I booked for Bar Harbor but had to cancel 5 days later due to medical reasons. They kept over $500. Dollars even though I gave them a 1 month cancellation notice. They didn't even have the courtesy to respond to my message. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS AGENCY!
Just got a text today, one week before our vacation that we can no longer stay at the house we booked months ago because the owner has now decided to be there! There should be some assurance when a customer books a house months in advance and has made all travel arrangements that the house they booked will be available! I am furious that I now have to book something last minute which is much more expensive and way bigger than we need! Vacasa should have to pay the difference! I would not EVER book through these guys ever again!
To make a long story short, Vacasa's lack of communication and consistency on their site had my friends and I cancel our trip for the Summer. The age for rental said 21 and then when I went to pay, they said I had to be 25 with no exceptions. I expressed my frustration, communicating that MULTIPLE places on the site said the minimum age for this property was 21, and they quite literally could not have cared less. They do not care about their customers in the slightest, as I have a coworker who had the same exact experience. They told me they would change the age on the listing to 25 to avoid any further confusion and have yet to do so. I would not recommend Vacasa to ANYONE cause they will screw you over with no second thought. I will never rent from this company due to their lack of care and lack of accommodation or sorrow for my experience, their rude staff, and the overall disorganization and disgrace that they call a "company". I would rather pay more by using a different rental company that has an ounce of integrity and organization rather than something cheaper at Vacasa.
There were no fewer than four lock boxes, incorrect codes, none of the keys fit the door. After waiting 2 and a half hours! NO ONE came to help despite many phones (nearly impossible long hold times). We had to leave without entering the beach and never received a refund. Impossible! Do not use them!
My family has rented many beach houses and cabins through VRBO. We have never had any bad experiences or issues with our rentals. It is always a very smooth process for the most part. I book our rentals well in advance so we have the opportunity to get what we want and have plenty of options.
I booked a beach house for California beginning of February and a few days later get a notification our reservation is canceled due to the owners terminating their contract. They have a "relocation" department that helped us find a different unit. (A department dedicated to finding customers new rentals should have been a red flag). We booked a different condo. Weeks pass and now I get another email saying this reservation is canceled for the same reason. They try to give options of other available condos but by now, all the good ones are booked! It's ridiculous how they can do this to their customers! I will never reserve a rental with this company again knowing they can cancel on you at any given time. They charge the home owner a fee for canceling, so they are still making money! Now I'm out of a beach house and left scrambling to find a nice place for my family.
We originally booked through VRBO not realizing the house was managed through Vicasa. I find the rentals that are family owned and cared for are so much better and well taken care of.
Thumbs down. Do not recommend booking through them.
With incredible disappointment I strongly discourage anyone from renting the cabin Casita Bacon in Vermont or any others managed by Vacasa. We paid in full to stay at this cabin for 4 nights. The Northeast sustained an incredible snowstorm right as we were traveling in for our visit. When we arrived at the cabin the driveway was not plowed, the front door looked buried with snow, and we could not legally nor safely park on the street. With a late arrival and two young children we had to find an alternate place to stay.
The next day we gave it some time for the plowing to be done and tried again. Unfortunately, through the end of the day none of the snow on the property had been cleared and the street plowing had created a 3 foot wall rendering the property completely inaccessible.
I called Vacasa to let them know of the situation even trying to provide photos and they had no response other than, "I understand, but there is nothing we can do." They offered NOTHING. They did not offer a refund of any kind, not even partial, for the loss of the use of the cabin nor the cost for us to stay elsewhere. They did not even offer to come plow the driveway so that we could use the cabin for the rest of our stay. We were completely stonewalled and had to pay the full cost without actually being given access to the property while we were there.
After the Vacasa representative talked to her manager and again said there was nothing they could do I recommended they contact the cabin owner. We own a mountain rental property in another state (and thankfully with a different management company) and I would never want a guest experiencing this. I told her such and she declined to try to contact the owner. I asked one final time if there was anything they could do for us and she said they couldn't do anything until we were checked into the property. When I incredulously asked how we were supposed to do that as the property was inaccessible she hung up on me.
After returning home at the conclusion of our trip, the icing on the cake was an error message stating "This page is not available right now" when I went online to leave my rating on the Vacasa website.
Stayed in October '22. There were issues like, impossible door lock on front door. Also oddly placed antiquated light knobs, loud banging furnace. They doctored our review on their site and completely misrepresented it.
I rented a property in Florida for the weekend. Attempted to reschedule to a different weekend due to unforeseen weather conditions that include severe thunderstorms, hail and possible tornadoes. I would have to drive from Louisiana through Mississippi and Alabama before entering Florida. Vacasa first told me to contact air bnb with my request, who told me only Vacasa could approve such a request. Vacasa has the ability to approve the request but instead declined and told me I had to keep my dates. That means driving threw extremely dangerous weather conditions, risking my life to not enjoy the beach at all. Not to mention that with the amount of rainfall that is expected, it might damage my car. They can care less about what goes on. I do not suggest you book with this company.
I am absolutely in awe at how unprofessional and exhausting my experience has been with Vacasa. My friend and I booked a condo in Breckenridge for four days in February. I was supposed to go back to my hometown for a family emergency, and called Vacasa and explained the situation and how I needed to cancel, but they said no refund would be provided (it was well out from the "notice" window, and I'd think a family emergency with a decent amount of time before check-in would warrant a full refund). Since we weren't getting a refund, my friend and I still decided to go and make the most of our few days there. While we were there, the place was actually pretty nice and tidy even though the wifi was very slow and the fireplace didn't work. Since there was a snowstorm coming in, my friend wanted to leave one day early and get to the airport to beat the storm. Before we made an official decision, I called Vacasa to see if we could check out one day early and get a refund. The rep said YES, but she would confirm with the owner of the condo first. I have a text message conversation with the owner stating that we were leaving one day early and the refund would be processed according to the rep. One month later, I still have not received a refund for one night, even though I was told by the rep and the owner that I would qualify for it. I spoke with a few different people within the past couple of days via text and phone and they are saying there's nothing they can do, despite the documentation I have. I am going to call the actual property as well as Airbnb, but if I am not going to be issued a refund, then I am going to consider small claims court. This is ridiculous, especially because after taxes and fees it would be over $400! Save your energy, save your time and money, and book a Marriott, or a Hilton.
In the past 2 weeks 03/01 to 03/10, we had booked into a Condominium located within the 5* Reunion Resort, Central Florida. To state, this has been our worst experience of renting a vacation apartment ever. The apartment was dirty, there was hair in the bathroom draws, the fridge leaked, the carpets were disgusting and stained, the property needed painting to cover all the spillages where previous guests had split food down the walls, the furniture was end of life and the bed springs on the master bed were pushing through. After complaining to both central and local guest services for 10 days, and having had no air conditioning because it was broken, we relocated to another property at our cost. Fortunately we found a property that wasn't Vacasa managed. Never again will we book with Vacasa. For all their blurb on their website, I can tell you, much of it is not true. Be warned is my conclusion.
I would give a minus star review if it was offered! We had an upcoming ski trip to a home in Girdwood Alaska. I tested positive for COVID two days before and was told to isolate. Other members of the traveling party also began testing positive for Covid. I tried numerous numbers for customer service for Vacasa to cancel the reservation and was on hold for well over 30 minutes before hanging up in frustration, still on hold. There was an option to chat with somebody and they sent me the link and I texted back that I needed to cancel the reservation. I still have not heard back from that text message. I was able to scroll through my emails and found a VRBO email that originated before it got transferred to the Vacasa that had a chat feature on it and I was able to get in touch with an agent and text that I needed to cancel the reservation. There was no option on the Vacasa app to put it that you needed to cancel. Plus, it was the same phone number I was calling if you had a problem getting it to your house or if there was damage or any other major issue. I thought I was booking through VRBO, but they transferred the reservation to Vacasa. I'm going to have to reconsider next time if I want to even book through Vrbo if they're going to just automatically transfer it to Vacasa. It was a good thing that I had trip, cancellation insurance which covers Covid. Vacasa had no refund policy to cover for Covid.
Terrible customer service. The location I had booked was unreachable due to dangerous road conditions and severe weather. They refused to refund me my money!
This company is appalling. We booked Christmas accommodation 18 months in advance to make sure we didn't miss out. 6 months after booking they cancelled our booking as the owners wanted to use their chalet. Of course all the affordable accomodation was now taken and we have had to move our holiday to a different town to even find another suitable house. What we did find is also costing us 10k more! Because they waited 6 months to cancel our booking we lost hundreds of dollars when they 'refunded' us due to the exchange rate difference. They are refusing to pay this back and are also being no help in getting our booking fee back from the website. Do not book a house that Vacasa manage! We've never been to Canada before and the trip is costing us a small fortune and we now have a bad taste in our mouths from this experience.
We will never go through Vacasa again. It's a joke. We weren't allowed early check in and had to wait quite a while to get into our house. Even though we drove by the house and nobody was there. Not a cleaning service or anyone. The lock code was also wrong when we got there and I got stuck waiting on the phone for someone to tell me there was a backup code. The house had lots of dog hair on everything. So much that my son's face broke out in hives. And toenail clippings (which I took pictures of). We had asked for an early check in and late check out on which we were told was a case-by-case opportunity. I eventually ended up speaking to someone about how it's determined if you can get early check in or late check out. I don't even think the employee knew. I was told "it's actually quite simple. It's a configuration." Whatever that means. But was also told you have to fill out paperwork and pay extra. Ok…and why was I not told that? Because I would've done that. But then also was told it wasn't available for the property I was staying in? None of it makes sense. We were at a state tournament that Vacasa was actually sponsoring and we've never had issues in the past with owners or other services being flexible due to the fact that tournaments aren't always predictable. It really put us in a bind because we have a child with special needs that can't be at the games because the noise overstimulates him. So I got stuck sitting in the car with him for over 2 hours and then having to head back home (an additional 2 1/2 hours in the car). Vacasa does NOT care about customer service whatsoever. No matter how much they apologize, it's not sincere. As long as they collect your money, they simply don't care. So don't bother to apologize to me.
Left it up to my GF to rent for a two night stay at Shaver Lake,Ca. Arrived at 4pm, no heat, began calling customer service. 20 degrees. Probably 20 texts and phone calls, no results. Fast forward, following morning, 48 degrees in house, no heat. VaCasa hadn't paid the propane bill. They promised to comp the first night BFD. Now they won't acknowledge that promise. This Service is definitely the worst ever. Do not use!
Vacasa is an absolute nightmare to deal with, and their customer service is abysmal. If you're thinking about booking with this company, I implore you to reconsider. They are overpriced and expensive, and they clearly do not care about their customers.
I recently booked a stay with Vacasa, and I paid a whopping $2000 for just three nights (including all fees) for a hideous 3 bedroom. I was willing to pay this price because I wanted a spacious vacation rental, but what I got was far from luxurious. The customer service was terrible, and the staff was completely inflexible. When I asked if I could have a one-hour later check-out time, I was told that it wasn't possible. I couldn't believe it - I had just spent $2000 with this company, and they couldn't even grant me a simple request.
The lack of flexibility from Vacasa's customer service team is unacceptable. It's clear that they do not care about their customers, and they are only interested in making as much money as possible. I've had similar experiences with other vacation rental companies like Airbnb, and I have to say that Vacasa is just as bad.
Overall, I would strongly advise against booking with Vacasa. The company is overpriced, the customer service is inflexible and uncaring, and the accommodations are lackluster. Save yourself the headache and look for a different vacation rental company that actually values its customers.
The other day, someone posted asking what everyone thought about Vacasa. At first I commented, that so far they had been great with my reservation. After check in, the story changed. Here's our experience, not everyone's is going to be the same.
We rented the Above the Sea rental house.
The pictures were beautiful! They advertised for all these board games and family fun activities that we could do, which was great because we have two infants a small child, preteen and a teenager. And they all looove board games. When we got here, we opened the door. And there was a smell. A bad, mold smell. I had the children wait in the car so we could inspect the house. Upon inspection we found, used condoms, old food, mold in the kitchen, dirty bedding on the beds, the floors had not been cleaned. They had food, mud and sand everywhere. I called Vacasa, who asked me if I wanted someone to come clean. I said yes, we waited for hours and no one showed up. My husband went into the house, found no cleaning supplies so we went and grabbed some and came back to clean the house so the children could go in.
Day two went without a hitch, we had an amazing day, we ended it by hanging out next to the fire place and watching movies.
Day three, the kids wake me up and tell me the roof is leaking in the entertainment room. I call Vacasa, and let them know all of the issues. They tell me they are going to issue a refund on my cleaning fee. Which I thought was fair, because at least we'd get back what we spent on supplies to clean and then some.
Day four, the plug ins caught on fire, it's been three hours and I'm still waiting for them to send someone to come look at the house. Meanwhile there's no water running and the sink is filling with grey water. Needless to say, all of my children are sick. Our infant is now on a ventilator due to mold exposure. Included are some of the photos of the house.
The Vacasa team should be sued for malpractices. They list properties to book which don't have occupancy certificates. Our whole trip was ruined as they could not find us a property in Acadia région despite clearly mentioning the needs. This is after the full payment was made. Last minute we were told our first property does not have occupancy certificate and then the option provided, we were first confirmed that dog is ok and then the day before told no Pets.
We had planned work days off and this is just too stressful
This is the worst rental company. They are practically scammers. We spent thousands of dollars on a rental in Tahoe for a weekend with friends. When we were unable to get up there because the roads were closed due to an unexpected winter storm, they refused to offer any kind of refund or rebook it for a different weekend. The national weather service put out an advisory saying that it was impossible to get up there. That didn't matter to them. We would be have been fine rebooking even for a fee, but they were totally unreasonable.
Upon arriving at Gumbo Limbo 21 on February 18,2023. We were greeted by a maintenance worker trying to fix the livingroom TV, she was not successful. We made 7 phone calls over 4 days and finally they sent someone out with a Roku and fixed the TV. Along with trying to get the tv fixed we were also trying to fiqure out how to work the pool and hot tub. There were no books or guides on how to use any of these items left at the house for renters. We have been staying on the Anna Marie for 13 years and never have we encounter a home without instructions (obviously never used Vacasa) The maintenance person said she turned on the hot tub and pool which was behind a locked panel but of course after she left it still did not work. Again more calls with no response, finally on day 10 the pool guy happened to stop by to add chemicals and we were able to talk to him and he showed us how to operate the system, and gave us his personal phone number in case we had any other problems (great guy!) We got about 4 days to use the hot tub before we left and still never a return call from Vacassa. To make matters worse you cannot talk to anyone on the Island. They have a building but no guests are allowed only cleaning staff. All the other Island rental places actually have offices that you can visit if you have a problem. Vacasa has a number which we found out is Portland, Oregon and then they call and send a local maintenance man. The house itself was very dated and somewhat dirty. The baseboards and windows for filthy. The plaster repair work in the bathroom looked like a 2 year old did it. Very limited dishes, glasses, cooking and eating utensils, pots and pans, and 1 dishtowel. No instructions for leaving except a text that said be out by 10:00 on March 4th. We of course will NEVER use Vacasa again as their overall score from 1-10 would be a 1. The owners should be ashamed of the condition of that house for what they charge.
Answer: It's a monster scam. Avoid at all costs. I've rented several properties that ended up going through Vacasa - despite my best efforts to avoid them. You can't find out that it's Vacasa until after they have your money. It's a criminal enterprise.
Answer: In my experience, construction is their "catch all" excuse for canceling. Follow up to verify that it was rented, but for higher fee.
Answer: I am not sure but for the renter (not the owners) the fees may be charged without full disclosure.
Answer: Bad bad bad worst service I ever got at a short term rental
