What reviewers want you to know

Positive highlights

  • Tumblr is another blogging platform where users can post text, quotes, pictures, video, etc.

Critical highlights

  • You decided queer misfits are harder to market to than the people who literally want to kill them.
  • I think it is starting to get to the point where a lot of Tumblr users frown upon people being like this, though.

They keep downgrading their dashboard and overall user experience. No matter how much the majority of users give feedback to the staff, they simply force these downgrades. Tumblr used to be an amazing and exceptional social media website, but the recent trend makes them seem to want throw away their uniqueness. At this point, if you're fleeing Twitter, it might be best to look into other options than tumblr - its future isn't looking bright.

Mullenweg and his subordinates like to claim that it's a 'free speech' zone that's friendly to oppressed groups, while spending an outrageous amount of time and company resources on policing, threatening, disparaging, silencing, and OPPRESSING those very groups. From calling all Black users "russian troll farm agents" to repeatedly and assiduously tracking, stalking, and silencing anyone who brings attention to this habit, Tumblr is an enemy of anyone who signs on. Responding to the deaths of more prestigious networks by *copying the behaviors that ruined them* demonstrates that Mullenweg's & Tumblr's ability to harm its users is more important than turning any sort of profit for once! Shame on the entire staff and their pathetic boss.

Tip for consumers:
tumblr's quality is an attribute of its users; it would be a much higher rating if not for its staff composed of die hard harry potter fans and self-loathing right wingers.

Customer service gives you cut and paste replies, on the rare occasion they reply. They will not help you. I've just lost an account I've had for over a decade because I lost the phone number associated with it and even though there are dozens of methods of verifying my ownership (including me talking to them via the verified email address) their response is essentially that I'm out of luck. They want to keep your private information and sell it to advertisers. Never seen a tech company that have no backup methods that don't require you to be logged in to fix LOG IN ISSUES. Absolute nightmare.

Tumblr tries to "look good" but has the worst treatment of customers. They trap you with campaigns you need to pay to get more "likes" for your works. But you won't get many. They send you messages that you campaign was "full impact" with many views and hood-lookung statistics. But you don't have the "likes". You try to contact them -which is really difficult - but you won't get any (senseful) response. Tumblr is just blablabla... won't recommend it for any artist!

Tip for consumers:
Online platform for artists who's "good look" is just a fake! Hands away!

After having data removed, they leave your name in their server, so the brand can be searched still off the back of your name. Delete means delete, or it does in certain parts of the world where brand piggybacking isn't consider good. Once you as them to delete, they should remove all data, morally and done without question. I now see why the customer service gets a low mark. Why do brands like to claim your data as their property, weird... and bit creepy.

Tip for consumers:
Data isn't the first language, privacy isnt when it comes to them as a brand using your name. They mention about the public using your name only.

I didn't want to use their site, but I was trying to follow some content that applies to my career. So to follow, they asked me to register. Fair enough, but then they asked my age. Like that's any of their business? I tried to input that my age was negative six, but they saw through that and gave me the boot. Maybe they should try to make a better first impression. Geez.

Tip for consumers:
They'll want your data!

Tumblr has been a downright disappointment. They target queer, trans, and POC creators while leaving hate speech and dangerous users on the site. They even unfairly tag normal pictures of trans women as explicit. They refuse to listen to their users and are constantly making changes that no one asked for and that people are actively saying that they hate, and are actively removing accessibility features. They're trying to make their site more like Twitter or TikTok when its users don't WANT Twitter or TikTok, we want to use TUMBLR. The site is overrun with bots that try to scam you and staff has known about this for years but refuses to do anything about it.

They claim that people with epilepsy should just "buy the add-free" so they don't see ads with flashing lights that could literally KILL THEM. They also have extremely invasive promotions, such as what they're doing with Netflix's live-action One Piece. Even ad-free users who are paying to not see ads are seeing this. It's frustrating and annoying, and no one asked for them to change the layout of the dashboard to continue to push this product. This stunt is actively making me hate One Piece rather than making me want to watch it.

And to top it all off, they claim that anyone with negative feedback is just trolling them. Despite hundreds upon thousands of people all saying the same things over and over and over again. It's disgusting, it's disheartening, and I wish that staff would pull their heads out of their asses and actually listen to the people keeping this dumpster fire of a site going.

Tip for consumers:
Staff won't listen to you. Good luck with getting anything done if you have a problem.

Tumblr is no exception to this. Social media is a fad now. In fact go outside and talk to people instead. If you can't go outside and talk to people then you're an $#*!.

Tip for consumers:
Social media should just be outlawed for the safety of decency

Once upon a time it was actually excellent. Then Yahoo was bought by evangelical halfwits who bought Tumblr to evangelicize the hell out of it, slamming art pages, lifestyle pages and destroying the entire site. Then other halfwits bought the site and were deathly afraid of the Bud Light style backlash that would happen if they were less evangelical than the oppressors that destroyed the site in the first place. Compared to what it was, it's no more than 1/5 as great, shocking no one. What's the point in buying a site that you're afraid to let become good?

Tumblr is currently trying to become a copy of reddit, twitter, and instagram by shortening posts and reblog chains. A fundamental cornerstone of their platform. As well as other $#*!ty recent decisions (tumblr live, trying to make the platform more like tiktok, etc)

Expect 40+ spam bot notifications a day. If you report them, Tumblr management laughs in your face and does nothing to ban them. So you have 90% of the activity on the site literal spam bots and 10% snarky content farmers. It's not really much of an interactive community at all. Then there's the whole secondary blog thing with zero ability to comment as your secondary blog or follow others as your secondary blog. What's the point. The platform is rubbish. The management is rubbish. I wouldn't be shocked if all Tumblr was at this point in time is a laundering racket like Craigslist clearly is. This website and their trash phone app are a complete scam.

Tip for consumers:
Don't use it. And if you do - don't bother with secondary blogs. You can't do anything with them and all they don is amplify the spam bot spam.

There are abundant places where adults can go online to be alone with content. What was rare and is now rarer still are places where adults can go safely online with adult content in a community setting. Tumbl abandoned the vast number of users who helped make it a worthy brand in December of 2018 when they decided to restyle themselves as morality police. I'll never log in again, but I'm not deleting my account, just so they'll know whom they're NOT reaching now.

I commissioned this 'journalist' who apparently has marketing experience and it was the worst mistake I've ever made. He clearly has no problem stealing and thieving so be warned. I would steer clear unless you want him to disappear straight after receiving payment. He demands all payments upfront and straight after he will stop answering all correspondence. Stay away from Jamie Newsroom Lewis.

I honestly think this site and all is very under staffed.
I know there are a lot of people who use the site, but to not be able
To help someone that it'll take literal years for a reply is just downright sad.
Not to mention many people have been getting away with cyberbullying people.
Unless something changes, I don't recommend this website.

I remember on tumblr I once received a message from someone who tried to tell me that an anime I liked was created by someone who was creating racist propaganda. I told her not to believe rumors like that on the internet, especially on a place like tumblr. Turns out, I was right and that the anime isn't created by some evil man. And it was just a rumor.

And that's basically what tumblr is like 24/7. Idiots believing in a lie without any sort of proof. They will bully people, they will argue all day and night. And the most embarrassing thing about it is that most of the people doing this are adults.

Some of the most craziest people are on this website. Sure, there are a lot of creative artists and writers. But most of the website is trash. Remember Kony 2012? Remember DashCon? Remember the ball pit? Yes, people on tumblr will blindly follow anything you tell them, as long as it makes sense in their little minds. Then they hurry to their blogs and type away about how 'brave' they are because they're fighting for what's right. Just as long as it fits in their little bubble.

Can't stand this place. It is horrible. I tried using it as a way to make friends and also share my hobbies and interests with others. Also, most people on tumblr act like a bunch of high school bullies. If you don't 'fit in' with the rest of them, you're treated like an outsider. Look, if you're an artist or writer, find a different website. Or even better, just leave social media behind because they're all horrible.

They are a horrible company unwilling to help their users. My email got deleted and they refuse to send me a password link to a new email address. There are blogs online which i have created ages ago and are associated with my name.
They're keeping my information public against my will.

They are a disgusting company.

The site will completely censor you. The below screenshot is my attempt to access my OWN blog. There is no porn or nudity on my blog. I have always kept it safe for work as it is mostly a writing blog. And yet I'm stopped from viewing my own content. Not only that, but they completely allow pedophiles and hate crimes with no censorship.

I reported a fake "beware" written against me that uses very contradicting "evidence" abut my alleged wrongdoing against a known ban-evading hate artist on DeviantArt which is why I left the site in the first place, but they just HAD to escalate it to Tumblr to make me feel as unsafe as possible and started stalking and harassing me there. It's been a very long time since my abuse report has been submitted. No response. Seems the staff couldn't care less about bullying victims... Considering the fact that a lot of suicides were caused by cyberbullying on Tumblr, I feel I shouldn't be surprised it's still dying, and yet I am.
Do not go to this site... At all. Seriously, it's a very harmful, hateful, bullying paradise of a site. Just, stay away for the sake of your sanity and mental health.

It used to be a site where you can be free with your art and your interests but it's turned into a place now where they have a censoring bot that goes around censoring nipples basically or anything that looks "seductive" and not well either. There was an outbreak of porn bots, which btw ARE STILL VERY MUCH ACTIVE, and that was the reason tumblr wanted to implement this, but they went about it the completely wrong way. They are going against everything they stood for and i honestly am done with the grieving of this site. It has been long overdue that tumblr would die just like myspace and every other trash social media site that started out well and just collapsed due to bad decisions.

Tip for consumers:
If you want to waste your time, use this site.

I've had a Tumblr blog since 2010. Things used to be great and then the Russian bot accounts (some with porn, some without) that spammed tags made things crazy for a while. It's settled down, but since December 2018 when they started flagging posts for "adult content" it's gone completely around the bend. I have a blog dedicated to an old sci-fi TV show. I make a lot of photo posts, which are completely SFW. Tumblr would flag more than half of them as "adult content." I'd appeal them and they'd get reinstated, but it was very tiring to go slogging through all these posts and have to appeal them. I contacted Support countless times and they were useless. Going through my blog's archive, I recently discovered that posts I'd made 1-2 years ago had been marked as "possible adult content" and were hidden from the public. Clicking on the actual posts came up with "URL not found", meaning they deleted them (below are photos showing what happened). I was never even notified of this. Angrily contacted Support, got their useless "Zendesk" bot with a totally irrelevant reply. I'm just disgusted they've deleted totally innocent, SFW posts without notifying me. In recent days they've laid off flagging my new posts but I'm nearly done with them. I've backed up my blog to Wordpress and will continue updating there. Thanks for turning what was once an enjoyable experience into a nightmare, Tumblr.

Tip for consumers:
If you're going to make photo posts, keep them at 5 photos or less. I've learned that anything over 5 photos will trigger the flagging algorithm (yes, it's a computer program that does it, the actual humans couldn't be bothered I'm assuming).

They are some of the most incompetent and unprofessional of all social media sites customer service. They make you jump through hoops for copy right issues. Very ignorant childish responses and approach. Definitely avoid having to deal with them at all. I showed the proof that my business name is being missed used and submitted documents yet they still fail to remedy the issue and keep demanding more documents.

This website will terminate you account anytime without explanation, completely arbitarily. Everybody can report your blog or posts for whatever reason and you get deleted. To make a blog on tumblr ins complete time waste since you have the risk that your account gets terminated anytime. Futhermore there's one of the most brainless support I've ever seen in my life. There are much better alternatives, I really can't recommend tumblr.

"Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that
Feature adult content." (Tumblr CEO)... And even more sites are available to block
Content at "their" discretion. Tumblr will now be one of those communities. You might consider better sites (instagram, pinterest, facebook etc.) that function under restrictions. If you like the Puritan movement, these sites have strong communities already. "Adult content" is meant for "Adults". If you consider yourself an "Adult" you will have to go
Somewhere else.
