Powells-Plumbing

I called Powells Plumbing because I was selling my home and needed a septic tank inspection and cleanout prior to closing. After the inspection they called and told me that I needed a lot of work done to pass the inspection and they would send me an estimate for the work. I did not receive the estimate and called back two more times over the next five days, each time asking when I would get the estimate and was told by the office staff that I would just have to wait. They were rude on the phone and acted as if I had no right to ask any questions. When I asked for just a general ballpark of the cost, I was told that the owner of the company said he had no idea, even though the inspection and presumably the report were already completed. At one point the staff answering the phone implied that my estimate was being held up because I had mentioned that I was going to get a second opinion. At this point I then found out that they had already pumped the septic tank out and charged me for it, even though I had never agreed to any price and had been waiting several days for my estimate. When I complained about this, I was told I should have asked and that I had verbally agreed to have that work done, even though I had not. I hired another company for a second opinion and their inspection cost $250 less than Powells did. This second company told me my septic system passed with only two minor repairs needed, which cost me a total of $125. I finally got an estimate from Powells a full week after their inspection stating it would cost $3600 to get my septic system to pass. I believe this company knew that I was on a deadline to try to close my house and took advantage of that, trying to get me to pay them to do unnecessary repairs so I could finish in time. Not only that, their staff answering the phones was rude and unhelpful. I would never recommend Powells Plumbing to anyone.
