Absurdly incompetent customer service staff
July 31, 2024

Regretfully purchased a Home depot protection plan on an LG fridge, which is apparently kept through Allstate Protection Plans. The fridge compressor failed under ext. Warranty, All state deemed it not worth fixing/replacing, and offered to issue a refund cheque for the amount of the fridge worth roughly $1540. Said it would take up to 10 business days for processing which is fine and standard. Then 3 weeks later we had to call back asking where this cheque was, they said "oh we emailed you that we couldn't read your receipt, and that we need you to re-send a receipt" (except they had the wrong email on file so we never received anything).

Obviously we updated the email July 23rd over 3 weeks since our initial call June 28th, and we sent the receipt again for the fridge/warranty purposes, and were told it would take another 6-10 business days from July 23rd, and in lieu of this lengthy error/miscommunication they offered to refund the additional warranty that was paid which felt compensating, until we get a cheque in the mail today for only $235 (only the warranty amount paid), and we call the all state customer reps to find out there is a "System error that they have never seen before" and after checking, the manager said there has been 6 business days passed and the cheque hasn't even been ISSUED for the fridge of the $1540... this new manager we're speaking with said it usually takes 15 business days and that it is normal to send 2 seperate cheques in these cases which was never explained to us either.

This is unacceptable and frankly an embarrsament to the company, they don't know if it's human error, or it could be a system error, either way preceptionally to us it looks like they want to delay the payment as long as possible. This is the only insurance company that we have ever had issues like this and it feels like a real lack of integrity and accountability is presenting here. STAY AWAY CONSUMERS

COULDN'T GET ANY WORSE
December 1, 2023

A long one but might be of interest.

In Oct 2020 I purchased a Maytag Double over glass top stove from Home Depot. I bought it from them for some very specific reasons.

1: They matched the price of other vendors, had stock, and most importantly had a viable extended warranty program. The availability of the extended warranty was the key reason I bought from Home Depot having experienced their service regarding previous appliance purchases.

2: Previous purchases of major appliances (washer, dryer & inverter microwave) proved these extended warranties were a good investment as they extended the warranty out to 5 years. It was used once for both the washer & dryer and the microwave. The cost of the repairs was significantly higher than the cost of the extended warranty programs.

Earlier this week, the rear right burner stopped turning off completely and would not work in the 1& 2 o'clock positions. A serious failure. In addition, the upper over had slowly been taking longer and longer to heat up to a high temperature. I went through, found my original bill of sale and my warranty registration. I then went to "Squaretrade's (owned by Allstate Insurance) and registered my claim (remember, this is a stove with a burner that won't turn off completely.) That was 3 days ago. I have had to initiate every call which goes through a US site, set up to service American customers, not Canadian customers. The US site runs you through all kinds of questions to check it's you and not a scammer and then when you say "Home Depot Canada", they redirect you to a "Canadian site" and you go through the entire process again. According to my phone records, I've now done this 13 times.

The initial contact told me 'We were going to go through some troubleshooting steps that he was confident would solve the problem. The 1st was for me to pull the plug for "one minute" and that would reset the burner (for the novices, this is how you "fix" a big screen TV that won't turn on) I pointed out it was a mechanical rotating burner that you could hear it was not engaging. The next solution was to pull the breakers for the kitchen and that would reset the stove. I pointed out that I live in a part of the country where long power outages are a weekly event and the damn stove has been rest at least 6 times in the last month. I've met gnats with a higher IQ's.

One half hour he called me with an amazing program solution that he was confident I would be thrilled with. I was to search and find a technician to fix my stove, pay for the service and submit the bill to Squaretrade/Allstate for approval. If they approved it, I would be paid somewhere down the line, maybe... I pointed out to him, that all of those things were what I was paying his company to do and certainly weren't my responsibility and I was not Squaretrade/Allstate's bank.

Now things get really interesting. I received another call from a representative of Squaretrade/Allstate with another solution. He informed me that they in fact had "NO ONE" in Durham to provide that service (repairing my stove) so they were going to rebate me my money spent on the warranty. The stove repair would then be my problem.

I've been to Home Depot twice, promised action and got nothing. I spent today alone over 4 hours on hold for Home Depot Canada only to have them hang up 2 seconds into the conversation when they finally answered. I tried connecting with Atlanta only to find that even there, no one answers phones. I've left a message for their VP of Ops but would be surprised if I heard a peep out of her.
So, in effect, Home Depot sold me a product that they or their partner Squaretrade/Allstate knew there was NO support for which no matter how you slice it is fraud. Additionally, they use the warranty program as a competitive advantage which is also a major issue. Had I known that the warranty program was in fact nonexistent, I would not have bought the appliance from Home Depot. It is my intention to file a formal complaint with the Competition Bureau for deceptive marketing practices.
In addition, any consumer who purchased a similar product will have also been defrauded and rather than this being a single consumer, it may encompass hundreds of Home Depot customers over the last 3-4 years.
I will also initiate a small claims lawsuit against Home Depot Bowmanville and Squaretrade/Allstate to recover the cost of my warranty, interest, the loss of my time@ $200.00/hr early next week

Absolutely awful and borderline criminally fraudulent
October 30, 2023

Update: Ive enclosed a link to the court ruling that was granted against Square Trade earlier this year for doing exactly what they did to me.

https://webservices.courthousenews.com/sites/Data/AppellateOpinionUploads/2023-02-3--14-06-19-320cv2725.pdf

Lets see... I was supposed to pay $150 deductible but instead when I filed the claim they made me pay for the repair and told me they would reimburse me. That was in April it's now October 30th and I have yet to see a penny nor an apology I had to dip into my rent money in order to cover the repair and I informed every associate I spoke to of this. Also, I read over my terms and conditions of my policy over the fine tooth comb and know where was the word reimbursement mentioned not one single time. I think thats what they call "bait and switch".

Tip for consumers:

Im driving right now but will send my proof of purchase or my policy number when I get home if youd like.

SCAM ALERT | ZERO STARS
August 18, 2023

SCAM ALERT | ZERO STARS- I had items approved for claims, they even had me take a lesser amount that the item is worth for a supposed fast claim. You get an email like so:
"Your Allstate Protection Plans claim has been approved for Fast Cash. We are processing your payment and you'll receive an email shortly once the payment has been confirmed. Your eGift Card will be sent to the below email address:
(removed for this post)
As a reminder, there is no need to send your damaged item to us. Please note that this payment completes your protection plan coverage. If the cost of a replacement item is more than your Fast Cash payment, you may submit documentation of replacement cost and we'll pay you the difference, up to the price of your original item. If you have any other questions, please visit our help center 24/7 to chat online with our specialists. Thank you for protecting your item with us."

I received the emails so I throw away the broken items and receipts as I am trying to get rid of clutter in the first place. I go to print the emails a few days later before I head over to Walmart but find that now the payment emails are broken links, with no explanation or reason. They give you an email address for any problems but that email address comes back as incorrect/unused. You now realize these people aren't trying to protect you and your items, they are trying to take and keep your money by any devious means necessary. I finally get ahold of them by finding a 1-800 # in the small print and they tell me that the payments were withdrawn due to "possible fraud" due to filing 3 claims in one day. I'm sorry I didn't submit all these claims exactly when they occurred, the process isn't fun so the first two small items I put off, but when a tablet broke I had to go ahead and file the claims. Fast forward to now and they are asking for pictures of the items they previously told me I could throw away and for receipts that I didn't keep (BECAUSE MY CLAIM WAS APPROVED FOR "FAST CASH") or they won't help me. Please keep in mind, they have the receipt number, because you have to enter it to initiate a claim. In fact, once you put in the receipt #, the "warrantied" item is automatically added. They are using devious tactics to attempt to squeeze every last dollar for their shareholders while they NEGLECT TO PAY CLAIMS THEY APPROVED!
DO NOT TRUST Squaretrade"! It is a scam run by devious people that will try their hardest to deny your claims, EVEN IF IT WAS ALREADY APPROVED. Absolute trash company.

Absolute Worst... Never Again
August 17, 2023

0 stars. This is the absolute worst customer service I have ever received. I have spent over 5 hours on the phone providing information in order to file a claim for a purchased warranty. I have provided the same information multiple times and then have talked to several different people trying to make appointments for my washing machine to be diagnosed and serviced. During all of these phone calls I has put on hold countless times. Every single person I have talked to has given me conflicting information. My appointment was set up...I called to confirm...a representative told me appointment was canceled because warranty wasn't approved (even though I had already received an email that it was)...made a different appointment...a technician ended up showing up for the original appointment time but of course I wasn't there because someone told me it was canceled...had to call again to try to make another appointment...they told me they would call me back next business day (don't know why I couldn't just make the appointment then)...they call back next business day (I can't answer because I am working but I call back BEFORE the end of the day) but they decided to go ahead and close my ticket because I didn't answer the phone. So then the whole process has to start again.
The representatives you have to speak with to make the appointment are not pleasant and nothing is ever their fault. Absolutely no accountability. After I have explained to every single representative about what has happened (canceled appointments, warranty not approved so appointments can't be made, having to call back to make appointments, different information with every person I talk to, etc) they have put me on hold to consult their "notes" and of course none of this is noted. It's all the customers fault.
Oh...and they can only schedule appointments between 8am-5pm M-F...so for a person working full time who cannot easily take time off this is next to impossible. Tried to explain this and ask for alternate times, but yeah no.

To be clear, the representatives filing the initial warranty are very nice and helpful, but they ask for A LOT of information which took a long time. Representatives making appointments for you, awful...

I will not ever again purchase a warranty with All State through Square Trade and at this point I am not even sure what company is doing what but I am highly frustrated with the whole experience.

Pretty tough
August 3, 2023

Listen to this. We had a gaming monitor. Samsung, bought through walmart. We used this warranty. An issue arose, it needed repair. Nothing too major but could ostensibly become worse. We called square trade. They said take it to a licensed repair. We took it to a local place. They said that they wouldn't touch it cuz they'd void the warranty. The local place said we'd be better off using geek squad/best buy. We called square trade back. They said it's ok just take it to geek squad. Best buy/geek squad made an appt. We show up in person. They said no we won't fix this cuz you didn't buy it here. Wasted trip! We called square trade back this is now the third phone call. They said take it to the local place and don't worry. It's ok. So we did. The local place said he's not going to fix it and we would be better off getting square trade to fix or offer a new one. So we called square trade (fourth time) and they said ok, ship us this monitor. This seems quite daunting but we fex ex the thing. They said wait ten days after receipt and we'll send a gift card. After ten days, we hear nothing. We call (fifth time) and they say we need a few more days. Now, the summer is starting to fly by. So we wait, but nothing shows up. We call again. It is a friday, the sixth time, after a lot of holds they say they need more time. I said well you said that earlier this week. They said a few more days. Now I am worried cuz we don't have a monitor or a gift card. After all this running around, I feel I am owed a paycheck from square trade cuz I am sure doing a lot of work for a monitor that I no longer have! I call the seventh time and she says she can't help me so I get a supervisor. I said listen this has got to wrap up, the summer is over. The kids are going back to school. They need their monitor. He says something like the depot doesn't accept monitors so even though they have received it they don't know what to DO with it and I said well call them and let me talk to them and then he said he can't even call them. He can only email them. So I said listen, we gotta wrap it up. We really gotta wrap it up. Can we go over to the depot and say hey can you all acknowledge the existence of this monitor so that these patient and kind people can get their gift card so they can have a monitor which they haven't had for over a month and a half? Anyway. They money showed up later that weekend, in the form of the gift card. So I'll leave some stars. But I also feel that I should be compensated for the part time job I undertook of trying to follow the correct steps to utilize this warranty. I do feel like I lost work time, gas money, etc. trying to honor and follow their instructions. Good luck. I will try to not have a warranty issue ever again because it is extremely time consuming. Thank you for your time.

Broken Laptop Screen is apparently "Cosmetic"
March 10, 2023

Unfortunately during my day at class, I was bumped accidentally and my 6 day old laptop fell out of the bag and hit the ground corner first. It is useable, but my screen went from perfect darks when watching any kind of black background to having multiple green bleeding discoloration that started near the area of impact. Square trade initially denied that there was any issue they could fix because this was simply "cosmetic" as the body corner is slightly bent... After several days of angry phone calls back and forth with a slew of HQ photos showing the green discoloration, Square Trade reluctantly took the product. They held on my laptop for a week to do a diagnostic check. The screen is bleeding more and more each day, along with issues such as randomly shutting down, corruptions happening more and more, and a battery that now will not hold a charge/power cycles. Whatever happened to the fall is beyond cosmetic damage. Never again will I get allstate/square trade warranty. It is a scam. Newegg should be ashamed for not giving additional options in terms of warranty service.

Tried to upload photos taken by my phone, but all are apparently too large. If anyone would like to see, I have posted them in a google drive linked.

Lies. Please file a complaint with the Better Buisness B
January 14, 2022

I spent extreme amount of time with them getting the run around, but finally had my claim approved and now they just lie and say they sent the claim amount in an email that never arrives. Ive emailed them over 25 times trying to complete the process. When I call to ask that they send the the "gift card" for the claim amount, they always say they have to wait until tomorrow to send the card. It's such an unbelievable scam. Sams Club, Allstate and SquareTrade should all be ashamed. Everyone who has had a problem should file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Its an easy process & it would help to hold them accountable. https://www.checkbca.org/file-complaint?gclid=CjwKCAiA24SPBhB0EiwAjBgkhtb3BZeHdscHjTbGi5ArzkSEyU_fmqzpRVHy1e1ggB0ljinlOXch-BoC77gQAvD_BwE
