“So there I am… a recent transplant from Seattle, Washington...”

Thomas M.

So there I am… a recent transplant from Seattle, Washington in Richardson, Texas. My family and I are new in town and we need work on our house. My wife and I have a nine year old son and a daughter that will be born in a few months. Our house does not have enough bedrooms for everyone. But it does have a dining room that could be converted into a bedroom. I start looking for a contractor to do the work, but I have no idea who to trust. This is where SafePact saved me! Before contacting SafePact, I narrowed my search down to an expensive general contractor I found online and two smaller local contractors that neighbors recommended. I liked the general contractor with the website because I was confident the job would get done the way I wanted. But he was so much more expensive (like… more than 2X more expensive) than the contractors my neighbors recommended. That's when I found SafePact. The way SafePact works is this. First, you and the contractor decide what work needs to be done and how much it will cost. Then, you, the homeowner, deposit money into a SafePact escrow account. At the end of the project, when you and the contractor agree that everything is complete, the money is released to the contractor. The video on the SafePact website explaining the service made so much sense to me. Having SafePact hold onto the project funds until the end of the project was like an insurance policy insuring that the project would get completed. When I called the first local contractor to tell him about the SafePact service, he was intrigued. Apparently, he had a few homeowners slow pay him and short pay him for work he had done. He liked the idea that he would know ahead of time that I could pay for the work he would be doing. When I called the second local contractor to tell him about the SafePact service, he immediately told me he would not work with me if I did not give him 50% of the project cost up front. I did not like the idea of paying someone I did not know for work they had not yet done. I found out a few months later that this contractor was related to the neighbor who recommended him. Apparently, he was unemployed and tried to make extra money doing "handy-man" work. After I got to know more of my neighbors, they showed me some of the work he had done at their houses which was sub-par at best. SafePact help me narrow my choice to the first local contractor. I saved an enormous amount of money on the "dining room to bedroom" conversion. And my project got done ahead of schedule. The local contractor told me that he was more motivated to get my project done because he knew he would get paid on time. So, use SafePact if you want to… • Insure your project will get done the way you want it • Attract good contractors • Screen out shady contractors I really could not be happier with the SafePact service. It was easy to use and they saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you SafePact!
