Do not use this company Total fraud.
March 16, 2023

This company is a fraud. They advertise as a used furniture store with good quality. The Knoll office chair I ordered arrived in a box that had ripped and the chair parts were jostling around in the box. It cost $499.

But I was willing to be open minded and I opened it and put it together. I immediately discovered that the base had essentially been spray painted to cover up major damage because when I put it together the spray paint rubbed off all over my hands and clothes. The wheels of the chair are squeaky and very beat up. But, the Knoll chairs are amazing. I immediately sent an email to their customer service on that same day asked for a replacement chair since I still wanted the chair, just not one that was as beat up as the one I received. So, I sent the request in using the instructions provided on their website, and went on with my day.

I never heard back.

Then a few weeks later, I got up from my chair and the seat came right off and left a sharp screw exposed which snagged my pants and stabbed my leg. At this point, I wanted the refund versus a replacement. I then contacted them again (called the number and submitted a form on their website). On their website, it says the purchase is money back guarantee. It also says free returns. It is right on the top of their website. I still didn't hear back.

So, yesterday, I submitted a complaint to the BBB. Today, I received an email from office chair at work saying that they had been trying to reach me for weeks and I didn't respond. There is no email from them in my inbox nor spam. We then went back and forth on email using 2 other email addresses (my work email and another personal email that I have) since they said my yahoo email did not work.

Hi.

If you want to return you have to pack the chair in the box it came in and email a photo of it.

Or if you like a 30% refund.

It has been almost 3 weeks. The original box is gone at this point since I put the chair together the day it arrived. It was a huge ripped box and I put it out with my my recycle bin. Why would I save it?

The emails are written in poor grammar and with mistakes. What do they mean by "or if you like a 30% refund"?

There is no person to speak with. When you call the number on the website, it simply says to send an email.

This is the signature line of the person who has been emailing with me today:

Evelyn Kinsley

Since I don't have a box anymore, I have to drop it off at the location. This is her email: "The receiving is open from 11 to 4. Please come Tuesday from 11 to 4 to return. Jan is the manager. 1109 Virginia St suite d Elizabeth, NJ *******, USA"

So they want me to drive to NJ between 11-4p to get the refund.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. It would be 1 thing if they said that their chairs are very used, perhaps damaged, but priced accordingly. You get what you pay for, so that would be fine and informed as a consumer. But, that is not what they say and they have policies for full money back guarantee and refunds.

Dishonest, unlawful, gamble
December 7, 2022

Don't even try with the response claiming I'm not a customer. If you want to buy a chair from these people, it's your money, and it's a gamble. Look how many negative reviews are out there. They push you to cusrev.com... I can't even get in there and I'm a paying customer. Read the terms and conditions carefully. They will use them to weasel out of every option possible.

I purchased my Steelcase Leap chair back in October of 2021. I've had this chair at work for years and know it very well. When it was shipped to me, the package was destroyed and the chair broken. Their T&Cs state that I should "refuse the shipment," which I would have done, except they did not require a signature so the chair was dropped off when I wasn't home. When I contacted them, they made me submit a claim with Fedex; to which, if you've ever submitted a claim, the store needs to submit and/or verify the claim; you can't do it as the consumer. After much back and forth, I finally got Evelyn Kinsley (Seemingly the only person who works there) to send me a replacement. They did not send me a new seat, they sent me a stripped down part of just the exact piece that was broken. Good luck to any normal person finding the specialized driver bits and/or instructions on how to strip this chair down. Steelcase doesn't even consider it repairable at that point. Seeing as I was potentially unhappy, I wasn't offered the ability to leave a review at cusrev.com.

It's now one year later. I'm having an issue with the recline feature. The chair sticks and doesn't recline or reset cleanly and gets stuck. I've tried to grease the chair multiple times and contacted Steelcase directly. I sent Steelcase a description of my problem and a video of my problem. Steelcase said the chair is defective and that it needs to be replaced under warranty, however, I would have to go back to where I bought it (I'll get to this shortly). I contacted Evelyn, provided her all of this information, and asked if she could help with a warranty claim. I was told that a warranty claim was already submitted. When I inquired as to what claim (since I had not submitted any warranty claim), she stopped talking to me; obviously because it was a bold face lie, and/or there was a claim under my name that is fraudulent. Now, she may get on here and respond, stating that the warranty claim was the damaged shipment, but it is very clear in their T&Cs that "warranty does not cover damaged caused by a carrier or transportation of the product". Indeed, damage from the carrier would be covered by shipping insurance. Since the chair had insurance, and Fedex refunded them the cost of the chair, and I didn't get a full replacement, that's insurance fraud. Now they're not honoring their warranty, which is dishonest and violates their Terms and Conditions.

I contacted Steelcase and they also note that OfficeChairAtoWork sells chairs on the "Gray Market" and provide inferior products that Steelcase can not verify and/or support. I've now tried to contact OfficeChairAtWork five times via email and left a voice mail over a 3.5 week duration. I've had no responses. I get the automated response that they received my email, but they will not respond to me. The last email I sent verified that they admit to guilt for failing to honor their warranty and providing false and fraudulent advertising as it pertains to their warranty.

If you want to take a gamble and get a chair here, go ahead. But be forewarned… You don't get this much negative publicity if you have good customer service and good products. The chair is great, if you can't afford to get it directly from the manufacture, then maybe look for a different chair.

Tip for consumers:

Read my full review. Read other peoples reviews. If you can't afford to buy directly from the manufacture, consider a different chair.

officechairatwork.com have deceptive sales practices. They are scam artists!
December 1, 2021

1) Searched amazon.com for Cyber Monday deals on office chairs.
2) One of the Amazon reviews mentioned Herman Miller as a good brand.
3) I searched Google.com for "Herman Miller Chairs"
4) One of the Google search results was "Last Chance | Up To 65% Off - Herman Miller Aeron Chairs"
5) I clicked on the search result link which took me to https://officechairatwork.com
6) This professional looking website appeared to be having a Cyber Monday sale (although it did not specifically mention "Cyber Monday". However, each product page showed a countdown timer reading "Last chance! Sale ends in 00 DAYS: 05 HRS: 39 MINS: 13 SECS". Appearing to be a countdown until the end of Cyber Monday.
7) After researching many product offerings, I eventually selected a chair and proceeded through the purchase process. Note the time was now Monday, November 29,2021, 7:48 PM EST (same time zone for both of us). Most likely no one was around to process the order.
8) Nowhere on the site does it give any indication that the products are not new. It only becomes evident if you dig deep into the company's "Term of Service" to find Term "13 Conditions", which reads "All our chairs are refurbished and restored unless specified otherwise." Unfortunately, I only read these terms after finding negative feedback from previous customers of OfficeChairAtWork.
9) I promptly started to request a refund by emailing the following message to *******@officechairatwork.com
"Re: Office Chair@ Work Order Confirmed #*******; Please cancel this order for a full refund. It was not at all clear that these items are used. I just thought you were having a Cyber Monday sale. Regards, ### ####." This email was send Tue, 30 Nov at 1:27am (middle of the night, about 5 hours after the order was completed)
10) I received the following reply: "Hi. The items you bought are not used. Thank you for choosing Office Chair@ Work. Have a wonderful day. * Customer Care Team Office Chair@ Work *******235 https://officechairatwork.com". This reply surprisingly arrived just minutes later at 2:23am.
11) While it is technically true the order included 2 accessories for the chair which are likely new, I was actually referring to the used chair they were selling.
12) I replied: "Cancel my order!"
13) I then received: "Hi. What is the reason for cancelation? Thank you for choosing Office Chair@ Work..."
14) I replied: "Cancel my ### #### order! Reason: I changed my mind!"
15) I then received: "Your order cancellation and refund request has been received and will be processed if your order has NOT yet left our warehouse for the fulfillment center. If your order has already left our warehouse for the fulfillment center, we will be unable to cancel your order or issue a refund. Please allow up to 7 to 10 business days for your financial institution to post the credit on your account (see here https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/how-long-does-a-credit-card-refund-...). Please reach out to us if the credit has not posted after 7 to 10 business days at *******@officechairatwork.com. Thank you for choosing Office Chair@ Work..."
16) I replied: "That's a bunch of ########! I see you have already charged my credit card. I will have that charge reversed as soon as possible! Have a ####### glorious day!"
17) Many reviewers say at this point they try several times over several weeks to get a refund to no avail. Please Help!
18) I filed a report at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ and will contact the state of NJ Attorney General, the BBB and my credit card company.
