The premade food was so-so in my opinion but the pre- portioned food to be cooked by me IS EXCELLENT! I absolutely love it. I have been using for approx 1 month. I tried 3 other delivery services prior and had late deliveries, wrong deliveries- no issues w/ purple carrot! I have NEVER followed a recipe before in my life. Here is a photo of last nights fettuccine w/ artichoke hearts.
This was my 1st purchase through Purple Carrot reason being I have a elderly vegetarian mother that is no longer able to cook. I thought this would be great however the 1st dish had a small u shaped hair in it and the 2nd meal had a 5 inch gray hair in it. Sadly my mom was not able to eat her dinner. After speaking with customer service they stated there is no account with my info? Weird as I was charged but they have no record?
I see in previous reviews people complained of late deliveries and rotten food. I have NEVER had a problem with that. Deliveries are always on time, produce is extremely fresh and shipments are complete. I was never missing an ingredient. Also, my experience with customer service was very positive. They are friendly and helpful. It's very easy to suspend a delivery or cancel on the website. Most of the food I like. I have tried many dishes and there was only one I hated. Most are tasty and filling.
The issues going on here seem unreal. Customer service issues is something I can't speak on because I have never had to contact customer service. Because there has never been an issue. I am convinced that the people who are complaining about the meals or flavours of meals, are sheltered white people who have never had a real ethnic meal in their life. I'm no chef, but every meal I have ever made from PC (a LOT of meals), has been nothing but flavourful and delicious. Even when I mess up or over/undercook something, the flavours are still great and the only issues are my own mistakes. The one minor issue I ever have to face is getting produce that doesn't last that long so I either had to make that meal the very same day I get it (which isn't always ideal) or throw out the rotting produce. The one major issue I have is the cost. These are a killer on my bank account, but that's how much I enjoy the food and service is that I pay it anyways, almost weekly but occasionally I will skip just to save money. I work full-time from home and it's such a convenient thing to have wether I make a meal on my lunch break, or I start dinner right when I get off. I adore that they offer breakfast, lunch and snack options. I rarely add additional items but I love that it's an option. My mom is not a vegan, but she does like vegan food, and I have her try my dinner almost every night I make one and she most of the time curses in enjoyment. She is obsessed with my meals and it's probably her biggest encouragement to go vegan.
Super happy to finally see an entirely vegan meal prep service on the market. I have used this service for about two months now ordering the two person menu for just myself. The food is tasty. There is plenty of food as each recipe usually lasts me three or four meals (just cooking for myself). I find they offer a really good variety, too. The Purple Carrot is good for people trying to eat vegan that don't know where to start.
Great if you want to expand your vegitarian cooking skills and repertoire, eat at home more often, and eat healthy and delicious meals that don't cause animal suffering, and not have to go grocery shopping. Recipes are pretty easy for someone who loves to cook and portions are just enough. It's around $11/meal per person - a good deal for the quality/complexity of recipes. My wife and I have been subscribing to The Purple Carrot (dinner for two people three times a week) for four months and plan to keep going for the foreseeable future.
