I have been almost exclusively shopping RockAuto for vehicle parts for the last 5 years. My experience has been great! I constantly find a good choice of quality name brands to choose from and great low prices compared to anyone locally. I always get what I orderd and the few times I have needed to return parts, their return service is streamlined and simple to follow just keep original box parts came in. Really, customer needs to know what they are looking for when they buy. RockAuto isn't going to hold your hand but if you know what you want, you can find it.
I had used Rockauto.com for years but quality control has gone down hill, customer service is near nonexistent and if you want to talk to someone about customer service give it up. Got my last part from them end of January and arrived January. Couldn't install for 2 weeks and within 2 weeks the part which had to be repaired to use no longer worked. Purely insane BS now. They can count another customer lost.
On12/11 ordered grill guard for Chevy truck it arrived after dark, Carrier under time constraints does not allow for time to properly open and inspect large package like this. Took to shop for install was for ford. Returned got refund (good). Reordered, got correct one but damaged. Plus cost double for install labor b/c done twice. Picture shows damage. Do not want to have removed b/c of labor costs have already spent over $300 just for installation. Due to physical condition cannot install myself. Will be looking elsewhere for a new supplier in the future.
I ordered from them a lot. It was pretty smooth until I needed help from customer service. Like many online companies, they don't have customer service.
Instead, they have options to select, and those options don't describe my problem. I'm stuck in limbo with $100 worth of parts sitting at FedEx that I can't pick up. All they need to do is authorize package pick up. Very frustrating.
Some things work out great. Some parts make you wonder how much crack cocaine their packaging department uses. About a third of my order was missing the nuts and codder pins, strut mounts didn't fit and the camber alignment adjusters came with the wrong sized washers. When they send you the wrong stuff, you're screwed. Good luck getting a return. Wouldn't recommend anything specialty from them. Their negligence has cost me an extra 3 days without my work truck. Thank you, thou may now ingest a satchel of richards
I needed parts pretty bad, found what i needed on RockAuto. However I am out $50 on an overnight delivery fee that never happened. It's been 2 days now and no parts. FedEx won't do anything about it either. I highly do not recommend this site if you need parts right away. They rip you off for the extra fees.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use overnight delivery for an option, you will get it 2 days later. They took the $50 delivery charge and won't refund my money even the $20 difference between next day and 2 day delivery. FedEx will not help you either.

I have coils and spark plugs and grease. All were expected yesterday so I have not used any because they are not here.
I ordered front hood struts for my BMW from these guys. Part does not fit, even though the site claimed it did when I ordered it.
Returns are a NIGHTMARE at this place. You have to jump through about 10 different hoops for a refund. There's not even a phone # to contact them.
IF you have ANY doubt about a part fitting your car, avoid this place. Customer service is nonexistent.
I had ordered brake drums for my 97 E250 van over a year ago but only realized they were for an F250 Pickup when I was ready to do my brake job just recently. Due to the fact that the order was over a year old and I didn't catch it, I'm stuck with an expensive item that I can't use. The same error that says these are for my 1997 E250 is still on their website. It is also listed on my invoice that the drums are for a 1997 E250 van.
Tip for consumers:
Check your order as soon as you get it. Website orders aren't always correct when received.
Ordered a radiator for my truck with two year warranty. Had it four months it started leaking at the seams. Which is no fault of my own. But they want me to pay for shipping to get a new one on a part that was defective by none of my doing. Bad return policy. Don't think I will be ordering anything else here.
I bought a Reman AC Delco Alternator, the first one the bearing went out in 3 months, the replacement part was shipped to me and it had a bent rear casing and broke internal plug housing. I know its a reman but seriously, just requested a full refund!
Ticket is closed, I'll just let Amex handle these lazy scammers, this company is terrible, buyer beware

They shipped me wrong part and wouldn't ship right part until they received tracking number of returned part. Now shipping correct part 4 days later. Should get free expedited shipping for their mistake. Now I won't have part by the weekend when I was going to do job. There seems to be no way to contact them to complain other than write reviews
Great service and shipping costs/time.
Wiper blades are consistently bad- noisy and streaky. I strongly suspect they are old stock items and the rubber has hardened up on the blades. Cheap, but useless.
Some parts, such as USMV fuel pumps are terrible. Not only did the Dodge truck pump I got not pump fuel, it did not have a secondary filter in the regulator assembly mounted on the top of the pump module. How is the an OEM pump if it is missing this?
I've had two bad experiences with RockAuto. The first, a poor fitting part. The second, missing hardware for the brake pad install.
Normally any parts i have ordered were the right ones and undamaged. My last three orders, the first two i was sent the wrong parts and the last arrived damaged. I am not sure whats going on but its getting silly. I spend more time trying to get the right part undamaged. The best part, Can i try to straighten it out to use it? Nope.
I received all the parts I needed, but paid $130 in core charges. I brought my vehicle to a reputable medium-duty truck repair place where they saved my cores for me to return.
NOWHERE was I told to retain the new part boxes to get my core fees refunded-- that info was news to me and only introduced when I started the core return process-- only a day after picking up my vehicle but long after the shop threw away the boxes.
Now I'm out $130 and I can only get about $25 back from local recyclers. I wouldn't be out so much if this policy had been clearly stated at checkout. And without a telephone customer service line, I'm extra livid. They know what they're doing.
Tip for consumers:
If you can order comparable parts at a local or chain retailer, do so. They'll have real customer service and you won't pay for shipping if a part is mailed to a store.I paid three different charges because my parts were in different locations. I will never again use RockAuto.

I ordered some springs and struts from rockauto I have Dodge Durango, 5.7 hemi but they sent springs and struts for 3.6 after I paid a shop to $250 my truck was sitting low in the front the shop said I think they sent u the wrong parts … NO one answers the phone you only could contact them by email 3 weeks later the struts start rattling $340 +250 money just wasted…. I will never shop from rockauto again. I also have other stuff I purchased a week after I bought my springs … like lower control arms
Rock Auto Order Confirmation Order #******* Ordered 08-03-2022,
This will be the last time for to use your service sorry to say. Reason your Warehouse is 2-2 1/2 hours from my home and it takes you 8 days to get a package to me. Bad, Bad Bad. I will just use a local supplier now since your pricing is not much better than the parts store but I can have required items within hours verses days.
Thanks but NO thanks,
Steve
Tip for consumers:
Do not use Rock Auto!
I ordered a pair of front calipers. One was good, but the other leaked. The second one they sent me had no threading for the bracket mounting bolt. They told me I was out of luck for both calipers because I didn't get them installed within 30 days. My mistake for taking too long, but I think 30 days is way too short of a return window.
Tip for consumers:
Don't buy any remanufactured parts. Their quality control is obviously terrible.

I say stay away unless you don't want a core return fee. Much cheaper and easier to purchase locally. Also, I found a new Honda Starter at a discount dealer store for almost the same price. Core returns are a pain in the butt with RockAuto.
I ordered a purge valve on 15 nov 2020 with an arrival date of 20 nov 2020. The part arrived on 7 dec 2020. Almost 3 weeks late. I had to buy the part at Advance Auto. Now they want to charge me to return the part that is almost 3 weeks late. They have no customer support to contact. I have ordered from them in the past, but the true test is how they handle problems. I will not be ordering anything else from Rock Auto.
I have ordered over a few years, always no problem until now. The shocks I ordered were correct, but one shock box had been taped, when opening the bushings and washers were missing. I am very remote and not able to wait on other parts to be shipped, had to modify old parts to complete the job.
Very dissatisfied and disappointed in there quality control to make sure all parts shipped are complete.
Not sure if I will order anything else.
Great price for the part. Needed the part now so paid $12.99 extra for FedEx to deliver this past Monday. Part arrived Thursday. No customer service since everything is done by phone. No refund even remotely possible because they do no believe in customer service! Get your shipment by USPS. It will het to you sooner. This experience really sucked.

I've used RockAuto for my car parts for years but recently had a problem with a shipment and could not get any customer service. The shipment was beyond late and tracking indicated the package was damaged and shipper needed to contact them to resolve. As others mention, there are no customer service contact options if your problem does not fit within the constraints of their automated systems. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and got it resolved. It seems to me that the BBB IS the RockAuto customer service system! I continue to use RockAuto's website to find part numbers, just purchase them elsewhere. Good company in many respects, just dropping the ball with customer service.
I placed an order for a part and as soon as I submitted the order my card was charged but Rock Auto said it didn't go through cause of my billing address was different from shipping address. So after a half hr. Trying to find where I could make the changes on Rock Auto website, I resubmitted the order and same thing happened, charged my card and order didn't go through. Now I have hold on my money cause of this and still no part coming. The money they're making they should be able to hire a customer service where you can actually talk to somebody other than the cheap $#*! email only system they have in place. Will not even try to buy something from then again!
I tried to amend an order immediately after placing it. The website appeared to allow that, but instead it placed both orders and did not cancel the first. Rock Auto has NO customer service. There is no customer service line, no customer chat capability, apparently no way to cancel an order. Their prices are cheap, but it may cost more due to a lack of customer service.
I have ordered from them about 8 -10 times. Most of the time the parts work fine. I have received a few items that needed modifications to make them work. I have a few major complaints that Rock Auto should fix if they want to stay in business:
1) The lack of any method of communicating with a customer service person can be a deal breaker. Online only customer support is one thing. ZERO customer support is another.
2) I recently ordered coil/strut assemblies and shocks from them. Monroe apparently puts no padding or fixing cardboard at all in their packages. Rock Auto does nothing to mitigate that shortcoming. So, you can expect to receive bent parts in very eroded, holey carton board boxes. I had to take time re-form the bent brake line holders on the struts. I got them to work but the paint was gone and it was hard to get the brake line grommets into position.
3) Rock Auto returns portal actually has a way to request compensation for repairing parts that show up damaged (likely because one of us used damaged parts because they didn't have time to wait for Rock Auto to send suspect replacements and then sued Rock Auto for compensation). However, when I tried to enter a compensation value for heating and re-forming the brake line holders on my struts, the portal simply directed me to send the parts back for replacement. Not at all helpful.
4) Rock auto needs to allow users better filters to make IDing what to buy easier:
a) when a part (say a strut) comes in a left/right or front/back configuration. Let the user filter out all the stuff he doesn't want to see. Beyond improving the customer buying experience this will definitely reduce returns due to accidentally ordering the wrong part.
B) When a specific make/model of an item has unique installation component characteristics, Rock Auto should included that in their descriptions. For example: if you buy the Monroe shocks for a 2005 Ford Focus, you don't need to buy the mounting kit offered by Rock Auto unless you want the installation to look more like the OE shock installation. Again, potential here for better customer experience and an order return volume reduction.
Bottom line: You will usually get good prices for parts at Rock Auto, but you should consider the cost and time it will take to get the parts as well. You should consider whether or not you have the time/ability to make damaged or ill-fitting parts work. And, you have to be ok with never getting help for any issue Rock Auto does not consider worth covering in their CS portal
