“Mice Infestation”

I rented from Public Storage in Joliet, IL. First of all, they advertise that you get the first month free, which is a lie. It's only for certain locations, even though they don't advertise this. I wasn't able to remove my belongings at the end of the month because I had just closed on a new home. I removed my belongings from the bin on the 2nd of the following month. They will charge you for a full month, no matter if your belongings are there for 2 days out of a month. When I got my furniture home and examined it, I noticed that there were mice droppings in the bottom of my loveseat. I contacted Customer Service and spoke with a supervisor who was no help at all. Do not rent from these people! I will never rent from them again.

I have been unable to access my storage space for over four days due to a broken elevator and nobody will call me back on it

Tip for consumers:
They force you to add insurance even when your homeowners probably covers it and then can't get it removed when you do have it already covered

His storage is designed for you to lose your things. They can raise your rent at any time other storage raise your rent once a year this storage can raise your rent 3to4 times or more a year. They say it's because of the market but yet if you look, they have storage of the same size for cheaper rates there is nothing you can say to them for them to help you they gonna say you signed the papers. This company have no compassion for people who are going through a hard time I would suggest going to extra space storage who only raise your rent once after the Covid I lost my job and my client that let me too get this storage place with everything I have but every that let me too get this storage place I started out at $388 now I am at I started out at 388 now I am at $558 if you don't want to lose your memories, don't go to this place

Tip for consumers:
They say it’s because of the market price why they raise your storage but in the same location there’s a storage my size for $150 cheaper I pay $558 They say it’s because of the market price should be a law to protect the consumer only allow them to raise the rent once or twice a year. Couldn’t find anyone to help me to relocate my thing, so I have to keep them the or my things going to auction the company doesn’t care about consumer been a difficult time of loss

I was with Pubic Storage for years and do you think I was rewarded for being a good customer? Only with rates that are like bring held up by gunpoint. I'm paying 125 now for what these clowns were up to 350! Every February expect high increases by these common thieves. I wish these common criminals never bought the property off Shurgood. Avoid PS like the plague if you enjoy keeping your money like me.

I would not suggest this facility. I made a reservation here for my daughters Toyota Camry to be stored for the summer while she is home from college. I called Public Storage and was told there would be no problem with the car fitting in the 10 x 20 unit. Well, as it turns out the gate to get in is not 10 feet wide. It is only 7.5 feet wide which means we can't get the car in without damaging the side mirrors.

I understand completely that mistakes happen - HOWEVER - they tried to charge me a $29 "non refundable fee" for giving me wrong information! The only reason we made the reservation is the false information that we were given over the phone. We disputed it with our credit card company and also reached out to Public Storage multiple times via phone and email so it has taken a lot of my time to fix their mistake. I spoke with a man named Brisco today who made no apology and just said he would send it to collections (?!)

So, to confirm, they gave us completely wrong information and are trying to charge us $29 for their mistake? Look elsewhere to rent if this is any indication as to how they do business.

Once again James, at the Johnson Creek location, has been rude and argumentative. As a paying customer I find his attitude unacceptable. He has zero people skills and should not be interacting with customers.

9/24/22 I get a 10 by 15 for $275.2/23/23, five months later, I am told it will now cost $375. I complain, they tell me to read the contract. Obviously I am not staying - but I would never have gone there if I had known they would increase rates by nearly 25% in six months! DO NOT USE PUBLIC STORAGE.

Unless you are planning on using their services for six months or less, this is absolutely not the place for you. Their staff at the facility were very polite and professional but the organization is both unethical and non responsive. Once you exceed 6 months expect significant increases in monthly rent above their current referenced website rates and if you bring this issue to their "WeCare" department, instead of responding to the issue I received a second notification of another price increase which will go into effect in the following month.

The above is not just my opinion. There is actually a California code: BCP *******. 2 - Business and Professional Code - Charging an amount greater than the current price.

I'm glad to find that I'm not the only one to realize the harmful practices of this organization. Lack of empathy, deceptive advertising, and abusive practices like charging customers a full month when due to their own arbitrary policies is not possible to get access to their facilities after hours. The 3 hours of service most expensive of my life. Customer service unreachable after 3 hours wait. When they finally answer, they'll treat you as a no one.

Definitely, won't recommend such a service to be the provider of your storage needs.

Help yourself and avoid headaches when working with them. They are not a decent business.

Do not use. They raised the rent significantly after I had my things in storage. When I moved out on the 2nd of the month they sent me an email saying I owed rent for the entire month. The next call I got caim from a collection agency saying they would accept half a months rent. I will pay them when they send me a bill for the 2 days I rented the unit that month. The unit I had was rented again about 2 days after I moved out.

I dont recommend storing here. This location has thrown away my items before, when a se unity breach happened and they took it upon themselves to believe it was "just junk". I was moved then into a new multi unit grouping, where I was locked access from many times, once for a few weeks because of "security" concerns.

I tried talking to the manager, recieved excuses for not being present to unlock the door accessing my storage (during normal business hours), and lecture on tone... which I did have because after years of being locked out and having my stuff thrown,, you bet I'm upset. That call resolved nothing but a "if you don't like it then you can go ahead and vacate".

When I tried to contact the corporate office, nothing. They don't answer their support line. After 3 email attempts I finally got an answer, very unprofessional response, but beyond that, still not addressing my concerns.

I will be vacating and found a better company to store with.

Tip for consumers:
There is no support so heads up.

I had to move my stuff into storage a couple of years ago to Public Storage. I no longer need this service, but I just now noticed that I was paying $51.00 when I moved in and now I am paying $75.00. I am not a math major, but this appears to be a 47% increase. Nothing has changed, I'm renting a 5 X 10 room with no heat, no A/C, and no maintenance. As usual, trying to communicate with the corporation has been difficult. I'm very dissatisfied with this service, and hope to never deal with them again.

I have a unit in Manassas Va. At the Sudley Road location. I received an email informing me of a $52 monthly rate increase! Unbelievable and seemingly illegal. This facility does not police the grounds. I am constantly picking up nails and screws. Also, the paint on many of the doors is peeling and they have chosen to just paint over the peeling paint. The doors are also hard to raise and lower and very squeaky. And they have the audacity to stick me with a $52 rate increase. Renters beware! I will be taking my property from this facility ASAP!

I rented a storage unit and I wasn't able to go to the storage for over a year. Due to taking care of a love one. When I returned back to the unit to move my belongings out. Rats had done ripped into my belongings, urinated over my mattress and left rat droplets over everything. When I went to report it at the office the staff told me Im sorry we can't do anything because you declined the insurance. Seriously! I'm livid if I had known that this place was like this I wouldn't have never placed my belongings there. Paying 100.00 a month and always on time and I'm having to get rid of my belongings that I placed there and all I get was I'm sorry it happened to you. I have pictures of it if anyone wants to see them. I do not recommend them. If you have valuable things that you don't want damaged find you somewhere because public storage is not it.

BEWARE: Heartless company during hard Covid times when people are struggling. If I could give a negative infinity rating on this website, I would, because that is even too good for them! They sold all of my family members' things on 11/24/20 and she struggled and just made a payment on 11/04/20, and Public Storage didn't have the decency to notify her in time, so personal things like photos, financial information could be retrieved. She has been with Public Storage for up to two years, and this is how they treated her in hard times. No loyalty whatsoever! Yes, material stuff can be replaced, but not family photos, mementos and priceless heirlooms (her dead grandmothers' $10 earrings, they hold sentimental value), they sold them too! Vultures! Personal, financial, medical and previous client tax/financial information she was trying to protect that was stored there is now in the hands of who knows who, because they don't even tell you who they sold her items to. So that's a breach! It sounds illegal selling personal info like that anyways, and most people would get locked up for that. What kind of person(s) Sell and Buy a poor struggling single mother and her children's things anyways? Do you take pride and joy in that? Sickening! A Scrooge of all scrooges, that's who (Hedgecoxe, Plano location main culprit in this matter, they are the greedy ones who sold her stuff). You sold the children's things too. The children have nothing now, and I mean NOTHING, all of their childhood things (baby clothes, toys. Etc.) are gone. One of her children is a budding artist, and you sold his artwork without his permission, that's illegal too! You sold the children's innocence to a stranger too!. What kind of evil are you? What are they (Buyers) going to do with innocent children's pictures anyways? Public Storage doesn't care and I bet they didn't even ask them either. I cringe at the thought of these children's pictures ending up on the dark web or something. I vomit when I think and read of how you've been doing this type of business practice over and over again for years and getting away with it. Where is the justice system to protect these poor people? Just look at the
Reviews here on this website, it doesn't lie, just sickening, Public Storage and their mysterious heartless buyers crushing life after life. Just gutter people! You should NOT be in business. If any of her identifying personal, financial, client, children or medical information gets on the black market, or dark web, you and your buyer will be held accountable for theft and privacy health information violations to the highest degree. She better not start seeing scam calls and upticks of scam mail or any indication her rights have been violated, because we will know who got the ball rolling. People listen up, go to Uhaul or anyone else for that matter, stay far away from Public Storage. Don't get drawn in by that $1 deal either, it's how they bait you in. Then their fees go up and up, piling on top of each other quickly so you can't make full payments and get behind on payments, then there's late and all kind of crazy fees you can't handle and when that happens, they sell your stuff. These folks here have no heart! Public Storage and Mysterious Buyer whoever you are, GIVE her, her things back, you know who she is. You are in the wrong and I will keep bringing attention to this matter on all social platforms until this is resolved and so others don't have to go through this mess. How do you sleep at night? Exactly, just what a cold hearted person would say!

Do not use this company. I just received notice they are going to increase my rent by 25% on August 1st. It went from $170 to $212. I could understand 3% or even 5%. But 25% is just highway robbery. We all need to band together and stop these predatory corporations from taking our hard earned money.

We have used Public Storage for years.
They have consistently raised our rent, multiple times a year. So often in fact that we had to get a different unit inside the same property to stay on budget.
Then more recently we needed a much bigger unit because we were moving, and since Public Storage was the only local place we had no choice but to get a different one - though at a different property. Way overpriced for a 10x20, but during the pandemic you have no choice and are lucky to even find a space.

While moving we had to find yet another storage unit and found one at an Extra Space location close to where we were moving to.
When we completed our move and vacated Extra Space we asked if they could prorate our rent because we had just paid a week earlier and they were more than happy to, knowing that during this time they would quickly rent the unit again.
When I asked Public Storage for the same consideration, since I had paid my rent ONE day before vacating, they denied the request.
The managers at Public Storage locations are bound by corporate and cannot do anything to make a customer happy. The corporate office will just ignore any requests you make of them.
Public Storage is an exceptionally greedy company that will use any excuse to raise your rent and get out of reimbursing you anything.
Avoid at all costs. Go to any other competitor and support local storage units when possible - at least they will care about their customers instead of fleecing them.

I have had 2 storage units at Public Storage for a year. And its been a pain in the butt! They started charging me for insurance when i told them i already had renters insurance, AND BY THE WAY, IT IS NOT MANDATORY TO HAVE INSURANCE, yet it is a very good idea. I had been asking them to stop taking these payments out of my account and it went on from Sept, 2020 through april 2021. And thats $15 for each storage a month on top of them going up and down with their prices without telling you. I called the property non stop and they gave me the district managers number and she didn; t call for 7 months and my account was constantly charged, so i would take my card off auto pay for that reason. If the norm is to not steal, then who do they think they are by stealing money from me every month, so 7 months later the manager finally called and was rude. She only gave me $60. At the same time they were taking the insurance payments they charged me late fee's. So as i am waiting to get reimburssed they steal some more. None of the bills were ever the same they went up, up and up with out notice ever. After 8 months they started closing at 5pm on weekends and 6pm on weekdays which was perfect considering i could never get there until after 5, they also increased the rent by $39 on each unit. This place is just full of surprises. What kind of company does this kind of deceptive trade practice. They have locked me out of both of my units even though i paid the rent minus the late charges and i will not pay them

Cant make the payment on the 5th of the month due to fraud in bank account. Called corporate they asked me to call the store where im currently have my unit and speak to the Manager to waived the $20 dollars late charge, i went in person respectfully brought her to Ms Karen att. She said pay the reg amount and let me bring it to my managers att and will called you and let you know the outcome. Last know she called to tell me they rejected when i have never been late. What a unprofessional crew PUBLIC STORAGE HAVE. IN ADDITION THE UNIT IS FILTHY AS HELL I HAVE TO BRING IT TO THE MANAGEMENT ATTENTION TO SEE IF THEY CAN CLEANED IT AND FIX THE LIGHTS AS WELL. IN CONCLUSION YOU PAY FOR CHEAP PLACES AND YOU GET $#*! IN RETURN.
Respectfully,

Colorado Springs Public storage on Astrozon Rd has been the WORST experience. In my 15 years of service, I have been using dozens of facilities and last month was the 1st time I used public storage( newest facility in Co Springs) and from there things seemed off. The Guy Robert who is an apparent manager has the worst customer service and lies to customers and forces them the buy the locks at their facility. The 1st locker we used in a crunch, had to unload a truck and I was told my personal lock was approved. When I went to pay they said I had to purchase their lock to use the facility... this is not supposed to happen according to other Public Storage Representatives. During our move in town, we needed a second locker where Robert told my wife it was their policy and she had to purchase their lock AGAIN! We were told by the employees that the facility access was 1st 24 hours, then we were informed that it was 10 PM. During our move in, we went to get our childrens beds after work and we accidentally got locked out. We called the AFTER HOURS NUMBER and was directed to a corporate person who claimed he would leave a note at the facility and ensured to us that they would secure my daughters mattress with the note showing it would be after 5pm. Robert called my phone that afternoon about one of my reviews, said my wife was lying but credited our account for next months rent... I wont be there. During that conversation we talked about the lockout and I would be there this afternoon to pick up the mattress. Once we arrived, the women staff gasped and we were informed that they threw it out. Then, Robert said he remembers our conversation about being locked out but doesnt remember the conversation about the mattress- problem is, that was the whole point of discussing being locked out I told him then he backpedaled. Once they showed us our mattress in the trash, he acted as if we could still use it saying it's not that wet or bad it's just damp. He again called my wife a liar and myself a liar and then said what I was claiming was bull$#*!. Once he said that I obviously was heated and said their facilities staff were rude and trash and filed a claim for my daughters mattress. We now have to purchase a new mattress. The one lady said they make people come back in and purchase their cylinder locks and remove their personal locks all because Robert would prefer the cylinder locks. When I told him over the weekend for about 3 days a gentleman left a snowboard and a pingpong table in the hallway. Robert said they got rid of that too, however I was there when the guy made room his locker and secured it. He is a habitual liar and a thief. Forcing people to buy locks even when they have their own is a dishonest and disgusting way to take from people in need. Terrible that even corporate we called after the incident ( some guy in CA) said that they would not have been able to leave a note and basically the after hours number we called was useless and was basically a buncha smoke blowing. I am shocked that such a large company would treat their customers in such a way. I will be raising the issue with my Garrison Command on Fort Carson about these issues and to make soldiers aware. Terrible place. That is our mattress in the picture at the facility. THANKS A LOT PUBLIC STORAGE! NEVER AGAIN!

Do not trust these people with your personal property. Their employees steal it and their insurance policy will put the burden on you to prove it. Do not put anything of value in these storage lockers. It's not worth it. Further corporate is rude and inconsiderate. Find an alternative.
