The overall reputation of Vanilla gift cards is significantly tarnished by widespread customer dissatisfaction. Common concerns include persistent issues with card activation, frequent declines at various retailers, and ineffective customer service that fails to resolve problems promptly. Many customers report feeling scammed due to lost funds and inadequate support, with lengthy wait times for resolutions and replacement cards. While a few customers have had success using the cards at limited locations, the majority express frustration and caution against purchasing these cards, highlighting a trend of distrust and disappointment in the brand's reliability.

Absolutely terrible company. Bought gift cards for over $1000. I never received them. Turns out they were stolen and Vanilla tracked the cards and blocked them I still had to pay for them, have the one dispute after the other, nothing can be done. I even submitted a police report.
The card could not be checked on their website right after opening, and attempting to use it was either declined or rejected. Calling in I was on hold for a long time before talking to a person who assured me that it was being blocked for my protection from a fraudulent merchant, but of course I had literally just opened it and it was rejected right away. They are re-issuing me a card (taking 14-21 business days to arrive), but though they assured me that new one would work fine, it never actually explained how the new one would not be any different so this would not happen again.
I had activated my card and used all but 15.00 dollars of the 500.00 in the same week. Someone used the remaining 15.00 at Caesar in NY. I waited for 20 minutes on hold and talked to someone for 15 before getting disconnected. He had all my info to call etc. me back. Told me I would get a packet in the mail to fill out. Didn't happen. What a mess! Glad I only lost 15.00.
Two different calls to customer service they promising a remedy for the $100 scammed...no results. Customer service on telephone...wait time 1 hour. Broken English from customer service rep.
I purchased a Vanilla Gift Card in October of 2022 and when I got home and opened it, some of the #'s were missing. I phoned the drug store (Walgreens) where I purchased and paid a fee of over $6.00 for it. They said "they had nothing to do with the card once they sold it to get in touch with Vanilla Gift Card which I did. What a ring around the circus. They had me on hold for over an hour and when I got someone he gave me bull crap. I called again a couple days later and they asked me to fax a copy of the receipt and the gift card which I did and until this date (2-6-22) I have not received my refund. I finally wrote a letter to the president of Vanilla Gift Card and a letter to the Better Business Bureau and I awaiting a response. I am not giving up. They have no right to be stealing people's money. I say let's file a lawsuit against them and put them out of business. They are crooks!
I purchased a gift card as compensation for a research study volunteer. She never received it. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company and repurchase somewhere else. I wasted hours on hold on the phone trying to resolve this. Use a reputable and reliable company!
We have called several times been on hold for hours only to say we are reviewing issue and will get to you in 24 to 48 hours. Still waiting with no response.
I bought several of these cards for Christmas gifts and every one of them has system error! Total scam!
I have been calling since Christmas, I bought 2 gift cards for 25.00 each to my grandchildren. One worked the other did not have tried repeatedly to call and no one answers. They are a total rip off and I will never waist my money like that again. So save yourself the trouble!a Don't buy any gift card that's says vanilla gift debt
I was given a Vanilla gift card at Christmas with $175 to spend. Before I could use it, some stole the available balance using cash app. I tried to file a claim but got no where. Supposedly, this happens frequently with these cards because the number is stolen off the back of the gift card packaging. I read an article on line about this after my funds were stolen. You can't resolve the issue with them either. Again, I would not buy this gift card! I never will again and I hope I'm never given one again as a gift.
I will never buy Vanilla Gift cards again, they are fine until there's a problem then you have to hunt for a human person like you are looking for the golden grail. If there is a problem with your card not working after you paid your hard earned money for them. Vanilla gift card thinks making you wait three weeks to get your money back is acceptable. Not to mention you won't get the money you spent purchasing the card. How fair is that! You spend money to buy a card and the card does not work but you don't get your money back. So in essence you are just giving them free money when you did nothing wrong, they did but you are still paying for something you did not get. Usually when you purchase a gift card it's for a particular use at some time. How inconvenient and problematic is it when you decide to use the card and it's not working. Not only does that create a big problem, but then you have to wait for the refund. Why don't they issue a refund through the store that you brought it at and make the store wait for them to reimburse them. Instead of making their mistake affect the customer in numerous problematic ways. Suppose you put your last money on a card so you don't have to carry cash and the card is not working. Do you have the luxury of waiting 3 weeks before you get your money back. Suppose you are traveling and you put money on a card and the card is defective do you have time to wait for 3 weeks. So what happens to your need for your money NOW! Then there is the customer service wait time 15 to 20 minutes and the call will easily drop and you have to call and wait again. Absolutely terrible service for people spending their money. The only people that are not affected is Vanilla Visa because they still get the purchasing fee for a damaged card and you the customer gets to have problems, have to wait for your money and still have to pay for an item you did not get. My card had no security code on it, and the card was no good it would not even swipe. So who's fault is that obviously someone at Vanilla Visa tampered with the card. That would be a them problem right but guess who had to spend a lot of time and frustration and ended up being told I had to wait 3 weeks for my refund. Why did I accidentally scrape off the security code, NO it was a bad card from them so why did I suffer and they still get to keep the money I spent on the card. Horrible business they can issue messed up cards at anytime why is the customer suffering for it.
I called last week to check my balance, Boom the operator took my info and then cleaned the card out. I would have never noticed if the online site would have stayed down, this dude has probably made out like a bandit steals thousands from people. I called and reported this to the company but they don't really care. I don't think anyone should use this type card until arrest for financial card transaction fraud has been issued. People that scam off others don't deserve to live.
I received a 150 dlls gift card and a month later I tried to pay in a store and they told me I had no money in my card left. They should be punished. Vanilla cards are a complete SCAM!
First of all their customer service has always sucked! You can't even get no one to even barely answer the phone and if you do by some chance they are not even the slightest bit helpful they will make you feel dumb too about asking any questions They're cocky and rude to you on the phone… I swear I don't know how these people in so called, "customer service" even still have a job?! What a waste of time and money $ plus they make promises they can't keep. If your going to use the card to make an online purchase you mind as well forget it! Even though they're is indeed funds on the card it will just keep saying card declined…if I could give this company a half of a zero I would! Don't buy! BEWARE!
I recived a 200 dollar vanilla visa gift card as a christmas gift. As normal I read through the instructions and activate my card. I check the balance online and everything is fine. One day I go to buy something on amazon with my gift card. The order goes through but the next morning I got an email saying my order has been declined. I try to check my balance and it does not let me log into my card. I call customer service and they said my card got a virus due to suspicious activity and they could not re-activate it. A week later I receive the new card in the mail. Again I activated it and the card was good as new. Once again I try to purchase something else and my card got disabled again for suspicious activity. Apparently im not allowed to spend big amounts of money without my card being disabled. So useless and not a good experience. Thinking of getting someone a visa gift card, DONT!
MIL gave me a 75 dollar gift card for Christmas tried acctivating said it didn't work called told me it wasn't payed for sent proof it was paid for said it'll take a week to fix it put the money on the card 1 1/2 weeks later still nothing call back again told they had to send a new card and it should be here by Monday nothing again today called again to be told its still in review that's not what the other people told me now on hold for 30 minutes after asking for a supervisor must be taking there time to come up with another excuse as to where the 75 dollars went about to make a serious report to better business Bureau I also have videos but they are to long to upload with the customer service reps
I received a Vanilla GiftCard for a Christmas present this year and I hope I never get another one. Tried buying something online and it says insufficient funds on this card.it's a $50 card and had not used it yet. Called Customer Service and spoke to some man whose first language definitely was not English and was told for $1.95 it could be activated.BS because it was activated when purchased. Tried using it at Walgreen's where it was purchased and a PIN number is required but nowhere is there a place to establish a PIN number. I'm frustrated at this point and would never recommend someone buy this GiftCard
The only way to check your balance is online (where you get a "system error -try later" message) or by phone (which they do not answer). Consequence is that you end up with an unknowable residual unused balance that the card issuer ultimately takes into income.
Answer: Same here. Called in and they said it was locked for my protection against a fraudulent merchant, which makes no sense since I just opened it myself and used it at a trusted store. Call in and they can re-issue a new card, though that will take several weeks to arrive
Answer: I would say the fraud dept but I had no luck when I opened a fraud case with them. Good luck!
Answer: A very long time. First time I ever got the card and never again. Sickening.
