RENTERS BEWARE! Where do I start? I've experienced some of the same problems that a lot of the customers have written about. First of all, I was sucked in by their extremely low rates. I thought I was getting a good deal. Boy was I wrong...
I rented a car at their Miami location. I knew when I rented the car that their office was off site and I would have to take 2 shuttles to get there, which I didn't mind. My problems started after I arrived at their business. Same thing others had problems with, I did too. They couldn't just take your Insurance card. They wanted you to present the Declaration page which I know most people don't carry w/them. (Luckily I had mine saved in my email). Then after employee looked over Declaration page, she told me they don't take my insurance and if I want to rent the car, I'd have to purchase their insurance. I told them I didn't need to purchase extra insurance since my insurance would cover rental car. I pointed out that it didn't say anywhere what insurance they accept and I was told it was noted on their website and I should've read the fine print. Really? I then asked them if I refuse their insurance what will happen. They told me I'd have to pay $2,500 deposit! I didn't have that amt. Available on my card.
I then told them I need to get to my hotel and I had to take the car. I asked if I could keep car for one day (I rented car for a week) and bring it back the next day and receive a refund and they told me no. I didn't want to continue to do business with this co. Since I realized they weren't honest.
I drove off before I completely looked over my contract. When I finally did look at it a couple of hours later, I noticed they added my insurance info to contract anyway even after telling me they don't accept my insurance. I was furious they added my insurance info. They already added their insurance so why would they need mine? Then it dawned on me; they probably never purchased extra insurance. I called Customer Service and I asked for THEIR insurance info and was told they'd email me the info, but they never did. When I inquired about this several more times they kept sending me a copy of my contract. I knew then they scammed me.
When I got home I first filed a dispute w/my bank and forwarded all my correspondences with NU to them. My bank took this into consideration that NU charged me for a service they didn't provide (fraud).
Since I rented this car from Priceline, I also called and talked to their supervisor about my experience w/NU. I told them that I'll check w/my nephew (lawyer) about filing a class action suit since they continue letting NU be on their website after receiving hundreds of negative complaints. They're not about protecting their customers; its all about $.
After renting cars for years I have never experienced anything like this. I had this stupid idea that all car rental companies are honest, but I was mistaken. I'm going to stay away from these fly by night, questionable car rental cos. And only rent from reputable rental agencies.
I'll continue to monitor Priceline and most of these travel sites to see if they're going to continue to do business w/NU. If so I'll move on to the next step.
Rental car
Dear,
I would like a make a complain about one of your partner as NÜ RENTAL CARS.
This company tries to get more money than the contract with some extra charges such as car upgrade. Extra tools etc. (on web site it says for free) in their San Francisco Office.
I rent a car through Priceline.com from Nu Rental Cars. Booking was prepaid and total cost was 43.34$. I walked to their office and greeted warmly by a lady. We started the process and she asked for signatures on a tablet. I filled the empty boxes with my signatures and when the process is finished I wanted to see the contract. However lady didn't even listened and went to computer side. When she came back with a box of car keys she chose 1 key between them first. She was holding the key of upgraded car key which is RAM 1500 LARAMIE CREW CAB 4X4. And then she asked for an insurance deposit as 600$. I was renting the car for only one day and i didn't wanted to give 600$ for 43$'s bill as you imagine. She laughed and said than you missed the "upgraded" car. And then she grab another key from the box and and asked for deposit as 300$ which was okay for me. The car was NISSAN VERSA. And at the beginning they never mention the car which they're going to give you.
When I return the car everything was fine, walked into the office and same lady said everything is fine so you can leave. I left the office.
About an hour later they charged me for 71.19$ for no reason. You may see the charge details as attached. I was informed that car is upgraded to RAM 1500. But as i said they gave me Nissan since I didn't want to leave 600$ deposit. On the receipt they mentioned as UPSELL. Which i never asked for and didn't even get the upgraded car. So I've charged 50$ more the service i never get. Plus, On their website it says TOLL FREE however I've charged for TOLL as 13.99$.
When I get back to them about the charges They just said charges will stand because you've signed the contract. It is totally fine but they mention everything wrong on their website. They don't even show you the contract properly even if you ask! This is not acceptable. And I am not the only person who had to face with same kind of issues.
All the things were happen was ridiculous! These guys are SCAMMERS AND THIEVES!
I just want you to report this unfortunate issue to your supervisors or managers.
Best Regards.
Re: NU Car Rental
5400 W Century Blvd Los Angeles, CA *******
*******025
Located in: The Westin Los Angeles Airport
I prepaid for my June 20-27 2022 LAX Nu rental car (reservation# *******340NU) rental car through third party, Priceline/Affirm.
Despite Nu rental car being fully aware and in receipt of my prepaid rental, they charged my credit card nearly $700 additional frivolous charges which will cost me over $100 in credit card interest.
When I took possession of the rental car, on Monday, June 20,2022, the vehicle broke down approximately 3-4 hours after I picked it up which I PROMPTLY reported to management AND l received a replacement rental car later the following day. Not only do I have all of my text message exchanges that support management being fully aware of the disabled vehicle and assisting me with filing the disabled vehicle report, I was also told to catch an Uber back to my hotel as well as Nu rental car management assured me they would reimburse my Uber and prorate my bill due to the vehicle breaking down.
Throughout my reporting the rental car breakdown, I agonized with the manager Porscha regarding my time sensitive surgery appointment that I traveled from Maryland to have and was scheduled for my surgery procedure early the next morning (which I also have documentation of).
During the conversation, Porsha made it explicitly clear that she was unable to get me a replacement rental that evening because her office was closed and she just picked up her newborn baby. When she informed me of having her newborn baby in the car, she expressed concerns about not feeling safe traveling downtown Los Angeles so she was limited in her options that evening. The ONLY immediate resolution she could offer is asking me to catch an Uber to my hotel then send her the receipts for reimbursement. Again, she was fully aware of my being in town for my early morning minor surgery appointment and assured me she would assist with the replacement vehicle once I returned from surgery. I also texted her a copy of my *prepaid* garage parking pass AND she spoke with the parking garage staff that attempted to assist me via speaker phone to advise of Nu rental car decision to leave the rental car overnight.
I feel it is also important to mention, when I discovered the way this company was handling my account, I researched the company and found a number of customers endured similar experiences with their rental car breaking down only to be charged astronomical fees and not given an explanation for the charges. The point that I am trying to make is the LAX Nu car rental in particular has an overwhelming percentage of customers that endured fraudulent charges on their credit card wherein nobody within the Nu car rental chain of command will answer WHYYYY they added the charges on prepaid rentals.
The following day, I communicated with Porscha to ensure she was still going to reimburse my Uber as well as deliver the replacement rental. While Porscha responded to my initial inquiries regarding this matter, she eventually stopped answering my texts and calls once she texted me and had the replacement vehicle delivered to my hotel. After discovering Porsha stopped returning my calls shortly after the replacement vehicle was delivered to me at my hotel, I made repeated attempts to speak with a manager regarding my Uber reimbursement and prorated bill. Not only did management ignore my calls, the local office told me they were inundated with customer requests so I need to give them time to investigate.
Within days of returning home to Maryland from my vacation, I noticed several charges on my credit card and called to inquire about the charges. I made NUMEROUS attempts to reach various levels of management and NOBODY followed through on my attempts to understand the charges. During this stage of my inquiry, even the rental car customer service office did NOT try to provide a response!
I eventually wrote a BBB complaint; filed a bank dispute; sent emails to Priceline and wrote a review. After a nearly two months, Nu Rental car sent me an email claiming I abandoned the rental car and it had to be towed when they were FULLY aware of the disabled vehicle! They outright IGNORED all of the irrefutable texts; recorded calls and videos that I sent to Nu rental car!
MOST IMPORTANTLY, A DISABLED VEHICLE WOULD HAVE HAD RO BEEN TOWED ANYHOW SO THEY PROVING MY SUSPICION THAT THEY'RE KNOWINGLY SCAMMING CUSTOMERS THAT FILED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS!
During this hellacious ordeal, the LAX manager Porscha also agreed to pay for my Uber AND reimburse the 1.5 day that I did not have use of the rental. Instead, they made excessive charges on my credit card and outright REFUSED to return any of my calls. I even sent management Uber receipts, videos and photos that they requested. Yet, during the first two months the rental car company outright ignored my calls and texts!
When I made REPEATED attempts to further investigate WHY they added charges to my credit card, Nu Rental car STILL would not give me any intelligible response other than the matter is being investigated. I then filed a complaint with Westin Hotel and Affirm. I wanted Westin Hotel to be aware of my experience as well as raise awareness of the company reviews due to Nu rental car refusing to answer my inquiry as well as transferring me back and forth to the line that was supposed to be designated for management only to be told that I should be speaking with the customer service department.
Once I became relentless in my inquiries/complaint, Nu rental car made false allegations claiming they charged my car due to the disabled vehicle twas abandoned! Not only do I have a plethora of text messages from the rental car manager Porscha that prove the company was fully aware of the rental car breaking down within a few hours of my driving the vehicle; I also have text messages that show the rental car manager Porscha had extensive conversation with me regarding their commitment to pickup the disabled rental car; she also asked me to submit my Uber receipts for reimbursement AND she facilitated the delivery of a replacement rental car to my hotel. I feel it is important to reiterate, Porscha actually spoke with the parking garage staff where the vehicle was disabled and asked permission to leave the vehicle overnight until she could make arrangements to pick the disabled vehicle up during business hours.
Given Porscha's request to leave the disabled vehicle at the garage overnight, I took thorough videos of the rental car for my records so it would be clear that I left the vehicle in pristine condition. When I did not receive clear answers about the charges, I sent the pictures and videos to Nu rental car to prove the pristine condition of the car when *the rental car company asked me to leave the vehicle in the parking facility where it broke down* and they will retrieve it in the morning. Despite the plethora of evidence that proves the rental car company was fully aware of the vehicle breaking down, they had the audacity to send me an email changing the story claiming that I abandoned the vehicle and it had to be towed.
When I continued to provide supporting documentation in my BBB complaint, Nu rental car changed their excuse for the charges yet AGAIN. They now claim that the charges are due to having the vehicle towed because I never prepaid for parking and that I never returned the keys to them which my text exchange with the manager, Porscha proves they LIED! The parking garage where the vehicle broke down was FULLY aware of the vehicle breaking down and gave permission for management to leave the vehicle overnight because the manager Porscha indicated they did not have anyone working after hours to pick up the disabled vehicle and she had a newborn baby as well as she did not feel safe driving to the location to pick up the car. Not only did I pay to park in the garage, management had sufficient opportunity to get the keys for the rental car. Instead, they outright LIED for the last three months and refused to return my calls! They not even acknowledging how a customer NEVER should have to deal with a disabled rental car which took significant time out of my vacation. Nor have they reimbursed for the Ubers as promised; they also have NOT prorate my bill for the time I did not have the rental. Instead they REPEATEDLY LIED which I will seek accountability!
I eventually received a call from the supposed Nu rental car risk management representative representative about two weeks ago. He was not the least bit of concerned about my evidence and claimed he would call me back within 72 hours which he NEVER followed through on! Instead, they submitted the final claim that the charges are valid due to the *disabled* vehicle having to be towed!
BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE AND THEIR BLATANT CUSTOMER ABUSE, I BELIEVE THEY'RE REMOTELY DISABLING VEHICLES IN THEIR SCAM WHERE THEY CHARGED OTHER CUSTOMERS NEARLY $700 EACH TIME THEY ENDURED VEHICLE BREAK DOWN!
Initially, I thought they might've been trying to charge me fees because the parking facility that they requested I leave the vehicle at charged them $15 for overnight parking. Whatever the case for such egregious charges, it is cruel to ignore a customer for several months then add astronomical fees on my reservation in addition to what I already paid for the rental car!
It should be further noted that Nu rental car has thousands of reviews that show other customers endured frivolous charges with this company. I am devastated beyond repair! I have two disabled children AND my dad has Alzheimer's Disease. My days are filled with taking care of family responsibilities. Meanwhile, this greedy unscrupulous company has abused the process of stealing money from customers!
This company is a MAJOR SCAMMER! I read their reviews and noticed many customers had similar experiences.
These criminals are going to JAIL for KNOWINGLY scamming customers! PLEASE INUNDATE LOCAL NEWS STATIONS; BBB; ATTORNEY GENERAL AND IMMIGRATION WITH COMPLAINTS TO SPEED THE INVESTIGATION UP!!
Rental car
NU Car is the worst I have have ever delt with. We had a resevervation with them in San Diego. We paid for our reservation in advanced... a week in advanced. The whole process after that was horrible. The directions as to how to get to NU car on the confirmation was not clear. After figuring out how to get to thier location and we called them to hav them pick us up. They said they had somone come every 15 min. We had to wait an hour... that is after we called. The company is onlt 7 min away. After we called back the person still had not left the place.
Once we got there the informed us that they did not have vehicle for us. The customer service was horrible. The lady at the counter and who we called continually was very rude and not helpful at all. She said she did not know when they would have a vehicle for us. She said she did not have our reservation. But I had printed off my confirmation and showed it to her. I showed her that I had prepaid. She said she still did not have a vehicle big enough for us. We had 7 people and 2 were little childern. Since it was not in the car rental place we are stranded. It was on the 4th of July weekend so screwed. As I said she was rude and not accomadating at all.
While I was there another lady came in and said they gave her a car without plate and she was pulled over ticked and the cop thought she stole the car and wanted to arrest her. She turned the car in and ubered! There was 4 of them. We were not so lucky. We were stranded.
Do not use this place. They are horrible. They will take your money and not give you a car. They have all these fees and will not help you out in any way. Needless to say it did not make our vaction very great. They are horrible in every way
none
Since the very moment the shuttle left you in the main front, you feel something is wrong. The offices are dirty, smelly, they are in the middle of scary neighborhood. This company is a gang of SCAMMERS. I rented a vehicle paid for 3 months in advance, insurance included. When I was at the counter, the MISERABLE in charge offered me another additional insurance. I refused. Ah, the problems began. They told me "I HAVE TO CALL THE SUPERVISOR TO APPROVE" I said..."approve what?"... After 10 minutes on the phone they started making stupid excuses... They said that when they swiped my card credit card for security deposit, my card was declined twice. I called my bank from the offices of these SCAMMERS and my bank told me that my card was not blocked. I asked them to try again. They did not want. I offered them another credit card and the MISERABLES told me no, they could only swipe one card and only 2 times. Then they told me that I could only use the card with which I had made the reservation. THE SCAMMERS DID NOT GIVE ME THE VEHICLE! I asked the MISERABLE at the counter to give me proof of the rejection of my card but the MISERABLE told me that he couldn't give me anything. They are a bunch of scammers! Do not rent with this garbage company because you will regret it. I HAVE A LETTER FROM THE SCOTIABANK BANK, ASSURING THAT THE DAY OF THE RENTAL MY CARD WAS NOT REFUSED, THAT THERE WAS NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO USE THE CREDIT CARD BY THE NU PROVIDER! THEY ARE SCAMMERS! BECAUSE OF THOSE MISERABLES I HAD TO RENT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT SAME DAY IN ANOTHER COMPANY AND IT COST ME 430 EXTRA DOLLARS WHEN I HAD PAID THEM 3 MONTHS BEFORE TO NU! DAMN SCAMMERS!
DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY.....YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! Check their reputation.....
Nothing. They did not give me a car U rented and I prepaid 3 month in advance. SCAMMERS!!!
I booked a rental car through Hotwire and had this horrible experience at the rental agency.
When I arrived to pick up the vehicle the attendant told me to email the declarations page from my insurance. She also told me that I must pay for the Toll system fee even though I had my own device to use.
Once she received the declarations page she indicated that I did not have enough insurance, my current coverage is $300,000/$500,000/$100,000 for Liability. $300,000 per person, $500,000 per occurrence, and $100,000 in Property Damage. This is the highest insurance coverage the carrier offers, there is no higher limit available. I also let her know that I had an umbrella policy, to which she said they did not accept umbrella policies.
I requested to see the policies where it indicated what the insurance requirements were. She provided a page that I have attached indicating that I needed to provide a $2,500 deposit if I was to decline the insurance and the Toll system fee. Mind you that the insurance that the rental company sells has a maximum liability of $75,000 and the one I provided is for $500,000.
I provided the credit card that I used to reserve the vehicle. The lady said that she attempted the charge and it was denied. I requested that she run it again and said she had to request permission to run it again. She said she ran it again and that it was denied.
I proceeded to call the card issuing company and was told that the charge had not been attempted. By this time the rental car attendant was helping another customer. Since I had the credit card company representative on the line, I tried to get her attention but she refused to even acknowledge me. I asked the person on the phone to please wait for a moment but the rental car agency lady simply refused to even look at me or help me in any way. I had to hang up with the credit card representative since I was getting nowhere with the rental car company and wait my turn.
Finally, it was my turn again and I requested that she run the card again, once again she said she had to ask for permission to run the charge again. She said she ran it and declined again. I requested a receipt of her running the card and she fumbled with the machine for a while and would not give me the receipt.
I then asked if she would run any one of my other credit cards to pay for the deposit, she said she had to call and get permission to do so. Out of frustration, I laughed, she kept saying she needed permission but she never requested permission from anyone. At that point she said I was laughing at her, I said I was not, I was just frustrated, but she was not going to have it, she told me to get out and that she was not going to rent to me because I was laughing at her.
I called and texted HotWire and they told me it was a non-refundable rate and I did not have the required insurance (which I have), so it was on me and there would be no refund processed.
Clearly the rental car company lowballs the rental rate and tried to upsell me services that I did not need and was not going to rent to me since I did not get any of their ridiculously overpriced items that I did not need.
Stay away! unless you want to pay fees
