TripAdvisor is my go-to resource for travel planning. I always consult their reviews and recommendations when researching hotels, restaurants, and attractions for my trips. The user-generated content provides valuable insights and helps me make informed decisions. However, I've encountered occasional discrepancies between the reviews and the actual experiences, so I always take them with a grain of salt

“Booked an excursion, never got picked up and no refund from TripAdvisor.”

I booked an excursion in Mexico to go to Chichen Itza for 4 people which cost $800 CDN and the tour hosts did not show up at our resort to pick us up even though we were up and outside at 6am like they asked. When I put in for a refund through TripAdvisor they just ignored me. It's been a month and they haven't responded to my refund request at all. 800 dollars is a lot of money and I will not be using TripAdvisor again.

It was a simple log-in problem but became a 24 hr work to solve with innumerable chats, calls, repetitions, checks...
Clearly a company which could not cope with the challenges automatation brings and which loads that incompetence onto their customers...Not useful is on top the use of exotic call-centers with bad english and worse connections...anyway: for those with enough time, there is always a solution, you just have to find it...

Tip for consumers:
its a travel agency and the product is a service

Legacy Vacation Club, "Hilltop" in Steamboat Springs, CO has gone downhill over the years. For owners, there are high maintenance fees and yet, very little has been done to upgrade the rooms. The mattresses are poor in quality. The stove is so old one can not read the numbers on any of the dials. The carpets are stained and torn. There are no dishwashers. The rooms have not been updated regarding fire sprinklers. The sinks are slow to drain. If you are an owner, trying to find the time to vacation, it is very frustrating. Most dates they will tell you are booked and yet no one seems to be there. They save rooms for those traveling to Steamboat.
On the upside the staff is very friendly and helpful. They have some nice amenities, grills, weight room, and a swimming pool.
We have stayed our last time at Legacy Vacation Club. So many other available places to stay for the money.

Verified purchase

I recently purchased show tickets through TripAdvisor's subsidiary Viator. I mistakenly chose the wrong date - a week earlier than we would be in town. I did not realize this until after the original show date. I asked if I could transfer the reservation and was told I couldn't and was berated for not noticing within the policy 24-hour period. I understand policy and if I was trying to cancel it would be different - I still wanted the tickets, just on a different date. I don't recommend booking any entertainment through this site. Out the money and no show tickets.

Heard great things about this place but was very disappointed. Don't ask for more bread to start.frowned upon...felt very rushed.not even an hour into the experience. Appetizers were ok. Very small portions.my Sicilian mother-in-law sauce was better than the rigatoni I was served.Dessert was Zeppoli which they are known for.very heavy and dry. Not served warm.assistant to main waitress was not friendly.would not go back especially for the price we paid.so many other good restaurants in Collingswood.do your self a favor and skip Zeppoli.over rated for sure on the reviews I read prior to visiting the restaurant...their glory days are gone!

It gets frusterating when reviews are rejected, but that travel forum they have not only is stationed in North Korea, but it's owned by the same administrator that owns the city-data forum; Kim Jong-Chul. And like city-data, there is no freedom of speech and no respect for the First Amendment of the United States Constitution on the Tripadvisor travel forum. And the reason is simple; North Korea is a totalitarian dictatorship. There is no freedom of speech in North Korea. Saying that the Kim Dynasty did something wrong gets people publicly executed in North Korea. Reviews are checked by a moderator before they are posted, and even true reviews get rejected, giving another feeling like the entire Tripadvisor site may in fact be stationed in Pyongyang. And like on city-data, if they don't like your forum posts or your reviews, they permanently disable your Tripadvisor account. They also enforce a zero tolerance policy for shared IP addresses on the forum, especially school and library IPs, and they never, ever allow anyone to post from a school or library IP; that will get your account immediately and permanently disabled, including if you log in on a school, college, or library computer.

Purchased advance tickets for the Museum which is supposed to whisk you inside without standing in line. HA! Pouring rain and the line had probably 100 people. Showing our "avoid the line" ticket to the door guard, he said no... that means you avoid the line inside the Museum, not outside. Go back into the rain with all the other people that have the same ticket. Finally, getting inside... there was another long line and everyone had the same "avoid the line" ticket! Take this into consideration when you buy "advance. Avoid the line" tickets!

Over the weekend we did some traveling and found a few places which we needed to write a review about. One in particular was the Comfort Inn North east, Maryland. Having been at tripadvisor for several months and acquiring a positive status. I created these reviews only to have then remain in "pending approval" I then get an email saying that these reviews have been decline on the grounds that they violate their terms of services. Mind you 1 reviews was positive, while the other two were leaning towards the negative side. I've since contacted tripadvisor and informed them that their site is biased and prejudice to any and all reviews and those who create the reviews. In essence I had to locate a review site just so I could post a negative review about another site. I think posting any reviews is a bit pointless. Who actually believe these reviews anyway. Oxymoron in my opinion. Never the less the issue still remains, TripAdvisor and many other sites hire people like you and I to write only good reviews just to make a company look good and did you know that those companies you review actually read what was said, and if they don't like what you've said they can have you banned and or have the review removed and what about the legalities of writing a review. While on Yelp, I was threatened more than 3 times because of a review thus I was forced to edit or remove any reviews which didn't appeal to those companies I gave negative reviews towards. So do you believe this is a bad or good review of a site that doesn't allow members to right to create and speak their minds about products or services?. In other words. How does one get the word out that something is wrong when one can't contact the company with a complaint?..

I don't understand why some Tripadvisor staff/employees/agents/whomever feel that I am not a customer they should treat well. Rude and curt service in helping me with a problem I see on their website.

After being told we should list our properties on Trip Advisor we set about putting one of our properties up through a sister company (holidaylettings.uk) but htis has since been merged into the new Trip Advisor website along with another sister company (Flipkey).
This should have been fine as we were told that the listings would just be transferred across to the new dashboard and when we went to log into our account we were re-directed to this new site.
Problem is that we ended up with 2 listings for the original property but we cannot access one of them which means the costings and availability are completely out of date and there is nothing we can do about it.
We also have a couple of reviews on this listing that do not show up on the new listing but when our guests go to leave a review it goes onto the old listing not the new one.
We have been onto Trip Advisor several times but they seem either incapable or unwilling to sort things out.
Would I recommend Trip Advisor to anyone? Definitely not.

We rented a very expensive vacation home from Magical Vacation Homes in the Reunion Resort in Florida. We have vacationed at Reunion every Thanksgiving for the past seven years. From New England, we rent a home with a private pool for the serenity of it and do not go into the Parks. Having paid for pool heat, we were disappointed to have none for our entire stay. We were never notified that there was a problem until we called Magical only to be told that no one was available to fix it because of the holiday. After NUMEROUS calls to Magical and their care team, we were told that the heater had to be replaced and was being "shipped." In Florida, wouldn't you think they could go to a pool supply store and purchase one? Needless to say, we had no pool heat in November for our stay which spoiled our entire vacation. We ere told to use the other public pools on the property but we did not pay for a very expensive pool home to use public pools. Please do not do business with this company. Their communication was horrible and extremely aggrevating!

I made a booking, I thought through "Trip advisor" to find it was booked through https://www.cancelon.com. What I thought was the rate and booking I set up with Trip Advisor was 2 rooms with 2 adults each. The confirmation from CancelOn showed 2 rooms 2 adults. When I immediately called CancelOn for clairification I was told 1 adults only per room. To add two more adults to the reservation resulted in close to doubling the cost advertized with Trip Advisor, To cancel at that time would result in a $220.00 fee. Absolutely ridiculous, After some discussion with the nice representive and his discussion with his supervisor, the fee was reduced to $110. This is still too much for a 15 minute transaction that was deceiving from the beginning. I would advise people to avoid offers from Trip Advisor and do not allow CancelOn to make the bookings.

As an owner Trip Advisor doesn't help you one bit. They allow you to publish a minimum of info ( compared to airbnb or similar), and I found the calendar doesn't work. There is no Customer Service to speak of. It's all pre-recorded, and all based on keywords. It's the worst of what a computer driven world looks like.
However, the traveller seems to like the complexity, and completeness of info for planning entire trips. That means that the owner becomes quite a small part of the attraction of the website, and this leads to a minimalistic presentation of our rooms.
I like the way the traveller is encouraged to make contact, but this is a slow and unreliable way of taking bookings. With some travellers it works, with many others it costs you a lot of patience and careful explaining to get things done.

I have had a fair experience with TripAdavisor, till two weeks ago. I found a economical airline ticket of about $145 each flying within Peru through an online travel agency called "OneTravel.com" under TripAdvisor. OneTravel is almost a scam. First, after the booking, they let you choose a seat and I did my selection, but no response! Next morning, an e-mail sent to me saying they are willing to refund me $23 because they can't give me a seat? I never knew there was an extra charge of $23 for seat selection in the first place. I then did see a charge of $23 and a credit of $23 in my credit account. But they refused to refund me the ticket price of $145 even they can't find a seat for me. I don't want to travel in S. America without a set confirmation. So I called my credit card company for a dispute.

TripAdvisor, please take my advice; remove OneTravel from you site; it is ruining your reputation.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid OneTravel.com

When I called Banff International Hotel in Banff, Canada to make reservations for 3 rms for 3 nites I was told all they had left are their most expensive rooms for@ $145 Can dollars a nite. Well they LIED to me bec I called several other websites selling case in the same hotel and they all had availability for a much lower rate $105 per nite, for 3 rms, for the same date May 7, 9, 10, 2014. So I made reservations w Booking. Com. So be careful, Banff International Hotel has dishonest booking practices to charge hundreds of can dollars more such as my case. Grac

Opodo now provides a rubbish service all round. We strongly urge you to book your air tickets elsewhere, directly with the airline if possible, which you now can in the case of Air Europa, the airline my wife and I always use to go to Madrid.
Since we last booked our flights through Opodo, they've changed their online check-in pages and, in the process, mended what wasn't broken and broken something which worked OK, with the result that the new system is more time-consuming and complicated than the old one, certainly in the way you choose your preferred airline (if you want to travel with only one and not opt for two or more carriers). You can't delete all the unwanted airlines in the same operation, but instead, each time you delete from the list an airline you don't want to travel with, the page shoots back up to the top and you have to scroll all the way down again to delete another one, and so on until you're left with the airline you want
However, that's a minor issue compared to two other time-consuming and irritating problems we've just had with them:
The first issue was with the flight booking confirmations they sent us. My wife received three documents which correctly detailed outbound flight / inbound flight / outbound+inbound flights with correct return air fare price), but I was sent only two. One of them correctly detailed the outbound+inbound flights and correct return air fare price I actually paid with my bank card, but the other detailed the outbound flight only and also showed an air fare price for an outbound flight only, which was obviously different to and less than the price for the return flight). This issue may, but should not have arisen partly because, unlike the old system, which allowed us to check in under one booking even when we were travelling out together on the same date but coming back separately on different dates (as we are this time), the new system didn't seem to allow us to do that, and we had to check in under two separate bookings.
The second issue arose because I was obviously a little concerned that I might be booked on only the outbound flight (even though one of my two flight booking confirmations showed that I was booked on both the outbound and inbound flights and showed the correct return air fare) and accordingly phoned Opodo's helpline.
The last time I phoned Opodo (about changing a flight, as I recall), I spoke to someone in the UK with an English accent and the matter was dealt with little hassle. This time, after I was kept in a queue for some time having to listen to an irritating jingle over and over again before someone attended my call, it soon became quite apparent that he was a part of a call centre somewhere in India, not that I necessarily object to dealing on the telephone with somebody in India, or anywhere else overseas. What I do object to is having to talk over a poor line (with a slight time lag) to someone who, like this chap, not only has clearly limited English, a very strong accent and talks too fast (gabbling whole sentences one after the other I could hardly understood a word of), but is also unable to understand me properly, even when I speak as clearly and slowly as possible. As an example, I had to repeat my booking reference number over and over again. When I said the number "eight" (making sure I sounded the ‘t' at the end) he repeatedly understood it as the letter ‘A'. My concerns were heightened when at one stage he told me I was booked on the return flight with British Airways rather than Air Europa, then confirmed that it was indeed Air Europa.

I have just had a terrible experience with Getaroom.com, a site I was bumped to from Trip Advisor while making a reservation at a Hampton Inn. Hampton Inn has been fabulous and cheerfully refunded the disputed amount. BUT Getaroom is still trying to force me to pay for a night's lodging at the Hampton Inn even though they have already refunded Getaroom their money! Apparently Getaroom's business model is to force you to pay for a room you didn't use even when the hotel has refunded the room charges?
There are (at last count) 1328 reviews for Getaroom. Over half - 714- give a single star which in their words equals a rating of "Terrible". Why is TripAdvisor, a trusted site I used to rely on completely - allowing themselves to be associated with this fraudulent and dishonest organization? All the reviews use words in their headlines like SCAM, FRAUD, BE WARNED, MISLEADING. These reviews could not be worse. TripAdvisor people, please wake up and get rid of these crooks. FYI I am also contacting the folks at Hampton Inn who apparently authorize Getaroom to do business on their behalf. No reputable company should want to be associated with this website.

It is a good p[ace to view and read where ever it is you want to go. However,
We made reservations and the renters gave us bogus contact information.
When we complained to TA, the person just decided to cancel our reservation.
Another person tried to pass onto us, some $103.00 "fee", that he is suppose to pay.
We ended up finding a rent from local Jamaicans. We called them and worked it out so we paid NO security deposit or cleaning fee.
We just paid the rent in cash when we arrived. It worked out really good, but this is VERY RARE and not indicative of the experience you might have.
Never losing their number and we will not only rent from them, without Trip Advisor being involved.

All of those rent by owner sites are sketchy. (FLIPKEY, HOMEAWAY)
I write reviews of where I stay FOR TripAdvisor and they still would charge me a booking fee.
Try and work it out, that you do NOT give your credit card to anyone in a foreign country and NEVER Western Union or use PayPal.
TRIPADVISOR is NEVER going to help you out if anything goes awry.
They only care about getting the FEE from the RENTER for using their website.
You come dead last.
I had to file a dispute on a rental in Puerto Rico because the people turned out to be scammers.
They totally changed the contract and they added in other FEES, so we backed out.
It was a royal pain in the butt and I had to cut up my card and wait for a new one to arrive.
Crying and getting stressed out, booking a VACATION is not happening to us ever again.
ZERO customer service gets them a 2 star review!
