I was having a problem with my garage door not closing properly. I contacted select home warranty and relayed my problem to them. The next day i received a service call from King Garage Doors from Bartlett Illinois, advising me they would be at my home later in the day. They kept me updated as to when service tec would be at my home. The problem with my door was taken care of. I'm very happy with the service from King Garage and Select Home Warranty.
DO NOT sign up with them! Purchase home warranty back in September of 2023 based on an advertisement I received in the mail they claiming that they provide Free roof leak coverage! When I wanted to use them this winter for my roof leak, they denied it. So far I had 3 different issues that they denied all of them. Horrible company and Big Scam! They charged me $75 to cancel my membership?! They are ripping of people! All their agents are located outside US!
Takes 2 more days when a Repairman doesn't show up and to find another repairman. By then the weekend is here and the clothes pile is getting bigger and the water in the wash machine, that is the problem is starting to stink up the house.
Select Home Warrenty is not right! During a pandemic I paid a plumber out of pocket over $750+ & I was only reimbursed $125?! Come on man that's some bulls#it! The policy was only $1050! Why did I pay for a warranty & still paying for services that is supposed to be covered by the policy?! I don't get it but to that company, I hope they get it together in the future, but for now it's a NO GO!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t do it...
My warranty says fixes plumbing but not stoppage. However, now that I may have a plumbing leak they say it is not covered. Leak is not stoppage it should be covered. Now I'm guessing anything that goes wrong they will state not covered. Giving money away using them.
The first two claims were serviced ok but the third, concerning a non-functioning spa heater was a nightmare. First they could not find a contractor so I got an email from them say to find my own and call them back to get authorization. I quote: "... please call our authorization team at... before you perform any repairs." So I did. After being shuffled around I spoke to someone from their authorization team who said they didn't give authorizations to policy-holders over the phone and I should do it by submitting the estimate by email. So I went to the email address given me. There was no facility there to submit ANYTHING SCANNED. I called back up and then got the same scripted response. Besides this they use people in India for customer service so it's tough to understand their accent. Finally asked my technician to call them (apparently they do speak to techs to give authorizations). Hopefully this will resolve things. All this could have been avoided if their initial email was not so full of misinformation.
Customer representatives are polite and they answer the phone in acceptable time, but it takes for ever to find a technician to fix the problems and this can take more than a week and at the end the technician they find can't do the job. I never had this experience with any other home warranty companies.
Thoroughly educate yourself prior to purchasing a home warranty plan.
I bought the SHW's Platinum Care plan after specifically informing the representative that my intention was to purchase their top of the line, making it clear that I wished the following coverage; AC, water heater, plumbing, to name a few. This led to the payment of an entire year's premiums upfront ($450).
If I have SHW's top of the line plan, as described to me at the time of purchase, then why do I keep being informed of the following, "... that coverage is an additional $49.95, which you did not purchase," each time I attempt to file a claim? However, whenever it's been necessary to file a claim, it seems to end with the same decision, "After further review, the problem you are having is not covered under your policy." This leaves me with only one recourse; fight the decision.
If that wasn't enough of an insult, the representatives repeatedly write my claims using their own assessments by twisting my words and ignoring the service company's and my explanations, therefore, making it easy to deny the claim.
It's unfortunate these companies are allowed to hide behind loopholes in order to avoid the responsibility of a legitimate claim. If they are covered by their wording, then I can only deduce that the problems lies in the lack of monitoring by parties these companies answer to.
Wording used by SHW is presented in a deceptive manner, and omits important necessary information that would assist a consumer in making an informed decision when purchasing a policy.
This deception is referred to as bait/switch advertising. The company offers something that is desirable and replaces it w/something not desirable when a client submits a claim. A common loophole SHW hides behind is in the term "leak," making it possible to deny claims based on the fact that any unit (heater, plumbing, etc) containing water will be denied if resulting in a leak, even though the leak isn't primary problem. A case of cause/effect, where a primary problem may be a crack in a unit due to normal wear and tear, compromising functionality of unit (covered by wordings in contract) won't be covered because the cause resulted in the effect of a leak. Conveniently allowing company to hide behind the term "leak," resulting in they're denial of a legitimate claim.
Suggestion to SHW: perhaps it would be more honest & accurate to inform customers verbally, and revising wording in contract to reflect the truth; NO CLAIM INVOLVING LEAK OF ANY KIND WILL BE COVERED, for these were words provided to me AFTER THE FACT.
Perhaps it's time warranty companies not be allowed to hide behind loopholes & deceptive wording that cheats customers.
In addressing my complaint, SHW behaved inappropriately, resorting to engaging in unprofessional conduct. I'm baffled with the business' insistence to intentionally muddle the facts by introducing irrelevant information and supplying boldface untruths in order to support their defense, popular tactics among large corporations, attorneys, and politicians.
The company should accept their responsibility instead of continuously searching for loopholes in order to deny coverages that are rightfully a customer's rights, since they upheld their part of the contract by paying their premiums.
We have had select for one year now. When we call for a repair they never have anyone available and want you to pay for the technician before they send someone out. If I have to do that what is the use of having this home warranty plan. Roof leak claim been waiting for someone 3 months or more to come out still no one available to take the claim. Just ridiculous if you ask me. JT
It's easy enough to file a claim online, but after 72 hours I still had no appointment with a technician and no estimate as to when I would receive help. I was advised to hire my own technician and then file for reimbursement. My guy came out same day I called. Still waiting around to hear from warranty company. Don't waste your money.
For each claim I have made. It has been a battle to get it covered. They make it complicated and difficult and usually find a reason to not approve a claim or to only cover it partially.
I tried but wasn't able to see what address I put on the account. I was checking while I was on the phone with the caller. Btw he called immediately when I put my phone number online.
