Walmart checks a total communication fiasco! Wasted 9 hours of phone and email time!
March 8, 2022

I had used Walmart Checks over the past 5 years with no problem. But that was a different company before. Now, CHAOS reigns supreme! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is saying... or doing. Customer Service Reps began telling me right off to fill out the order phone with them on the phone. After typing all personal info, they next told me that my savings and loan bank did not exist! I assured them it had been in business for 45 years. This "low information grocery clerk" next told me, "Well, you need to research more info about your savings and loan because they don't exist... according to our computer.
I had wasted my 70 minutes of time on the phone. Still no order...
Over the next 2 days of more long holds waiting on the phone, and more people from Walmart could not understand how to escalate a true computer glitch to the next level of trouble shooting and problem solving. They kept saying, "It's up to the bank department, and they are very backlogged right now. Sometimes for 3 to 4 weeks." I called again the next day hoping for a better quality CSR. But, I wasted 2 more hours of insisting my bank existed, why not take initiative and please do a Google search because the bank really does exist. But they flatly told me, "No that's not they way our company works." I said, "RIght now, your company doesn't work AT ALL!" They repeated, "the bank department won't find your routing number if it is not in their computer. During that week, more wasted phone calls were placed by me, and no promised callbacks EVER HAPPENED!
Finally, I was told to just wait for 48 hours on a Thursday. So that meant wait over the weekend until the next Mon or Tues. Today is Tues. And I gave up waiting. Meanwhile, I received a repeat email which was a useless boiler-plate form letter (see attached photo of this email.) With all my monthly bills coming due this week, I still have no checks to write and send payments with. My bank gave me low security protection "counter checks" to hold me over.
Finally, at the end of last week I reached a supervisor finally (you have to literally BEG THE CSR to escalate your call to a higher management level human). After a long 25 minute wait, I heard the Supervisor, Heather get on the phone. For the first time in 10 days, I felt confident she was the miracle worker to get my order processed. She seemed much better informed. But she began repeating the same comments I had been hearing for 10 days, "Your bank does not exist". So I talked her into doing a simple Google search. She did and guess what? My bank really did exist. She saw they had 950 members (svgs. And loan credit union) and they had been in business 45 years. Did this solve the problem? No. She said I would have to wait until next Monday or Tues until the bank department gets the order in their possession. She added, "This is a very rare thing when our computers can't find a banks routing number. Now we just have to wait until early next week to see if the bank department can find the routing number." That was last Friday night. I called today and begged the Walmart CSR to communicate with Heather, the Supvr. From last week. She finally texted her co-worker and was told by Heather, "The bank department still has not responded yet. They should be getting to it by today or tomorrow. They are just so busy". They added "This has never happened before?" I do not believe that lie. No printing company this disorganized could have escaped inuring other customer's orders in the past without incurring many complaints. (Hint: pay close attention to the Walmart Check printing company's reviewer ratings here on Sitejabber. The dismal 1 star rating speaks for itself). Today, I received a repeat email that originally had been sent to me 2 weeks ago. (See attached email). Basically it lies and says "We cannot process your order because your bank routing number does not exist." That was the last straw! I reached the end of my patience. I called MY BANK today and said, "Walmart check printing is in shambles. Disorganized idiots and rinky dinks masquerading as CSR's. I'll just have your bank print my checks!" And here's the best part: I may have lost 2 weeks and 9 wasted hours of phone time and email writing time, but the cost for my 300 duplicate plain personal checks with safety paper is only going to cost me $20! That's much less than the price Walmart was trying to charge me- and for slow snail mail delivery of 3 to 4 weeks.
Wasted, wasted, wasted time galore! DO NOT let Walmart burn your hours of life and living! Also avoid ordering from another company Checks Unlimited! They wasted 2 hours of my phone last Friday they 1uoted a much higher price. ALSO, they said that my bank does not exist as well. (Doesn't any I. T. engineer update computer databases with current routing numbers anymore?) Anyone with internet access can click on the web page for Piedmont Credit Union in Statesville, NC. A whole history and about us section gives all the answers about their 45 year history.
I hope my truthful review saves any future check printing customers from making the mistake of getting ensnarled in the snake pit of Walmart Check printing's trap of confusion, disorganization and out-of-date software and buggy computers.

Tip for consumers:

Unlike other review sites, this site DID NOT try to sell me pop up window items that would interrupt the forward process of writing my entire review. At the end, I had to fill out personal contact info which I generally don't do, but with God as my witness, i decided I would be a good samaritan and warn others about this huge waste of my personal life's time. (I have medical issues that require constant nursing care). I would rather have no strife or conflicts in my days left living on earth!!

Products used:

After wasting 2 full weeks of my life I will never get back, I finally fired Walmart and just had my own bank print my checks...and I saved almost $9 dollars on my $20 order. Walmart would have charged me about $28!

Fraudulent pricing. My total bill 78% higher than advertised.
April 20, 2018

A few days ago I ordered some Walmart checks. I have used them in the past and was happy. This time I saw the price and checked free shipping and clicked to send the order. What I expected to be a $32. Dollar transaction including tax turned out to be $53.35. My bill was 78% higher than expected.

I did accidentally click to submit the order without checking the amount, which was partly my fault, but it was a simple transaction, I have ordered regularly in the past, and I didn't expect problems. As soon as I irretrievably clicked the order the receipt came up which showed I was charged $53.35. This was 78% more than I had expected. This was a shock.

It turns out they have some kind of service fee for helping with fraudulent checks, which I had initially said I wanted and then decided to opt out and clicked that I didn't want it. They ignored the opt out I had clicked and charged me $6 for the service anyway. On top of that, there was a $13.44 processing fee added to the order. This fee is equal to 45% of the advertised price of $29.95. With the added $6 and tax on it, the total bill was 78% higher than I had expected.

I complained to Walmart. They responded saying the processing fee was required to cover their business expenses in processing the order. I responded that this was fraudulent advertising. Their processing fee needs to be included in their advertised price as part of what a product costs. When I see a package of meat for sale in a store at $10.00, I do not expect for the check-out clerk to charge me $14.50, saying that it cost the store money to pay janitors to sweep the floor and to pay her salary. I sent another e-mail back saying that that is part of the sale price of the meat.

I made another comment, that I am reluctant to trust something with my account information who shows so little disregard for truth. That was ignored. Then I realized this is irrelevant. Every time I buy something from Walmart they permanently keep all of my checking account information. A clerk once told me that they ask for driver's licenses the first several times and customer uses a checking account, but once the account is established, they frequently stop asking. They keep a record of all of it.

If you see something advertised in the paper for 29.95, you do not expect to be charged $43.43 for it because the store needs to pay its check out clerks. Even if they make it clear when you go to pay for it that his charge is being made and don't try to sneak it in, it is wrong. It would be nothing more than false advertising.

I have been surprised to find that there are other online check printing services which are cheaper than Walmart's advertised prices, let alone final prices, not adding all of these fake charges.

I will never order Walmart checks again. I hate attitudes of sneaking charges in the are not made clear up front. A 45% increase is not trivial.

In reading reviews, it appears that Walmart has been steadily increasing the processing fee. Apparently, this is a deliberate attempt to see how much they can get away with before the complaints become too loud. I expect at a certain point they may back down from 45%, but once they settle on an amount that gets minimum complaints, i expect this to become a standard. Sadly, on seeing that this has been going on for a while and the processing fee increasing despite complaints, I do not believe it is realistic for them to make a decision based on integrity. This is sad.
