The bad outweighs the good
November 22, 2022

I'll start with the good:
The all-in-one poster is convenient and reasonably priced. I am okay with paying the $9.95 cost (not sure it's worth $19.95 [the "regular" price], especially when paying $5.95 for shipping). I have purchased this space-saving poster for roughly five years now.

Now the bad:
When it's time to renew, the company doesn't just send a renewal notice/reminder, we received a "Suspension of Coverage" that included what could happen if we didn't renew "today!" After placing our order at the beginning of the month, mid-month (last week), I received a call from a representative, telling me she needed to verify our information. She tried to talk me into purchasing more, but I declined and said that all we want is what we ordered. Today, I received a call from someone who asked to speak with the owner. I asked who was calling, she identified herself as "Joy"--but didn't identify the company. I asked what it was regarding, and as soon as it was clear she was a solicitor, I asked that she remove us from her call list. She said she didn't have a list and that it was regarding an order we'd placed. I asked if she was from Personnel Concepts--she hesitated and then confirmed. She then proceeded to tell me she was calling on a recorded line and that she needed to confirm our information. I told her that someone from PC had already called and did that. She said she needed to do it again and apologized for multiple calls. I obliged and responded to her questions about my name, email address, and our company's address--she specifically asked if that was the correct billing address and then started talking about additional (poster) information and then a cost of something around $200. I said we do not want anything more than what we'd ordered and that we do not want to pay $200. She said that no one wants to pay the amount, but that we need the additional information. I said we would get whatever else we need from online. She said we cannot do that and that we must order the additional information. At that point, I put her on hold and asked one of our owners (an attorney) to speak with her.

For anyone who hasn't seen this online (from the State of Washington, L&I website):
"The following posters are available FREE from the issuing State of Washington, federal, or other agency. Contrary to some advertisements you may have received, employers aren't required to purchase posters from private companies. If you feel you have been misled by advertisements claiming posters must be purchased, you may file a complaint with the Washington State Office of the Attorney General at: atg.wa.gov/file-complaint."

Again, the poster is handy, but be wary. It's a shame that Personnel Concepts doesn't just make a good product and try to build on that reputation. Based on my experiences over the years and from reading other reviews, PC tries to make money by misleading businesses into purchasing (unneeded?/unwanted?) products following an initial order. I will have to give this more thought next year to determine if the borderline harassment is worth the convenience of the all-in-one poster.
