Full product review
March 29, 2020

I normally do not post such long reviews but as QR-code generator only responds through reviews, i have no choice but to review them here.

I give a company reviews based on 3 criteria

1. Product
2. Tech support
3. Trust and. Ethical use of product and payment

1. Product
QR code initially had a good product however many competitors have caught up with them and from 2019, I would rate them as out of the top 10 code generators. That is based on 2 factors
A. Their baseline QR code generator stops working after 14 days if you do not pay them. This is where all their competitors score higher marks.
B. Their QR code design is boring and has not caught up with competitors in making the data generator simpler for the target audience nor attractive for the user and this may suggest they may have lost the creative edge. If you google them, you will not find them being listed as any of the top QR generator apps. This is of course no surprise.

2. Tech support
*A must for any tech company is on how efficient they are in responding. QR code generator is very slow in their response especially with regards to payment matters. I had only received 1 email reply through sitejabber and this was because I had posted a review on them. All my emails for support had been left unattended beside the earlier email where they asked me to pay.

Upon purchasing this product on March 19,2019. I was never contracted other than for 2 push-marketing adverts. On March 20,2020, I was contacted for payment. As their terms indicated that they would send an email on payment one month - so that you would either cancel or renew with them. Should you decide to proceed from receiving their email, it will be an auto renewed payment unless you told them to cancel. This email never came and if you review them on sitejabber or through trust pilot, you will come across similar cases of them not sending this email. In this aspect, they have infringed on their own payment terms.
*Their standard payment respond to this is that they cannot be held responsible for spam filters and they are sorry you did not receive this email however please pay. However given that they were able to send emails on invoices, I do not think this is possible. Like many users whom received this response, we white wash our email and found nothing. QR-code generator was also unable to provide any evidence that they have indeed sent this payment notice thus raising suspicion on their credibility.

The worst part is that emails sent to them over 3 weeks are left unattended. It was only open posting a review on site jabber did they respond and I am sure they may do the same after i do a review here. In 2020, how can a tech company be so inefficient in replying? Only automated responses on payments are sent.

3. Trust and. Ethical use of product and payment mechanisms
This is where they truly failed as a brand.
Facts
QR code generator has a a score of 1.9 on sitejabber based on 109 reviews and about 4 on trust pilot. This shows that reviews on them are mixed.

On site jabber, most of the complains are on their unethical use of auto renewed payment methods without honoring their terms of payment
*Sending a letter of invoice 1 month before billing

On Trust pilot, we can see users happy with their product of use within the 14 day free period or paid users that get their year's use.

However, my personal experience on their ethics is as follows and i warn users on their unethical payment matters.

* I had cancelled my card in the year 2020, as QR code generator could not make a deduction, below is a true illustration of what followed.

20th March, 2020, I received email on payment from
QR code generator to which I responded that March I was not given email on payment. They apologised but still asked me to pay which i declined and asked for an explaination citing that it is unethical.

20th March- till date, no reply from their support team on this query. I had sent them about 6 emails of which none were replied

2 auto generated emails are sent on payment remainders. My understanding from users on sitejabber is after this a reminder will be sent to the user's home address demanding payment and collection by debtors of the amount pus 8% in interest and legals fees and higher each time the letter is sent.

29th March, i sent a review on site jabber which they responded on 31st March again citing that they are sorry to hear that the user(me) did not receive their payment notice and this may be due to spam filters and etc and this is not their fault. Once again, they are able to send any other email but surprisingly this does not get through. Which is why i rate them very low on trust and ethics.

I leave them with 1 star as follows:
(30% weight)Product score: 5/10
(30% weight age) Tech support: 0.5/10
(40%)Trust and ethics: 0/10

Final score: 1/5

*I have all the relevant emails of the above incident. Please also check trust pilot for my review.

BEWARE! Unethical, Appalling Service.
February 11, 2020

To any potential customers RUN! Do not give qr-code-generator.com the time of day or any of your payment details.

To any current customers GET OUT NOW WHILE YOU CAN! This company WILL bill you in advance for an entire year, on your renewal date, with no email reminder, and will not offer any grace period or treat you like a fellow human.

I've been on their Premium Plan for a few years on behalf of a client of mine but this year my client did not wish to renew. I made a note to myself to cancel as soon as I receive a renewal reminder, but it did not come. On the renewal date I received an email informing me that my plan has been renewed and that I must complete a bank transfer. I contacted the company within 7 days letting them know that I wanted to cancel my subscription but was told I "must pay" their whopping 450 euro renewal. I have since closed my account and not used any services that they are attempting to bill me for, but they are still pursuing me with payment reminders.

I received another "Urgent" invoice a week later and again replied, informing them that I received no reminder by email as per their terms and asked what my rights are. Again, I received an avoidant response and a statement that they are "no longer able to provide further assistance over this matter", so basically their support team is refusing to provide any support.

Contrary to their countless claims in the comments, qr-code-generator.com did not provide me with a renewal reminder 30 days prior to my renewal date. I have their email address whitelisted and have searched my junk/spam emails several times. It was not sent.

Any other company would show a human side and admit fault or try to negotiate with customers, but don't expect this with qr-code-generator.com

After doing a bit of research, I discovered that qr-code-generator.com has treated many other customers in way of failing to provide written notice for a pending renewal and then refusing to cancel a subscription if a customer has contacted them within 14 days of their renewal date. I have lodged an enquiry with the ACCC and reported them to the Federal Trade Commission to make other current and potential customers aware of the risk of dealing with this company.

UPDATE: Looks like I received their generic bot response. The email they claim they sent was definitely not sent and simply caught in my spam filter. I have emailed qr-code-generator.com asking them to state the outgoing email address they used to send the email and forward me proof of sending. They have not responded.

Funny how I've received their invoice, all reminders to pay the invoice, and all communications from them, including their spam newsletters, but I never received this 'renewal reminder' they allegedly sent.

Also funny how they publicly state I'm welcome to chat with their support team further. FYI, in private they're refusing to answer any questions or cooperate at all.

I paid for a year of the service; now they won't go away
June 22, 2019

I wanted to promote my business, so I went looking for way to do it - make my customer life easier with easily accessible links and ways to pay at event. So, I paid for a year of the service from QR Code Generator. However, I found that what they offered didn't work for me or my customers - no one ever seemed to use the QR Codes. They added no value to my business - a disappointment, but there was no point crying over it.

I stopped using the codes actively and pretty much forgot about them.

However, when a year passed and they asked for 60 EUR to cover the ongoing subscription, I wrote back and said that I wasn't using the service and if they'd reminded me about the renewal I would have cancelled. They said, pay us.

I said, I don't want to use the service, I haven't in almost a year. Pay it, we can help you use the codes better, they responded.

No, I don't want to use your service - so I closed the account, but the emails kept coming. And now a physical letter threatening debt collection.

I paid for a whole year - I used the paid service rather than just hoping to go for a free ride - but, I didn't gain any benefit, so why would I carry on? They have had their money and they didn't need to do anything for it.

If a customer hasn't been warned about a re-sub - and I hadn't - I expect a grace period to say I'm not longer interested. I had paid them before... they got their money. I checked spam and junk and found no evidence of the reminder they claimed to have sent me. I didn't need to white list for such a mail, as clearly there demands for money were getting through just fine... which would lead me to believe they never sent a reminder at all!

If they spent more time on adding actual value and promoting their help for customer using their product DURING the subscription, rather than harassing dissatisfied customers AFTER the year has passed... maybe there would be something to recommend. However, all I have now is a headache, a threat in a letter and a bad taste from the poor (no, shocking) handling of this issue.

I cannot recommend this customer. I cannot recommend their customer service. Stay clear.

UPDATE: It has taken a month of emails and a Trustpilot review to finally get resolution and a withdrawal of the demand to make payment for a renewal I was not reminded would happen.

QR Code Generator "have now cancelled the renewal of your contract and credited the invoice as a gesture of goodwill." - is sufficient; but this review will remain as a reminder to other users that you are expected to calendar and proactively react on any engagement with this supplier, else face the prospect of hassling emails and a written threat of "debt collection procedures which incure even more cost for you."

Forewarned is forearmedbut, ensure that you whitelist their emails and perhaps inform them you have done so to establish an auditable trail of evidence should the reminder never arrive and you find yourself in the situation I faced of demands for money.
