For two days straight tracfone have been unsuccessful in porting over my service from boost mobile after a series of verifications the port was unsuccessful my phone read not supported after putting in the SIM card before I bought the SIM card the rep told me they do support my phone and everything will be ported over I will have no problems that was not the case after trying several times the phone read not supported so I proceeded to call for a refund it was only today I spoke to 2 reps who told me we need to verify your account then we could issue a refund if we cannot verify your account we cannot issue you a refund so am like what account!? I don't have an account with tracfone then the lady said she will send me verification code to my email the same email they used to send me the receipt of payment for my order I received the email when they got my money for the phone but when it was time for them to do verification for my refund she keep saying we send the verification and I said I did not get it several times we tried with different reps for 2 days straight the lady in refund department said let's verify the calls u made in the last 90 days I said to what phone number I don't have an account? She said I cannot give u the number u need to verify once again I don't have an account with tracfone what phone number are u talking about? She did not say she said we cannot give u for security purposes that information so I said do u see my purchase for the sim and the 1 month of service payment she said for security reasons I can't give u that information and since we cannot verify your account u need to call your bank and dispute it with them, I said what do u mean u cannot verify my account I gave u the order number my pin on the account my email so u keep telling me we cannot I said this garbage u cannot verify my account I told u I don't have an account and so what do u need to verify? So she said u need to go to your bank I said why she said to dispute this transaction I said but why do I need to go to my bank which I already did but what I did not like is she was not giving me a proper answers about these verification process and my refund and I was already very angry and frustrated I said to her u already collected my money and I have no service now u want me to go through verification to get my money back u did not ask me for verification when u took my money but now u want to put me through a series of verification to get my money back so I said ma'am this is atrocity unbelievable! U collected my money u see that I have no service u are saying I have a an account when I don't because am bringing my number from another company I gave u the order number for my purchase and you still cannot verify my account!? So the representative from refund department in the middle of the call and me explaining to her my problem she angrily hung up the phone on me knowing fully well my problem was not solved at all I will not as much as possible do service with this company again as God helps me my god that rep treated me badly, before she hung she said I will be denied access to use my credit card and to do services with them in the future I was like WOW! So u took my money I have no service your rep hung up on me and then your response is take it up with your bank u won't have access to our services anymore really! So this is how tracfone treats customers like nothing with no regard or respect! Wow!
I saw an advertisement on Home Shopping Network and stupidly fell for it and bought a 5G Motorola Stylus phone with Tracfone as the provider. I needed to get a phone with internet capability to use to sign up for services that send links to your phone to complete their sign up processes. You can't do anything with those links if you only have a little flip phone with no internet on it, even though you have a computer with internet, The come on to buy the phone was that, if you only used it near your existing wi-fi, you could make and receive all calls and go on the net through your wi-fi and not pay anything to use it. They also claimed that you could use your existing number without signing up or another service or discontinuing your old service. What a bunch of lies! I simply went to the Tracfone, com site and the very first thing it required you to do was input the serial number from your new phone. I put in the number and it turned red and said the number was not recognized. It didn't give you any options but immediately, a chat box opened, and a person started asking me what they could do for me. I simply advised of the issue with the serial number and asked what the problem was, and he said he was in sales and would transfer me to a person who took care of technical issues. The supposed tech person identified himself and, I again explained the serial number issue. He started asking questions like my name, phone number etc., never mentioning the serial number issue. He never mentioned anything about any plan, account or asked if I was ready to get an account or anything that would have to do with an account. All of a sudden, I got a message from my phone service provider saying that my account was being cancelled and my number was being transfered to Tracfone. Almost at the same time, I got a call from some lady from Tracfone who started giving me a "ticket" number to transfer my number to them. I was still trying to "chat" with the person on-line and he said that he had successfully set up my new account. I asked them both, what account. They said they didn't have access to that information and just kept trying to get me to proceed. I asked if the account plan was for 1$ a month or $100,000.00 a month and they did not have any clue. I had not even looked to see if they had any plans that I might have been interested in. I had planned to try and keep my old service carrier because I was pretty happy with them. I'm afraid I lost it a little and she just continued to try to get me to write down the "ticket" number. I guess that was her only job. The moron on the chat line quit responding after telling me he had set up the account. I hadn't given him any information that would have allowed him to bill me for anything. I finally told the poor lady that I would rather tie a string between two tin cans to use for a phone rather than use Tracfone. After much investigating, I was able to up-grade my account with Cricket to include internet service for a whopping $5.00 increase. I was able, with my crappy little phone to accept and forward the links and complete signing up for the needed accounts. I won't be using the little phone to surf the net. I didn't need that. I took my favorite hammer and smashed the brand new Tracfone. It was a glorious release of frustration! Best hundred bucks I ever spent! I would never use or recommend Tracfone because of their false advertising and tactics on their website. Thanks for reading my rant! Best of luck!
One of, if not the most dishonest companies I have ever dealt with in my 68 years.
Motorola 5G stylus phone w/ Tracfone service: Didn't use it. Ended up smashing it with my trusty hammer.
I was a loyal Tracfone customer for the past several years, until last week. I have to say my cellular service was always good with them, but the quality of their customer support has significantly declined for me over the past couple of years. I was also not happy anymore with the plans they offer for the prices and the rewards program. From what I am reading in a lot of other reviews, other TFW customers agree with me, especially with the customer service.
Every time I would try to call or chat with TFW support, I either got bounced around to multiple agents and half the time I didn't even get my issues resolved. Either they couldn't give me an answer or their answers were contradicting. A couple of months ago for example, I switched from the $15 a month plan to the $30 plan so I could get more data to go away on vacation with. I signed up for auto-refill and was charged the full $35 after tax instead of the $25 discounted price for two months. I called and an agent gave me a full refund and told me the following month I would be entitled to the auto-refill discount. The next month came and I was charged full price again. I called back, explained what the agent said the month before, and this agent told me I was not eligible for the auto-refill plan. That was the first I ever heard that. I was never on that plan before and had been on the cheaper plan before that for a solid year. I received contradicting answers and it made me angry being a loyal TFW customer for years up to that point. I also noticed it was becoming very impossible to earn rewards monthly on the limited games they offered. The wheel used to allow me points here and there to accumulate to my reward balance. Once the wheel was taken away and brought back, it never landed on points once in an entire year I was playing it. It kept landing on stupid restaurant vouchers to restaurants that weren't even in my area. The games could only be played once a month, except the surveys which were twice a month, and it was not worth it anymore for one free gb of data which is what I always saved my rewards for. Useless program. Offer more games and stop making them impossible to win. It's like they want to offer a rewards program, but at the same time they don't want you to ever earn anything free.
Since leaving and going to Mint Mobile, I'm getting 5G on my phone off Wifi in places where I only got LTE with TFW, and paying $15 a month for 5gb of data a month and unlimited talk and text. Although in a new customer promotional plan, I only pay once every 3 months and will get to stay in a $15 a month plan that is $25 a month regular price, if I pay ahead for the year. I've done the the math folks, and so has my husband and he too switched to Mint with me this week. 5G is available in more places for me than it was on TFW, and customer service is wonderful. I don't get bounced around from agent to agent, wait time is always less than one minute, even on Labor Day weekend when I signed up, and they know what they are doing. Problems are resolved instantly.
Having played far to many games with this company over the past 2 years, I decided to change to another company, and they could not seem to agree to transfer their number, and when they did it did not work or process correctly. Just about as bad was the loser company Puretalk, which could not make my phone work in their system for making calls. Between these two companies Tracphone did not port correctly, but the phone did activate to Puretalk. They told me my ATT phone was compatible with Puretalk, so I gave them a try. They and tracphone were collectively playing games to the point where when I called Puretalk they had tracphone on the line to help play games. The number transfer process ended up bricking my phone so no phone calls could be made. After, following the game playing of trying to resolve this with everything other than talking, Puretalk stated the phone was not compatible with their service, which is not true since it has there ATT related frequencies and is an LGV V60 Thin Q 5G. When I became frustrated in them not making it work, Puretalk declared the ATT phone is not compatible with their service. 10 hours wasted playing games with Tracphone and ten for Puretrash. It is best to ignore these lousy carriers and tracphone cannot even speak English well enough to fix problems. They are cheaper than real carriers, butnot worth the poor service both failed to make work. I could not even make phone calls after tracphone passed my number to Puretalk. Now, neither can release/port my number to another real carrier like ATT, because that would be too simple and neither knows which company is controlling my 8-10 year old number I have used for those years. Steer clear of thes companies, since they make a deal and break it as soon as they want to dump or manipulate your account or ask for a number transfer (port) to a real company.
Never waste time with these liars and weasels, since they have helped Puretalk brick my phone and then Puretalk said my phone was now not compatible and would not give money back as the fake guarantee they use states if not satisfied. Cannot get refunded because they do not have to honor those guarantees and have held my transfer to a new phone company hostage to prevent me from getting refunded. Both of these companies were on the line at one time playing games, so now no phone calls work.
None, since I cannot get either swine company to port out my number. I have decided to go to ATT but neither company claims to control my number, nor will port to ATT. when I request porting protocol from Puretalk, they give me the procedure for tracphone and their contact, evem though my phone has Puretalk as the last carrier and has control of my number. There is not enough time in the day to save a few bucks using tracphone and their Singapore company struggling to speak English. A language barrier is always a great excuse for companies lieing to you or claiming they do not know what you want done, or are asking, etc.
***UPDATE***(New)*** Well we were able to get our refund through PayPal. I escalated it so that it was done within weeks (they never even fought it or contacted PayPal) I got my money back for my iPhone but it took some dedication.
As of today I use Tello... so far it they are a good company (knock on wood) although it does have some spots that it doesn't cover. The price is affordable considering we really don't use it that much. Instead of buying the best phone I bought a plain Motorolla which does the job and its still working!
*UPDATE*So, they sent our new cell phone to Tennessee... we live in Oregon. UPS has been working with us so that we at least have the new phone... no luck... plusss we have no phone number somehow it was deleted even though we have paid our monthly service fee so our number should be active. Apparently they lost all of our information, the defective phone all of it in fact they can't even bring up our account because we no longer have a phone number to look up. I guess our names have no meaning only our phone number.
At this point we are looking into a new service plan. If anyone has an idea of a good company or service plan please leave a comment.
OLDUPDATE: We were finally able to send the iPhone back no thanks to TracFone CS. Instead of being able to print out a label and have our local UPS pick it up when they dropped off a delivery we went to the UPS drop-off and asked them for help in sending the iPhone back, It worked they were able to take the information we provided to return our package... now the wait to see if we get a refund or whether we get a phone that works.
ORIGINAL: The worst customer service I have ever encountered. I thought Mint Mobile, the chatbots that go nowhere were really bad, I was wrong there is worse...TracFone's customer service is number one. TracFone is so bad it makes me laugh really its comical at how bad their customer service really is. The only good part about TracFone is how inexpensive the payments are monthly, plus we have been with them for a long time. But its all a bit different these days.
We had an old Samsung smartphone that wasn't supported anymore by our bank (I was very reluctant to change phones because the quality of the products offered in the US has taken a nose dive). So, I made the decision to buy an iPhone at an affordable price through TracFone. Little did I know that it was a refurbished phone in fact it was sold to me on the basis that it was a brand new phone.
My family had owned this iPhone for 2 months when it suddenly stopped charging. We looked up troubleshooting information online whether it could be the apps interfering or the charger etc just to make sure it wasn't something simple. We kept trying to figure it out until I realized that every time I moved the plug it would turn the charging on and off so it needed to be returned.
No problem right? WRONG! The first person we talked to was in India, she couldn't even speak English in fact she was no help at all because she didn't understand what we were asking. So, she had her supervisor call us who spoke English well but was unable to give us her full attention due to fact she was helping several people all at once. She was able to send a label to our email so that we could return the phone... all done? Nope. What she sent was unusable. We called again the next person we got said they would call us in a half-an-hour... two hours go by so we call TracFone back the next guy we talk to had no investment in helping at all so he hung up.
This is the second day we have tried to get help from this company as I am writing this review another family member is calling again trying to get help. I will post an update on whether we get a refund or not. I think TracFone is on the outs. It was a decent company that we supported for over ten years and it worked, but now it is just another Mint Mobile.
DO NOT USE Tracfone! My plan was set to expire in November 2023 and currently had 975 min, 822 texts, and 1.01 gigs of data remaining. Knowing I wouldn't use all of that, as this is a back up phone for work. I purchased a 1 year extension on May 20 carrying me until Nov of 2024. Out of the blue the other day I get an email stating my service was set to expire on July 29 unless I renew. (Where did that date come from?) So, I called Tracfone yesterday the 29th and spoke to Victor (Employee#*******) who assured me he had set my phone to reflect the correct expiration date 11/20/24 at midnight. I wake up this morning and you guessed it NO PHONE! Tracfone just stole $80.00 from me.
UPDATE 08/01/23
I spent 3 hrs on 07/30/23 speaking with Jenny, Mika, Aira, Jolo, & Jessica and 2 reps which I didn't catch their name. Each time having to explain the whole story over and over! They then transferred me to refunds where I was disconnected 4 times before anyone answered, spoke with Michelle twice (disconnected twice), and Melanie who found the 1 year extension I purchased and was in the process of refunding when I was disconnected again! I can write off 1 disconnection, possibly even 2 but not 7! I have to believe this is a tactic your reps are told to use. As, I left a callback number and no one has called back! DO NOT USE TRACFONE!
UPDATE: 08/02/23
I spoke to TracFone regarding BBB complaint ID **** on 08/02/23. The person I spoke to said their system updated and couldn't confirm any information regarding my account. Or why it was turned off on a non-applicable date of 07/29/23.When confronted with the fact that my phone had been on for two yrs and I wanted to know how since I hadn't purchased minutes (Because I've purchased only extensions that they claim not to be able to see) His only answer to every question I had was the system updated and does everything and he couldn't see it! Absolutely pathetic company! I am not satisfied! DO NOT USE TRACFONE!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROVIDER! Literally the only good thing I can say about Tracfone is that they were able to ship me a cellular telephone effectively. Notice I didn't say they shipped me a "working" cell phone, however. And that was just the first of several delights I had in dealing with this company over the past two-plus weeks.
In attempting to use online customer support to try and address my issue? I learned that, essentially, online customer support doesn't exist. An attempt to initiate a chat about my technical issue very quickly went into a circular hell between asking me for information about the phone (which they should have had on file, but didn't), offering me new services for the phone that didn't work in the first place, and/or asking for my name (despite it being necessary to initiate a customer service chat). Giving up on the autobots, I then called their customer service line - and then the REAL fun began.
A disclaimer here: I'm a former call center manager. As such, I never get aggravated with CSR's; in part because I know the job, and in part because more often than not a CSR is capable of only doing so much, whether by lack of training or company policies that restrict them. There are, however, some basic things which are universal. Or, at least, I thought they were prior to dealing with Tracfone:
1. Speak Coherent English. While I've dealt with CSR's from the Indian subcontinent for over a quarter century, prior to my Tracfone experience I've never, ever had an experience where I've had to ask *every* CSR I spoke with to repeat themselves, sometimes 4-5 times over, in order to understand what they're saying. I've no problem with accented English. I can't, however, parse incoherent English.
2. Be Empathetic, if not Chatty. Customer support calls are often made by people on their last nerve due to their predicament, and part of a CSR's job is "charm and disarm." It's de-escalation, and it's a good tool to have in your arsenal whether you're dealing with an irritated customer or not. Tracfone's people? Well, they don't have this skill. At all. In fact, 90% of the time, you'll probably be sitting there wondering if anyone's still listening - because after every sentence they utter? They mute themselves.
3. Case Documentation. This doesn't appear to exist at Tracfone, at all. I spoke with four different CSR's today, on the same call, being transferred from one to another. Not one of them documented any part of their interaction with me - something I know because I had to provide all four with *very* basic customer information that they *absolutely* should have had readily available. In my world, not doing proper case documentation flat-out got you fired. In fact, it'd get the person not doing it, *and* their immediate supervisor, fired. At Tracfone however? Meh.
4. You Don't Make a Pitch to a Customer Who Comes To You With an Issue. My call to resolve a technical support problem is NOT A SALES OPPORTUNITY. You'd be amazed at how many companies perceive it as one - but you'd probably not be amazed at how many customers drop you like a bad habit by seeing it as such.
5. If You Get Cut Off? Get Back To Them. At Once. Each of the four CSR's I dealt with had not one, not two, not three, but *four* different means of getting back to me in the event of a disconnected call. Sure enough, a disconnect occurred as a CSR was attempting a troubleshooting step. If I've taken the effort to reach out to you about a customer service issue and you disconnect me? I understand. Accidents happen. But when you don't reach back out to me afterward? You're telling me that my business doesn't mean anything to you. And I act accordingly.
Simply put, customer service is not Tracfone's thing. There's no financial savings or other logic you can conjure to justify buying a Tracfone product that will outweigh the NIGHTMARE that their customer service represents. Again... just for emphasis... STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROVIDER!
STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE. NO MATTER WHAT.
None.
