“A Gold-Coated Disappointment”

Brian B.
1/20/23

I will start by saying, who this company can benefit. If you absolutely do not have a single clue on where to begin, and you need direct guidance and can't find a better deal elsewhere, you may find benefit from this company (at a steep price). Most people who have already minimally gotten their feet wet, or have the drive to focus on self-learning using free/cheaper resource, I would highly recommend that over enrolling in their programs. I was somebody who already had a sense of the business, had done a couple of odd jobs off pay to play websites, and had setup my own studio, but felt a little lost and discouraged. Admittedly, I should have had thicker skin because I was well on track on my own, but I decided I wanted to seek help. I got referred to this program, and decided to try the trial video session they offer. They begin their setup by offering a 1 on 1 session after that first video to sort of "audition" to have the privilege of paying to get into their programs. They attempt to persuade you by telling you that only "x" amount of people get into the program, which I'm sure is true because most people don't buy into it, but I promise you they just tell everyone, "we think you have what it takes you should enroll." The price is incredibly steep for what you are getting, but at the bare minimum they offer you decent financing plans without too much interest. Coaching: This I believe is their strongest area out of what they offer, but that is not saying a whole lot. I can't speak for the other coaches, but I was paired with Tim Powers, who I think is a fantastic coach in a bad program. While I think he offered me the best he could based on the curriculum that was provided, he was incredibly limited due to how rudimentary the subjects were. Despite how simple the coaching sessions are, I feel that they can still be valuable as to refresh and build on muscle, but you can seek that outside of this program for infinitely less money and find more advanced/focused sessions for what you are looking for. Demo: The producer I was with was pleasant and good to work with, and the studio they sent me to was the same (the studio is not affiliated with such a voice). The problem with the demo process, was the scripts that are provided. You as the individual in the program do not work with the writers in anyway other than providing a list of specific things that you can relate to/like, and then they send you the scripts. As you can imagine, they feel very detached and is if they were written as generically as possible, and despite being about things you may like, you will more than likely feel no connection to the words on the screen. That, in conjunction with at least 3-4 typos and grammatical errors which is a blatant mark of disregard, left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth by the end of that process. Marketing Coaching: This was by far the least useful part of the program. The lessons are geared towards people who have absolutely no experience or business sense whatsoever. The sessions are also in a zoom call with plenty of other people, so you do not even get that direct 1 on 1 that could allow you to get a more tailored experience. In addition to all of that, we began the sessions with one instructor for about 3 sessions (the seminars were once every other week so this totaled to about 6 weeks), and then they had an emergency and could no longer continue. After a nearly two month hiatus, they began us with a new instructor, but they had to start over from the beginning. In short, you will experience the most drawn out lectures over a long period of time, and in the end, you will have more than likely come out with nothing. Tech Support: They have two sessions they offer for you to speak to a technical professional in order to setup your home studio. The individual who I worked with was very adept and responsive, however, we quickly determined that my studio was setup to professional standards, and I had no use for the rest of the session(s). Again, this was all done with my own minimal research using free resources. The (vice? I can't remember his formal title) President of Experience: After I had pretty much concluded everything I had paid for, I had determined that I was nearly entirely unsatisfied, and wanted to discuss this with the President of Experience. I had described everything that I have written here in greater detail, and was hoping for a partial refund, since I had at least gained a demo, and appreciated/used the coaching sessions. He himself had explained that, the marketing program is for beginners with no experience, and I just sat there in disbelief wishing there was more clarity in all of their descriptions of the program. Despite everything being very cordial, I was then given an analogy of having "bought a car from a dealer, taken it out and used it, and then asking for my money back". In which, should I have actually used the metaphorical car, that would make sense, but given that I have done absolutely nothing with any of the things I've "gained" from the company, I would have thought it was more me sitting inside of the car for a while, but never having taken it out of the lot. Regardless, I wasn't going to dig in, and he had instead offered me a free (I think it was this number) 12 month subscription to their VO Pro membership, in addition to the three months I already had from the program I enrolled in. He had promised that it's an invaluable resource for people who have experience and want to dive deep and be connected. I decided not to waste anymore time and accept the offer. VO Pro Membership: Not a whole lot to say, as I was anticipating little from it and was met at my expectations. You are given access to a facebook group where other members who paid, and people working at such a voice discuss things. But other than the occasional "news" it's people asking generic questions usually similar to the last and is not worth checking out. You are given access to special seminars as well that are held regularly, and I attended two only to quickly decide that it was not worth the hour (the sessions are not completely bad like the marketing, but you will find seldom crucial information within them, and it is a long time commitment). The icing on the cake was at some point I was sending emails making sure that I would get the additional free (12) months I was promised, and the customer support individual who I was working with attempted to CC the President of Experience, but I never got a response back (I believe after two emails). As of me writing this review, I received an email saying that my VO Pro Trial was expiring, and I would be billed after it automatically renews. There isn't an easy button to even cancel it, you have to send a direct email to someone. I let them know that I was promised an additional trial as compensation just in case they remembered, but still requested the service to be cancelled. Again, even if you are absolutely new to the industry, do your research and try to find cheaper resources if you don't find benefit from free ones. This company is absolutely not worth your time and money. The only thing preventing this from being a 1/5 is some of the staff were great to work with.

As I explore how I might become a part of this exciting industry, Brian presented an informative and entertaining overview. I appreciated the low cost to watch the presentation. The well-laid out, step-by-step plan abated my anxiety and encouraged me. Also, the offer to have a voice assessment by a working VO professional is awesome. Great initial SuchaVoice experience!

So far, Such A Voice hasn't produced any lasting results. I worked with a representative a couple times, but when I had to wait to proceed further, due to a reduction of work hours, we agreed that we'd talk again when the time was right. However, after informing Such A Voice I was ready to commit to the program, no one has given me the time of day for a week. Are they too busy to talk to me? Time will tell!.

Update: After 2 weeks of texts and emails, with no response, someone finally called me.

Your interface was too busy and unnecessisarily complicated. (I don't have my specs on. I hope the typos are enjoyable)
I signed up for April 5 The time I chose was 8pm PDT. I then was supposed to enter my info again to confirm my reservation, way odd, and there was an 8:30 class but no 8n.'. Check the things match.
I hope this helps.

I had learned about Such A Voice through Camden County College Continuing Education Program. I sent an email stating I was interested in learning about the course Introduction to Voice Over. In addition, their email address was included and I went on the website and signed up for webinar class. The process was easy. Also, watched some videos and heard some testimonies from clients that shared their experience while being a student and receiving mentoring that helped them to obtain success needed this the industry.

The webinar didn't offer me any extra knowledge I already know based on YouTube and the internet in general. It mentioned a course which is way too expensive with no guarantee of anything at the end of it, career-wise. This was a sales pitch only I think and I felt the offer of two way interaction was not a real one, offering offline 5 minute one to one which never happened even after I did a review as requested.
