Horrendous Service, Don't believe the 5 Star Reviews,
June 22, 2024

Summary of experience for United Regions Van Lines: I got 3 quotes and looked for best reviews from moving companies.

Talked to Matthew Reagan (sales) he nice and helpful with all my questions. I ask for gotchas and he made me feel secure. Decent quote, one company, no broker situation. Said he could get the furniture there fairly quickly. Talked about the 1 to 17 days and insurance. He said both should not be an issue (my first mistake) He also said he was my point of contact for the entire move.

Pickup day, movers came 2 hours late and they showed up in a rental truck. I asked about why not the company truck and he said his was in the shop they wanted to get us going. They also laughed when they saw the stuff and said we were under bid the cost would be so much more. About 4K but we were stuck now. Had to pay with Zelle (my second mistake) The driver had me sign more paperwork asking when we wanted delivery. I said tomorrow. He said not possible I had to put at least 7 days out, he was confident the shipment would go straight there. He also talked me out of insurance said it was not necessary for the huge cost. Because of the care they were packing I didn't purchase. I asked for copies of my paperwork and he said he would send that night. I took camera phone pictures JIC. The next day no paperwork, no call. I call Matthew (sales) who is going to be with me the whole move. He says now he can't help me and passes me to customer support. Amanda (customer support) can't help me because she doesn't have the paperwork either. It's Memorial Day weekend and she sends me a email at 2 pm saying I didn't pay enough so our shipment won't be processed. I try calling. No answer. We waited until Tuesday (even though they said they were working all holiday weekend). On Tuesday I talk to Phyllis, she also doesn't know anything about the shipment but will call dispatch and call me back. Oh and remember the 1 to 17 days. It doesn't start at pickup but at the date you said you wanted delivery. Fine, fine print. So the 7 days the driver made us change makes it 1 to 24 days.

I called everyday for 3 weeks. My daughter, son in law, 1 and 4 year olds slept on an air mattress with no furniture.

NO ONE ever gave me a status where the items were or any information until week 3 when Phyllis called and said furniture would be delivered Saturday. Exactly 24 days. A ratty old yellow truck not from the company shows up. Everything looked like it had just been thrown in. All boxes damaged, furniture damaged. Fireplace we payed extra for special handling for destroyed. There is missing furniture, and a missing box with irreplaceable memorabilia. I called to let them know and sent pictures right away. I spoke with Tina who said she would get back to me and Matthew….Nothing still waiting on calls. Phyllis did call back once and said she was asking around and would call me.

I hesitated making this review because I needed United Regions Van Lines to help us find the missing items. But they haven't helped beyond telling me to file a report with 3rd party vendor for missing and damaged items.

Do not hire this moving company
September 11, 2023

I'll start by saying that I should have done more research on our moving company as every red flag was raised as warned by the FMSCSA (https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/red-flags)

Since I have moved numerous times I am familiar with how many cubic feet my household belongings usually take up and how much a can fit on a standard 26' truck with some room to spare. I'm also knowledgeable about how many wardrobe boxes I usually use as well as total box count. This is why when I had my first call with United Region Van Lines I was confident in my estimates. Mind you, they never offered to send anyone out to actually do an estimate like most other moving services have done for me in the past.

As this point, I will simply list all of the manipulative tactics they use to essentially hold you hostage and ensure you pay significantly more than what the estimate you were provided.

1. After securing United Region Van Lines as our mover they will only give you a 2 week window as to when they will pick up your belongings. This poses many challenges not only how to determine when to book your one way flight to your new destination but also the timing as to when you can estimate when your personal belongings will actually arrive at your new home.

2. I was finally given the pack and move date but was disturbed by the time of arrival window. In previous moves the company would show up in morning and complete the job in the afternoon. This is for a full pack and load. The time they provided was between 2-4PM. I questioned this with dispatch as that would have them at my until at least 10pm. This doesn't work for my family as I have a young son and that's past his bedtime. They claimed that the crew had a job prior to mine and if I wanted them to come earlier I would have to postpone the move. At this point I had already booked the one way flights for my family and secured a hotel. If I changed either of those I would have incurred fees that I did not want to pay. So I compromised, as I'm sure they knew I would.

3. Once the movers arrived, the truck was way smaller than I anticipated but being experienced I wasn't too concerned. What concerned me at first was that the movers themselves didn't seem to know how to move. Two of them were in flip flops which I can't imagine is proper protocol for a moving company and the team lead was frustrated, confused, overwhelmed and simply unprepared for the move. I later realized this was all part of the scam.

4. Within minutes of entering our home he ostensively called his manager because he was concerned that our household goods would not fit into his truck and that we had double the amount of non boxable items then what was communicated during the intake. That was 100% false. Yes, I missed a few midsized pieces i.e. A lamp, and a small nightstand but nothing that would cause the entire move to be jeopardized. I would also expect that a moving company would plan for a "buffer" as the everyday person doesn't always know how many items fit in a box.

5. Let's start with the most expensive piece of the move. The wardrobe box. From my experience a wardrobe box holds clothes, with some shoes at the bottom, some bags and belts if they can fit. In past moves I have needed ~5 wardrobe boxes. That is what I anticipated for this move as well. The company took it upon themselves to use 29 wardrobe boxes for standard household goods that should have been in small to medium boxes which cost much less and which I accounted for in the estimate. The company put chairs in wardrobe boxes that should have been stacked in the truck, household goods such as toys, plates, decorations, packaged food, and other large items that are normally not "boxable" or have not been in the past. In the end the cost of our moved doubled due to the use excess use of wardrobe boxes. The extra weight of stacking in these wardrobe boxes caused numerous items to break.

6. The driver who seemed to be the leader of the the group asked us "when do you want your items delivered"? I knew that a move ~800 miles usually takes ~3-7 days depending on the route and the other stops needed along the way. This was on a Sunday so we asked for them to be delivered by the following Friday. He seemed confident that was not an issue. As such, we expected to receive our good on Friday.

7. Now back to the packing. As the day progressed we were still getting mixed messages whether they could fit all of our items in the truck. We were warned that if they couldn't fit it all they would be back the next day in the afternoon (see there it is again) to finish the job. The problem with this scenario was 1. We were flying to our new home the next morning and 2. We weren't given any confidence that our items could be combined to then be delivered all together.

8. As the evening went on the driver thought it could probably fit everything in the truck if he was able to use the lift gate extender. He said he got the approval to use it from his manger. Great, everything would be moved out in one shot. That was at around 8PM. By 10PM the driver told me he wasn't sure if he could use the extender. At this point at 10pm I had no idea if all of my belongings would be loaded before I left town.

10. Due to excess use of wardrobe boxes and miscalculations on amount of items moved, the mover said the move would cost us about 50% more. At this point, being late into the evening, and with most of my family in a hotel, there is no other option than to be extorted and be forced to pay to the move the balance of the items.

9. At 10:45 pm (as designed) I was asked to sign paperwork. At this point my family had already left for the airport hotel and I was frustrated, exhausted, and I needed to be up at 4am for a 6am flight. I signed.

The next morning, I called United Region Van Lines and tried to speak to somebody in Customer Service. I left several messages to no avail. Finally I got to a human being who was beyond disrespectful, simply put mean and unkind, unwilling to help, yelled at me, talked over me, didn't listen or answer any of my questions and kept saying that since I signed the paperwork I have no rights at all and no right to ask simple questions. I was told that I should have told the movers to go away if it was getting too late into the evening. I was told that I should have told the movers to go away if I didn't like the fact that they were wearing flip flops. Not only were these asinine recommendations, there was absolutely no accountability nor an ounce of empathy. I have never been treated so badly in my entire life. I asked if I could speak to a Manager, or possible the CEO or COO of the company. I was told that the President of the company refuses to speak to customers.

Now let's get to the delivery:

1. Remember, we were asked when we wanted our goods and we said Friday? Well come to find out there was is a 21 business-day window of delivery based upon the day you said you want the goods to be delivered. The company will point to the fact that this is in the contract; however, when the driver asked when we would like to have our items to delivered, we assumed he was asking literally, as anyone would. It is also unfair to assume that a customer would read the fine print of a contract at 10:30pm on the day of the move. There is a reason why fine print is no longer legal in certain industries (e.g., credit cards).

So the 21 days didn't begin until that Friday. This would mean that we would not receive our household goods for up to 4 weeks from when we had anticipated. This posed many problems including but not limited to having to pay more money for hotel living and potentially have my son start school without his school supplies.

At this point, we weren't even sure we would ever get our goods, if United Region Van Lines was a real company and if we would just have to start over. This caused many sleepless nights, tremendous anxiety, and utter sadness that many of our personal items and memories that can't be replaced would be gone forever.

2. Days went by with no communication from United Region Van Lines even though we continued to leave messages to get delivery updates.

3. Finally two plus weeks later we received the call that our household goods would be delivered. While we were thrilled to have a date were so so apprehensive that all of our items would be there, what shape everything would be in and how we would get the thousands of dollars in cash they were requiring on delivery. Yes, this was a cash only transaction that had to paid in full before they would even unload the truck. We were stuck!

4. In 2023 most transactions happen via Credit Card, Paypal, Zelle, and many other methods. Most people no longer carry around more than a $20 bill. We had to figure out a way to come up with thousands of dollars in cash in the midst of a moving, starting school, starting a new job, and being in a new state.

5. Once we received notice of delivery, we learned that the window was at the end of the day (3-4pm). Again, the same tactic used for the pick up: wear them down, make them tired and they won't notice the damage, sign papers they normally wouldn't and create a hostile environment. But at this point, which they knew, we just wanted our belongings so we didn't argue with the late delivery.

6, They show up at 4PM, (only 2 people which seems to be part of the scam, the longer the stay the more worn down you are) our mattresses are tied to the back of the truck and we have to hand over thousands of dollars before we can even see if our goods are all there. They also ask us to sign paperwork that all of the items were deliver in good order before they even unload a single item. We refused which seemed to have made them uncomfortable, agreeing to let us sign at the end.

7. They started unloading and showed no regard for our belongings or our new home. It was clear that our items were sitting on that same truck in the same position for 2 weeks in the heat even thought they claim that the goods were in a "climate controlled" environment. Numerous items were melted and damaged as a result.

8. The amount of items that were broken were in the dozens. Cracked dishes, pictures frames broken with glass everywhere, an office desk that was virtually unusable, left numerous items in pieces that they said they would put back together (shelves, equipment), and the worst was our bed that was torn to shreds and had a huge stain on it. The stain looked like something was spilled on it such as coffee or soda. This was a gross violation of our belongings and an additional expense that we were not planning on incurring. Our bed was new and we now had to purchase a replacement.

Needless to say we didn't notice most of this damage until they were gone at 9pm. We also have extensive scrapes on the floor and chipped wood and paint throughout our new home.

It's imperative that I share this experience in an effort and hope that they can no longer operate business in this capacity or close down operations all together. They are not qualified to have a business license let alone a moving license here in the US.

Awful to a T
July 28, 2023

If you want your things moved and abused, load your truck at 1am outside of your quoted pickup window, and delivered in an UNtimely manner, these are the movers for you!

They told us when they were coming and moved that time twice to different days when we had flights booked which we had to move resulting in $1K fee to do so, with no reimbursement from the movers. The second time they showed up at 1am to pickup our things when my husband had to leave for the airport at 4:30am so he was up over 24hrs. The movers that showed were foreign and spoke in their native tongue to each other to exclude him. Super professional (said sarcastically).

Then our things sat for 20 BUSINESS days. And were delivered on the 26th BUSINESS day narrowly making the 31 BUSINESS days they try to throw on your bill of lading and is NOT stated on your quote.

BEWARE of your initial quote. They will blow so much sunshine and sound like the best movers ever then when you have no choice they bait and switch. For example, they don't check if they can fit the moving truck to your new home until they are delivering and if they can't and have to downsize, you have no choice but to foot $1500 to get your stuff. THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN CONSIDERATION WHEN QUOTED. United you can do so much better. If you don't have the system to check it, buy one.

The only shining light of this company was Lisa in QA, she was more helpful than anyone in customer service. Every single person is an "oh well you signed it" attitude.

Stuff showed is hard rubbed by something metal, kids beds busted, huge slice in our zero turns seat, missing side of our smoker, busted totes. Your things will be well cared for!

You guys just suck as humans
July 4, 2023

Shortly after we moved to Georgia my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer for her second time. We got through all of her treatments and decided it was time to move back closer to family in the Midwest. Being that it was just me going to have to pack and load everything once again for a family of 4, we decided to hire a moving company. I thought I did a decent job doing my research on moving companies and picked united region van lines. BIG F*****G MISTAKE!
Mr. Brian Phillips who is a salesman for the company went over my inventory, had me send him pictures of EVERYTHING in my house, shed and barn, then gave me a quote of 10k+. I figured that would be fair since I didn't want to load and move everything again by myself across the country again. He told me that someone else would get back with me before the truck arrived to go over my final inventory. That someone called me 4 days prior to the truck showing up and we went over the inventory once again. During this process she asked about certain items which weren't on the original inventory. Stackable washer and dryer? She asked. I said no it's a full size set. Riding lawnmower? I said 2. Well let's go over this room by room. So we did. Brian decide to be a lazy P.O.S. And not go through and list everything that I had sent him and that we had dscussed. So the lady said that she needed to send the updated inventory back over. When she got back on the line she told me that I needed to pay a certain amount on top of the deposit I had made in the beginning and so much was due when our items reached the destination. It was 5 grand more than originally quoted by Mr. BRIAN PHILLIPS. I asked to speak with him but was told he had already (conveniently) left for the day. I told them to put the move on hold until I had a chance to talk with him and straighten everything out with him. He called the next day and was apologizing about the misunderstanding and would see what he could do to rectify the situation. Best he could do is drop $1000 off the extra 5k they quoted me at the end. That wasn't the original quote so I decided that wasn't good enough and asked for my deposit back and I'd find a different avenue. I was then informed that I wasn't getting it back because I had to cancel at least 7 days prior to the truck coming. Convenient that their person didn't reach out to do final inventory until 4 days prior.
To say the least they thought they had me bent over the barrel with no where else to go and thought that I'd have to make a panic move and pay the extra 4-5k. I ended up buying a 40' shipping container and loading most everything by myself but hired a broker to line up cranes and a semi to get it moved north. It was still cheaper to go that way then pay the crooks at united region van lines.
Avoid this company who dosn't give a damn about you or your belongings. F these guys and the company.

Horrible experience
June 28, 2023

Update. Dealing with this company has been a living hell. Do your research before using them. They did eventually show up and we were there when they loaded up, we left fully expecting them to be not long behind us but after a few days in our new state we received a call that they had not left Albuquerque and would not do so until we forked out another $1700 because as they insisted they had to ship another 400 cubic square feet.

Here is where it gets interesting. We had two 5x10 storage units. The max capacity for each unit is 400 cubic square feet so with two units that is 800 cubic square feet. I can't lift over my head that far since I'm short so the boxes didn't reach the ceiling and I left room to navigate inside the rooms so I was far below 800 cubic square feet so where in the hell did they get another 400 cubic square feet.

No matter how we tried to explain it to them, they refused to listen. We tried calling the company themselves and left messages but they were ignored. We were trapped, they literally said they wouldn't bring our stuff unless we paid more money, so we had to pay it.

We were told they couldn't drive more than four hours at a time when they left as soon as we paid yet miraculously, they made it to Virginia within a day and a half.

The people that dropped off our stuff came with flip flops and wanted another $1000 to bring it into the storage unit. We refused, they called the manager and he threatened to throw our stuff in the street so we had to get a different unit and said we would unload it ourselves. We got a single 8 by 30 unit that is 60 cubic square feet less than what we had before an lo and behold, it all fit in there.

As soon as they opened the doors the truck we knew most of our stuff was damaged. No care at all was taken with anything. All the boxes were crushed. Gaming tables were broken with legs bent. Credenzas and other items were damaged beyond repair.

We had to unload that truck, we were scammed out of $1700 and they don't even have a claims department for the items that were damaged. We've emailed and called but no one responds.

Go with a reliable company, don't give these people your business. If I had done better research, I would have seen the complaints and even a news article about this company.

United Regions Van Lines is deceptive and unscrupulous
August 5, 2022

Do NOT BELIEVE the 5 star reviews for United Regions on any review site including BBB. They are fake. Please trust me when I say do not use United Regions Van lines alias United Nation Van Lines ( yes, they have an alias, big red flag). They do not accept credit cards. Red flag. They want 1/3 up front in ACH payment (red flag) and only USPS money orders after loading and increasing the cost of your move. Worst move I have ever experienced. They verbally promise you everything you ask for in their lowball estimate based on volume (red flag), to hook you in and pressure you to sign paperwork before it is complete with services you ask for. They never ask to see your furniture or boxes, and never ask for details about your furniture (red flag). They then increase the cost on the QA call, and again after they get your goods on the truck and again before unloading even though you signed a binding estimate. They do it because they can get away with it. The excuse is your furniture is bulkier than anticipated and can't be stacked. It has to be spread out and crated resulting in increased volume, packaging and labor costs. Our final cost: more than 1.6 times the original estimate. Packing services we paid for were not rendered, furniture was damaged when loaded and unloaded at the warehouse. Loading and delivery outsourced to 2 different moving companies even though United Regions claims to not be a broker. Unacceptable wait time for delivery, 30 days, lack of communication( many calls, emails and texts go unanswered), mixed messages (pack materials means we'll pack it but on loading day it means here are the packaging materials for you to pack your own stuff) and lies (60 boxes and up to 90 boxes take up the same space on the truck so cost is the same within this range). They do not tell you before loading that you have supposedly exceeded your volume allotment, but after everything is on truck, and they have 2/3 of the payment and you have no time to look for another mover. Very unscrupulous practices. In the end, all you will get is damaged, dirty and stained furniture and heartache. If you don't like bad surprises or nightmares, do your business elsewhere. In the end your move will cost the same as a reputable, up front company and you will have a lot less deception and game playing to sort through. United Regions/United Nations knows how to use every underhanded trick in the book to get every cent they can out of you. They prey on and victimize you when you're at your lowest and dealing with the extremely difficult situation of moving, selling and buying a home. They will not compensate even though they promise they will. They answer BBB complaints with no resolution and tell you they don't know what you mean. Terrible, rude custmer service yells at you, hangs up and never wants to talk to you again if you try to resolve any issues you have with them after they get your furniture in their filthy, disgusting incompetent wharehouse, which you are never told about found out about it from moving guys.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
July 20, 2022

This is by far the worst company I have ever had dealings with!

Moving halfway across the country is stressful. To alleviate that stress, we decided to hire a professional team to pack and move us. My husband read tons of reviews and finally decided on United Regions Van Lines. We have now determined that all the "5 star" review are fake and paid for.

Our first call was to a sales representative by the name of Philip. We did a video call walk through to get a detailed account of all our belongings to determine how many cubic feet would be needed for our move. Philip also sold us on their "white glove" service. He explained that professional packers would come in and carefully wrap and pack all our belongings for us (Worst mistake ever, but I'll get to that later). We accepted the offer, set the date, signed the contract, and paid the deposit.

From then on the communication was atrocious. QC was supposed to call us a week prior to pack/pickup date. This never happened. We left several voicemails the went unreturned. Several emails were sent to Philip, also unreturned. One day prior to pack/pickup, Lisa called my husband to gouge him for another $2K. Ok, fine. Money paid.

Day one of packing/pickup, no one shows up. No calls. We called several times but couldn't reach anyone. Day two rolls around and we're finally able to get a hold of Carin, a supposed manager, at United Regions Van Lines. She charms us with her wit and sarcasm and assures us that our house is only a one day job and that the crew and driver will show up on day three to do everything start to finish. Ok, great. So, day three comes and surprise surprise! No crew, no driver. This is a Sunday you see, so the office is closed. Day four, We are now outside of the contracted dates. By this time we are very anxious. We have to be out of the house completely by the next day. Finally get a hold of Carin again and she apologized for the inconvenience buy says that the driver and crew will arrive at our house shortly.

Now here is where things really start to go south. I stay at the hotel with the kids and the dog to ensure that we will not be on the way. My husband meets the driver, Russell, who informs him that he doesn't have a crew to "White Glove" pack us. But not to worry, one is being put together as we speak. As random people start to show up to our house, my husband hears them introducing themselves and referencing the daily work ad from Craigslist. Ok... so I'm guessing these are not professional packers. Nope, not at all.

When my husband sees the first person take out a kitchen drawer and dump it in to a GIANT clothes box, he starts to panic. This is not "careful packing". Russell is nowhere to be found so my husband tries to be everywhere at once to instruct the packers on how to pack. This does not work well.

My husband, trying to keep me from losing my mind, doesn't tell me that our personal belongings have been treated in such a way.

17 days later, our belongings finally arrive! Yay! But wait, please hold your enthusiasm until you see the condition of which your things have arrived.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Absolute and utter disarray. Everything in giant boxes that I can't even reach the bottom of. It literally looks like a box was placed at the end of a counter and someone used their arm to just Swipe/slide it all down to the end and into the box.

Broken perfume bottles, shampoo spilled all over everything, bars of open soap, jewelry, all just mashed into a giant box.

My king size platform bed broken into pieces, unrepairable pieces. All the hardware for my children's beds is gone. My L shaped desk has been destroyed.

Do you want to know the best part? The "customer service" person from United Regions Van Lines laughed at me and told me to file a claim. No concern, no accountability.

If I could give this company ZERO stars I would. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. You will regret it
