“Perfect match”

71 Chevy Nova barn find needed some touch up here and there and the match to 40+ year old original GM citrus green was amazingly accurate. Let it dry for a week and hit it with polishing compound and a rotary buffer and it blended together seamlessly. Thanks. You guys saved me from a complete redo paint job

“No refunds or replacement product - no single stage as advertised.”

I received my paint that was supposed to be single stage, received base coat. Tried to get it replaced and was told I needed to buff it. Did that and in doing that it only removed the paint. Further proving it was base coat. Explained that and no more responses. Also this company is only a reseller and not the manufacturer. Every email I was told they needed to speak with the paint supplier.

Stirred/shook paint: Colour nowhere resembles supplied paint codes. Because paint codes were beyond 2005, company claims no responsibility. Response is automated and notes no replacement, return or refund shall be made. I was better off covering the spot with a piece of chewing gum.

NO REPLY OR RESPONSE - Sent twice. Just an automated note: Your paint code is beyond 2005. Even if it's incorrect, no attempt will be made to correct the issue.

Reason I chose this business:

Bought from them before with great success. I guess a professional handled my order that time.

Took days for them to get back with me, then a paper mill of emails for the wrong product delivered. It was never resolved only shuffled around. Then no response. Every email was a different person responding.

Reason I chose this business:

They are one of the few who supposedly sells single stage paint. By definition that means the paint dries to a gloss finish, maybe light wet sand and compound.

After touch up paint, prior to clearcoat, i tried sanding p5000- after 10 seconds, the touch up paint ( 4 layers) pealed off completely. I tried again, this time no sanding, just ran a wet towel with alcohol on it to clean ( after a full 1 day I let it dry). The alcohol ( just isopropyl Alc/) dissolved the whole base paint. Thats not what i expected. It should hold after a day( its california here- temperatures at around 80 and its nice and dry so paint should have cured). Disappointed.

The paint pen I ordered is terrible! It dries up so fast & the tip is hard & not like a brush at all. I had to keep pushing down on the pen & wait a while for it to dispense more paint. It looks terrible on my car.

Nobody answered my initial email / complaint.

Satin steel gray metallic was very thin. Wouldn't cover gray primer after 6 coats. It was like water with a little gray food coloring. Because I was able to coat their card after 6 coats, they claimed that it was a perfect match and wouldn't make it right. I already stated that the color wasn't the problem but it was the consistency of the paint. No reply. I won't be buying their paint again.

I was asked to provide my GM paint code. I received the paint and it didn't match. There was very little paint in the pen. When I contacted them about the issue, they asked me to send them back the miniscule paint they gave me to fix my scratch.

I ordered an AMC 39A Matador Red 2 oz touch up bottle from Paint Scratch. What I received was laughable - if I hadn't spent $37 all in. It was so dark I could have used it on a black car. After looking at their non refund, no return, no make it right "guarantee" - and all the negative reviews on this forum - I ordered from a competitor of theirs. Automotive Touchup nailed it. Perfect match. See the photo I attached. Paint Scratch, Ruth Bock and Colin H. Need to close up shop and stop screwing people.

I just wanted a dark Green for my motor home. They had the dark forest green on the web site for my motor home. I did not need a perfect match, just something to paint some trim pieces. I ordered it and when I received it, it was a silver mist with a hint of green. Figuring it was a simple mix problem, I tried to reach out. Multiple emails and phone calls. They will not pick up the phone or return them When emailing, they just keep saying they mixed it right even when I showed the color form the website was not anywhere close to it they again denied it. Dave as it has on the email string appears to not have a clue or any shred of customer service skills. Going to keep fighting them until I get my money back

I lost the color code on my Audi, so I took a best guess, and ordered from Paintscratch.com. Very poor match, which had me 2nd guessing my best guess. Tried to contact via email, no response. They have a form to complete if the color doesn't match, apparently this happens often? I ordered the same color coder from a different online vendor, and it was a perfect match. I highly recommend not to use paintscratch.com, but the other online "direct" supplier.

Seek another online retailer. I had good success with automotive touch up direct

Purchased aerosol base coat but didn't use it until after the 75 day return deadline. When I went to spray it a couple blobs came out and then it went dead, no pressure in can. I contacted PaintScratch and all they would do is offer me $2.50 discount on a new can. On top of that they expected me to pay $11.95 for shipping even though my original order was over $100.

Ordered touch up paint a month ago. They sent paint for model year 2018 vehicle, mine is 2016. After over a month explaining and sending pictures of the issue and the paint color I need, they just ignore my emails. They responded a couple of times but took zero action, and I still do not have the paint. Beyond terrible customer service... I would avoid using this company at all costs.

Just in case they read this and decide to actually help, my order number is *******.

You ordered paint for a 2016 Forest-River Motorhome, Light Sand Gray 338196K. Our site clearly states BEFORE you order:

==============
Make sure you know your Forest-River color code and are not ordering based on the color samples shown which may be inaccurate. We cannot guarantee a color match for Forest-River colors because we do not have the color chips. More...
In most cases our match for Forest-River colors is excellent, but we simply cannot guarantee it without the factory color chips. The color(s) shown below are approximations and may not be accurate. There are no refunds for these colors, so we recommend ordering a small quantity of paint to check the match first, or send us a part for custom matching. We will not remix this paint even if the color does not match.
==============================================
This warning is given several times on our site BEFORE you order. I believe you probably did not order the correct color code and all we can do is send you what you ordered. We sent you the 2016, not the 2018.

I was painting the roof and trunk and needed 1C5 Silver Strata for a 2001 Toyota Prius but they sent 1C5 Silver Graphite which was never a color for a Prius that year. Their return policy basically gives them the right to give you anything and there is nothing you can do about it. I will still complain to the Better Business Bureau and State attorney general to help other people though. Oh well. I will get the correct paint from Automotive Touchup whose 1C5 was perfectly correct when I painted the hood 2 years ago. I mistakingly used PaintScratch this time. The pictures show how terrible PaintScratch did on the roof and trunk and how perfect the hood was from their competitor. I wasted my time and money dealing with PaintScratch.

Tip for consumers:
Go to Automotive Touchup instead.

Site says there are "numerous warnings on our site about ordering pre-2005 colors. We do not remix this paint or offer refunds, even if the paint does not match". Basically they are telling you its not going to match but they will gladly still take your money. Walk... no run away.

I really wished I had read some reviews before ordering. They sent me clear coat and insisted, that was what I had ordered. I can get clear coat for a 4th of what they charge. And their spray tips suck! (horrible spray pattern). They just keep sending lame emails, rather then just send out another stupid can, morons! Now we can all go on every site we find so when some one Google's "paint scratch.com" they will get an ear full. Not very smart business people,...

What did you order? Some customers do just order clearcoat. Most know what they are ordering, but occasionally, we get a disgruntled customer who thought "clearcoat" (which is a clear paint designed to go over the actual basecoat), should match their vehicle. Clearcoat is just, well clear and has no color in it at all. In 20 years of business, we have never not sent out what a customer ordered.

Ordered there single stage paint in butternut yellow. The paint laid down like 2stage paint, no gloss, and weak color. The vp of the paint company said I probably should have used a k1 or a k2 single stage paint. But paint scratch doesn't offer any. A complete waste of time and money, I should have paid more attention to the reviews and wouldn't have bought anything from this RIP off group.

Thumbnail of user collinh17

I apologize your project didn't turn out as you planned. But single stage paint (the clear is mixed into the paint) needs to be polished with rubbing compound to shine properly. Please take some time to read our directions as this is clearly stated numerous times.

A paint match failure rate of 40% shows their quality control is exceptionally bad. Over the prior three years I have purchased touch-up paint for five vehicles, three worked out but two were unacceptable. When you spend hours in surface preparation, sanding, primer, color coat and finally clear coat you expect a generally positive result. My experience with PAINT SCRATCH automotive touch up paint products is a 40% failure rate. Missing the color match by 5 - 10 shades is totally unacceptable to anyone.

When you get in touch with PAINT SCRATCH employees their resolution is to send you a new can of the same color coat. Are you kidding? With a 40% failure rate why would I trust their ability to do it correctly a second time, pulling another can off the shelf made at the same time or with the same method as before? I just can't trust them to give me the correct color and shade they advertise to sell.

Seriously! Currently I see of 35 different reviews 29 individuals gave them one star, that's 83% of their customers' think they stink!

Thumbnail of user collinh17
Nick H. – PaintScratch Rep

So if I read your review correctly, before this order, only 25% of the paint matched, correct? So you chose to order again? I'm wondering if this review is from a competitor. If you want real reviews, go on Amazon where a customer actually has to buy the paint and the reviews are genuine. This one is not.
The only reason people leave reviews on sitejabber is because they couldn't follow our instructions.

Providing the factory color code, I ordered 4 cans of single part metallic tan spray paint. A gold color, dull paint, easily damaged by rubbing alcohol, was supplied.
PaintScratch (paintscratch.com) refused to provide any help or to fill a suggested new order.

I asked a simple question of whether they have and match trim paints and all I received were rude responses saying that I didn't give them enough information to answer the question. I wanted to know if they had them in general, not whether they had it for a specific car. Literally the response from them when I asked a second time was: We do not have the resource to answer your question.

Really? They don't know whether they sell something or not?

Avoid them - there are so many other touch-up paint sites and companies to choose from. Don't support these guys.

I ordered a specific color to match my vehicle, they obviously keyed it in wrong because they sent me a color too dark. I would never have ordered the paint they sent me because my truck is not that color. After numerous emails back and forth, them asking me to send a sample of the paint color to see if it matched their color code. Really? Yes it would match their color code, they filled the order wrong. It was a 2 oz sample bottle that they charged 30.00 for. They could not provide basic customer service, just emails saying to send a sample back. I really wish I would have read the reviews before I ordered. Never again will I use this sham they call a business.

Thumbnail of user collinh17

I apologize you had a problem with your paint. However, in order to help you, we do need to see a sample of it. This policy is available to read before you order and in your confirming email. This tells us if we should mix a formula variant and also, if you ordered the correct paint.
You can still send the sample in so we can compare it with our standard to see what the issue was. We have the best customer service in the industry!

What a joke! I put on 10 cotes and the color is off and still doesnt cover the primer. Could use a full can and still not cover. I get better coverage and color match going to ACE Hardware and buying it. Waste of time and money. Thanks for wasting $100, I can do that at a bar! Second pic is the color I ordered.

Blame damaged products and late delivery on UPS. They use standard PPG paint that you can get locally for a ton less. Don't bother.

I am curious where you can purchase custom made PPG paint for a "ton less"? If your package was damaged by UPS, we immediately send out a new order at no charge.

Business History

PaintScratch was founded in 2000 by Collin Harris, before most people even knew shopping online was an option.

Collin accidentally dropped a pair of skis on his new car and they left a deep paint scratch on the hood. After trying a number of autobody shops, Collin was dismayed by the extremely high prices they were quoting to touch up the scratch. And that was just the shops that actually could track down the color - several said they were unable to match the formula for his paint. Collin thought that there just had to be a better solution out there.

Earlier in Collin's entrepreneurial career, he had spent time buying, repairing, and selling used cars in the Bay Area of California. He developed a great relationship with a local paint shop there, San Leandro Color, and relied on their expertise to formulate and mix paint for him.

Fast forward to the skis being dropped on his new car and no good options to fix the scratch, and Collin had an idea: let people buy inexpensive touch up paint kits online, mixed with the exact paint to match their vehicle. Collin reconnected with his friends at San Leandro Color, worked out the details, and the first orders were shipped in April 2000!
