This was the first time I've booked with SmartFares and so far i have no complaints. Though my actual flight is still upcoming, the booking procedure went smoothly. The confirmation process and email follow up was quick.

Smart fares is a pretty good travel site so far I have booked with them twice as they had the lowest prices. The first flight reservation was perfect. The second reservation ran into a hiccup when I checked out I noticed an extra $100 charge for seat selection which was not clearly stated that there would be a charge for or how much that charge would be. I called customer service and they gave me an email address to request a refund and I called back to verify just to make sure I wrote it down correctly and the customer service rep hung up on me as soon as I told him what I was calling for, to verify the email address for a refund. I called back and got another agent who verified the email for me and then proceeded to hang up on me as well. I emailed asking for a refund and they responded the next morning and said it would take 3-5 business days for a refund so we will see. Overall assuming I get my refund it is a good site with cheap fares. But be careful because most of the items like travel insurance, bag insurance, ticket change capabilities, have prices and you know that there is a charge but the seat selection part had no pricing or anything to let you know that you will be charged. I'll use smart fares again but with caution.

From Aviasales I was redirected
Terrible. Overcharged me and blamed my bank. Called the bank and they confirmed this to be untrue... Super suss then canceled my booking because the price "went up". ALL WITHIN 45 MINUTES. Then asked me how much am I willing to pay? Huh? Got the agent to repeat after me. I am not purchasing anything so I will be getting a full refund. Waste of time.

Switch and bait practice going on here. I saw prices in Canadian dolllars but then was charged a US Dollar amount with came out to $31.00 more than the price on the screen. Customer Service (chat bot) said Oh the extra charge was from your bank. I tried to explain that the issue was with their website conversion program and well, they just did not acknowledge the issue. So buyer beware if you are in Canada. The price on the screen is NOT what you will be charged. Like I said, bait and switch.

Found it in kayak and had the cheap ticket offers that I can only afford.
Because I wasn't able to select the individual flights that suited my son's needs I had to book 2 separate flights. The overall cost was good so that was a plau. It took some time to get the second flight confirmation. I had to call in to get it looked at to make sure it was going through.
We booked a flight through Kayak to Alaska, who then booked us through SmartFares. I was a little confused but so far the experience has been very good. I had a question and contacted customer service at SmartFares and they were very helpful and patient as I tried to correct a mistake I made with travel date. Email confirmation and communication has been good too. Hopefully, the flight day experience will go without a hitch.

I have to call the credit card company to make sure its confirm. Cause at first i have little bit problem with my credit card. After calling smart fare they stated only take 2 hours process to ticketing department, but the reality its took almost 12 hours, and I have to call myself to find out if its confirm.
The website was great to use, and there were no added fees tacked on from the time I searched the flight to the booking. However, on the confirmation page you are asked about many add-ons that are usually clicked into the default "accept" position, meaning that a few people who aren't careful about the fine print will skip ahead and have unwanted extra charges. Otherwise I am satisfied with the service.
I was redirected from Skiplagged, I chose Smartfares because they had the cheapest flights of my chosen itinerary, a good $40 below what the airline itself was charging!
I didn't get confirmation email upon the purchase. It wasn't clear whether the transaction went through. I wasn't sure if the purchase was closed or not, I went ahead and brought a ticket directly from the airline which ended up cheaper than this agency charged. I tried to dispute it but failed. Never never do business with this agency! Now I am stuck with two airline tickets and also this agency is charging me $200 to change the date.
Try to confirm the number of free language on the website before booking and couldn't find it anywhere. There is link to the airline compagnie that's not working. Other than is great deal and easy manage.
Cheapest deal for my fare
My card was declined and I called the support and they were very kind and listened to the reason. They held my ticket booking for 3 days and I got the same rate later on. They also helped to bill me with the choice of my currency (Euro).
The con is, I had to call and ask for /explain why I was charged more than what I was shown on the final payment page. And it was due to Dollar to Euro exchange. I hope this can also be automated - that the billing is done in the same currency as shown in the payment page and not go through these hassles.

"How much are you willing to pay?" This is what our SmartFare agent (Nixon) asked us when we called, stranded at the Perth airport after Air New Zealand informed us our flight home to Canada had been cancelled. My answer...$5000 CAD each. So when quoted $4740 each, we said yes, economy seated together. The final price became $13,885 CAD, economy seated apart. We felt desperate, took the seats, got home.
We feel we have been lied to, robbed, and taken advantage of in our desperate situation to get home.

After writing this review on SmartFare, San Diego, California, I submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They were super helpful and effective. They submitted my complaint to SmartFares, and I got a phone call from SmartFares the next day. They granted my request to reimburse the over charged fees based on my price-gouging complaint. I agreed to their terms requested of me: to remove my complaint with the BBB. I did so, and my extra charges were reimbursed.
I did not request some of the high fees charged for our initial tickets; I thought that, in light of the over-charging by ALL the airlines because of the number of people trying to fly home, it was worth the high inflated rate to get home. Also, I thought if I limited my complaint request to the last inflated fee, it would be more likely to get a settlement. I was correct. Good luck with your complaints to the Better Business Bureau.
Quick and easy throughout the process. When the selection listed give airline a seat preference for window or isle, there was no listing of a price associated (other choices had fees visible). At checkout there was no final price given before confirmation. After finalizing the purchase, then I saw a $90 fee for requesting a window seat without any actual seat assignment. Thankfully I called and was able to be assured they would refund that $90 within 48 hours.
