Have a pending transaction with Netspend for 2 weeks and Netspend won't release funds back to my account. The merchant (my Credit Union) has verified they don't see transaction to verify, accept, or cancel. Netspend has a moving target as to when the funds will be put back into my account. First it was Jan. 19, then Jan. 24 and now who knows... On vacation and really need the funds. ($1318)

I have been a NetSpend customer for about 5 plus years sadly due to the decline in American standards of business practices and out sourcing to foreign countries I will never in life recommend NetSpend to anyone I know even if they were to pay me. It started when I asked to dispute a transaction. Then from there they deactivated my card without my permission which still has money or it 5 dollars no big deal. Also I just used my card that day the automated service told me I hadn't used the card in 365 days which I had used it that day. I tried to have it cancelled which the foreign entity told me I have to be transferred to another useless foreign entity to cancel guess what I'm cutting the card up and discontinuing its use and im going to get a american bank account. My advice to anyone that has this service dump it asap. Maybe one day when they get American entities to start handling their business matters I might change my mind until then their services are trash and worthless and useless great job NetSpend by the way I only gave it one star because I had to pick something the rating I really wanted to give would have been 1/4 of star

Do NOT get this card if you want to transfer money from your Wells Fargo account to load the card. WF does NOT allow money into Metabank, which is the associated bank of Netspend. Why? Must be a good reason. Suspicious. Very inconvenient to drive to a refill location just to load the card and send $ to someone. Wish I would've known this, I never would have gotten a Netspend card

Like other financial companies, we are required by our bank, as well as MasterCard and Visa associations, to be compliant with AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) laws. Both laws require that all financial institutions verify the identity of each account holder.

This means that we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and your government ID number during the activation process. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying information. Card activation and identity verification are required before you can use the Card Account.

I in a co-worker both have NetSpend, our direct deposit from our employers go to NetSpend. A month ago my co-workers NetSpend account was hacked, a purchase was made on his account that he had no knowledge of and had not authorized. A month after that I find out that my account has also been hacked to the tune of hundreds of dollars. It seems that a foreign company was was taking money from my account a little bit at a time sometimes four or five times in that day and I never got one alert about the money that was being taken from my account. The amounts that were taken should have made NetSpend curious because the same company using two different accounts were taking the same amount out four or five times a day and then they finally hit it in a bigger amount and this went on for months. The only way I found out about it was because I have a separate account with Bank America Bank of America when I talk to the reception receptionist so the bank manager about it they asked to see statements of my account with NetSpend. Bank of America pull those account numbers and did a little investigation themselves and found out these companies truly don't exist there is an account and the money is going to those accounts but the account is one account not two. So I filed a dispute claim with NetSpend, and as soon as I filed the dispute claim NetSpend locked and closed my account out completely said that risk management closed my account with money still on my account or in my account I should say. And I was told that I wouldn't receive my money on their account for 10 business days. So I have no way of knowing what the investigation is going to lead them to I have no way of knowing where they are with this investigation. And since they've blocked my account they could literally just say forget it and not pay me a dime of my money back period and I'm talking hard it's a dollars. So in the long run if you're trusting NetSpend to secure your money, I wouldn't trust them to secure a penny of my money.

This review's title was absolutely the final aggravation with this card for me.

To stick to the main point,
6 years with this god forsaken headache called Netspend, and my card kept getting "LOCKED".
- both online and offline
- they claim it was "suspicious activity"... blah-blah-blah... & the lock was FRAUD PREVENTION blah-blah-blah... etc etc...
- the customer service phone call YOU MUST MAKE to get the card "UnLocked" is PATHETIC.
- I asked (approx 2 hours ago) a NetSpend Customer Svc Agent where they were and all they would reply is that the company is in Texas... I had to make 3 calls to speak with 2 Cust Svc Agents, suffer nearly 1.5 hours ON CRAPPY CALLER ON-HOLD MUSIC waiting to speak to somebody in total (includes the 2nd call which I gave up on cuz I had to use restroom and I refuse to take my phone into the restroom as a personal practice). The 1st Cust Svc agent I spoke to had a distinct middle eastern accent but when asked would only say the company was based in Texas, and the other Cust Svc agent had a can't miss carribean accent (think Jamaica or Bahamas) and gave the same stock reply as the previous one. They are obviously online remote workers (cyberagents) who probably work for an online call center type outfit that farms out the calls to work-from-home folks. And it shows. I have a Samsung S21 which has excellent audio and 1st-tier ($$$) phone service and calls to those folks sounds like they have their phone in a bowl of tomato soup half the call... On top of that what little you can hear you can make out like the person is not at a real office, scraping & scratchy type distracting noises, like you hear when talking to someone who has their phone crooked between thier chin and their shoulder while multi-tasking something else... it's REALLY ANNOYING... so that inevitably you can BARELY audibly make out what the Cust Svc agent says, compounding an already present harshly-accented-english --- If you are reading these reviews on the fence about whether to get a card, BEWARE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED... I truly do wish I were making ANY of this stuff up,,, but sadly I'M NOT... It's all TRUE!

And I'll wrap this up just by reminding the title of this review that if you happen to use a VPN service ((( I use ProtonVPN and it's great, along with ProtonMail also great - a really much better user interface than free services ur already familiar with, and it's dirt cheap when you realize what ur actually getting in return for the few coin it costs... ah, but I digresss... lemme get back on track...)))

Those BOZOs don't seem to respect that VPN's a commonplace now. Not only are they advertised all over the place in all mainstream media, VPNs are built right into Windows Operating Systems...

But yet they have the audacity to give you an ultimatum that you MUST log-in to NetSpend.com from a PC with VPN turned OFF or the log-in attempt will fail and YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE LOCKED, ***IMMEDIATELY*** and a phone number will be displayed onscreen YOU MUST CALL TO THOSE INCOMPETENT BUFFOONS TO GET IT "UNLOCKED"... etc. Etc. Etc... 100% pure truth...

May god watch over your soul, whoever you are who dismisses what you just read as some drivel posted by some guy who sounds like in real life he is the type of neurotic misfit in Woody Allen movies back in the day... I promise you I do not look anything like Woody Allen and I am a level-headed competent smart and fairly stable well grounded person, probably like you may be yourself...

good luck to you... and just know somebody TRIED to tip you off...

I'm a REAL person,,,,,,,, and NOBODY PAID ME A DIME... have a good day!...

Tip for consumers:
These people actually charge you ( $ 15.00 ) FIFTEEN DOLLARS USD when you decide to close your account. It's in "the fine print" and of course they let you know that during you in process of terminating your account... just so ya know... 100% true... no joke !!!! ____ you just can't make this crap up !!! ____

Netspend has some positive features, they do have overdraft protection for anyone who has direct deposit and their online banking website is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. However, you do have to pay a monthly fee for the overdraft protection feature and to prevent from being charged a fee for every transaction made. My biggest gripe with Netspend is the inconsistency in when your direct deposit appears in your account. At first, the pay I receive from my employer would appear on Wednesdays every two weeks. However, it appears after a while, direct deposit transactions from the same employer were showing up later and later. My last payday, for example, I got paid Thursday morning around 5 am. This week is another payday for me, and I have yet to see my paycheck appear in my account, which has caused significant inconvenience for me. With that said, I'm going to switch to another online bank.

Submitted a claim in May 7,2021 with 33 unauthorized transactions that exceeded $750. Netspend only has provided a "provisional" credit for 13 of these transactions that occurred within a 3-day window by the same company. They are niw telling me the claim won't be settled or complete their "investigation" until August 2021. They won't provide me with any written narrative of what they are doing and why. Written detailed info was submitted with each transaction amount & date.
