“Sprint's bad customer service”

Nupur J.
6/6/23

Unhappy with Sprint overall. I reached out multiple times to the customer service to have my phone unlocked. They kept saying they had but they hadn't unlocked the phone due to which I had to pay extra money to a third party to get the phone unlocked. They were not at all helpful and wasted months of my time, money and energy. Also, when I asked to speak to a supervisor, the agent was rude and didn't connect me. I wouldn't recommend them as their customer service is bad.

They have steadily become more difficult to work with. You can't pay your bill in cash at a store without a cash payment fee of five dollars for one. And they don't handle any problems in the store. They direct you to call the customer number. Seems rude. They say they handle repairs but they send the item out most of the time and they won't exchange faulty equipment any longer like they used to at a store. Maybe it's all so to the T-Mobile merger. I don't know but it's annoying.

I ordered a new phone and was told it would come with a SIM card. I got it the next day which was expected but it didn't have a SIM card and getting one ordered was a very horrible and difficult experience. It wasn't supposed to be hard but after 8 days, and over 10 hours of talking to their so-called specialists, who I couldn't understand and they didn't seem to understand me or what I needed so they kept transferring me, way to many times to count. I still don't have my SIM card after being told numerous times that it was ordered and on the way. Their employees don't seem to be on the same page and I got really frustrated by having to keep repeating myself.
Last night I talked to 2 women that seemed to understand what I needed and were great. They ordered me a SIM card with expedited shipping. So I still don't know if it will come but I'm really hoping so. They should screen their employees better because I was told 3+ separate times that a SIM card was on its way and it never came. It should have been easy because it was their mistake and everything about my order should have been filed away and obviously there filing system needs a lot of work. I have a new phone that all I can do is stare at and I am not happy with sprint. I understand about the COVID-19 but I have had plenty of problems in the past before that was an issue, but those problems would have to be in another review. I've been with sprint since 2004 but if I don't get my SIM card I am done with them because I shouldn't have to be stressed about something as simple as getting my phone going.

I use sprint and I wish that they had better coverage. There are alot of times I get one bar and thats it. As far as technology has came they should be at the top for service. I also think that their data is way to expensive.

I like Sprint, I mean I don't see much of a difference with the big carriers, they all lock you into some kind of contract. Sprint never drops my calls, so that is why I like them, their data package is some what reasonable so I like them. I have been with them for 10 years, so I guess they must be doing something right.

I have been a long time customer of Sprint. Im talking 15 years long time. They have good customer service when it comes to needing a payment arrangment etc, but when it comes to taking care of their long time customers, they suck! Literally everything is catered to brand new customers. Sometimes that makes me want to find a new carrier. I guess being with them for so long I just stick with it, but it gets old every time you are up for a renewal. Their prices are high as well, but I have heard they are cheaper than some carriers. My coverage is pretty good unless I am at my moms in a small town about an hour from where I live. I get no service at all out there. If Sprint would take care of their current long time customers, they would have a 5 star review!

I had sprint for many many many years before I recently switched away. Their customer service wasn't the best. They made me wait for hours on the phone to get anyone to help. The great things about Sprint were the reliability and it is definitely affordable.

The reviews seem to be not that good to work for this service. Yet, it semms more than the company itself does allow all this bad experience happen. I'd better look for another company as I'm not ready to take risks...

Sprint
What can you say about Sprint? Some say it's the "company I love to hate" while others have said, "if only they'd..." (followed by any number of things).

When Masayoshi Son, the CEO of Softbank acquired the majority share of Sprint, many of us "loyal" unlimited data customers were hopeful it would mean deep new capital for the number 3 Mobile Service Provider. And we anxiously awaited the major overhaul and upgrade to Sprint's LTE (4g) network. Unfortunately it wasn't adequate.

Unfortunately, two and one half years later, with the upgrades mostly complete, it's data network and it's voice network remains only "OK". I never got full LTE connections within the house. In fact most of the time it was 3G connections at best. And voice remained just adequate with times having to move around the house or having to actually go outside.

So despite the vast spectrum Sprint holds in most areas, despite new LTE equipment placed in most areas, it remains barely OK. Of course, when outside traveling in or around an urban area, network connections are good to very good. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the lack of enough towers and equipment to send out strong enough signals to ensure LTE-A quality most anywhere.

As for customer service, I always had good to great experiences dealing with Level 1 customer service reps. And that includes the overseas CSR's I dealt with. They were usually decently trained and eager to help. Unfortunately any call going beyond Level 1 support never amounted to much satisfaction. Granted my calls beyond Level 1 were always about network signals and without sufficient towers and equipment, without utilizing all available spectrum, there was nothing going to happen.

Price wise they're certainly not the most expensive but they're also not the least expensive provider. Granted unlimited data helps as their single strongest marketing advantage. But if you can only get a 500kb connection, all the free data in the world in worthless.

While with Sprint I had 3 devices that required service due to hardware issues. With their insurance, I was always able to get a new or reconditioned device within 1-2 days time frame.

The biggest downside to Sprint and Verizon were their CDMA technology networks that meant your device was typically unusable worldwide. Yes, a few newer devices had some GSM capabilities.

I finally left Sprint after 6 years because compared to AT&T the price was similar (except for the dang data limits) and AT&T certainly had far better and faster network signals. Overall paying a bit more for enough data each month was worth it carriers when I could often get 30-35mbps download speeds with AT&T.

If Sprint ever gets their 2500mhz spectrum operating with sufficient numbers of towers and LTE-A or 5G technology then they again may be worth looking at for service.

Of course, network signals and speeds are very dependent upon the market in which you live. And the spectrum they hold in that market.

3 stars for unlimited data and effort.
