“Spirit denied my claim”

Gil R.
6/26/21

I flew from Cali to LAX last month with Spirit and I told myself it will be the last time; my suitcase was damaged and delayed 24 hours. They refused to accept my claim because I wrote it more that 4 hours after my suitcase arrival. I need their report for my insurance and they denied it. I could not the claim online within 4 hours because when my suitcase arrived by FEDEX I was at work.

I got a round trip to Las Vegas w/ my new bride and got the trip for 109.00. Sounds really good compared to the return trip on Alaska for 238.00. BUT I saw that they only allow a personal item of 18" long when most small suitcases are about 22" long. I had 2 suitcases or overnight bags. I figured I could slip them under my seat on the plane. But when we got up to have our ticket scanned he told us we had to pay for those bags. So a lady nearby helped us but presented us the total bill of 198.00! I had no choice if I wanted to be on that flight. So what seemed like a good deal turned out to cost 307.00! That is 69.00 more than the much nicer Alaska airline!
On top of that, ANYTHING you want for snacks will cost you. Just a can of pop w/ ice is 3.50! And the seats are crammed in with very little padding including the back by your head gave me a neck ache. Armrests are very small, not very inviting. Resist the urge to "save a buck" and pay more to get a much nicer experience. I told several employees including the one who told me I had to pay extra for the 2 bags that I would NEVER AGAIN fly Spirit. Just to think that any other airline lets you take a carry on for free. RUN FROM SPIRIT AIRLINES!

Is it worth the $ I'd save for a Vegas-Atlanta trip by flying Spirit?
That's what I asked myself and here is what I found in January 2023:
1. Despite the many jokes about Spirit, the plane took off and landed EXACTLY as scheduled.
2. Narrowest and most uncomfortable seats of ANY airline.
3. Seats DO NOT recline even 1 inch.
4. Tray table is about HALF the size (DEPTH) of other airlines so for those who want to lean forward and use it as a headrest, GOOD LUCK!
5. Beverages during flight (juices & sodas) are $4 each which is actually LESS than the price at airport terminal sellers. On East bound leg, 1 cart service. Westbound, 2 cart services due to longer flight time.
6. WiFi available ONLY on some of their planes in their fleet. Had it going East, not going West.
7. If person in seat behind you constantly kicks your seat, you politely ask them to stop and even report it to a flight attendant, they do NOTHING to help you.
8. Pilot and one flight attendant TRY to be comedians over intercom. As a Vegas resident and experienced audience person, I suggest they keep their Spirit jobs.
9. Due to their low fares, expect EVERY Spirit flight to be 100% full.
10. ONLY things you can bring on board without paying more $$ is a purse, briefcase, small backpack or similar "1 per person personal item."
11. Spirit Airlines DOES NOT have TSA Pre-Check in Vegas. On the ATL-LAS leg, I was advised to have Spirit add my # to my Spirit account for future reference or be ready to go through slower normal TSA routine.
