My wife and I decided that we needed an emotional support dog for our son who has ADHD. Through extensive research we decided we wanted to get a Stafford Shire Bull Terrier. Our apartment complex normally doesn't allow dogs, but we spoke to our leasing office and they gave us permission as long as we have a letter from our sons doctor which we did. From the research and feedback we were given from some of our colleagues they would be the perfect fit for our home. On our application we informed the facilty that we have a documentation about our approval to have a dog, because we were interested in a Stafford named Chase. Someone named Lois then emailed my wife stating the application was being forwarded to the foster home for review. The foster mom, who was extremely pleasant informed us that Chase was with another family but she had an older Stafford named Layla. She is 3 years old and extremely well trained and super laid back. Sent us a picture and video of her and we after a long talk agreed that she was right fit for our family. We were very excited and looking forward to Layla being an addition to our home. We were told that Layla would have to be transported to New Jersey and agreed that our home would be a great fit for her. We made arrangements for her, noted what her diet was and my wife has been in constant contact with Layla's foster mom to make sure she has all of the information needed to make her transition smooth. We had fees that we paid and Laylas foster mom let her know that she taking care of her paperwork so there were no issues. My wife received a call from Lois notifying her of the pick up date and times for her arrival which was Sunday May 31st at 9am in Williamstown NJ. Lois then verified that we paid the adoption fee which she did send through text message. Lois was surprised that we were allowed to have a Stafford Shire. At 347pm Lois calls my wife back and informs her that she is "back peddling" on our application because someone she knew informed her that pets weren't allowed at our apartment complex in Central NJ, even though the facility is in Jacksonville Florida. My wife then informed her that we had all of the proper paperwork to forward to her that we did have permission to have a dog. Additionally we have other tenants that do have dogs because of different circumstances. She said it didn't matter that we had a letter from a doctor and my wife restated to her in order for us to have approval we had to have this letter. She then says she will refund the adoption fee and ends the call. My wife visibly upset and heartbroken tries to call back to reason with her but no answer. When she finally gets back in touch Lois she is extremely short with her even saying she doesn't look at the applications she just forwards them and doesn't look over anything until she is about to transfer them. Even insinuating that its the foster moms fault for not looking over the application. Lois decided that she is too busy and will speak to the foster mom and hangs up on my wife. All of this is very unfortunate, my wife has been caring for patients for over a decade as a Nurse and we have a loving home for Layla to thrive in. There was no reason to deny our already approved application after already being screened and the ability to care for Layla as good as anyone else. In addition she would be a great companion for our son. I find this behavior, rude and shortness unacceptable. I can clearly see that there are many dogs on the website that have a need for a good home. Why deny Layla that.
