“Site is made for reading and writing”

I love Writing.Com. There are so many ways to express my love of writing. And every day there are new activities to inspire me. I am so grateful to have found a site like this. With that said, the site is a bit daunting for newcomers. However, the tools and features are well worth learning. Customer service is great and there are resources such as articles and forums for developing one's own writing style.

I would not suggest this. You see, this site is, basically, a pay to use site. Most of the admins aren't particularly nice. It's quite restrictive and one is isn't allowed to post more than ten things unless you pay. I didn't stay there long. In short, there are other writing websites, worth your time.

I love to write, but my crochet business has kept me pretty busy. I hope to get back to my writing soon. WDC has been great and the members are so encouraging and helpful. I never thought I could write anything, but entering contests and receiving honest reviews from fellow authors was just what I needed. I hope to be back soon.

I appreciate your feedback. We've taken a different approach than the "free" sites that aren't really "free". By now, everyone knows there is a COST to everything. Everyone knows that "free" means they sell your information to pay for the service! Nothing is "free". Look at all the scandals at Facebook, Google and on and on. Read the business plans of the larger "free" sites. They are NOT charities. Some smaller sites may be NOT selling your information in which case: The site is just a hobby for the admin(s). Hobbies don't last forever and don't be surprised when you log in one day to find the site owner has moved on to something more worth their own time.

To each their own.:-) We've been online providing our services since 2000 -- celebrating our 19th year online serving writers coming up in September! There are few (if any) truly "free" sites that can make sure statements! For less than a cup of coffee per month, we offer a remarkably stable environment for folks serious about their writing.

Where ever you may end up, we sincerely wish you the best with your writing endeavors.

I've been homeless many times, and had to throw away my writing because I only had physical copies of it. Now that I have a membership at Writing.com, I can store my writing as I work on it, and if I move, I don't have to worry about carrying physical copies of my work with me.

The staff are helpful, I've been a member off and on since 2000. It's a real community, with people who are creating stories and sharing their work and their positivity.

The site itself is all right, but the official contests are judged by moderators and are very biased. They just give them to their friends.

Writing.com, or WDC, offers many many ways to write, from novels, to poetry, to essays and countless more options., but also to do nothing but read.
There are also many ways to interact with other members, readers, writers. Get reviews and ratings for your work or rate and review others, take part in competitions or forums or review clubs and so much more.
Membership can be free or there are several, affordable paid memberships which offer a lot.
I can't imagine my life without WDC. It's home for me.

The writing.com site is a place where all manner of aspiring and published authors can practice the craft of writing. There are contests, newsfeed, blogs, prompts, forums where like-minded people come together to learn about writing, and to socialize. Indeed, if you are just wanting to read some great material, writing.com is the site for you! Reviews and encouraged. The site is extremely member-driven and not micro-managed. The best user experience can be found with an Upgraded membership level, which is very affordable, but you can join for free and see if you like it. Many people will help, you have only to ask. Many of us have been there for years, and one thing WdC definitely ISN'T is boring--you will always have an almost overwhelming amount of things to write about, join, read, and enjoy. Creativity at its best, and I consider it my online home. Enjoy!

I have wanted to improve my writing skills. I checked out some online classes, etc. I came across Writing.com by chance while searching for online resources. It is a very helpful site. You can get good quality, constructive reviews of your work. There are many helpful resources. Many are free. The members made me feel like a part of the community from the start. I would recommend Writing.com for anyone who wants to write, and also for people who just want to read some very good work.

A popular, diverse, well run site to consider if you are up for trying your hand at authoring as a new hobby. It's been going successfully for twenty years, and appeals to many people.
It has a friendly set of contributors, many of whom appear to want to help others, if they can. But, and it's a big but. Many who have been on the site over one or two decades appear not to have learnt the skills to help novice authors. The standard of grammar, punctuation and awareness of pacing is lacking in a lot of the contributors and reviewers. Sad to say, most works offered for reviews seem amateurish. You would expect this from the first efforts of new writers, but it also seems a common fault among the many established members.
The weekly/monthly competitions are fair and well conducted. The organizers run them voluntarily and seem to have other members' best interests at heart.
People who have been on the site many years judge the official contests. I have read accusations of judges fixing the competitions and giving the prizes to their friends. Of what I discovered in my time there, it couldn't be further from the truth. I think it more accurate to say, not all, but many of these adjudicators have written little of any note in a long time, which can lead to some strange results. They seem to have more of an interest in socializing than penning.
The standard of fellow authors' reviewing is often poor in its context. Most reviews are for short stories/poems of somewhere between 50 and 700 words. Larger pieces of work get little attention.
A great number of reviewers write short meaningless critiques as they hoover up gift points towards free membership. None of the staff seem to notice, or show an interest in stopping it.
During the time I surveyed the site, I saw people arrive, and throw themselves into what I presume was the original spirit of writing.com. Some must have spent a long time working on comprehensive reviews of others' works. But after seeing what others call a review, they eventually lose heart and decamp for fresh fields to pursue their aspirations.
In conclusion, I would say. If you are feeling your way into writing, or if you are interested in hobby writing within a sheltered environment, you couldn't find a more diverse and welcoming place from which to start.

As a member since 2000, I can tell you that not only has this site helped me grow as a writer; it has also become a second home. First, I want to clear up a misconception. I've seen other reviews bashing the membership aspect, but I don't think those users understood the concept. Membership is free. Yes, you can purchase different levels for extra features. But at $10 for 3 months (or 1 year for $20), a basic membership is pretty darn affordable. We also have a couple of angel groups that can help out with the cost for those that need a little help. Not to mention the contests with memberships as prizes. I personally won a 1-year Premium membership. Twice.
Whether you enjoy writing for the fun of it, are looking to polish your skills before publishing, or just looking for something to read, I encourage you to give it a chance. In my 20 years, I've come across one unfriendly user. That's it. Our members and staff are always welcoming. There is literally something for everyone.

If you're looking to improve your writing skills, network with fellow authors, read new & interesting stories & poetry, or just share your work with your peers, this is the place for you.

Getting started takes minutes, and is incredibly easy.

On my first night, I'd uploaded three stories and received six incredibly helpful reviews.

A wonderfully supportive community, an easily navigated site containing a plethora of useful tools; the most constructive environment online for aspiring writers

I can't recommend this site enough!

The admins are lying about the server load. They are forcing users to pay for the one service (interactive stories) that is actually popular. They censor criticism of it and act very passive aggressive. Do not use this website for interactive stories.

Ever think you're in a rut? Don't think your writing is any good? Want to try a new genre? Check out Writing.com's contest section. It's a great way to test your writing chops, flex those unused writing muscles, and get helpful criticism. Submissions can be anywhere from poems to novellas, though most fall into the 1000 - 2000 word short story category. Check them out, I think you'll like being part of the community.

Writin.com is one of the best site I've ever come across and undoubtedly one on the best sites writing sites out there. Really friendly community, fair critiques, and so many aspiring stories make it an awesome place! You might think it's boring, because its just a writing site, but there are so many things to do: writing and non-writing tasks- that it's really addicting. You MUST check it out, even if you ain't an aspiring writer. It's the closest thing to an ideal world in my view.

In the eleven years I've been a paying member of Writing.com, I have progressed from a novice just figuring out how to write stories and poems to a traditionally published author. The site encourages support, critiques, and contests, and manages to be a safe place for self expression without allowing the kinds of a abusive behaviors that plague many social networks and communities.

Whether you simply read, or write for the site, there are plenty of hidden gems and activities to make a paid membership worth it. Not ALL stories are great... or even good, readers have to admit that, and it does take a while to find them, but it is very interesting to see some of these authors grow. Unfortunately, there is little external incentive for the authors to take the criticism and actually change their story. The connections and networking are a bonus- as it is quite difficult to find people who enjoy talking about writing outside in the real world.

I have been a member of Writing.com for many years now and I love it. There is a choice of membership options and even the free membership allows more than other websites. Originally I came in just to read other people's writings, but now I write as well, along with reviewing and participating in a number of groups, activities and forums. There's always something to do and there is a real sense of community here. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone.

All writing sites have good and not-so-good points. Any level of writer can benefit from the site by just using those things that are helpful like getting others to read and offer comments as you polish your work. There's places for all genres and collaboration, and you can have a blog (at a Upgraded membership level). For those not interested in a social scene, you can skip that part of it and still progress your writing. It may not be perfect for everyone, but any writer can find it useful.
