Shutterfly's reputation reflects a mix of strong product quality and significant customer service challenges. Many users appreciate the quality of photo books and personalized items, often highlighting the durability of products. However, recurring complaints about service delays, order inaccuracies, and inadequate customer support overshadow these positives. Customers frequently report issues with refunds, communication breakdowns, and technical difficulties on the platform. This blend of satisfaction with product quality and frustration over service reliability suggests a need for Shutterfly to enhance its customer service approach to improve overall customer experience and retention.

I ordered graduation announcement cards... arrived in the time they stated but when they were delivered, I looked at the back of the card and the wording about where my daughter was going to attend college was missing. They rushed ordered another set and it just arrived today. Again, no wording on the back. HOW?! So, so disappointed. Will never order from them again. Folks, there are plenty of other places that I'm sure will do a better job!
Lately, I have been extremely disappointed with shutterfly. First, their app (which you have to use for several deals) works only about half the time. Second, projects I work on and save sometimes disappear. Third, sometimes the app won't let me check out. To top it all off, when I finally recieved my latest photo book, the pictures were chopped off in weird ways not like how they were on the preview when I ordered it. Plus, customer service stinks. At one point, I tried calling and was on hold for over two hours when I gave up. So I started one of those email chat things... and they never responded. A couple days later they emailed a me a "how did we do" survey for the chat. Well, not too good considering I never heard a word back. Avoid shutterfly if at all possible- I will be from now on.
Here is a sample of what I got but I have 21 4X6's and almost that many 4X4's of this mess. I wouldn't use them again!
The experience on shutterfly starts off great, but you soon realize they will upsell you on everything, so that somewhat reasonably priced photobook you thought you were going to be creating goes for ~$40 costs over $100 by the time you check out. To give an example, you have to PAY to have the shutterfly logo removed from the photobook you create. That's ridiculous. Very sneaky, very crafty, but by the time you've invested 3 or 4 hours to do the design and then realize how much the final product is going to cost you, you are effectively left with two choices - pay $100 when you were only really willing to pay $40 because of all the little extras you have to pay for, or start from scratch on another site that is a little more transparent with their pricing. They also charged my credit card $29 for overseas shipping when I was quoted $9.95 in the checkout process, so the photobook actually ended up costing me $120! Not happy. Given its lack of transparency and all the little hidden costs they slug you with, I would recommend looking elsewhere if you are thinking about using Shutterfly.
The website and app did not state anywhere the currency. I assumed it was in my currency which is cad. I also noticed that my shutterfly order was about $5 more than my local Walmart but I decided to order anyways. I got an email confirmation after paying that also did not show the currency. I paid $18. Days later, I check my credit card statement and I was charged $28 for a few prints that were already overpriced to begin with. I probably paid $15 more than I needed to for. Waste of money.
Recently married and wanted to get a print for the wall. I have purchased a photo book in the past and liked it. I was drawn to the simple design/layout of the print, so I placed an order. I should have taken the reviews at face value because they were right. (They are gone now.) The print was nice, but the frame is total garbage. It doesn't even have glass, so good luck cleaning it. I paid almost $40 for a frame that could easily be replaced with one from the dollar store and still be better quality. The piece of flimsy cardboard that is the back of the frame is all warped and wavy and I can not believe I paid almost $70 and this is what I got. Never again. Total rip off.
For the amount of money they make and how big their company is, you would think they could afford to have tracking on their shipments. I have had multiple orders lost, misplaced and they have also informed me that they do not know what happened to the order. Another situation where the order didn't arrive and was lost, they didn't even notify me. When an order actually does arrive it takes weeks. Also, getting a hold of a customer representative is also a joke and the wait time is ridiculous. Probably because they have so many issues with their orders. And when you finally do get a hold of someone, everyone tells you something different about what happens to your order. It's a shame, because they have good products. I'll never order from them again.
Shutterfly has stolen $54.00 from me and refuses to give it back, in the middle of a pandemic causing mass unemployment. On the streets we call that a robbery. I've never been ripped off and then treated so callus by a company of this size. Tell your friends to go somewhere else for whatever they might be looking for.
I ordered well in advance of Mother's Day at the beginning of April. A month and a half later the book still had not appeared after Mother's Day. I called and complained and it was mailed the next day. One favorite photo was left out and two others cropped so poorly the better part of the photo was cut out of the book.
Quality of their work is fine, but their customer service rates a "0". Their online status tracking is inaccurate and inconsistent - I get one result on the app, completely different info on the website. They never meet their "estimated delivery date". In fact, you're lucky if it shows up at all. Two of my last three orders disappeared mid-transit. The follow-up makegood took 3 weeks to arrive. Reaching someone at customer service is a challenge. Very limited phone line hours, and horrendous waits. Once the replacements for my most recent lost order show up, I'm done with Shutterfly.
I couldn't be happier with how ways it was to upload and edit photos. Quick production and delivery. Order made, and book received in 5 days. Product is beautiful
I spent so much money on prints, sent in HD quality pictures and received absolute garbage it's so blurry that walmart fast prints would have done a better job. It also took over 2 weeks for them to ship it. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!
I was ripped off because the app never converted my purchase to Canadian dollars. Beware! Was not expecting to have to pay an additional $70 extra. Plus they were late delivering and the quality is not worth it. Better off going with Costco's.
I ordered graduation announcements for my brother. When I got the announcements there were NO PICTURES! The words were on the card but no pictures. I work a full time job so I gave my dad the account information and the conformation email. When he called they made him wait for almost an HOUR. Then would not let him do anything with a reorder because I was not there. I get off work at 7pm and he told them that. They lady assumed him that they would have someone to help at 7 if I called. I called at 7 and they were closed! Now I have $35+ dollars down the drain because these people are liars! WOST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED! I will NEVER shop here again! Mistakes happen but what you do about them says a lot about your company.
I spent many hours and days trying to make a photo book as a gift and their stupid people sent it to Illinois i live no where close to there i will sue if i dont get my package soon its supposed to get in june i hope they go bankrupt and die kys shutterfly employees and owner u will not be having my business again they also make up excuses for customer servise which are BS
After spending two full days putting together photos for 2 photo books and waiting a long time to get them, they arrived today. This after almost giving up because of the difficulty using their illogical and difficult website. To my horror almost all the photos were very dark, much darker than in the pdf file I sent them to use and much darker than those I printed myself on glossy photo paper similar to what I ordered. I have published many books including many with photos and never in my 4 decades of publishing have I ever seen such a poor rendition. I tried to contact the company but posted hours says not available on weekends and chat not even available. Now too late I see their low ranking and the fact they won't pay return shipping even when its their error, which clearly it is.
I ordered our wedding invites last November, but due to COVID19 we have to limit the number of guest we can have at our wedding. I needed to re-order 200 invites stating the limiting of guests. Shutterfly reimbursed me for the 200 new invites I had to order, all I had to pay was shipping! I have never been disappointed by their product or customer service! Would recommend to all my friends & family.
The quality is great but no better than what Walmart offers. The biggest problem is shipping cost (outrageous) and they are DISHONEST with promos. Every time I try to order and use a promo there is a hidden restriction. It won't work, etc. 86 minute wait to speak to someone at customer service and they are NEVER polite or helpful. Done with Shutterfly
On two browsers it keeps reloading so I can't even get my pictures/projects uploaded.
Install a third browser just to be able to get the photos on the site.
Then tried to order, does nothing.
Tried contacting customer support, can't fine email contact anywhere.
Wait next day for chat help. Suggest clearing cash, etc. tried on 3 broswers, 2 different credit cards, does not work.
Obviously this company wants no business form customers.
Complete waste of time.
Do not waste your time!
I became a customer of Shutterfly by default when Kodak went out of business some years ago. At first their promotions were fair and 50% off actually meant 50% off. No longer - it's 50% off parts of an order not the entire project. If you are not a US customer, delivery is not free and can be quite expensive. The company is not really responsive to inquiries about "discounts" that are meant to induce customers to purchase, but are effectively less than they advertise. I have made a number of costly photo books with Shutterfly and I am increasingly unhappy with the experience. There are other less expensive providers - I am searching them out and suggest others do the same.
