“I have only had Great Experiences”

I have made over 10 purchases in the past 6 years and I love it. I do not interact with anyone that has less than 10 sales and I always meet at a place like Walgreens or a gas station. I always meet during the day. The items are really great and some people are really just trying to make a few dollars or get rid of something I may need. I furnished my retail space with things from Offer Up and always paid 80 to 90 percent less than retail.

On or about September 2,2023, I purchased a modem from the website Offerup. When the modem came, it was discovered by Comcast that it was stolen. When I reached out to Offerup, I was told that I did not dispute the claim on time and due to their policy there was nothing that could be done. I even contacted the seller and they read the message with no response. I disputed the information with the bank. Several weeks later, the charge was reversed.

Please be aware of vehicle purchasing. I was in the market for a vehicle and thought I would go on OfferUp to find something affordable with no payments. I messaged the seller and I receive a email telling me they're selling the vehicle for someone else to contact them and I did. I get a email from that person saying they travel a lot and you have to send the money through eBay with no test drive. I told them the ad states it's in a city that I'm near why can't I go look at it and they kept coming up with so many excuses. Also they changed their name 2 times and also deleted their profile pic after I called them out for scamming and they never responded back. I also reported this to OfferUp and they still have the vehicle up for sale. I sent them the emails and everything. The price was to good to be true anyways so that's another way you can tell it's a scam.

I would like them to stop allowing cashapp or paypal seller's completely. And during the corona epidemic it be nice if mandatory mailing was a thing. Everyone wants a dam guest over.

I used to love this app and literally bought everything in my home when I moved from the app. But now I'm really sick and tired of the people I have been coming in contact with on OfferUp lately. I used to deal with people who respected each other's time, but now they make offers and don't respond to follow up, they cancel offers at the last minute because they didn't read the entire description, they expect the Seller to make themselves available to their schedule, or they just don't show up to meetings. It's just people looking for cheap stuff who aren't willing to pay decent prices.

I also hate that the app allows people to post the same item several times in order to get exposure. People do this to avoid paying to promote their item. And I am sick of all the people who appear to be selling items as an individual, when really they are a business. They do the same thing and post the same items multiple times, to the point that people assume I own a shop/business. At this point, the app is just a bunch of ads.

Verified purchase

I bought an item to be shipped to me. OfferUp says if not shipped by Seller in three days, the sale is cancelled. Not true. After six days, item was not shipped, OfferUp did not cancel the order, and OfferUp did not reimburse my bank account for the charge. Never again will I buy something onOfferup that includes shipping.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful. Lots of scam ads and low ballers

I've bought quite a few items and sold once or twice through offerup. It was easy meeting in person. Seems like now a search only brings up mostly items that are miles away, shipping only, posts that are years old and lots of ads. This new offerup sucks... J

I use Nextdoor, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp to sell things. This app is by far the worst. You have no way to renew your ads unless you PAY to "bump" them! In addition, for some reason, despite marking ALL my posts as "FIRM price" I get a ridiculous number of annoying low ball offers and questions in Spanish from weird viewers, most without photos or legit profiles. Waste of time.

If you forget your password, you go down a rabbit hole of clicking images that help train there AI, with no compensation. I expect to be paid after all that work, but instead, I get rewarded after 20 minutes by being allowed to try another one of my passwords. Screw it, I don't want to logon THAT badly.

The pictures you see are the attempt for trying one password! And the last capture has a slow fade in and fade out of the small boxes that you have a verified, adding another three minutes to the ordeal.

Offer Up is great because it has a system in place were users are verified, which gives buyers/seller a bit of feeling secure with whom you are dealing with on the site. That is if you carefully scan the site for True members and pass by those many many many seemingly shady postings. My main complaint with offer up is that to many members waste your time with questions, low ball price, make plans to meet then cancel at the last minute. Even is you mention on your post that you mark as "sold" once sold people still ask "is it still available?" or if you mention the price is "firm" they still offer a lower price or insult you with a ridiculous offer. In my opinion Offer Up should find a way for users to be more respectful of sellers time and be more serious about what they are interested in buying,,, Before I sell an item I must get 20-30 text daily. Then when I finally get someone who is serious and we make meet up arrangements I am always thinking they will be a "No Show", which has happened. Offer Up is not worth the aggravation and stress from people wasting your time with low balling, asking questions already outlined in the posting and last minute cancellations. There should be a way to monitor these people and close their account if there is an excessive pattern of wasting someone's time. I will be cancelling my membership...

We actually really liked Offerup. It was a great service and we were able to buy and sell a lot of thing. My husband built up some great reviews (5 star w/ abtou 40-50 reviews). There was one incident during the holidays where we sold a recently purchased record player to a woman. I still had the receipt from Best Buy and it was in perfect working condition. The woman reached out during a week time period in which we were in rural Montana and completely out of reach. She threw a significant fit and called us scammers and was so incredibly offense in her responses because it wasn't working. I get that it was emotional and she was frustrated but we literally did not get her messages because this was during the holidays and we were offline. When we finally got back online and back to California, we tried to reach out to her to give her a refund she had blocked us and apparently had offerup block us. I reached out to them SEVERAL times as well as her to resolve and explain the situation and offer a full refund but nothing. Offerup would not respond or even open back up the account even with all of our 5 star reviews. I understand how the misunderstanding happened but Offerup won't even respond... even to help us make things right. I don't think they're a 1 star actual product because they were fine as a product but terrible for service.

Been on it for a few months. The things that are wrong with it: It is a weakly maintained site as many times when posting it will not upload your pictures. Sometimes for a day or 2. Then it does. Then at times it blanks out all the views you have received of an item you have for sale. And then of course the bottom feeders regardless if you put price is firm. So out of maybe 20 things all priced fairly and in good to excellent condition I have posted I sold 2. The rest went to CL which mostly sold, which has actually IME has gotten better. And would never touch FB Marketplace.

Tried to buy from a reputable seller. After purchasing, seller politely explained state of item didn't match description and suggested I cancel the purchase, apologizing.
Guidance on website on how to cancel the order as the buyer was incorrect and options presented did not match the guidance. Customer service is handled through Twitter posts and DMs. After asking to use my e-mail to finish the support request, customer service hasn't followed up about it.
Issue was resolved with the seller external of support.

Would not use website again knowing that site personnel intervention is non-existent in case of an issue. If you order, know how to dispute credit card charges in case there is an issue.

I have reported over 100 scammers offering Rolex and other high end watches for under $500. They all have account dates of July 2022 and tell you to respond off platform. The accounts are all different, but the embedded contact info is always IG hypetime00. Apparently, they must get value from allowing these scammers to exist as they never do anything to stop them. Just look at the hundreds of newer Honda cars advertised for $800... At least Craigslist hammers scammers almost instantly.

Sometimes you'll get lucky to find nice things like electronics at good deals, but OfferUp SUCKS. They do Absolutely Nothing to remove scammers even after you report them. There is litterally NO-ONE working for them except someone who owns the app and makes money by "items people promote". It's a free-for-all for scammers with fake ad's from everything from Cars, video cards, cell phones, amd gaming consoles. At least 50-60% of all ads on "popular" items are scams.

I have been scammed several times using offerup.
Once I saw a carbon fiber tripod which was worth around $300 selling for $50. So I contacted the guy and arranged to drive 80 miles in order to meet him. When I was about 5 mins away from meeting him I checked the listing again and he had changed the price to $150! Once we met I said the price was agreed at $50 but he said his girlfriend told him he was giving it away and it was worth way more so he wasn't willing to sell it for less than $150. He knew at this point I had driven 1.5 hours to meet him and I was invested in time and gas so I was forced to agree to the $150. I felt he had used a scam to get me there and then bait and switch.
Another time I bought a brand new never used Nikon brand camera battery for my professional camera that sold for $140 + tax retail. This lady said she had a never used one brand new with packaging for $35. She said she sold the camera that she bought it for so she couldn't test the batter but I figured it was worth the gamble so I went. I again drove around 1.5 hours to meet her and buy the battery with cash for the stated price. Upon returning home and trying the battery out it turned out to be dead and wouldn't charge. It looked brand new but had been sitting dormant for too many years and became unusable. I messaged the lady and told her the battery was no good but she didn't respond to the three texts I sent her and I wasn't about to spend $25 in gas and 3 hours of my time to go get a $35 refund.
It seems eBay is more trustworthy because you can always open a case if the seller doesn't take the item back if it is dead on arrival. And since you pay with PayPal you will automatically get a refund. This is not the case when you meet someone face to face and pay cash. I have learned my lesson.

Through Offerup I found this guy JUSTIN who was selling 27 Kennedy half dollars for $50.00. I asked if he would take $45.00 and he said yes. I got only 19 of the coins and when I notified Offerup all they said was go to the police and report a crime and only then will Offerup consider helping me out. Offerup is not on your side when you have a problem. I tell ya to STAY AWAY from this company for they are not on your side.

Listings are only visible for about a week then the system expects you to pay $1.99 and up to promote your item (cost prohibitive for small item multiunit sellers). Nationwide shipping charge is $5 minimum enough to deter small item sales from ever happening (usps first class rate is $2.66). Lots of tire kickers be they local or nationwide. I did a few sales in 5/2018 then everything stopped. The only way to get more action is to painstakingly relist all my items. Not fun, inefficient and not a workable business model.

Offer up is great as long as the seller to true legit. Awhile back my boyfriends 20" was stolen from in front of a store, I kept telling him to not give up and to keep looking well sure enough almost one year later a 16 year old punk posted up my man's bike. We went and got his bike from this kid, and I reported to offer up that the post was a stolen bike they needed to one remove it, and request bicycle sellers to disclose the serial number to trusted personal with offer up so a check could be ran through bikeindex.com ensuring they are not promoting the sale of stolen goods. It took 2 months before they agreed to remove the post even after I sent them a copy of the police report. Clearly they dont care in sure they would if they themselves unknowingly got caught in possession of stolen property.
So just be aware of what you're buying before you buy it.

All offers for listings in this community are less than the asking price. On an average of 30%. This scavenger site and it's members are oblivious to average mark ups on consumer goods, which is far lower. DO NOT USE, unless you intend to give away your belongings, and in that case use charitable organizations. You will spend far less time than dealing with low ball offers from people that don't follow through. Deleted my account 11/24/19.

I was trying to contact a seller after making an offer. The seller needed sometime to think and respond which she told me. However later when I was trying reach the seller - all I saw was "Please refresh the page and try again". I messaged the seller on the message thread. It appeared the message was sent but however when I refreshed I saw the messages were getting lost. That is pathetic and less safe as well.

My son who just turned 18 and worked hard at his new job to purchase a phone decided to put his trust in OfferUp. He asked if he could use my Cash App because he just became old enough to get one literally a few days before. Long story short the great Seller asked for $250 in Cash App only and my son took the bait and did not know it was not trusted on the site. I contacted OfferUp and received a response telling me since he went through Cash App contact them and they did nothing. This item was never sent my son's money was taken yet there is an ipaddress info on Offerup and Social security number from the Cash App yet no one did anything now I have to make these good companies look bad due to Crooks. I have to file a police report press charges just because my son really trusted this site.

Today is January12,2020
I found the same info on Offerup and reported after I sent the Seller messages like I wanted to purchase as soon as he spoke about Cash App I think he noticed my last name from Cash App and stopped responding OfferUp needs to give my son his money so I don't have to get my sick self to the courthouse to catch coronavirus getting money back from a site I never had issues with ever until we used Cash App and not OfferUp payment methods it should not matter you have it on file get the person take ownership and OfferUp should prosecute it was on your website people! If I wasn't serious about prosecution I would show screenshots from the Seller and the responses from both sites that state sorry about your son's luck! Do not buy things from people that ask for direct payment off any sites because these Good Companies look very suspicious when you don't take action on Criminal Activity and this is a hundred percent truth I loved OfferUp until they scammed my newly grown son and have not went after the Seller or refunded my son's money back

Tip for consumers:
Don't use any other payments but the trusted site and make sure you get guaranteed refund option

I agree especially now that offerup is trying to get you personal information.

On july 10 I made a sale of $15 and buyer paid thru offerup hold and pay system. Offerup stated I will get $14.12 after their commission. Offerup asked for debit card information to deposit money which I did and till today I haven't got paid.

Today, after nine days I am asked for Full Name, DOB. Then it's asking my full address and part of social security number. Are you kidding me?

Guess, what direction offerup is heading to?

Folks, do cash sale or don't waste time.

The site does not seem to patrol itself or even care about what is going on. Lots of stuff posted by the same people over and over clogging up the site. I even found a car for sale from the same person in 10 different locations $10k under a normal price who would only accept email contacts. They need to step up the game like LetGo does you really don't see these problems there.

I hate Offerup. Unfortunately, when I have items to sell, they usually sell quicker on this app than anywhere else so I have to use it. I haven't experienced any major problems selling except for the ridiculous offers which I politely decline. I have had MAJOR problems buying however so I will no longer be buying anything on the app. Sellers I have encountered lately are so rude. They either won't respond or act annoyed if you ask questions because they've only provided one picture and one sentence. I'll stick to established retail stores even if it costs more. Customer service is so much better.
