The overall reputation of the company is markedly negative, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction with product quality and customer service. Common complaints include receiving defective or incorrect parts, inadequate shipping practices, and a convoluted return process that leaves customers feeling unsupported. Additionally, the absence of direct customer service options, such as phone support, exacerbates frustrations. While some customers appreciated the initial product selection, the prevailing sentiment is one of disappointment and distrust, suggesting a need for significant improvements in quality control and customer service responsiveness to rebuild credibility.

Ordered a simple set of spark plugs for a 2001 Dodge 1500. They sent me ones for a 2014. Now I have to pay for shipping to send their mistake back. They don't have a phone number to call for a simple exchange. I've learned never to buy from a company that has no phone number. Now I have to go through the hassle of sending it back. Not to mention the down time. NEVER AGAIN
I'm a vehicle collector/tinkerer. Always have a project and buy lots of parts. Tried Rock Auto once and waited ten days for shipments from two warehouses and rec'd the wrong parts. Found out the hard way that Rock Auto offers NO phone contact with customer service reps. All must be done online (their website isn't user friendly), their way, and return shipping charges are mandatory. Never again.
I bought an AC compressor for to replace on a customers car. Replaced it with the one from Rock Auto prats and the fittings for the hose connections, low side is to small. I am having to pull this one off, send it back. This is the 3rd part in a row that has not been correct.
Now I have to tell my customer he has to wait 5 to 6 days to get his car.
No customers service, they don't give a dame about us, the working mechanic that keeps them in business.
They have cost me to lose money for the last time.
I ordered rotors and didn't have a chance to put them in for a while I went to put them in and they were too big. You can't even talk to anyone at all. There policy is after 30 days no refunds. I didn't want a refund but the correct part. Their site suggested the wrong part. Terrible company. How can you do business if you can't talk to anyone. I'll never buy from them again and I'll tell everyone I know...
If you know exactly what auto parts you need or what is available, they are a good place to buy parts. BUT if you need any help what so ever you are screwed. 1989 Ford Ranger Ignition Control Module (ICM) has two connectors, they show one. BUT are clueless that there is even a second one. They are not a real parts store.
I ordered a part, paid extra for quicker delivery time, its taking longer than if i had just paid for Standard shipping
Will not use this place again.
Gave it a one star because i couldn't give it 0 stars.
I ordered a trailer hitch for my truck. The hitch came wrapped in saran wrap except for the end brackets that were completely exposed. I removed the saran wrap and found the left and right tubes wrapped in thick brown paper. I removed the thick brown paper and saw that the entire hitch was scratched and scuffed. That damage was there at their warehouse and the person packaging it saw that damage. The end brackets that were not wrapped were both chipped of paint. Rock Auto has no phone number. Your only recourse is the request a refund or exchange. The problem is they specifically say that they will inspect the item for damage before they refund your money. They deliberately have no phone number only an email. If you order from them you are completely at their mercy.
I ordered a set of rear shocks they sent me from shock rockauto sent me a return label for one shock. I put both shocks in box but was refunded for only one shock. I was not able to speak with anyone so I lost $50.00
The absolute worst. Ordered brake pads and rotors for my 2010 legacy 3.6r. Everything I ordered was "compatible " according to them. As i could have predicted, the items were for a standard legacy and were too small. No problem, I'll just call. No phone # to contact and the only option I had was to exchange(which I would never trust them again) or pay to ship back the wrong items. Are you kidding me? Avoid this terrible company at all costs!
Never again, the shipment was fast, but I ordered 12 small things like a relay, a temostat... and they sent it to me in 6 packages, when I had to pay 6 times unnecessarily customs duties and set-up costs.
Order for 400$ and additional payments of 250$
I just received a cooling fan today in which was urgently needed for my only car not to mention in 100°F weather. Not only the item which cost almost $30 to ship takes 6 days to arrive but the fan is not working clearly due to poor packaging and/or manufacture. Now I have to return the item at my expense! To add injury to insult they don't have a replacement! DO NOT waste your money, time or energy with this company. Basically I just gave them $70, days wasted not to mention paying to get a ride to point A to point B. This is the 2nd time RockAuto has provided bad service. I normally shop with PARTSGEEK and never had a issue with them and they sell the same brand parts and actually give you your full refund and dont charge you extra money for the convenience. NEVER AGAIN ROCK AUTO!
Ordered some new parts for my '93 LeBaron on 06/21/22 (Tuesday). I needed the parts in a more hurried fashion, so I chose an option described as 2 day shipping at $50 extra. Turned a $60 order into a $110+ order, but whatever, new parts quicker!…OR, so I thought. Ended up receiving the parts on 6/28/22 (Tuesday), 7 entire days later, 5 being business days. Wish I could get reimbursed with at LEAST some store credit - but RockAuto's customer support is non existent! It quite literally does not exist - no support line, nothing! Will not be back.
I placed orders with rock auto 6/13/22 for my work truck parts. Order was shipped from two locations with the first arriving in two days from USPS however the second part was shipped through DHL which still hasn't arrived as of 6/28/22. DHL tracking shows still in transit and no way of speaking to a rep. I tried to contact rock auto about the problem and their automated system sent me to DHL's tracking system which I already had.No way to communicate with a rock auto rep.My work truck has now been down for two weeks! I'm a long time customer and have never had a problem with this until now.
Enginetech will not stand behind 12 month warranty bought it 123 days ago they told me it's not returnable it's still brand new in a box RockAuto refused to return a brand new undamaged part. Cannot call, text, email anyone there about anyting. RockAuto refused to return told me to check manufacturer one year warranty they would do it manufacturer said part not returnable. PartsGeek much better can actually talk to someone on the phone
First, I recently ordered engine mounts for a 1964 Ford Thunderbird. Although their website listed them as the correct part for the car, they were not the correct mounts for the car --not even close. They were, however for a Ford FE big block motor, but for much later model years and definitely not for my application. Fortunately, they were inexpensive at roughly $5 each, but that means they are not worth returning since shipping is almost the same as the purchase price for two mounts. Since I had no use for them, and because I wanted RockAuto to know their listing is incorrect, I sent the mounts back to them. Inside the package, I included a letter describing their error in listing the part, and included pictures of the correct engine mount (that looks WAY different). No one at RockAuto took the time to read the letter or look at the pictures. Instead, they pestered me with emails about the correct way to make a return. When I responded to the emails, I received the same exact email in response. Only after several back-and-forth emailing did anyone from the company even try to understand what I was trying to tell them. You should know that RockAuto is completely online --there is no phone number you can call to speak with a representative from the company.
Next, RockAuto's shipping prices and procedures are definitely not buyer-friendly. If you order multiple parts, check the symbols that tell you whether the items ship from the same warehouse or separate warehouses. If separate, you get charged shipping from EACH warehouse, rather than on your complete order.
I've ordered parts in the past from RockAuto, and made several returns. The engine mounts were my last purchase from this company.
All the orders I bought were fake.
Can't return my purchased order.
Don't use this fake website.
Spark plug heads melted after a month
These POS want you to pay return shipping when there system selects the wrong part. I triple checked that I was selecting the right part so I know what their system is showing. Should have learned the last time when this happened. This order even had someone else's packing list in the box. 1 star because -100 star is not available. Done, done, done...
This is in regards to order number ******* in which I purchased four new brake calipers, along with a master cylinder from RockAuto on 5/14/2022 for a total of $421.47. The order required me to return the four existing calipers on my vehicle as a core fee. The core fee for the front calipers was $16.00 each and the core fee for the rear calipers was $27.00 each. Once they are received, I would receive reimbursement for the core fee. Originally, I had an issue with the left front caliper and it was mis-boxed and contained the wrong part. I also had an issue with the right rear caliper. Since I noticed no issues with the front right and rear left calipers, I decided to go ahead and ship them to RockAuto for the core return. Since I had to return the mis-boxed front left caliper, RockAuto's website offered me to ship all three together. I selected this option and printed the shipping label they provided along with a shipping list, which showed all three parts on the list. I placed this in the box as required by RockAuto.
A few days later, I noticed I received a core refund for the right front caliper but not the left rear caliper. I checked the website and it showed it had not been shipped, as I obviously did. I contacted them several times and each time, they insist that I did not properly select the check boxes to include that caliper. If this is the case, why did the shipping list that printed with the label (and placed in the box) show the left rear caliper on it, along with the other two items? They also fail to acknowledge that the personnel in their warehouse failed to bring up that there was a third caliper in the package. I totally do not understand this.
The bottom line is that they have in their warehouse one of my calipers that I was not reimbursed the core fee for. I am asking that my core return fee of $27 be refunded. The core return is in their warehouse somewhere. I have spent thousands with this company just in the past two years. This is the first time I have had to deal with their customer service. The experience was horrible, especially since they only send you brief e-mails and you cannot speak to someone on the phone. The message I took from them is that they have no interest in helping me out and they totally rely on their internet system to do everything. They also do not acknowledge problems that go on with their warehouse personnel. If something goes wrong with that…too bad. If this isn't taken care of soon, I will never do business with them again, as I cannot trust them to make things right if things go wrong, especially when it is of no fault of mine.
After reading reviews, apparently I am not alone and others have dealt with the horrible customer service. It will eventually catch up with them, especially in this day and age.
I have purchased occasionally from RockAuto for years and never had any issues, but after this experience I'll never go back. The few dollars you will save is not worth the pain of dealing with them.
Other reviewers are correct: You can only communicate with them via email and their return policies are incredibly unfair.
Purchased a starter motor for a 90' Acura Integra. Part was a little different than the original, but looked close enough so I tried installing it. Mounting holes were off by about 1/8", so it would not fit. Contacted RockAuto for a return and they asked a bunch of questions about the application, then refused to accept it back since it had some minor scratches from the attempt to install.
After numerous attempts to reach them through email, which were never responded to, I was forced to reach out to Visa for a remedy.
Here is a tip for everyone else: If you purchased from RockAuto with a Visa card, they have an e-purchase protection program for exactly these situations. Call their customer service and explain the details to them. This is the best chance you have of getting your money back.
