“Excellent Parts at Excellent Prices”

Keagan K.
2/6/24

I have been almost exclusively shopping RockAuto for vehicle parts for the last 5 years. My experience has been great! I constantly find a good choice of quality name brands to choose from and great low prices compared to anyone locally. I always get what I orderd and the few times I have needed to return parts, their return service is streamlined and simple to follow just keep original box parts came in. Really, customer needs to know what they are looking for when they buy. RockAuto isn't going to hold your hand but if you know what you want, you can find it.

“Not very good any more”

I had used Rockauto.com for years but quality control has gone down hill, customer service is near nonexistent and if you want to talk to someone about customer service give it up. Got my last part from them end of January and arrived January. Couldn't install for 2 weeks and within 2 weeks the part which had to be repaired to use no longer worked. Purely insane BS now. They can count another customer lost.

So, I ordered parts from rockauto and they arrived very quickly. I was worried that dispite my best efforts they would be wrong. Nope they weren't. Quick struts fit great. It was a pain to get the old ones out. But that has nothing to do with Rock Auto. They got me the right parts quick and cheap.

I ordered some parts last Friday and I paid for expedited shipping to receive all by Wednesday. The parts came from different places and shipping companies and as now Thursday 1:33 pm I am still waiting for some parts. They should refund at least a percent of the shipping as wasn't arrived on time like they said in the payment process and I lost my appointment that was for today at 9am. They have no customer service and when you select the parts to let them know that arrived late, they have an automatic response to keep the parts for later ‍‍no other option to ask for customer service representative or get a partial refund. 4/5 stars.

There was a fraudulent charge on my card for Amazon after using rockauto.com. This may have nothing to do with RockAuto and I tried to give them a heads-up anyway but they don't answer their phones.

Most of their products are reasonably good quality, with a few poor items(e.g. Gas fill tube with hose for my 1992 Ford van; the rubber cracked after a little more than one year).
Also, tried returning some Mevotech lower arms for my 2006 Subaru, and could only get a replacement, which I did not want.
However, the biggest problem is their site does NOT have a review section for bought items(as Amazon does), which is a real hindrance to getting rid of poor quality items they carry,. I believe it would be in their best interests to have a review section.

Retracted my initial review, I failed to look closely enough inside the package, and the missing pads were behind the first set, I just didn't notice. So, I received what I had expected. And I'm pleased with the product and Rockauto!

Things were fine until I tried to install the regulator and one of the holes was tapped incorrectly. I fixed it on my own, you need to have a way of getting feedback on your products so you can correct issues.

Tip for consumers:
The site needs to have a customer service contact.

This is one of those sites you need to pay attention to every little detail. This is a good site if you know what you are looking for and looking at its not as user friendly. There are things some people don't realize they need to look at for various parts.
-Brand- There are various brands and good amount of known ones to be reliable. If you don't know what is do research or ask someone who is a car mechanic. To many people go cheap cheap then they get what they pay for...
-Part # and details- Some parts are set-up differently and are made for different locations I.E. Left/Right, Front/Rear, Upper/Lower. Spark plugs will either be in the right depth or not you need to check. Just be careful of alternate parts sometimes they work sometimes they don't but if you are not sure stick to th OEM based models.
-Cross reference sites- Check with like auto zone of similar parts based on the part # and look at prices sometimes you can find better deals on part on amazon.

The thing about this site also it has pretty much every part for majority of vehicles so not every site is like that. I have years of experience when it comes to ordering parts and if you know the systems for doing so its not hard to do but if you are just fixing your own or a buddies vehicle and are not familar in ordering parts and use to going to the store yea you might mess up and not get what you wanted/needed.

The delivery with rockauto is not the greatest using Fedex and USPS which have a bad rep and it's mainly their fault for stuff being broken on delivery so would have to place most the blame on them.

The site works and is great value if you know what you are doing and looking for if not you are going get annoyed. I've gotten numerous parts from Rockauto over the years and they have worked as intended and still no problems so far. So some quick advice

-Don't go economic for most things because they won't last long stick with daily driver.
-Make sure the part you are getting matches the specs you need if not sure to look at ask someone who knows. Some people also don't know the full model of vehicles need to make sure of that because some differ in major ways
-Stick to the return deadline 30 days this is one of the companies that you have to also pay for the shipping of return. This is not amazon they don't make that kind of profit like them since they pretty much sell everything at factory price and that's hard to come by in online retail.

If you pay attention and do your due diligence on most of this you will get your bang for your buck if not it will be a headache for sure.

Tip for consumers:
Don't assume the part is right double check the specs with what the OEM part would be and have someone double check if you are not sure.

I have ran a garage since 1987. Rock Auto parts are usually very good. When they are not, the company makes it right, and they do so quickly. The ONLY complaint I would have is most times when I
Am buying several parts, the warehouses will change locations DURING the purchase.
This causes me to have to spend more money on shipping, and I cant understand why the warehouse would change --- mid order --?
Other than that I always have positive experiences with this company.
What they dont know, is when the warehouses start changing around mid order... I just cancel it all together, and get the parts locally
THANKS

People are wrong in saying that there is no contact company phone number, and address. It's there inside the website. I'm guessing they have no website search skills. Every purchase I made. If a part is faulty right out of the box. Returns for exchange or credit are always fast and easy. Never have I ever had a problem with my purchases from Rock Auto. Rock Auto is an independent auto parts company. They also partner with other auto part dealers that are commonly used daily. Like (Carid, Partsgeek, and other online estores). This is why the shipping is sent from different locations, duh! Before you criticize the best online auto parts store. Get your facts straight. Improve you search skills. Chill your bad attitude. Go back to school and if you don't approve. Shop amaz also known as the black market. Fake bootlegged auto parts.

I was skeptical at first reading all the bad reviews … but I ordered 2 complete struts and a new mirror assembly for my 2012 Dodge Charger. They are now installed all parts were accounted for. Only flaw I do have is paying extra for next day shipping at 10 am on Friday and it didn't come until Monday. I thought I would get it on Saturday. But I'm over all satisfied saved me a a couple hundred dollars or so. So satisfied I created an account so I will be a returning customer

Tip for consumers:
U just have to read the part number and description of part .. example : if it’s paint to match if it’s left or right and brand and if it says only 1 available and u need 2 u will have to keep scrolling for another brand with available parts ..

Products used:
I used Monroe parts for complete struts and doorman mirror.. same exact brand auto zone had for me .. they wanted 178 a peice for struts.. I got them both same brand for the same price and the mirror they wanted 168 and It was 88 115 out the door

I originally tried Rockauto.com when I could not find the correct parts for my Mazdaspeed 6. I needed brakes, and the local parts store could not provide the proper part; the rotor and pads were wrong. I went to Rock Auto, and not only found the proper products listed, I also found a nice selection of cheap, good, better, best. Keep in mind, the savings are offset by shipping and wait time to receive, however, they were still less money for a high quality part than I expected to pay. The parts arrived, and were a perfect fit. I have ordered from Rockauto.com and I have had a positive experience with every order. The website is simplistic, but efficient to find the vehicle that parts are needed for. I have purchased parts for 4 different vehicles, with zero discrepancy or errors regarding the part type. I recommend Rockauto.com, and have had a positive experience for all of my orders of parts.

I like the fact that the carry many different manufacturers of the same part. Rocks descriptions are good making it easier to get the correct part. Whats really cool is they offer kits, for ex. They offer a brake kit that has 2 rotors, pads at a reduced price.

The cons are: if you order a few different parts, they come from different places and each place adds shipping.

Tricks, you can get an oil filter for $2.5, but 4 bucks to ship, so order 4 at a time, this works well for items that are small and lite.

The good. Have used rockauto several times. I have always received the parts on time or earlier and they were as expected, dirt cheap compared to locals and were the right part. Their site is easy to use and parts are very well described and many options are available.
The bad. This last shipment was a horror. Not all rockauto's fault. I order a water pump, a fan clutch, a ckt position sensor (verry cheap), and radiator hoses U/L. The fan clutch was in right box but part was wrong (stamp on part different) not RA's fault. The CKT was right and very well priced. The waterr pump heater tube was against the alternator hard and was not acceptable as it would work loose and leak. The lower heater hose had a bend that was too shallow and rested against the a/c condenser which would rub a hole in it. To their credit this hose was the same at all three major auto part stores with the exception of NAPA who had the right hose at twice the price. And RA gave me credit without returning the hose. Great. The water pump and clutch were returned with them giving me a "paid" shipping label which I consider a big plus to their credit. I will have to wait and see if I get credit for the returned parts but I am optimistic so far that it will happen.
The Ugly. Well, I paid extraditing shipping to get my ride back on the road and of course this shot that to hell I had to buy local parts to get it going which of course cost more though not that much more if you consider all of these problems. I would still definitely use RockAuto because despite these issues they made good up til now. The biggest black eye is they have absolutely no number to call or live chat to communicate with to get the ball rolling which is why I went local for the parts. Their only number is a corporate number which is a joke.

I use this company all the time. If a part is wrong, they have no problem either correcting it, exchanging it, or giving a refund. BEST PRICES around. The only draw back, don't be in a hurry as shipping takes a week - faster shipping is too expensive for the heavy parts.

Eventually I think this happens to everyone, your car doesn't start, hard to start or sputters along barely breaking 10mph, on the road.

The first thing you think is bad gas,
Fill your tank with no result.
Which is the worst cuz now you have to deal with a full tank if you need to remove the fuel pump out of the tank.

Troubleshoot in your driveway, no pressure at the fuel ports or you can't hear the pump buzz when you first turn the key on. Yes I checked the pigtail at the tank, it had power.

You have that sinking feeling it's the fuel pump and you just filled the damn tank full of gas.

Its a 2000 caravan with low mileage, van mostly sits so i won't miss it for a week or two.
Upon investigating under the car, ugggh.hot phoenix pavement, need a blanket to off those first degree burns.

Watching countless YouTube videos.
First thing to do is get a new fuel pump.

Local auto stores the cheapest one I could find was $100. Brands I've never heard of.

So you run back to plan B. ROCKAUTO.COM. Sorry local guys, if I don't need it now, rock auto always has more selection, and better price.

Soooo many choices from dirt cheap fuel pump $30. Up to factory Mopar $285.
I went with one in the middle with one that had good reviews $65.
I've done a few of these on different cars so BUY THE FILLER TO TANK GROMMET WHEN YOU ORDER THE PUMP.
Once I reused the grommet, it ripped in installation, I spent all afternoon driving across town to find another.

This particular model is a plastic tank lengthwise with a plastic cap holding the pump in place.

Push the van on Ramps under the wheels, always block up the car and have a fire extinguisher handy.

I was unable to siphon even a drop of gas out of the tank.
Frustrated, I eventually went under the car and ripped the wires out of the fuel pump leaving a hole just big enough to get a 1/2 inch hose fed into the tank.

Plastic tank empty,, was pretty light, so I forsook the YouTube advice about dropping the tank, floor jack, undid the straps on one side, lowered the tank just enough to slip toe old pump out and the new one back in.
Getting the screw cap off want easy, I broke a couple teeth off the cap but with a strap wrench i found at a home depot, it eventually turned, (i included pic of tank in this email) put it all together.
Took a while to get van to start,
Eventually after a couple shots of carb cleaner in the manifold the engine came to life.
This isn't the first fuel pump I've changed, probably won't be the last, but at least I know a great place to get parts for my cars.
