“Professional Instructors and updated courses available”

John G.
4/10/19

I am interested in WordPress and SkillShare provides great course for it. Most ofthe instructors are really good at their job and teaching very understandable for beginners. They always keep content up to date and making new courses depending on the technology. Also there is library in Skillshare.com, which you can find any topic you, want for example integrating PHP with databases or SEO for WordPress. I really liked the variety of courses in this site.

“Good website, but”

I'm trying to change my payment method for a month! Support is terribly slow (on the photo you can see my chat on e-mail, which is actually only a continuation of it, I'd deleted the initial chat). It has a looot of useful classes of different directions and topics. But support and site performance are low.

They have no phone # to contact. They would not refund me on the day I was charged. So they charged me for a whole year and would not reimburse any of it. The one or 2 videos I viewed were poor quality. The only phone number I found was nothing but a VM that tells you to go online.

Tip for consumers:
That they have horrible customer service and refund policy.

Don't sign up for a "free" trial on this site as you will be charged $167 per year with no way of ending youe subscription short of changing your card. These guys are thieves!

I would give less than one star if I could. My experience aligns with that of other commenters. I got caught up in a free trial, but my credit card was charged a day earlier than anticipated, and I couldn't cancel in advance. Customer support was unreachable, three months later, I'm still in ongoing communication with Skillshare, attempting to explain my situation to them. Their response remains consistent: I'm now outside the cancellation window, according to them. I'm genuinely perplexed as to why the company is unwilling to initiate a refund when the error originated from their end by charging me a day before. Is it reasonable for the company to have the flexibility to act as they see fit while I'm expected to adhere strictly to their policies? You will not find a button to cancel, you have to contact them on time, so leave plenty of time to cancel your free trial in advance because it is a hassle.

Tip for consumers:
Be aware of the cancellation policy, because it is not easy to cancel!

Unfortunately, the company relies on charging customers even after they canceled their subscription. I have canceled my membership during the trial as it didn't work for me, but they continue to charge my card. When I reached to the customer service, they ignored my complaint, refused to refund me, and instead tried to sell me more services. Really unprofessional, unethical and least sensitive. They don't have any escalation process either. Never gonna use them again.

Be warned, they are relentless in accessing membership fees without notice. Additionally, the membership fees are variable and you could see different pricing from others. The staff that handle membership complaints, and refund process, are trained to avoid and delay the complaints about unauthorized charges by all means.

As for the quality of classes... that's content.

As for the quality of the company... duplicitous.

I started one year subscription in end of 2019. After taking a few classes I found there are not too many contents in there. So the one year subscription is not really worth it. Never mind, since I already paid, nothing I can do. But just last month, when I got my credit card statement, it got charged $99 again for automatic renew. I immediately try to call the company, but there is no number to call. So I submitted a ticket online and request a refund since I haven't even use the site for months. The response is if it passes 7 days then you don't get any refund.
I would avoid such deceptive company which use a default setting to get as much as possible from its customers.

Tip for consumers:
Consider using other sites.

They are big time scammers. They would close a teacher's account few days before the payout with no valid reason. I'm a teacher and they scammed me with more than $6,000. Don't teach or support this platform in any way. All teachers who got blocked got the same kind of email a few days before payout.

After using Skillshare for several years under a monthly plan, they booted me out of the plan without any notice. Then, every time I logged in, I was pointed to a screen where I had no choice but to subscribe to a costly annual plan. When I contacted customer service they were incredibly unhelpful and pretended like I just suddenly wasn't a subscriber anymore and that there was no wrong on their end. I imagine that Skillshare must suddenly want to convert their earlier monthly members who were paying $9.99 a month to yearly members and this was a sneaky, incredibly unprofessional way to go about it. I can't imagine how many members they have upset with this bizarre move.

Skillshare unable to complete a basic software SaaS requirement. I wanted to continue to use my paid subscription however login email address was cancelled due to business sale. Authentication system inadequate and of course Skillshare kept the remaining balance whilst not letting me access account.

Skillshare also unaware of Australia data sovereignty and privacy charter regulations and laws asking customers to send passport to license for verification, even though verified via PayPal transactions and receipts.

The content could be considered okay. But the cancelation process is a scam. It is very hard to cancel your subscription and if you do, Skillshare just re-enables your automatic payments via paypal

I had a problem with getting access to my account.
The assistant was helping but then suddenly stopped replying. I tried to reach her again and even sent another request through the website, but still to answer whatsoever. Now I can't reached my account which I paid for. Very dissapointed. I used to love this company.

I have a class on Skillshare.

My class was fine until I contacted Skillshare when they didn't pay me for the first month. They didnt provide a good customer service experience, and I expressed my frustration with this and asked to speak with a supervisor.

Skillshare didnt let me speak with a supervisor, but then I found my class was being removed art the end of the month.

There have never been any problems with my class or anything before, but now Skillshare are removing it, just because I asked to speak with a supervisor about their customer service.

I still haven't been able to speak with a supervisor, every request I made was denied.

So not only are they now removing my course, but all of my students will no longer be able to finish the course.

So their temper tantrum is affecting hundreds of their users too.

I actually want this fully investigated and find out who is responsible for this, or im actually going to seek legal action as im sure there are grounds for a legal case here.

I hope you will take this matter seriously. I will be logging all emails and all communication.

If you're a teacher, be careful! One time they will kick you off from the platform with the following message:

"Upon review, the majority of watchers of your content appeared related to each other with inauthentic account information. As the misrepresentation of minutes watched, reviews, or referrals goes against our terms of service, the account was closed. "

I can with confidence say that I have never been involved in any kind of manipulations with my account and all students and views were acquired exceptionally organically.

Teachers, just stay away! Youtube is better ;)

I signed up for a 1 year subscription for $99 back in July 2021. I only wanted to use Skillshare for 1 year, so after I signed up, I went into my account and disabled autorenew.

I receive my credit card bill in August 2022, there is a charge from Skillshare for $167. I immediately logged into my skillshare account and started a chat with a customer service rep. I told them what happened and said I wanted a refund. They looked into my account and said, "Sorry, it's been more than 14 days since we charged you - according to our terms & conditions, there is no refunds"

I went back and forth with the rep stressing that I turned off autorenew - same stock response. They never sent me an email prior to being recharged letting me know that my subscription was going to autorenew - and at a higher price.

Stay away from this company - you can find all the same instructors on Udemy, and when you buy a course, you own it for life. Pay once - that's it. Plus, Udemy is always running sales, so you can buy an excellent course for as little as $9.

Buyer beware with Skillshare should be their slogan...

Tip for consumers:
Don't use Skillshare - they are very deceptive about how they charge you, they don't warn you that you're going to be recharged. Even if you shut off autorenew, they still charge you (that's what happened to me). Go to Udemy instead - once you buy a course, you own it for life (along with all the updates).

I took a few courses on there, but I didn't like the GUI of their site - it's not laid out well. Go to Udemy - I love their site, their layout, and the fact that once you purchase a course, you own it for life, as well as all the updates of that course.

Got charged for subscription even though I deleted my account. There is no way to opt out in my account on Skillshare, so I deleted my account thinking that once the free trial was over I would not get charged. Well, that didn't happen. I was able to stop auto billing in Paypal, but I didn't see a way to do that within Skillshare and they are not going to refund me even though I have no account after deleting it. A very negative experience and I would never recommend anyone sign up.

They charged me the premium membership for one year (99USD) even though I have canceled it! And when I asked for refund, they just refused because they said I asked for refund after 7 days after charging! I would not know they charged me even I canceled my membership until I checked my credit card bill! So I think this is a trap and their business is insincere and very sneaky!

I feel you can find most of the stuff Skillshare has online for free through other online services such as YouTube. Also, be aware your membership auto-renews so if you paid you only have 7 days to contact them for a refund.

I was looking for a class to learn my indigenous language and skillshare popped up as the first result. I thought that I would try to go on skillshare again when I saw it because they were clearly implying they have classes for what I wanted to learn so I put my card info in thinking they weren't gonna bill me until the end of the year or whatever. But when I got onto skillshare there were no classes that were teaching that language which upset me a bit but what really got me angry was the fact that they charged me. They stated that each customer can only get 1 refund which I already used about a year ago when something similar happened.
Skillshare does not value learning new skills as they advertise, they claim that they're the easiest way to learn new skills and they teach them to all members. But like I said earlier they don't value learning or education they, don't have respect for their member they are scammers and unless you want to learn basic skills they are not as reliable as they claim to be. As you can see in my photos below that they are trying to trick people into giving them their money. And I was unfortunate enough to fall for it twice please Don't be an idiot like me and just learn what you want on youtube it really will save you time and money.

I got a free trial for 30 days and only watched some courses for 30 mins and forgot to cancel. And they charged $168.99 dollars for a whole year! Money wasted! Especially during the pandemic when money is tight. This just makes my situation so much worse!
I contacted them to cancel my plan and receive a refund and they straight up rejected me.

Tip for consumers:
Do yourself a favor and stay away from skillshare!!!!!

I was charged for the membership renewal without prior notice. When I realized it, I cancelled quickly on the website. They refused to give me a refund as it was not within seven days. My credit card company would not cancel the charge referring to their terms of service. But they say that you can use your account if you were charged for the period remaining but they want to charge me again. I have now sent three emails without any answer as to why I cannot at least use my account. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I have automaticf renewals with other companies and they ALWAYS send a notice before charging. Do not deal with this company, they should be fined for improper practices.

On the phone with my credit card company now trying to block the next charge. Same story as others. I've tried to cancel my account with three emails and three phones calls. No contact link of any kind on their website. I got their phone number from my credit card statement, not from their website.
You call their phone number and get an answering machine telling you to email them.
You can go to the Terms and Conditions page and there's a link there that is supposed to be where you can cancel. But it only allows you to add new payment methods. SCAMMERS

Tip for consumers:
AVOID

Products used:
I signed up last year and then never used it, so I tried canceling and it's impossible. They have no contact info on their website. I found their phone number on my credit card statement and called, only to get an answering machine asking that you send an email to *******@skillshare.com. That didn't work, no replies to three attempts. Won't respond at all. Had to freeze my credit card to stop them.

I signed up for a trial and then canceled and removed my credit card. When I checked my credit card a few months later, I was charged for not reason for an entire year of Skillshare Premium. I asked for a refund and they said no, because of their 7d refund policy. It's all a big scam. Don't even try to create an account, you'll get charged for nothing and the quality is even below Youtube tutorials.

I signed up for a free two month trial with a discount code. They went ahead and charged me for a full year after the trail ended, even when I tried to cancel *during* the trial. I'm a student who pays tuition and rent, and being charged $99 twice for absolutely no reason is garbage. I tried to get a refund but since their refund window is only 7 days I couldn't get any of my money back. Avoid at all costs. Just watch a youtube video or something instead, the quality is not what they say it is. Would give zero stars if I could.

Tip for consumers:
Make sure you have the money in case they end up charging you.
