I have purchased several things on Swappa and sold 1 item. I have had nothing but excellent experiences with both the buys and the sale. I admittedly am careful checking the previous feedback after being an Ebay user for over 10 years, and have not been disappointed yet. I have even compared the prices of the things I was interested on Ebay and have not found better deals anywhere than I have here on Swappa. I highly recommend this avenue for buying or selling used cell phones/tablets.
Swappa has a great review process that is well supported for the first time user with video and written instructions. It is quite intuitive and works very well. The rating process of the phones with established criteria is really helpful. Knowing that someone is looking over your shoulder and accompanying you is also reassuring.
Communication with would be buyers and sellers worked very well. And PayPal added the necessary financial security for the transactions to be secure. I have now bought a phone (I am very happy with) and sold my old phone in four days and it worked very well both times. I liked especially well that once you set a price you can modify it in response to buyers practically instantly.
I will use it again and recommend the site for selling for buying your smartphone.
This was my second time buying a used phone in mint condition on Swappa. Both times I chose individuals selling their barely used phones for personal reasons rather than resellers who wouldn't know the history of the phone. Both times the phones were nearly new, and although an unscrupulous seller could have exaggerated things, these individuals were honest. I got great phones at good prices, and a pleasant interaction as well.
When it comes to guarantees, Paypal is the weak point. Unlike a credit card company that will strongly back the customer in a legitimate dispute, Paypal is likely to play games and hang onto your money (found this out with a fraudulent seller on eBay.). So I'm sorry to hear of the people with bad experiences, but I'll keep going with Swappa.
Purchased a cell phone and was charged $10 by swappa upfront. Found that interesting being charged to purchase something second hand. Old fashioned call me, but shouldn't the seller be charged, not buyer? Smooth transaction nonetheless.
I've now bought two devices using Swappa. I couldn't imagine going any place else. I know there might still be a way to cheat the system, but Swappa gives the impression, and feeling, that it is better at managing expensive transactions.
UX was incredible. Simple to use, easy to nav and sign up for. An overall feeling of safety and trustworthiness based on swappa staff members approving listings, and staying behind the scenes and not disturbing the transaction, but enhancing the supervisory feeling. A community of well meaning and behaving citizens looking for an alternative to getting ripped off, freedom of choice, and wanting this to be a success. Rather than just relying on user ratings of seller and buyer as some other sites do, swappa has that extra "big buddy" presence with their staff monitoring even private convos and making sure "everyone plays nice". Site came highly recommended by a top industry insider in the tech stratosphere. Loved my first experience here. Def gives ebay, amazon, newegg and best buy a run for their money.
I'm a big promoter of this service. Bought my last half dozen phones from here. I love the opportunity to get 18 month old technology in perfect condition so affordably. I'll never buy from the provider again...
I was lucky to hear about Swappa. Since then, I've bought many iPhones, most brand new in the box with full Apple warranty's. It's all safe, not at all sketchy like Craigslist or Letgo. No worries when you go through Swappa.
I buy mint condition iPhones from Swappa when it's time. I buy from highly rated users with great reviews. I'm seeing recent one-start reviews and they don't make sense to me. It's almost like buying from eBay. There are precautions you take and possible inconveniences involved.
Typically, I wear my phones out pretty fast from the jobs that I do. I tend to get tired of replacing cracked screens and malfunctioning home buttons. I also like the idea of spending several hundred dollars less for a phone that is "like new".
My experience with Swappa to date has been honest, easy, fast and friendly. I would definitely recommend using their site!
Seller responds to any questions in a timely matter. Great deals on the newest smartphones and You can even work out a reasonable price for them. When will people stop getting rob for paying ridiculous prices for devices at eBay & Amazon and just use swappa.
I picked up two phones in conditions as described. Swappa checks ESN before items are put up for sale (which was not the case with one of my eBay phones). Price was also a bit cheaper than ebay auction deals for similar Droid Mini & Galaxy S4 without the wait or bidding hassle. Will use Swappa again! You can make the seller an offer on swappa too.
I bought 2 phone's via swappa and the only thing they did was send the seller my email I had sent them. It was PayPal that actually got my money back. I understand 1 phone but 2 come on. I'll never use Swappa again and buyer beware. How do they really check that these device's are decent... worst experience ever... but if your needing to dump a crappie device this is an excellent site.
I have purchased multiple phones (5 or 6) over the past ten years. Swappa stepped in once when I had an issue over the unlocked phone not being quite fully unlocked; I appreciated their quick response to my request for assistance! Other than that incidence (which was quickly resolved), my purchases have been received as advertised. I appreciate Swappa's high standards for tech resale and have always felt like my devices ranked alongside their posted standards protocols (mint, good, etc.). I've purchased 2 iPhones and at least 3 androids (LGs and Samsungs)... all sales were more than satisfactory! I will continue to go to Swappa for needed tech.
Swappa has some strict requirements on the quality of the phones they allow to be sold through their site (i. E. no water damage, clean ESN, fully functioning etc). This made me feel more secure using them as opposed to eBay. I got a phone cheaper than I would have on eBay in mint condition and it was a great experience.
So much easier than any other 2nd hand electronics website, including ebay. Every device is closely examined by the operators to ensure quality through the pictures, no listing with a cracked screen or severe damage will become live. Also they check to ensure that if there is a serial/imei/etc that it is not a stolen device or unusable. Takes the guess work out of the buyers hands. I am an avid buyer and seller on ebay with over 100+ feedback and I chose Swappa to purchase my new cell phone! Need I say more?
Before I found this site I almost pulled the trigger on some private sales but kept thinking I dont know everything to look for to keep from getting ripped off." Thank goodness swappa does. They earn their cut verifying listings and putting buyers minds at ease. I almost made a sure mistake buying new from my carrier. As if monthly installments on full retail arent enough, sales tax and an upgrade fee to boot? I dont think Ill ever consider that route again now that I know swappa. They arent paying me for saying this- Im just paying them back for being awesome.
Needed same model phone as original which was hosed in a software update. That on an unrooted unrommed device running stock OS. Located same, of course, in used condition.
Communication and transaction were transparent. Sale concluded smoothly. Shipping was anxiety provoking by Priority mail. This was due to the the postal service not scanning or logging the progress of the shipment in an ongoing manner.
This of all my concerns weighed most. I stated definitively that the Swappa managers should hold to shipping by the most reliable carrier with regular tracking updates. This leaves certain services behind.
While it is impossible to avoid fraudsters online, Swappa does a great job of prevention through seller and purchaser identity validation. I've sold two MacBooks, two phones and an iPad on the website over the last two years. Each time they have sold at a fair price within 48 hours. While I don't have any experience purchasing anything, I highly recommend this site for selling tech.
Thanks for using Swappa!
I bought a phone and was informed 10 months later it was stolen. Seller has sold over 4,000 units. Phone worked and then ithe was blacklisted. Well outside of paypal coverage bing from this site is no different than Craigslist or ebay. They claim they are different so not tue. Buy form the store these guys are crooks.
Every device listed on Swappa is blacklist checked to ensure stolen devices aren't sold. We're the only marketplace that does this. The device you received wasn't stolen, rather it was mistakenly blocked 10 months later as you described.
Situations like this are so rare that we know exactly which sale you are referring to even though your name here doesn't match your name on Swappa. Looking at the sale, the seller who sold you the device has been communicating with you regarding the issue and trying to help resolve this with the carrier. It looks like you have filed complaints with Cricket and AT&T regarding this as well. We hope those efforts are successful in resolving the issue.
I could shop with ease knowing the phones were quality and I would get reliable service. Phones came according to what companies offered. I suggested that Swappa make some things more intuitive, such as adding an address for paypal companies, even though I had already done so and there was no indication that I needed to do it, except that my item hadn't shipped. I made a recommendation, but otherwise it's been a good experience.

Answer: Hi Alfred, Swappa requires all users to provide the ESN number for each device when creating a listing as a verification step. For more questions, please email our support team - help@swappa.com Thanks!
Answer: Very safe, I've bought and sold over 40 phones using Swappa and have only had one problem... When that happened both Swappa and PayPal had my back.
Answer: Yes, you should remove and keep your SIM card when you sell your used phone. SIM cards are tied to your account, so are not transferable. More information and why in our FAQ: https://swappa.com/faq/sell/sim_card_included
Answer: Because they are scammers and a holes. They can't be bothered with you. Awful site. Use eBay instead.
Answer: Swappa guarantees it which goes above and beyond paypal. They are running IMEI checks and they do a great job. It's on you when you receive your phone to go through the phone check list to make sure it's good, checking cameras, microphones wfi, bluetooth, water damage check, things like that. Its really worry free buying.
Answer: Contact Swappa support. If an item is not as described by seller, the buyer is entitle to a refund.
Answer: Most sellers don't ship to African countries. This is because they include a reasonable fee on their prices to cover for shipping in the US, I guess shipping to Africa would come at a higher cost and they seem to be avoiding that for whatever reason. However, you can research and register for a freight forwarding company and have your orders shipped to them. In turn, these companies will forward your order to you when they receive it. As I pointed out before, this is something you have to read about and carefully consider. Hope that helps.
Swappa has a rating of 3.6 stars from 3,176 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Swappa most frequently mention great experience, new phone and mint condition. Swappa ranks 5th among Marketplace sites.
