WEEBLY WEBSITE BUILDER OWNED BY SQUARE
Weebly is an average website builder. However, it lacks in features. You can signup at Weebly and use the builder on their hosting servers or you can signup with BlueHost and use theirs.
If you signup to use the Weebly website builder with BlueHost, you will be using an outdated Weebly version since the updated Weebly builder won't be pushed out to them for some time. So that means new features that are live on weebly.com won't be available on third-party platforms. The only pro to using Weebly on BlueHost is that you will have more control of the back-end server configuration.
Creating a website through weebly.com would be a better choice if you're looking for the new live features and don't want to mess with anything on the back-end. Weebly takes care of everything on the back-end (e.g. Server issues). All you have to worry about is the front-end, building your website and publishing it. It's simple. Weebly is for average people who have no coding experience and just want to build a quick website.
Weebly in general lacks major features and they also prevent basic visual features from displaying on your website. For example, if you have a video background, the video only plays on the desktop version of your site. The mobile version, the video background is static [it does not play]. Weebly prevents video backgrounds from playing audio as well. Another disadvantage with Weebly is parallax images, they only work on the desktop version, the mobile version they are static.
Using Weebly for eCommerce is not great. Trying to run an online store via Weebly with lacking eCommerce features would not be beneficial for your business. There is no flexibility with customizations using Weebly for eCommerce.
Weebly support is lacking. The support is through their forum community and there is only 2-3 Weebly staff that ever answer or reply to your questions. Some community members will also help you out.
Weebly's pricing plans are expensive for their lack in features both on the front-end website builder and at server level. Basic HTTP security headers are missing at server level, they don't use an email server so you have to pay for a third-party email service to use, you can't control your Content Security Policy (CSR), their plugins/add-ons are terrible, and trouble shooting console problems that appear in your browser are impossible.
If you are looking for an easy way to build a website fast, SquareSpace is a better option. It's the same concept as Weebly but a level above in quality and service.
EDITED REVIEW:
Mine is adjusted to reflect the latest changes. Pardon the caps in the title. I wish I could rate this company zero stars. File a credit card chargeback if you can.
Apparently I was recently made aware of company takeover, hence the change in the their managements and services. People complaining about Free websites further restricted in functionality and demands for payment to lift them.
However if you are still using their service, there's a chance your account would be SIMPLY BANNED WITHOUT reason. That recently happened to me, and this company shirks off responsibility. I just renewed my subscription for another 2 years earlier this year and Weebly decided to screw me over. Below is the chronicle of the incident:
1) Requested for some site assistance.
2) Received an email response on the matter. Didn't realize my account was suddenly terminated without any email warning/ notification on the same day/ the day after. Took me days later to find out.
3) Responded to the same email. Staff ceased communications with me.
4) Called their number. Ineffective, because the "policy team" doesn't take calls and they only respond via emails. You heard that right!
5) After sending a separate email, the policy team responded. Gave a cookie-cutter statement that my site(s) violated the TOS and the ban would not be lifted.
6) I sent several emails to them demanding an explanation (which sites and what terms were breached). The latest one elicited the same response. "Your sites have violated the TOS and we would not reinstate them."
Attached below is the email conversation. Let them speak for themselves.
As you can see, I was not informed that my sites were disabled and they simply did so and cut me off.
That's Weebly to you now. Messed up company.
If you're still using their service, move your site elsewhere (I highly recommend Wordpress + Elementor plugin). Don't be like me; all my hard work vanish just like that.
God knows what's going on in their minds!
FIRST REVIEW:
I migrated to Weebly from GoDaddy because of the good reviews. Initially everything went smoothly, until the editor broke itself.
Because the customer service reps do not support customized CSS (not all of us would want to stick to the preset templates), you're pretty much on your own. Whether an element deleted itself or the codes break, manual backup is the only way to avoid getting screwed. Because once that happens, there's no turning back.
Changes are irreversible and did I mention that they would stay even if they have not been published yet?
Do not use, period! What's worse than horrendous service? Getting banned without reason!
If you're a credit card holder, file a chargeback as long as your subscription payment was made within the last 120 days. Don't let them steal our money!
I decided to move my website from Weebly to another website platform. I set up the transfer of my site but found it wasn't working because there were problems with the DNS records. So I was advised to cancel the transfer and start again. I then went to Weebly to start the process again. The Live Chat agents were totally out of their depth. They could not resolve why the DNS pointing did not work and had no clue about the name changes. I can't exaggerate just how frustrating it has been dealing with them. I have had too many live chat sessions to count in which I explained clearly what I wanted to do yet they came across as confused, dismissive and amateurish. The service was totally incompetent as no one seemed to know what had been said before. They don't appear to keep records of your conversations on an easily accessible file allowing the Live Chat agents to refer back to what has happened, so you end up repeating yourself. They claimed to be able to manually override the transfer of my domain but failed to listen when I said I had already cancelled the transfer request with the new site in order to start again with a clean sheet, so overriding the transfer would not work as there would be nothing to receive it... dohhh! They continuously hit problems putting in the names changes and the A Record and CNames but didn't seem to have a clue how to resolve it. In all it has taken me over 10 days to try to get this resolved and I'm still waiting, when it should have been done in a matter of hours with the DNS pointers speeding up my Website going live and then the EPP being added after that. Right now my case has been escalated to a senior technical person who has told me I have to wait! Really! I am going to lodge a formal complaint with a manager but I don't expect to be a satisfied customer. My only satisfaction right now is venting my anger here and hoping that others will see it and avoid using their services. The hassle is just not worth it in the end. Oh and one more thing, if you do choose Weebly make sure you keep an eye on your account and stop any recurring fees because I got stung by paying fees I needn't have due to a policy which is basically "we (Weebly) will keep taking your money even though you don't use the service you are still paying for".
Don't choose Weebly if you want a good support service
I am transforming my asking into A REVIEW, after reading, just now, other complaints agains the absolut silence of Weebly when someone try contacting them. Read below:
Q: I am trying to get some pre-sign up answers from Weebly but nobody there responds my tickets. I will past below the tickets:
Limits and permissions of the Starter plan (doubts) (Yesterday at 04:12)
Hello, while I am waiting your answer I have editted and added a new doubt in my text below.
Please, can you clarify me some doubts about the Starter plan?
1- How about my earnings on Adsense? I read that 50% is for Weebly Company. I prefer earn 100% for me.
2- Limit of 3 Adsense ads per page? Or 3 including other ads eventually?
3- I sell my own PDF e-book by links to PayPal and brazilian PagSeguro, besides deposit into my bank account, via e-mail. I don't use a online store to sell it. I am planning to create and sell 1 or more e-books more, by the same method of PayPal and PagSeguro or direct deposit into my bank (mainly by my country's people - Brazil. Is it permitted?
4- I have donation buttons of PayPal in my present homepage, in other hosting. Can I maintain them at Weebly?
5- Which is the limit of pages in my website, in the Starter plan? Unlimited?
6- I use embedded Youtube vídeos in some of my pages. Is it permitted?
I cannot sign up the other more expensive plans now.
I already have a registrar for my domain.
My site is www.eurooscar.com
And my e-book page is http://www.eurooscar.com/saude1/indice1.htm
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Best regards.
