As with any online order there are always an issue here and there, which is expected but in my experience with Thriftybooks.com (which has been limited) I had absolutely no issues. The books came in a timely manner and in better condition then I expected. The cost for the books along with free shipping was excellent so I have no complaints. I sent an email to the company asking a question and the response was very quick! I watched the order as it traveled across the US to me and everything was smooth and quick. I would recommend purchasing from them to anyone and I will purchase again in the near future. Those who are purchasing from a used location need not expect perfect just a fair price, that being said, I did order the gently used book and paid a small amount more, but totally worth it, even the dust cover was in perfect shape! Saved me a considerable amount of money for the books I needed. Although you also need to watch who you are purchasing through because if it is Amazon you may not be purchasing through the actual company so check who the seller is.
Thank you Thriftybooks.com!
I have never received a book I wasn't happy with from Thriftbooks. I love that you can earn points for free books, the free shipping, the wishlist so you get an email when they have a book you're looking for. One of my favorite things about this store is that you can choose your book, meaning they tell you what they have, new, slightly used etc. all with reasonable pricing. Personally for certain books I enjoy writing in the margins, it's interesting to read someone else's views. If you are like me and enjoy reading with the actual book in hand, I promise one visit to this store and you'll be hooked!
I ordered a copy of poppy by Avi book #1 for my 4th grader. I specifically ordered book #1 and paid the extra fee for 2nd day shipping, due to her needing the book by the 27th of this month. Ordered it on the 20th and received the wrong book on yesterday the 24th. I immediately emailed to attempt to let them know about their error and to possibly get it resolved before Monday the 24th. Today just minutes ago I received an message stating that my message was blocked. This clearly shows that I was scammed and no one had any intention of contacting me, or correcting their mistake. I paid $19.67 for a used book, that has a good will price tag for $1.99 on it. I didn't have a problem with paying the $4.30 + 2nd day shipping for a used book, but I want what I ordered and paid for! Thanks for disappointing and scamming a 4th grader!
I love books, and Thriftbooks is a way to buy them cheaply. I paid for 3 books and received 2 of them together within 3 days, and the third took over a week (shipping said to expect anywhere between 5-12 business days). There are a lot of negative reviews that people have posted, and I don't understand why. Customer service has been helpful when I've had questions.
I took off one star only because their opinion of "good" condition books is apparently different than mine. The good condition book I bought did all of the pages and they weren't bent in any way (which is good), but there were notes all throughout the book, which would make me think the book is "acceptable". I am curious what their standard for "acceptable" is then?
This is a great place to order college textbooks. They are much cheaper than the bookstore, and the customer service at Thrift Books is excellent! I highly recommend using this site for any books.
I bought a "very good" book that wasn't described anywhere as being ex-library but that turned out to be the case upon delivery. The stickers couldn't be removed without tearing the cover off. Be wary of the book condition that ThriftBook gives; treat it as 1 - 2 grades inflated compared to other sellers. If a book is described as "very good", it's most likely only "good" or "acceptable".
Thrift books explained the software glitch, apologized and gave me a credit towards a future purchase. Bought more books since & am happy with price, quality and delivery.
Ordered a book that I wanted to arrive quickly, so paid for second day service. After 5 days and no book I called customer service and a cheerful person said, "oh, we had a problem and canceled your order." Poor service, poor communication and no book! What a way to run a business.
The worst experience I had buying online this book smells like rat and bad shape. It's like someone picked it up from the trash and send it to me. Please don't waist your money, I recommend to go to your local book store and just buy something there. My is going back in the trash.
Ordered an old Wii game from my childhood, the order receipt says game only, but what did I get, everything but the game… waiting on a response from customer service, 10/10 would not use them again.
The books that i purchased were described as 'good' condition. They were definitely not instead they were in very poor condition. Also the books stink really bad. Anyone is much better off buying books from consignment stores or even brand new.
I was a regular customer, purchasing several books and DVDs each month. I was very happy with thriftbooks, rarely having problems, which were always promptly resolved. However, in February of 2021 our family noticed that thriftbooks was openly promoting authors based solely upon the color of thier skin. We were appalled at the open and unabashed bigotry. When I wrote to voice my concerns, I was brushed off. We canceled our account. We simply cannot allow such hatred and bigotry to exist in a civilized society. We now exclusively purchase our books from local small town independently owned bookstores. Goodbye thriftbooks.
While ThriftBooks may look great because of low prices, I can't recommend them for CDs/DVDs/Blurays. I have ordered a few times and nearly everything has come to me damaged, mainly due to poor packaging. Thrift doesn't use protective envelopes like Amazon so discs are always loose. Sometimes pack 7+ DVDs in single envelope. Also, I've had a few orders with missing discs entirely.
While they will refund you without having to return the damaged product, as stated on their website, they DO NOT refund your shipping costs which is not stated.
After multiple damaged orders with Thrift pocketing the shipping, I will not go back to them. Too unreliable with what you will receive due to poor packaging.
I have ordered from this company several times.and have not had any problems. I have received exactly what I paid for. They let you know what condition each book is in. The prices of the books are more than reasonable and I will continue buy my books from them.
Over the past year, I've ordered my books from thriftbooks. They always come in the shape that I order them. I usually order like new, but, I have ordered them all the way down to good. Never had a problem with them. They always come in a timely manner. Thank you Thriftbooks. You save me lots of money.
I have placed several orders with this company and have always
Had the product sent to my current address which was set as
Default. My last order never came. When I checked on the status,
This company sent the order to my old address (an address that is
Over 2 years old). At the time of checkout review my address was
Set to my current address. When I contacted support and
Explained to them what happened and explained that in the
Review it read my current address but they sent it to my old one, I
Was pretty much told I was out of luck. They refused to either
Refund my money or resend the product to the correct address. I
Even checked with residents of old address but they never even
Received the product. So not only did this company send it to the
Wrong address in the first place but it was never delivered period.
I think this whole company is a scam. I haven't even sold as many copies of JOURNEY OF A TEETOTALING VIRGIN as Thriftbooks claims to have in stock. And they are undercutting my $14.95 price and claiming they are "used" and "collectible." My book is so new that only my friends have bought so far. From reading readers' comments, I think they are only claiming to have books and will never send anything unless they happen to locate a used copy somewhere. But take it from me, they do not have ANY of the books I've sold so far. This is a total scam. It has to be. And the fact that many people give their money and never receive a book back at all proves it. Amazon should bar them from advertising. Feel free to contact Amazon and say so!
So I ordered a book from ThriftBooks only to find out two weeks later while waiting that they cancel my order and said it was fraud are use the correct card correct address everything they pick and choose what books they sell to white customer think about it.
I ordered a hardcover book listed as such, I received a print on demand soft cover. Charged $40!
Almost two weeks ago I ordered the book, "As You Wish", from Amazon as a Father's Day gift. I received notice that the book wouldn't arrive in time for Father's Day (three weeks later.) I went to Thriftbooks, found a hardbound copy that was less expensive than the paperback at Amazon. Ordered it. It arrived in four days! The book is in great shape. It will be such a fun present. Now what am I going to do with the Amazon Paperback when it arrives, LOL! Thanks Thriftbooks!
They mailed me a moldy book. The book smelled like mold and had mold on the cover. I had to throw it away.
Answer: It sounds like a question you need to ask them directly.
Answer: You should think twice before paying international postal rates and customs fees for used books.
Answer: When this happens, just tell them and they'll give you a refund. Books are sent via USPS, so good luck with a tracking number. Very occasionally they will lose a shipment, and this is not Thriftbooks' fault.
Answer: Library Binding is a term used for books that are in large print.
Answer: I donate my books to the library for their book sale
Answer: I ordered through the ThriftBooks website. They send me an order confirmation email. Then they send me shipping confirmation email with tracking. Shipping confirmation emails may be sent separately for each book if they come from different locations. If you keep track of the emails, you know exactly what the situation is for your order. I have ordered over 30 books, have check on the status often, and had no problems. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have email, but is that a possibility in this day and age? If you ordered by phone, I'm not sure why you didn't call them for the status.
Answer: They do not accept checks or money orders. You need to use credit, debit (cards), or PayPal.
