“Top radio show that networks with Reverbnation”

h j.
2/23/24

My name is Halshack! I'm NOT here to defend the company. It appears you folks have all had a terrible experience with the company. For that I'm terribly sorry. I don't WORK for the company nor am I under any kind of monetary arrangement. I was approached by Lou Plaia the original owner and co founder of the company back in Nov 2020 asking me if wanted to be a part of their opportunities network offering radio play for their membership. I have IN FACT done that but I'm very strict about who's allowed on the show. I come from a major label background as well as my partners so we look for only the most top quality talent. II take in about 1 to 3% sometimes more of who submits. Yes there is a canned letter that goes out to all that are denied that comes through the system. I get 1000 to 2000 submissions per campaign. Ive completed 8 successful campaigns through the company and have even scored a song from a band who did a collab with Eminem and one of his close friends Swifty Mcvay with Disaster Theory all worked on a track called Overcome. That was submitted to me under Reverbnation. Ive been working with the band to promote the track on my show and radio station on ZENO FM. I also scored a collab with Gabe Lopez and Belinda Carlisle with permission to promote their track California Blues. I can assure you folks the opportunities the company offers are real. Its whether that source they networked with to provide the service goes the full length to do a good job. I get hit with 1000 to 2000 submissions per campaign. I listen to EVERY SINGLE submission every campaign but your material has to be on par with top tier label bands from all years of history. I don't take in bands or artists who don't have a commercial viable potential regardless of the genre. If you're good at what you do you make my show. So when the time runs out on the campaigns the company generates the denial letter for each campaign for each network partner. When I go to accept, I click on each artist and send them an acceptance letter typed by me along with the canned company acceptance letter. The last campaign was about 1000 artists and I took in 37. About half of those were repeats. Ive worked with the company for 3 years now. My 9th campaign with the company starts on Feb 8th. You can find all information about me and our campaigns at Halshack.com. The last 3 years since the campaigns with the company Ive brought in 330 artists, bands, rappers and more to be promoted on my podcast, radio station, music blogs, contests social networks and much more. I cant speak for the company regarding their business practices but I can attest to the fact if you submit to my show under Bandlab or Reverbnation you may have a chance of being brought into the Halshack universe but I digress its a low probability you have that commercial potential success about you but its not out of question for anyone. We have helped 40 to 70 artists per campaign over the last 3 years. You can find me anywhere on social media or my website. I'm not here to hide or duck out. Halshack is real and a growing force in the industry. I email with the company on a regular basis but only with the people who handle the campaigns. The company was bought from Lou Plaia and the other owners about 2 years ago by Bandlab in Singapore. My contacts are very real people who are good hard working individuals. Again I cant speak to what happens on the financial side. I don't work for them. I just have a very strong very credible working relationship with their Opportunities program coordinator. They feed me lots of quality radio ready talent. And Ive built a successful show and radio station because of it. Now were building a local festival company here in NC for future starting at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro with the High Rock Promotions Nitro Notes Music Fest. We are bringing in many big names to help bolster all this indie talent that has been discovered through our efforts with Reverbnation. I hope this helps some people who have questions or concerns. I'm here to help with anything I can. Hal Jester Owner, curator, host, A&R, festival promoter Halshack Indie Rockcast Halshack.com

Reverberation has allowed someone to steal my banking information and spend $270 on their services without any authorization from me. Nobody answers the phone or even responds to emails. I need to find out any information possible about who has stolen my information for a police report!

I am writing this review because I like Reverbnation and would like to see it improve. The platform did undergo some improvements over the years but has now become stagnant in a format that is probably the least beneficial to bands. #1 main problem is, as a social media site, it does not offer anything to non-musicians. The people that use Reverbnation are mostly bands, and scams. My band has been around a few years and has a nice size fan base but none of them have a Reverbnation account. The platform doesn't offer our fans any reason to join. #2 biggest problem is Reverbnation needs to send it's solicitations to someplace other than the mailbox. It needs to have its own separate notification box because the site sends too many solicitations. Bands eventually have no choice but to stop reading any and all mail. It takes up too much time to sort through the Reverbnation "special offers." In the past we would get messages from bands, venues, and twice from different TV shows that wanted us to perform. Now if they are messaging us it is being lost in the junk pile of messages from Reverbnation wanting us to pay them for something that will never benefit us. #3 biggest problem is the chart system on Reverbnation is easy to manipulate. In my area in my genre the top three bands are always the same and not one of them plays live. Not one of them has any real fans. My band's position goes from 30 up to 4 then back and forth all the time based on what we are doing in the real world. Somehow these three unheard of bands (that only exist on a laptop in a kids bedroom) stay in the top three spots on the charts for a few years now. Clearly not playing live offers this person more time to figure out how to game the system. Lastly, when Reverbnation started it seemed like a sincere project that wanted to help bands and make a profit in the process. At first we got gigs via Reverbnation and met bands with similar interests. Along the way they became focused on making as much money as possible. Now they straight up lie in their advertising saying things like "Artists launch careers here." I have got paying gigs off Reverbnation but not a single person has ever "launched a career," earning enough money to completely support their family via Reverbnation. This is just an empty promise used to get money out of kids.

Tip for consumers:
Fun social media but don't spend money on it.

Been to Number #1 on charts 1 a couple times in Nashville music demographic, it did nothing for advancing me as an artist, writer, network songs or contacts., no emails, no phone calls, other than other artist posting on RN.

I have had some serious play / hit numbers on a couple songs, and made like $4. The one good thing, you are able to post work on Spotify, which is real. Not going away and its easier to say to people... look us up on spotify

It may be another platform to promote music, but it almost seems unknown. To those that know about it, they kind of use it. Sure. Reach like minded musicians. However, if you should pay for a crowd review, be ready for biased "unbiased" opinions. We are a metal band, and submitted to metal reviews, and of our 13 songs, only two "made the cut". We accept that. Not everyone likes it. What we don't accept, is all, not some, but all of the negative reviews (scores 1-4) were from people not in our demographic. They are listeners of top 40 music, and their comments had to do with "it not being my style" or "sounds too heavy for my tastes". For people who listen to metal and rock, our average was an 8.5. Hmmm... weird. Reverb nation, waste of money in promotions. Put your money into Facebook bumps, YouTube, or hell, just buy stickers and post em on lamp posts. Then you'll reach the "same target audience"

Don't spend money on "promotion". The only people who go there are other bands!

The free service is good for posting songs for Facebook friends. As for paid services - they adhere to the Levi Strauss paradigm - few prospectors ever find gold, but they all want pants!

Why two stars? Because they let you post low-rez songs online for free. The other three missing stars are for the age-old scam of selling fake hope to the hopeful. No one will ever see your $#*! but your friends and other wannabee success stories.

I have tried for more than a year to update a digital release distributed through Reverbnation without success. It shouldn't be hard for them to follow-up a service you've paid for.

The site reminds me of Acidplanet. Its pretty easy to set everything up, but from there your on your own. If you can market yourself than you may have better luck. Where do you go from there with it, dont know. I like the updates when your page is viewed or your someone fans you, but that's it. I can say my "fans honestly all care about my music. The crowd review seems off to me. Every reviewer sounded like Simon Cowell from American Idol.

HOW TO DEAL WITH NEGATIVE REVIEWS WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR MUSIC:
As a top ranking pop artist when it comes to negative reviews on my music, I know I am not alone. Many of the music superstars in today's music faced very negative reviews from the public during their inception. But with help from the record companies who had faith in them, they have become multi million dollar world famous superstars. Rumor is that Rod Stewart got a lot of negative reviews on his music during his inception. But now almost everyone I know likes his music. I worked all day to create the song with the richest synthesizer quality so why would it get bad reviews. What the heck? Maybe Santa Maria which really emphasizes Spanish or Latin turned people off. With a bit of racism in this country. Songs with Spanish titles don't tend to do very well in the mainstream music market and can be controversial. Maybe it was something else. I know through live performance, social media interaction and through the music industry there are an awful lot of people who love my music. Hundreds of thousands to be exact. At number 3 on the Pop music charts in Salt Lake City and 14 in the Western United States, somebody likes it. Salt Lake City a city of about 7 million, it is hard to achieve that level of recognition. But I have worked hard and have used the internet as a vehicle to rapidly spread my popularity. I recorded at Spirit West Studios where Barry Manilow and Snoop Dog also recorded. The family who owns the studio thoroughly enjoyed working with my music and are a permanent part of my fanbase. I know I am at home in their recording studio anytime. They were responsible for doing the music of the 2002 winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. In fact of the hundreds of thousands of people who like my music, I've only met 3 people that didn't like my music. Plus the obvious novices on Reverbnation. And that's ok because my fanbase is worldwide. I was writing music long before Reverbnation ever existed and before there was an internet as a kid. I have spent hundreds of hours in session with a professional voice trainer as I stretched myself to the professional limit. I was a member of Sonicbids for a long time but finally cancelled my artist membership because Sonicbids is a spreading cancer some say and they are right. Serious artists like myself don't have time for this kind of nonsense, we're in it for the long haul. Profiteering off the backs of improvised artists who can't ever get ahead because the company intentionally pits against their music. But when people at Reverbnation give my music nothing but negative bias reviews when I pay for reviews I know I have been scammed. Because actual fans never heard my music in the paid review and it was obviously office staff or other artists who reviewed my music, not actual music fans who are crazy about my music. Hate to say it but my music should have easily scored at 8.5 or above in the reviews because there are very few artists who can compete with my level of world class quality. I know this from experience and extensive research, as I'm always researching the industry. Some promoters have said they are intimidated by my level of professionalism. This ruins the good faith I had in Reverbnation and makes false advertising seem apparent after I have had a profile on this spot for over a half a decade. Obviously these people are in love with hard rock music, on drugs or something. They wouldn't give Lady Gaga a good score. I fear Reverbnation is following in the same footsteps as Sonicbids and will also sink their boat like Sonicbids did if Reverbnation does not quickly change its way. There are to many artists and not enough fans on Reverbnation. I think I will cancel my paid membership go back to the free forever membership and sign on with a site like Airplay direct where radio promoters would bend over backwards to have my world class music on their radio rotation. Reverbnation, where they Never answer the telephone. There is almost no clear line of communication with promoters. Not a good thing. In a real professional music world, communication between artist and promoter and face to face teamwork is frequent. With three decades of expertise in the music business I can tell you dishonest people don't last for long in this business. My understanding is Sonicbids had to file for bankruptcy and they can no longer afford to have a call center. So contact is by email only. People who want my money answer their phones and can reflect a good score on the Better Business bureau without a paid membership. They will also make a sincere effort to secure me a good record deal. I've seen numberous companies sink the ship in this business because they cannot learn the one lesson. Honesty is the best policy. Those who don't play by those rules in this industry sink fast. I'm just saying Reverbnation needs to straighten up their act or learn the hard way. That said I'm going to join a site where their actually serious about promoting my music. Because I know I have what it takes to make it big.

Tip for consumers:
Save your money. If you are a good music artist join a site like Airplay direct, and tunecore where you can actually connect with music industry professionals. Life is to short to a victim of music industry profiteering. You need to have a successful music career now. I suggest CD Baby. They have a 9 to 5 call center. While they don’t actually promote your music. It’s a one time fee and they make it easy to get your music on digital platform.

I am constantly dissappointed in the user interface. The processes are not intuitive and the error messages are so vague, as are the ways to fix any errors.
Seemingly simple tasks just take forever.

I am not sure what they really are offering artist. Anyone can google "submit music" and find plenty of places to submit their music to free. When you use the email venue feature nobody opens it unless they are familiar with you and have booked you before, and in that case you don't need to contact them through the site.

Tip for consumers:
At best it makes a decent website to direct people to

When I first registered I did so as a "Studio" then found out I couldn't upload music unless I made an artist account as well. I did so & they kept pushing to promote my music. So, I signed up for the free trial. I then cancelled the trial within the given time frame. Well, apparently it "didn't go through" so I was charged $35. I was "credited" the $35 to use only on reverb nation. I highly disapprove of this website! It's not only a waste of time & effort but they steal your money! DON"T USE REVERBNATION!

Greetings: To whom it May Concern:

A company without loyalty to its longtime customers and neglects service issues, make it difficult for reciprocal communication cannot survive. I recently paid for 2 campaign promotion for a single track of a scheduled CD release.> the track was to be the cornerstone of my promotional efforts. I paid $49.00 for one promo. And $70.00 for the second one, I quickly discovered the track according to Reverbnation was corrupt only after I discovered the track could not be played on my profile page or the promotion campaign which is ludicrous. After several e-mails, back and forth explaining and re-explaining the track didnt work. They got back to me to inform me the seven-day promo had ended and theyd fix the corrupt track. They posted an announcement that my song Wastin' My Time had charted at #9 in the Bronx NYC's 2nd largest borough. How could this be? I wondered, the track I was promoting could not be heard the entire duration of the promo campaign. I cancelled the 2nd campaign and I will cancel my Reverbnation account if they do not fix and show "Good Faith in their dealings with me as an artist and longtime customer /producer. I will also use my influence to assure that the Federal Trade Commission, Social Media outlets, BBB and New Yorks Local Musicians 802 AFM receive a detailed composite including my story and that of dozens of others posted here that corroborate my experience with Reverbnation.

This is of NO BENEFIT to any musician songwriter performing artist other than getting your stuff seen and heard by others just like you that are looking for the same exposure you were looking for. So it is a inward circle. This is not a valuable promotional tool. Take a look at any of the acts/talent reverb page and you will find that the overwhelming majority of any one acts fans or any one that has interacted with this act/talent on their particular site will be primarily other musicians songwriters etc. This may make you feel good about yourself but it does nothing for the promotion of you product. FB and a web site with a little creative work on your part will do far more for you especially if you are a performing artist. I personally am part of a group that has a fair amount of success in our region of the country and I can honestly say that Reverbnation has done absolutely nothing of any benefit as for bringing me a larger fan base other than other musicians. Bar owners and other regional venues and event promoters may have a reverb page but even they see just how un effective it is and they stop interacting with it. I am not telling you not to join Revebrnation just understand what it is and what it won't and can't do for you

This site has great widgets that you can use on your own site, or does a decent job presenting your material if you don't have your own site, but when it comes to paid services is a ripoff. First, if you sign up for something that auto-renews, and you cancel mid-month, they stop the services right then instead of giving you the full month's worth that you paid for. Second, the opportunities seem to only ever go people who have done whatever they've done to accumulate ridiculous amounts of fans and there's no guarantee the promoters ever actually listen to your material when you submit. So, have an account there but don't bother to pay for services.

This company does not have a phone number to contact them directly. They do have a feedback bar that after you offer feedback they tell you you are not who you say you are because they do not recognize your password! Its bad enough you are already logged into your admin panel with the same password, so your in your site already, but they still say you are not who you say you are! So they're asking for feedback they wont let you give them! WHAT A JOKE THESE PEOPLE ARE! Its all good unless you have something to say.
