The whole process was easy, they shipped my books fast and almost every book was in really good shape. The only issue I had was with a little bending of the edges of some books, but they were more used than the others.
I received tracking information that two of the three books I had ordered from Thriftbooks were to arrive this Monday March 7th, 2022. They did not arrive. I then put in a call to USPS. They returned my phone call after doing a search for the books. The books were never handed off to them from OSM a shipper used by Thriftbooks. They said call Thriftbooks. I did and had a very unhelpful conversation with their customer service agent. Even though I explained the tracking information stated the books were to arrive by Monday March 7th and they had not. The Thriftbooks customer service agent response was the books have more time to arrive and that time has not expired yet. So the fact that no one knows where the books are, that is not an issue, just that the time limit has not expired. Wow, that was really helpful. To top it off Thriftbooks sent me a survey for my review of the call. I gave it the worst review possible. Apparently their system did not like that as it resent the same survey to me no less than eight times in a row. I guess they expected me to change my mind and give a glowing review. My answer will not change their customer service was very "Unhelpful"!
I won't invalidate anyone else's experience. Just came to share my two cents and some words of encouragement for Thriftbooks. I've been using Thriftbooks for a few years now. For the most part, a seamless experience. I received a book a few days ago with missing words in the print on more than one page of the book. (Most if not all of the books that I have received have been in great/pristine condition; I have not had an issue prior to this one.) I told them, they asked no questions--just sent a new one. Love Thriftbooks. Will never buy from anywhere else ever again as long as they keep it up.
I'm a regular customer buying books from this company has been a hit or miss. I purchased a Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and the book came in the condition as described. But I just received my package today it was Dianetics by L Ron Hubbard the book was not in the condition that was described as good this book actually is in poor condition I'm going to definitely have to just get a new copy from the Church of Scientology website.
After years of purchases and mostly satisfactory service, this company has deeply let me down with their blanket response to a missing shipment. I will never shop here again.
All my life books have brought me joy and knowledge! From stories, to cooking recipes, to healing of the physical body. Thriftbooks has brought me an added benefit... excellent books at very reasonable prices. These books come from different areas, and not all at the same time, but the books and prices are well worth it! I have recommended it to others.
The level of incompetence demonstrated by this company literally defies belief. I ordered The Sandman Vol. I, a 240 page graphic novel, and instead they sent me a 32 page preview of said graphic novel. No worries, I thought, it happens. So I contacted customer service and thought I had explained the issue and they proceeded to send my the exact same 32 page preview, again. I patiently tried to explain that they were sending me the wrong thing, but then they got all defensive and demanded photos of stickers on spines, which these pamphlets didn't have because they didn't even have enough spine to put a sticker on. My money is gone, they won't refund or credit it. I was forced to order the same thing from Ebay, but I still had to pay double what I should have. Just buy your books from someplace else. You're welcome.
Thriftbooks has so many out of print novels as well reprints of really old non. Fiction books. The reprints for example had "Homes of the New World" by Fredricka Bremer published in 1853. Some books show signs of age, but are still readable.
Reading some other reviews im not sure people realise this is a 2nd hand book store. I ordered 4 books for really good price, the condition I recieved them in was basically library quality, used and been sitting around for a bit but totally fine. I'm in Australia and was really easy to follow the tracking for each book to know they were coming. Very happy, very easy, great price, 2nd hand books
I purchased an e gift card as a gift. The money came out of my account and the recipient never received an email stating she had an e gift card. I reached out to customer service for a refund of my money and they are refusing to give it back stating once the gift is redeemed it cannot be refunded. The recipient never got it and now $50 is wasted. Do not waste your money with e gift cards they are not worth it.
I'm curious as to what ThriftBooks is really about. It seems that selling books is secondary to gathering as much personal information about you as they can. When you visit their site, you can be sure from that moment on, you will be bombarded with ads, not only from ThriftBooks, but other sellers as well. They claim they do not sell your personal information, and yet, you can scroll through their "terms", and read about their rights to sell, trade, or give away your personal information. They say you can block their ads, but by doing so you may prevent them from being able to process your orders-Huh? The only way you can stop the endless ads is to unsubscribe. It's too bad, because I really liked their site. Oh well, there are other good booksellers out there thankfully.
The first several orders I made with this company went great. However, the quality of the items I received took a sharp nosedive. It started with a copy of The Hobbit that was supposed to be in "very good" condition. When it arrived, the outside was stained by what looks like urine, and two pages were ripping out where the spine cracked. This item seriously looked like it had been used as a bathroom copy.
I purchased another book, only to have a different book show up. I got a refund, then reordered (very good condition) the book. The book showed up today, and when I flipped through the pages, an entire SECTION of pages fell out! On what planet is that very good condition? The sticker on the cover was also cheaper than what I paid for the book! It was dirty, dingy, and the dust jacket was torn.
Once the replacement for my replacement shows up, I will NEVER order from this site again.
It seems like Thriftbooks is operating with very little quality control, and aren't making sure their sellers adhere to a book grading system. Condition descriptions are general and vague, and do not often match up with the product.
I have nothing to complain. Low priced good condition books. Delivered as scheduled. What more can you expect for paying so less. Recommend people to buy from thrift books.
You'll receive 60% of the books you ordered. The other 40% will never be sent, and you won't even be notified. I found this out when I ordered about 10 books from my company's reading list. Placed the order about 9 months ago, and started reading as they arrived. Fast forward to today, when I'm rechecking our reading list and distinctly remembered ordering those books. I check my Thriftbooks order history and sure enough, 40% of those books are missing. They do something sneaky in their confirmation emails by only giving you order numbers, and item numbers; there's no reference to title or author. So that you really have to do some reconciliation.
They sell reprints of old books that are in the public domain. I read one from 1853 by Fredricka Bremer called "Homes of the New World". For example. Great selection of out of print books!
Ordered back in April, only ever received one email and, after waiting for a long time, admittedly forgot about it. Remembered the other day and thought it was weird that it's taken so many months to arrive, only to look into the tracking and see it had been "delivered" months ago when I was at home 24/7 on a COVID-related provincial lockdown. Contacted customer support and they said since it's been longer than 60 days, there's nothing they can do.
Not entirely convinced this website isn't meant for scamming people.
When I asked for assistance I was told they could not assist because it was 30 days after the order. Worst possible answer and they did not return my money. Very poor service.
All books arrive quickly, and either meet or exceed my expectations. I recommend highly. Also affordable.
Just dealing with the website is a nightmare.
The books may or may not arrive in specified condition.
The books may or may not arrive in a timely manner.
I love using Thriftbooks to purchase all the books I need for pleasure or specific study purposes. The company is honest about the condition of the books and gives options for which condition (fair, good, new) that you can choose from. The books also arrive in very good time and have always been a delight to receive! And best of all, the price is really good, which makes it easier for me to get more of the books I want or need. I highly recommend them to anyone needing good, affordable books that are of a great quality and sent with good service from the company.
Answer: It sounds like a question you need to ask them directly.
Answer: You should think twice before paying international postal rates and customs fees for used books.
Answer: When this happens, just tell them and they'll give you a refund. Books are sent via USPS, so good luck with a tracking number. Very occasionally they will lose a shipment, and this is not Thriftbooks' fault.
Answer: Library Binding is a term used for books that are in large print.
Answer: I donate my books to the library for their book sale
Answer: I ordered through the ThriftBooks website. They send me an order confirmation email. Then they send me shipping confirmation email with tracking. Shipping confirmation emails may be sent separately for each book if they come from different locations. If you keep track of the emails, you know exactly what the situation is for your order. I have ordered over 30 books, have check on the status often, and had no problems. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have email, but is that a possibility in this day and age? If you ordered by phone, I'm not sure why you didn't call them for the status.
Answer: They do not accept checks or money orders. You need to use credit, debit (cards), or PayPal.
