Insulted or discriminated against
May 5, 2024

COMPLAINT Panera Bread
On May 2nd, between 12:00pm and 1:00pm, I will pick up food and drink orders at Panera Bread Restaurant. I will help my friend to pick up 2 orders and 2 food and 2 drink order. My friend wanted a cold one, but supervisor mistakenly order a hot one, I ask the supervisor to change it to a cold one. I didn't say anything when the big hot cup changed to a medium cold cup. Supervisor just said that she wouldn't be happy next time. I took another single large cold cup and when she saw it, Supervisor came over and said it couldn't be changed to a bigger one. I said this is Supervisor of another order, she said she couldn't change it. I said it was another order, and she said I lied and slandered me. I said you could check the order, but she couldn't find it, so I asked a friend to give me the flyer and showed it to her. She doesn't read it. If you don't listen, can I tell your manager that it's a lie? She said the manager was not here, don't explain, go away, go away, no need to say any more. I told her repeatedly but she wouldn't listen, discriminated and slandered me, and that's why I got angry and I turned around and left before blurted out say "$#*!".
Supervisor ran over and said that she still didn't understand what she was saying. There was a Chinese man who spoke English next to her and started to help her. I said, do you know what's going on? You intervened and said that this is a quarry and not a place for quarreling. Then I replied to him that you knew what was going on and discriminated against Chinese people and slandered them. You ignored me and only helped the tyrants do evil. You don't know how to stand up for the Chinese people.
After I left the restaurant, I went to pick up another order. There were guards driving a police car next to the store. I picked up another takeout order for some reason. I went to the parking space and the guard car drove back to Panera Bread. I put the takeout at the door of the restaurant. I put my things in the car and went to the entrance of the restaurant. Two guards came out of the car. I wanted to go in and talk to the manager. A tall male guard said, "You can't go into this restaurant anymore. Can I talk to the manager?" The other male guard, who was fatter and short, wouldn't let me speak. He scolded me and told me to get out of here or we will deal with you. I didn't have the ability to say anything at that time. These two guards were guards in the AMC mall at Bayside.
I could only go to the parking space and speak English. The Chinese man came out and spoke English first and then came to argue with me in Chinese. I just said you don't know anything. Don't scratch your head. Then he argued with me and asked me where I was from China or Taiwan. I said Chinese. There is no such Chinese person as you and he wants to hit me. I just say you try it and I ignore him and left.

I'm here to have enjoy and fun, not to be insulted or discriminated against.

Tip for consumers:

insulted or discriminated against while ordering food for my friends and me. I forced out of the store and the supervisor made the wrong order. He told me to leave without correcting my order

Consistency is lacking!
January 14, 2024

I would like to first compliment the team at the Orchard Lake and 14 Mile Road store in West Bloomfield. They go above and beyond to satisfy the customers, greet them with enthusiasm, and recognize them and if and when there is a problem with an order, they go out of their way to make it right. Amber and Jennifer and Sue the manager, are amazing in all respects mentioned above. With that being said, I have been to the Panera in Commerce Michigan on Haggerty Road, the one in Troy off of Coolidge, and the store in Farmington Hills off of 12 Mile and Haggerty Roads. I generally do not complain but it happens over and over again that I need to order an order of toast - bread - as I do not like to waste what we cannot eat before it goes bad. The store in Farmington Hills, is consistent and well aware that one order of bread is designated as 2 whole pieces - enough for one sandwich. This is across the board, regardless of what kind of bread is ordered - tomato basil, ciabatta, cracked pepper focciacia, etc. Well, it seems that this known fact is not a well-known fact, as it is almost ALWAYS a problem when visiting the other locations. I have to now always check my bag to be sure that they have given me not two halves, but two pieces- a top and a bottom! I am writing today, as this is my fourth run in with an employee at the Commerce location, who when I ordered 2 orders of ciabatta toast only gave me one piece of bread. I returned to the counter and was very confrontational when I explained. She finally grabbed the bag and threw another piece in the bag - all the while saying that two pieces of bread only means a top and a bottom! This has been the case in at the Farmington Hills location too! Shouldn't there be a common training practice to know what constiutes an order of bread? Like I said, I am all about giving compliments to those that deserve it, whereby the team of employees, whether day or night, in West Bloomfield are stellar, but it is beyond the pale to continually have to explain and almost fight with employees who do not know or are misinformed at other locations. We spend a lot of money throughout the year at Panera and will continue to do so. We love the quality of Panera, and that consistency does not change, the dining room experience is wonderful at all locations, and for the most part, the employees are courteous and friendly, but I finally decided to let you know, that something that seems so insignificant as a bread order, has reached it's limit. I will go 5 miles out of my way to only visit the location in West Bloomfield so I do not have to get in a harangued conversation with one of the other employees again. It would be appreciated that you train your employees to know the menu and not get into a disagreement with a patron. That is poor customer service! Thank you for your time and attention!

Wow
September 21, 2023

Wow;
I am truly forced by all that is respectful to food, to add my two cents.
If you are interested in eating heartburn on a charred bun, then go to Panera bread and order their stake and cheder sandwich. It will be one of the most agonizing meals you ever experienced.
The bread, in its pre-burnt state, is good. So, in my opinion, the owners of Panera bread should pay high praise and higher wage to these poor shmucks who stay up all night to ensure the freshest baked bread when a store opens for business. At the same time the owners of Panera bread should be arrested for the molestation of the good bread, that they allow by employees who should be hot-patching roads instead of preparing food.
On 9-21-23 at around 8 pm, I caused myself agony by eating a Panera bread sandwich, an airline sized bag of potato chips and drinking iced tee that leaves chunks at the bottom of your cup so that you and I are assured that Panera does not use concentrate.
Here is how you can experience such culinary disaster at home;
Go to Costco and purchase their fresh baked, square, Kirkland artisan roles (delish).
At home take out 2 of the roles and run a clean, sharp knife through the partially separated middle of the roles to separate the two haves completely.
Open your refrigerator and take out fresh, whole, free range, horse radish, fresh, locally purchased, Spanish onion and whatever crumbs are drying out at the bottom of the container that you use to hold deli meats and cheeses. Ensure that you have enough crumbs so that when squeezed together, they make a fist full. If you do not have enough crumbs, ask to get aged crumbs from a neighbor that you hate.
Thinly slice the fresh, locally purchased, Spanish onion in a circular pattern.
Lay out the roles, center side out, on a 300-dollar exotic-wood cutting board. Grab a fist full of the deli compartment crumbs and drop chunks of the tacky material indiscriminately on to the roles, leaving some arias covered and others not.
Throw a few slices of the Spanish onion towards the roles, attempting to get some on to the roles.
Peal the fresh, free range horse radish. Using a 50-dollar grater, grate approximately a hand full (about the same amount as the deli crumbs) and cover the slices of Spanish onion.
Using precut, industrial grade aluminum foil sheets, fold together the bun haves and unwrap. Place unwrapped sandwiches on to a 50-dollar cookie sheet pan and slide it into a preheated 450-degree Fahrenheit oven. Bake for 20 minutes. Pull out the faux Panera sandwiches, allow to cool enough so that you will not sue yourself for a burnt lip and enjoy a heart burning, hard, charred sandwich just like the ones you can get from Panera.
To fully enjoy the experience; take out 15 dollars from your wallet, tear the money up and throw it in the trash.
Now, would you not drive out of your way, at 6 dollars a gallon, for that?

Terrible Service and Leadership Presence is missing from Manager Jorge Cruz
July 11, 2023

I went to Panera at the Carmel Mountain location at before 4pm and ordered dinner for my husband and son (wanted to pick something up for our long drive home to Ramona) so we can eat it right after Taekwondo practice which was from 6-7:30p. My experience was below expectations from the moment I walked in. The cashier was new and I asked for a Kid's Deli Turkey. She rang me up for a Ham Sandwich and then proceeded to input in register no ham, no condiments, etc and add roasted Turkey. I reminded her that I did not want a Ham sandwich and that I wanted a K Deli Turkey but instead of calling a Manager to fix it she decided to adjust the order manually. I did not check to see if the sandwich was made correctly and when we opened the sandwich up the kid's sandwich was Roasted turkey and the bread slices were 3x3. It was the smallest kid's sandwich I've ever seen and they had used the ends of their sourdough loaf (which later they explained that the bread never rose and that's why it was so small). What was so disappointing is the fact that the cashier overcharged me for a kid's sandwich because of her mistake and then to open the tuna sandwich and have basically a spoonful of tuna. It was watery mayo and there was barely any tuna. I live 45 mins away from this location. After Taekwondo practice in Poway, I was willing to drive to Carmel Mountain location because Hailey offered to remake the sandwiches (again for me) and make sure that I was satisfied. Jorge was not there yet, so she said she would let her manager know about the situation. Fast forward, I come in at 8:15p and Hailey was there at the front registers, waiting for me. She went ahead and took care of me and put my new order in. She even went above and beyond and made sure to input extra scoop of tuna (in ensure that there was tuna in the bread) and also offered me a free drink. She went to get her manager, Jorge Cruz to help her comp the meal at the register. He was reviewing the order and went through it. I was surprised that he didn't introduce himself and avoided eye contact and did not want to engage with me. I provided him feedback about the cashier (earlier) needing more training and followup and he just proceeded to tell me that he wasn't here earlier so he doesn't know what happened. The experience turned for the worse, when he had to remind me that he wasn't charging me for the extra scoop of tuna (when he was) and he never acknowledged that the cashier double charged me for my sandwich. I mentioned that I'm not even asking for the difference back and he was not interested in talking with me and continued to tell me that he hopes that I have a nice day and continued to repeat it over and over. What was alarming was that he rolled his eyes and raised his hands (shrugging) and proceeded to tell me he didn't care if I provided the feedback to corporate. I've worked in many retail stores as an associate to District Manager level (Food and Service industry) and I know everyone is focusing on bringing more customers into the store but Jorge Cruz should not be customer facing. He was not genuine and I walked away feeling like I should be thankful for his staff remaking the sandwiches. Is Jorge going to pay me the 45 mins of gas to drive back and my time and that my son didn't get to eat dinner until 9pm? I'm not sure if his communication and customer interaction is at the level of a leadership position in your store. I'm requesting an apology from Jorge Cruz. Instead of resolving the matter, he made me never want to spend my money at Panera (ever again). His service was far below expectations and I'm sure he's a hard worker but his behaviors needs improvement. I hope that you will consider implementing stronger training hours established and a higher level of leadership presence from Jorge Cruz. Jorge did not even comply with the ACCURACY MATTERS policy thats on the receipt.

Coffee Subscription Glitch
October 6, 2021

I signed up for a free trial of the coffee subscription, being a professional driver and coffee addict- I loved the idea of having access to coffee for a flat rate. After three or four cups of pure disappointment where each cup was cold or just watered down and undrinkable no matter how much creamer or sugar added… I canceled and left a 3 star review saying I love the idea and I'd definitely come back if they get better coffee. That was 9 months ago. I have discovered that there was a glitch that they didn't cancel my subscription. It's on me that I didn't realize they were charging me $10 a month, but I do go to Panera for food bc it's close, quick and easy for work, so a charge a month didn't raise a red flag until I saw it today and said wait a minute, it's been a while since I went to panera, why is there a charge here? I realized it was a subscription fee…groaning, I do a history search and see how long it's been that they charged me. I tried to cancel immediately… and it GLITCHED- a small brief pop up said "OOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG PLEASE TRY AGAIN" but it disappeared so quick… I thought "oh wow, this is kinda shady, if I hadn't caught that, they would have kept charging me AGAIN"…so I did try again to cancel, twice more before it went through. Screen shot with the tiny pop up to show how they were getting away with not canceling when you try to. No doubt this happened when I canceled before. I called to see what they would do about it, since I CLEARLY never used the coffee subscription and it was $10 for 9 months…. They refused to refund. Okay. That's unfortunate. They will never have my business again and I will share with all of my coworkers this info. Being a professional driver for the top two rideshare companies in America… we have a community that's closer than most realize. We have Facebook groups, local and national, quite a few apps to stay in touch with each other, and we meet and hang out especially at the airport waiting for rides, share tips and pointers while waiting for rides. Being a leader and senior driver, my advice is respected. When I tell other drivers where to go for a good oil change rate or tire repair… word gets around. When I recommend restaurants for customers and talk about my favorite places in the city, promoting businesses… my voice is heard. And while $90 is a drop in the bucket to some, it's not to me. That's two oil changes. That's two tanks of gas. To take my money without giving me anything in return? When I ASSUREDLY canceled the service within the same month, didn't even wait out the three free months…. Angers me beyond words that they have a convenient glitch, great way to keep people from canceling. Thanks reader, for sticking it out and reading this novel of a review! Be safe out there and don't put up with less respect than you deserve!

Tip for consumers:

Don’t subscribe for their coffee.

Betryal of the customer
July 10, 2020

I am Panera bread client for almost 20 years... Which is saying I was most of the times satisfied and kept coming back, but you guys lost me now.! My last two orders were curbside - portions of my first order comparing what I used to get while dining in the store was a joke and I said to myself I am never going to do it again, but because Corona is getting bad I did make second curbside order, which was family feast - I clicked on the email offer and followed description of the family feast by the picture and also text: one full Greek salad, one full Caesar salad, sup and baguette, all described as family feast for 4-6 people for $23 plus tax... I saw that amount for the offer it was fine, so I clicked on it and ordered... when we got home with the order, we realized we got one salad, sup and baguette - missing another salad we called the store and spoke to manager who very coldly said that he can't do anything about it and keep saying "I'll give you a number for corporate"... SO corporate - betraying clients this way is so LOW.! You offering family feast for $23 - I got one small salad and quart of the soup and baguette for it.! Are you delusional.?!?!?!?!? You have no heart to betray clients this way... yes I saw later on the receipt was for 1salad, but this is very well thought through, when you seeing in "details" during making order - two salads, soup and baguette/ showing picture of two salads soup and baguette, make your choice step is showing checked boxes for Greek salad, Caesar salad, sup and baguette... when you're checking out, then you don't look at the details anymore (you saw them already three times) - you look at the price what you about to pay, because when I was making order I saw already 3 times that I am ordering two salads, soup and baguette...! You take people for fools saying you get full Salad and I got "full salad" which was size of the half salad what you get with Upick2 (which is half off your regular salad.!) Do you think people are idiots...? Would you feed your family of four to six with small salad and one quart of the soup and baguette.?
We feel betrayed paying almost $25 for small salad, quart of the sup with the bread... Not just because of that, also because of the way we were treated, and because you think you can trick and betray your customers this way - you are losing two of your customers of 20 years...!
I am sure we are not only ones feeling this way. I see your reviews and I am going to add another very very very bad one everywhere I can.!
