Sold laptop on this site. The pay system Swappa uses is PayPal. PayPal refuses to transfer my funds to my bank. Swappa's reply was - "Swappa can't help you".
All they care about is getting their cut. After that, they will not help you get paid.

Many phones are sold locked and you will not see it when doing an IMEI search. Their canned response if a problem = contact PayPal or credit company. The locked phones issue widely prevails and Swappa ignores it. Don't buy or sell here.

Tip for consumers:
Seriously be super careful or run away. Swappa staff well aware. Someone needs to speak out

Horrible! BEWARE! I went to purchase a phone on Swappa from a seller named pdx cellular. They took my money from my card then said they don't accept my payment method. I reported the issue to swappa. They gave me a hard time saying I couldn't show them my emails from card but i have to show them proof by logging in my account. They said the payment is pending and it'll come back on my card in a few days. Its been a week and they still haven't released my money. Swappa or the seller doesn't list phone numbers to contact either on of them. You can only reach Swappa threw email. I can prove all of this threw the emails back in forth between me and Swappa. DONT USE THIS SITE!

Hello, SiteJabber community,

I find myself compelled to share a frustrating experience with SWAPPA, an online marketplace that I once trusted for purchasing electronics. This ordeal has left me feeling disregarded and compelled me to question the integrity and customer service of SWAPPA.

My journey began when my original SWAPPA account was abruptly closed without any clear justification. Seeking to resolve this issue and continue my activities, I created a new account, linked it to my PayPal (which is verified), and resumed browsing phones, contemplating my next purchase. However, before I could make any purchase, SWAPPA inexplicably closed my new account as well, leaving a terse message: "Your account is inactive."

In an attempt to understand the reason behind these closures and seek a resolution, I reached out to SWAPPA multiple times through emails and even tried to contact them via Instagram. My efforts were met with silence; not a single response was received, nor did they acknowledge my attempts to communicate. This lack of response raises significant concerns about what would have happened if I had placed an order and my account was closed in a similar fashion. Would I have been left out in the cold, with no recourse or way to receive the product I paid for?

This experience has been eye-opening and deeply disappointing. A platform that operates in the realm of online sales must uphold a standard of communication and respect towards its users. The complete disregard for customer service and the opaque nature of the account management process at SWAPPA is alarming.

I'm sharing this story as a caution to others who might consider using SWAPPA for their electronics purchases. It's crucial to be aware of the potential issues you might face, including unjust account closures and a startling lack of communication from the company. A marketplace that fails to engage with and respect its customers raises serious questions about its reliability and trustworthiness.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I hope it serves as a warning and contributes to a broader conversation about consumer rights and the accountability of online marketplaces.

There was an error on their site and I immediately told them I didn't place an order. They ignored the message, and ended up shipping me an item for hundreds of dollars. This is already really poor execution, but then they wouldn't even send me a shipping label to send it back. You'll see a case in BBB about this. They're just washing their hands of it. Hard to believe this kind of thing goes on in America these days. Buy from somewhere else, frankly anywhere else.

Zero communication from the 3rd party seller for 72 hours, where finally a shipping label was created but still never shipped. Rather than the seller finally communicating a shipping date, they retaliated against a Paypal claim and had my account banned. Facebook/eBay/Reddit/Back Market/Gazelle are all better options. Save yourself the headache as Swappa's support seems to be run by teenagers.

I purchased a Iphone 14 Pro Max which cost me $900+ from a month ago and the seller shipped the item but it never arrived to my address. I reported it to Swappa to resolve this matter but they choose to not hold the seller accountable, I went to USPS and they confirmed the item was not shipped properly from the seller and the seller never used a label but written on the package instead.

I went ahead and opened a dispute against the seller and I communicated to swappa and they stop responding to me but once the seller submits a message they would respond. Trust and believe I would never spend a dollar on this $#*! of a company again.

I rather purchase from reputable businesses even if it cost more to get my item purchased.

I strongly recommend to not use this company but if you choose so, remember you have been warned!

I tried to sell an iPAD on Swappa. It was in excellent condition, kept in a case, with a tempered screen protector and sold with all accessories. They would not allow me to post it. The said there might be a chip on it. I sent them at least 12 photos and responded to every request they had. They stopped responding altogether and didn't post the iPAD. Huge waste of time to use that site plus they ask to link to your PayPal account. AVOID IT.

I will never use Swappa.
They charge their service fee (3% for both of sellers and buyers), which makes sense.
But they subtract "sales tax" calculated based on "buyer's" address.

I was a seller in Oregon (no sales tax), sold an item to buyer in Florida (sales tax is 6%).
The buyer paid sales tax as his usual. But they said that can't prove Swappa pays sales tax to FL state.

I wonder it went to their pocket...

I bought a iPhone 11 Pro from celltrade on Swappa. Long story short I received a semi- functioning phone, that was advertised as in mint condition. I immediately reported the problem to Swappa and the seller Celltrade. They requested I send phone back,Unfortunately being a busy professional I had to keep the phone or I could not function at work. A better solution would have been for the seller to send me a replacement phone first and then I could have sent them the flawed phone back. But no they don't care about the buyer. Now I'm stuck with a phone that continuously goes to black screen of death. Swappa makes money of people like me so they will side with the seller. Please, whatever you do, avoid both Swappa and Celltrade. You will get ripped off.

So i had purchased a phone through a seller on swappa...

I get the phone and try to activate it and my carrier says it's stolen!... the carrier of the phone was at&t and my carrier is cricket. So it should work!

The seller admits in the comments that the phone has been locked out by at&t and can't be activated! But instead of shipping me a phone right away they're waiting for me to send the STOLEN! Phone back!

I contacted Rob from swappa and he acted like he could care less! So not only do they not protect the buyer but they don't care if the crap is stolen!

NEVER AGAIN!

I have used them 2 times. On both occasions I received a defective phone that was advertised in good condition and in all working order. This last time I requested that a comparable phone be sent out to me before I return the one I have with the busted camera. This way I wouldn't have to go without a phone throughout the process. The seller (savegadget) said no. I wish they would increase their quality testing on these phones, or at the very least, take care of the customer when they send out junk. Ended up giving back market.com my business. Won't be back.

This is a scam website DONT buy anything from Swappa. I made a payment for an iPhone 11 immediately after I did so my account was deactivated I didn't receive the tracking number, or information on the item. The seller (Recell.io) was unresponsive, I reached out to *******@swappa.com email and they said the account was deactivated due to violation of the terms and conditions. They then said I should receive a refund from the seller, I still haven't received this refund. Learn from me, they deactivated the reviews on Google so you don't see their actual motives. This site has been reported multiple times. Don't fall for this.

Do not recommend
I bought an ipad from Sellword LLC
One of their top sellers and the ipad shut down after only 20 minutes
I fully charged it and kept trying it kept dying the seller agreed to send me a return label but i still has to drive to usps to drop it off then i sent it back and i left the seller a thumbs down feedback the sellers asked me to change it "asap"
And i refused because it was my honest feedback so he turned soar and hostile he said he won't refund me and it could take up to a month i aSksd for swappa staff help and all they did was take their top sellers side so all swappa can do is to recommend that i open a paypal
Case because swappa although had a rule of sellers not selling battery defective items they still do and obviously they do not uphold their standards or do anything to help so now after two weeks i am still waiting for paypal to step on and help if it wasn't for paypal they would steal my money
Very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone

I've spent $3000+ on this website I bought a cheap xbox for like $150 and a bunch of MacBooks yet swappa deleted my account and claims that I charged back on the xbox which did not happen I told them I would provide my bank statements showing I had paid in full for the xbox. They stopped responding. I don't know where they got their information from but it wasn't accurate and its odd they can run a business that way. Not sure why I would charge back a $150 xbox when I spend thousands of dollars on high end computers it makes absolutely 0 sense.

Samsung Z Flip 5G Refurbished Phone

I purchased a Samsung Z Flip 5G phone over a year ago from a seller from Tuscon, Arizona.
Although the phone came in a bright shiny new box and cellophane wrap around the hone and phone screen and was supposed to be new.
This phone has crapped out after about a year with a big black blob on the touch screen which makes the phone not usable.
Repairs to the phone are the same price as buying a new one.
Furthermore, since this is a US product, where I live in Canada, Samsung Canada will not cover the phone's warranty I would have to have the warranty covered in USA.
However, this refurbished phone which i bought on Swappa advertised as new became inoperable one month after the warranty had expired.
If you live in Canada I would avoid this Swappa website and buy in Canada.
All Swappa sells is refurbished junk posed as brand new which will eventually break down and you will lose your money.
Buyer beware! Avoid this Swappa Website Canada!

Tip for consumers:
Avoid this website. They sell refurbished phones as new.

I was a user of swappa for about three years, there were good and bad experiences. Unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good in my case. Over 1 year ago I had a falling out with a seller who shipped my phone to the wrong address ( I haven't been compensated for that $270 phone to this day) and because of that falling out my account was banned. I created an account about a week later and I was allowed to use swappa for over a year without issues until about one month ago when a seller provided a nonexistent tracking number for me and eventually went unresponsive. I brought up the issue to Swappa professionally without any hostility of any sort and they responded to me and told me to check with the seller again and if he doesn't respond then my only option would be to file a paypal claim. In other words they weren't taking any responsibility for what the seller did to me. When I returned to check on the progress of my sale I realized that they banned my new account and the account I had that was linked to my paypal account. When I asked what caused my accounts to be banned they said it was because of the issue I had with the other seller over a year ago. I had 5 active sales at the time and when I asked mr. "Lucas F" through Email how can I access the tracking numbers for my active sales my emails were ignored. The level of unprofessionalism and pettiness displayed the this company and their staff is beyond me. I Now use Ebay and I must say that they are a much more professional company than swappa and they actually care about their customers. If you value your hard earned money then stay away from this company.

Isaiah, we are always available to help. In fact, our support team is available 24/7/365 and normally responds within a few hours to answer any questions. You can email them at help@swappa.com. As we may have already told you, the best way to speed up the process is by calling PayPal and they can help you get a refund, typically much faster than in 30 days.

I think swappa works great if you get a good phone, but if it's defective as mine was be prepared for a huge hassle. After months of trying to get the seller to respond swappa told me that I had to dispute it through PayPal, who at first denied it because the seller responded (after months of not responding to me). After appealing the dispute and dealing with paypal back-and-forth (also not a good experience) I was finally able to get a return address to mail the phone back to get my money back - which I'd been trying to do for months at that point. And even though swappa's policy says that I had to get insurance and ship it back and that the seller will reimburse me, he never did. Huge hassle, lots of time, and out the shipping and insurance money. Ebay has much much better support for their buyers. For swappa, buyer be very beware.

Mostly good experience from Swappa until now. Purchased a phone by mistake and immediately asked the seller to cancel. Seller agrees to cancel and refund the purchase. An hour later there is a conversation between seller and swappa about the refund. Seller notes that he will refund minus a restocking fee ($80 on a 430 phone). Seller relists phone and sells immediately. I point out to Swappa that the seller did not ship the phone and had initially agreed to cancel and issue refund. And, had I known he was going to charge the "restocking fee", I would have told seller to just ship the phone. I even sent an email to a manager at Swappa. No Help. Payal made the seller refund the amount immediately. This is predatory behavior by the seller and the Swappa doesn't seem to care. Thankfully, paypal has things set in place to protect the buyer from this behavior.

List a phone. Collect the money and of the go shopping. Below is a picture of a "Mint" Iphone sent to me after I paid $200 for it. The seller stole my money and ripped off the shipper collecting insurance for a phone already broken when he put it in the box. Jon H. Is his name on the site. The Swappa people told me to go blow!

Mark, as you've stated in your communication with us, you've used Swappa several times before without issues. We review every listing to help ensure products are working and they are accurately described. In rare cases, devices are sold in a condition that is different than how they were described - this is why we partner with PayPal, so you are able to get your money back. Our support team is available to guide you through that process. We try to make this process clear to all users before they buy or sell a device. If you have additional questions, email our support team help@swappa.com.

Please do not waste your time by interacting with Swappa customer service agents. Unfortunately I had to deal with a person named Patrick and he was suggesting me the ratings that I need to give to a seller when I have issues with my phone. I followed their review guideline but he was asking me to give a 3 stars to the seller. I had given 2 stars. Very rude behavior. Please never buy from here.

Hi Sam,

Like our support team mentioned, we provide guidelines on how to rate sellers - you can find them here: https://swappa.com/faq/answer/feedback_star_rating_guidelines. Your rating did not follow our guidelines, which was why we asked you to adjust your review. We are happy to assist with any questions or feedback you have - feel free to email us at help@swappa.com

A seller sold me a STOLEN or LOCKED phone EASILY VERIFIABLE by Swappa staff. Swappa refused to consider that the item was, in fact, unusable, and insisted I provide impossible to obtain proof (a printed document from Verizon themselves claiming the phone was unusable).

I gave the IMEI number, suggested giving Verizon a call or going online to their website to effortlessly check the IMEI number to confirm my legitimate complaint. They REFUSED.

You sold stolen/misrepresented goods, asked the buyer to jump through hoops, and refused to make the smallest of efforts to resolve the issue.

I can only assume the staff at Swappa want to create a space where buyers and sellers just don't want to deal with the headache and Swappa can continue collecting their fees.

Also, because I happened to use this POS site, I'm out 10 dollars to return this item to a thief and liar? If I never knew about Swappa, I would be 10 dollars richer. Unbelievable.

Never use this site. It's only a matter of time until you suffer as I did.

Tip for consumers:
Never use this site. Go somewhere reputable with an ethical customer service team.

Sitejabber for Business

Gain trust and grow your business with customer reviews.

From the business

The place to buy and sell newish tech. Safety, simplicity and staff-approved listing make Swappa the better way to buy and sell used phones, tablets, laptops, video games, home tech and more.

Business History

Swappa was founded in 2010 by Ben Edwards, a long-time software and mobile developer.

The inspiration for Swappa sparked when Ben had trouble finding a good source for test devices for Android development projects. Turning to eBay and Craigslist proved perilous and time-wasting for buying mobile phones. Blacklisted phones, junk devices, inefficient communication, and downright fraud plagued the antiquated marketplaces.

Knowing there had to be a better way, Swappa began as a side-project to build a better marketplace for buying and selling quality mobile devices. Safety, simplicity, low fees, and the "human factor" made Swappa different then and still do to this day.

From the first Swappa sale (a Motorola Droid) to millions of dollars per month in commerce, Swappa has grown to be the ultimate used tech marketplace. We enjoy creating technology that makes it easy for people to directly sell devices to other consumers and everything we do revolves around this concept.
