Shill Bidding?
February 22, 2019

I have been purchasing Storage lockers since 1998. Mainly in California but now in PA. I was bidding on a unit and at the last 2 minutes it went back and forth an additional $1,200, and I didn't win it. 3 days later I was out of state and I got a phone call asking if I wanted the unit for my last bid because the high bidder's Credit card didn't work and they could not get a hold of him. And since I did actually bid that amount I told them sure. They charged my card and I bought the unit. Then I realized that the high bidder bidded me up to that amount and his bids should have been completely wiped out and my bid should have stood. So I paid an additional $1,200. So I chalked it as my fault. And let it go. Have to suck it up. Has this happened to anyone? So then I saw another auction come up at the same facility and looks like the same stuff, same boxes. Called the facility and found out it is the same guy. So the bid was up to over $500. I added to my watch list. I checked the next day and it completely disappeared. Called and was a mistake in the newspaper advertisement. So I kept checking the site and checked yesterday and it was not up. This morning i come in and it was on there for the same exact money and number of bids. So then it just brought the entire auction company back into question. False bids? Shill Bidding? Has anyone got a phone call later that high bidder could not pay? #StorageAuctions #Storagetreasures #Storage #Auctions I got a call from a District Attorney yesterday and told me they were investigating an Auction house for being accused of Shill bidding, raising prices up, and noticed that I was a victim on a particular auction that I bidded on and won some items. I told him I new it was happening but could never prove it. We as buyers trying to make a living just have to be as vigilant as we can to protect us and lower our risks as much as possible. One way, I told them they should copy lockerfox.com They show the user IDs of the bidder, and if a DA wants to investigate they can follow the user IDs and registrations. He made me aware that this has become a nationwide issue and many District Attorney's from various states are cracking down on Online Auctions and Storage Auctions. He asked for a list of the ones I used and of course I told them what I thought and by whom!

Wrong measurements on the unit and unsafe to go in due to dust, insects and spiders webs.
February 24, 2018

I won an auction and went ahead to the storage one hour away from home. I went in my pick up truck and my son with his truck. The pictures on the auction page look very good and I was excited. I met the clerk at the storage which seems very pleasant. Everything was working good. The first red flag was when he mentioned that there was a mistake on the unit measurements and was not the one reflecting on the invoice or as advertised by Storage Treasures.
He apologized for that inacuracy which I found very odd. However, I wanted to see the storage unit I won. Before I went to check the unit, the clerk advised me that the tamper was already opened and the unit was opened with no lock which I found also strange since they are supossed to open the unit on front of you and not ahead. Once I got to the unit, I discover the entire unit covered in dust, roaches, spider webs and insects, this unit look like was abandoned for decades, there was trash everywhere and more dust and trash including broken glass everywhere.
Regardless of the money I paid for the unit, the fee to Storage Treasures and the cleaning deposit, I didnt care to lose all of that money and decided to call the clerk of the storage to let him know that I will not continue removing stuff due to my health was compromising by staying in there under those conditions. I told him that he can keep the cleaning deposit. As soon as I finish talking to him, I called Storage Treasures to let them know of my desision and the representative attending my call informed me that the clerk of the storage called them a minute ago to let them know about my desision. I found out that they banned me from their website by trying to log in and showing my account locked.( this happened in less than 2 minutes) without even listening to my complain. The representative at Storage Treasures was so defensive and insisting that I have to remove everything from the storage. I was explaining to her about the disgusting conditions that I found inside of this unit, regardless of what I said, she told me that she is sorry but I am banned from them. She insisted again that if I don't want to be banned I need to pick evetything from the unit and clean it. I opted to be banned due to the conditions of this unit and it was compromising my health. I also mentioned to her that if the unit is full of dust and insects, it is the storage responsibility to let the bidders know. I certainly believe there should be some regulations that protect the well being of the bidders and advice for any irregularity like pest and other hazards that can harm us. For me they seems to care less. I am banned from Storage Treasures and very dissapointed by their customer service.
