travel trailer which I NEVER agreed to do and I called Dixie Trailer immediately and advised them of their underhanded business practices and requested my deposit back as there was no way I would purchase a travel trailer from them. Dixie refused to give me back my $1,000. Dixie refused to give other customers their deposits back also.

Tip for consumers:
Do not leave a deposit with this company and walk away if they ask you for a deposit in order to give you a price on any of their merchandise.
