The owner is fabulous. He is full of great ideas in relation to any work you put his way but ultimately is a good listener and does EXACTLY what you want and pay him to do. His skills are brilliant and he does most of the work - fetching experts in a particular field only if necessary. This saves on time and money and work is taken forward promptly and to a high quality.

Went to 5* rated plumber. Messy service & left boiler leaking & all attempts to contact him were ignored. Had to get another out. Complained to Trustatrader - toothless - just put a strike against his name! He is STILL on their recommended list

I would love to know what the Trust A Trader vetting process is for their traders as we have just dealt with an absolute cowboy (John Blackburn, New Garden Landscaping) who has left us with an unfinished garden, all of his waste and (now that we have complained) is saying we owe him money! Trust A Trader have done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to assist us in their 'mediation'. We provided evidence including bank transactions, photos and videos of shoddy workmanship and waste, text message evidence - all of this to dispute the traders lies but Trust A Trader have not bothered to look at any of it. They also flagged my partner and I's Trust Pilot reviews for them so they couldn't be seen, and refused to post our bad review for the trader on their site for weeks while they "investigated". They will do EVERYTHING they can to avoid bad reviews being posted, and their customer service team (I'm looking at you Julie Rutherford) are terrible. Avoid this company like the plague!

Absolutely appalling.
Long story short the builder we found on the site refused to finish the work (because he was 'not well enough'). He left with £20k of our money - we have a quantity surveyors report that arrived at that figure - and despite numerous discussions with trust a trader he is still on their website and to make matters worse he is a 'featured trader'

Their mediation service is a joke; we sent them a 50pg quantity surveyor report detailing the work done and the balance paid and the amount that the builder should refund us. Their mediation consisted of sending him the report and then telling us he disagreed. End of story.

We know this builder has done the same to another couple & mentioned that to trust a trader. We found human excrement in the garden after they had been working, they lost our door key and didn't tell us for nearly a month. Trust a trader really don't care.
Honestly, the traders are their customers, not the consumers and it shows.
They won't let you leave a bad review before going through their joke of a mediation service either - so I can imagine a lot of people don't bother, it's all setup in favour of keeping the traders on there (and presumably collecting their fee).

The tradesman did an appalling job with my flooring which resulted in me having to completely remove it and replace it at considerable expense. I contacted TrustATrader with all the evidence. Dealing with this company was traumatic. They did ever thing in their power to stop me posting a negative review. The person I dealt with was rude and dismissive. I was viewed as an irritant and an inconvenience. Clearly this company is only interested in posting postive reviews. Avoid using TrustATrader, their sole focus is on preventing any negative reviews been posted so that they can keep the traders on their site so they can pocket their commission

Had a painter come in to decorate after finding them on trust a trader. The decorator was appalling and did not prep any of the wood work, he sprayed paint everything including a £3000 door that he did not cover. Long story short he walked of the job after paying him £1000 and I've had to get another person in to take everything back it its original state and re-decorate. Contacted Trust a trader who were not interested as the decorator had taken himself off the site after our job and there was nothing they could do apart from offering to send me a copy of their vetting process! Avoid at all costs as their vetting process let's anyone in, even the cowboys. Like my builder said to me, if you are a good enough tradesman you will not need to pay for a membership to trust a trade, you will get enough work through recommendations and word of mouth! Do not use trust a trader!

Wow, I thought by using trust a trader we bypass the hassle of finding a trustworthy trader after a previously bad choice which left us going to court to get things rectified yet here we are again, on the cusp of having to take another trader to court and I know we will win again. The trader started off nice, supplied us with invoices for the materials and told us that he would give us a receipt for the monies paid and an invoice, he said that we have to pay cash everyday and after the last day he would supply the receipt and invoice - with him being associated with trust a trader we thought it would be fine. Before the last day of works we asked that top soil was ordered and they would come to spread it, so after the patio was finished we paid the money and waited 3 days before inspecting as the cement needed to dry. We had him out again to quote for a family members drive way in the meantime. We noticed that some of the works carried out were not up to scratch e. G: loose tiles, loose scalloped, broken brackets, broken pallets left behind our wall and lots of clean up. We spoke to him and he said this would be completed when he returned to do the soil. That never happened and he blocked me and my partner from contacting him. This is not new to us and we had previously had these problems with other traders but knowing we had gone through trust a trader we felt we would be able to get this sorted, HOW WRONG WE WERE! Firstly the 2 staff members I interacted with have to be the worst customer service agents I have dealt with and I should know, not only am I ADR trained but I worked for Nissan as the CEO's customer service manager for Europe. The staff I had the displeasure of dealing with have a very low understanding of mitigation and managing expectations, they clearly side with the traders and will not divulge any information to you, but you must provide information to them and they share that with the trader not vice versa. The trader claimed that they were not paid yet we have supplied bank statements showing cash taken out on the days works were carried out to the sum total that they were charging, we provided evidence that shows they quoted a family member after works were completed, a text stream showing they were coming back to carry out more works and the remedials but after not showing up on 3 ocsssions we ended up being blocked and at no point have we had any contact asking for any payment. I'm sure any logical person could work this out as them doing a cash in hand job to avoid tax, but not trust a trader - not a brain cell between them. They never answer questions or pick up the phone they only email very short vague emails. I would never recommend this site to anyone and will be taking their verified trader to court. Not trustworthy at all.

They don't post negative reviews so you don't have a full picture of the person you are potentially hiring to do your job. This is completely irresponsible. We ended up being stung by a rogue trader who took our money and didn't carry out the work and Trust a Trader were unhelpful and my negative review won't be posted and the guy will go on to do the same to another poor person. It's disgusting that Trust a Trader are not just letting this happen, by actively deceiving us by removing negative reviews and even helping these crooks. Disgusting - how can you sleep at night?!

Overcharged. Work was so poor that I have had to pay someone else to do it properly. When I wrote a bad review the trader messaged me with a threat. When I passed this on to the site they agreed to remove my review. So I guess this explains why there are such good reviews. The site must agree with traders ripping off and making threats to users

We had an issue with a "Trustatrader" trader, who walked off the job, in breach of the contract. He left a job left incomplete, with open sewers, with a total disregard to health and safety matters, and also a balance of the deposit money. Spoke to "Trustatrader" who allege to vet all the clients and have a code of conduct. They promised to intervene and contact me, but never did. Also do not provide sufficient space to leave a meaningful review. They also do not publish negative reviews! Therefore does not give a true and fair view of the traders reviewed

Alex M from trust a trader is commenting on all these negative reviews, I took Alex up on his offer to discuss the issue I had, but they brushed it off and have not got back to me, this is the third time they have ignored me after I bought a genuine concern to their attention about one of the traders on their site!

TrustATrader are there to promote the traders who pay for the advertising. However, when a trader is not professional then the trader is protected because it is them that pays for TrustATrader. Therefore, it is not worth anything to see reviews on that site. They are probably fake. I had a roofer who had great reviews but actually they were very bad. They did not follow Health and Safety practice, threatened neighbours who complained and did a very poor job on the roof. They complained the whole time about not getting enough money and about any weather issues - giving the weather as an excuse for their inability. They left loads of roof materials in the gutters and did not fix anything without being prompted to do so.

They allow traders to offer discounts on future work for (and Ill be specific) reviews (which can only mean good reviews as a bad one wouldnt get a discount!). It makes the whole concept meaningless.

I posted a genuine negative review but it has not appeared on the site and I have not been contacted per their review process. How can you "Trust" any of the Traders on the site if they don't post negative reviews? I won't be using them again.

Hi Matt, thank you for your review. Here at TrustAtrader we take negative reviews very seriously and always investigate each negative review before they are posted. This can sometimes take some time and may be a reason to why the negative review has not been published yet. We do publish negative reviews and if you would like to find out a bit more about our negative review process, you can find it here: https://www.trustatrader.com/the-review-process

If you would like to find out about your negative review, please do get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to answer any questions.

I used this site to find a local decorator. On the basis of all the positive reviews, the trader turned up for a quote and low and behold, failed to turn up on time...
So, despite all the positive reviews, I left a negative review, as I felt this was justified, given that there was limited time and the trader agreed to be there for the duration.
The review was removed from the site and a very angry, annoying woman continued to harrass me, calling every day for me to update my review.
Basically, the traders pay money for Trust a Trader to protect their reputation - despite being totally rubbish at their trade - this site treats lay people like idiiots and should be shut down or reported to the trading ombusdman as they don't want to recognise negative reviews.
This was a really bad experience and the "customer care" abuse I got from trust a trader - now to be renamed trusf a scammer, won't be used or recommended every again.

PLEASE AVOID THIS SITE - look in the yellow pages, get 3 quotes from different trades and you'll have much more luck.

Tip for consumers:
Please avoid. Look in the yellow pages, get 3 quotes and make your own mind up - don't reply on this scammer site where trades pay to protect their reputation.

Found a damp proof company (with 20 excellent reviews) on trustatrader.
Came round stuck a moisture monitor in my walls and said I had rising dam on two walls. Didn't even test if rising damp or penetrating damp and I have a clearly visible damp proof course.
Told me he could do the work the following weekend or if we wanted it done next week it would be more.
Honestly, how can this possibly be a trusted trader?

Trustatrader led me to believe my bad review would be published and they would assist me liaise with Mr Rogue Trader. They took for ever to reply to y emails calls. Eventually Mr Rogue Trader was removed from the site. They claim they had liaised with Mr Rogue Trader's PA, but he doesn't have a PA. They also said they would help with the small claims court. I don't believe they actually liaised with Mr Rogue Trader as I don't think he communicated with Trustatrader at all. Rather then help me out it was easier to just remove him Mr Rogue Trader had 40 reviews so I am left with a shoddy kitchen and I am out of pocket having to get remedial work done. He also damaged my property.

I contacted TrustATrader to ask about a builder who had 5 reviews posted (all with 5 stars) within less than a month. They were totally uncooperative and stalling with every email. Half the time they could not be bothered to read correctly. I had submitted reviews previously about the builder, but as predicted none of them were published/posted.
Use with caution!

I have contacted Trust A Trader several times about a company listed on their site, who has after 6 months failed to finish a job that was quoted to take 6 weeks, they have missed loads of appointments and everything they have done so far has been substandard and not to building regs. They have cause damage to my property and tried to cover up bad workmanship. Having posted a review about them on Trust a Trader backed up by emails and photos. Trust A Trader will not post the review and no one there will answer my calls or emails to discuss it.
Obvious to me this site only exists as an advertising platform for traders and is only willing to post positive reviews to encourage companies to stay with them. How can you trust a site that will not post a genuine and accurate review just because its bad?

Apparently there is another side of them one cannot see and this is about builders been able to talk down customers, a builder told me.
Never ever managed to get somebody professional from any of those sites, those builders are extremely aggressive even swearing by text, missing appointments or/and charging the earth saying if they are on the site then it is because they are good. If they are so good, would they be on those sites, I very much doubt. I am a woman off 69 years on my own so I have to be careful who I let into my property and frankly I have found most of them so bad manners I would not be able to trust them.

I have advertised on trust a trader now for 3 years and never had a bad review regarding my works I recently had 1 bad review published from some one iv never worked for and not being able to prove iv never worked for them it was put up and another review published with false claims and after sending all correspondent to trust a trader I had with the customer inc photos supplied by my customer which evidently proved she had undone my work due to diy it was posted
I will be removing everything I have associated to trust a trader.
It seems to me as a trader you don't even have to work for some one and they will post a review

A local cowboy builder who was recently in the paper for being as such had excellent reviews on trustatrader. I unfortunately thought trustatrader was a reputable review site. So I chose this cowboy builder. Based on trustatraders good reviews.
This cowboy fleeced me and in the end had to go to court.

Trustatrader wouldnt post my negative review. Even though I provided evidence of the court proceedings which they asked for. They simply stopped responding to emails.
They are more criminal that the cowboys.
I am in this mess as a direct result of their negative review filters.
