I have been in the home since 05/20/2024 and officially moved in on 05/23/2024. This has been a horrific experience dealing with your property management company. When I moved into the home there were several things wrong with my home that took almost five months to complete. One of the major issues with my home was that there was a major leak in my home that caused an increase in my water bill. It took Main Street Renewal 3 times to come out and actually fix the issues properly. I had to call Main Street Renewal to advise you all that I was receiving messages from my water company that water was running, and I had to pay over $500.00 to keep my water on. I have called MS Renewal several times to get a receipt for the plumber and MS Renewal keeps sending inaccurate info to help me get an adjustment on my bill with the city of Fort Worth Water. When I spoke with Ivan, he promised to give me a credit on my rent for the accusive fees and payment from the Water company. My rent hasn't been adjusted nor has anyone reached back out to me. On 11/08/2024 I submitted a request to have an early termination on my lease due to my daughter being mental ill and having to move back to TN where her medical doctors can assist with her condition and provide medical assistance and medication. I have emailed, posted on the portal and sent over police reports and medical information advising of her condition. Christopher Gomez Sibaja advised that the reason he denied my request was because the Police and medical documents were dated for 2023 when the reports clearly say January and June 2024 and he closed my case on 11/28/2024. I then spoke with Alliziar (who was so attentive and through) on 12/02/2024 who advised that he had escalated the request and that I should hear a response on the following day. I called on 12/03/2024 and spoke with Sebatian (CSR), Kevin (supervisor WHO HUNG UP ON ME), Shane (CSR) and Mark A. (CSR) and they all have either hung up on me or had the unwillingness to assist. Luigi called on 12/04/2024 and advised that "based on the documents provided, he doesn't see a reason as to why my request we would be denied" (per Luigi). Luigi advised the CSR hat he would call me back on 12/05/2024 within 20 minutes and we have NOT heard from him. It's been days since we've heard from him. I have been recording the calls where on 12/06/2024 I was hung up on by Mario, Gyro, Bryan and Kevin (12/05/24) and on (12/06/2024) I was hung up on by Ashley and Michael. I have been waiting on a decision since 10/28/2024 and NO ONE will assist me.
Please don't rent from these folks. Let's begin with the business address listed aren't real addresses. They are PO Boxes you will never meet one of the people you talk to on the phone.
I moved into my home in January 2023 and moved out January 2024.
Everyone was so helpful until I paid the deposit and signed the lease... everyone went ghost after that. It was like pulling teeth to get information about my move in
When you tour the home they don't have have electricity or water on so you if you work and visiting in the evening bring a flashlight. Once I moved in I discovered the dishwasher was broken (water gushes out of the bottom, the microwave didn't work, the kitchen sink pipes had roots in it so it constantly flooded, the stove had 10 years worth of grease build up. It took me 2 hours to SCRAPE it clean. The fridge was also pretty gross.
They never fixed or replaced the appliances, it took 3 weeks to get the sink fixed. They only called in someone after I threatened to go to court. Fortunately, I had my own appliances, so I replaced them and happily reinstalled their broken units before I moved out. Yes, reinstalled them because they wouldn't even come to pick them up.
On one occasion they did show up for a maintenance issue only problem. I hadn't reported one. I stopped reporting issues months prior because I would take off work and sit and wait but they never show up. They finally admitted to being at the wrong house but only after charging me $100 for a missed appointment. Not one time have I had an appointment with them and they kept it. Funny how it works but in order to get paid I have to show up at work and I've lost too much money sitting around waiting for them to not show up on many occasions.
When I submitted my move out notice. They sent an email telling me the move out walk through was. No call to schedule just an email saying we're coming January 4th and it's a 2 hour window. I responded with "what will the 2 hour window be" and never got a response.
A few days prior to the scheduled visit I called to confirm the 2-hour window and was advised it would be between 8am-10am. I had already moved out but of course I went over and waited...and waited...and waited. Once again, they never showed up. I called, they apologized and said someone would call to reschedule and yes, I admit when they called, I told them NO. I was no longer in the area, and I was not going to travel back for an appointment that they likely would come to anyway.
I told the guy on the phone the home was clean and definitely in better condition than I left it to which he responded "I'm sure it is. The homes aren't great".
It's been a month now and I just received a statement in the mail saying that I will only get $196 of my $1650 deposit. Let me be clear and honest here... I did not pay the prorated January rent (because I'm sure they'll comment to this saying but you... you... you...) So, I expected the $585 to be taken out of the deposit. After the no show on the move out walk through, I didn't trust them to give the full deposit back, so I wasn't going to give them the $585 hoping to get the deposit back. Thank God I kept my little money. Since move out they billed me $230 for cleaning (I left the house spotless). Another fee for carpet cleaning (I had the carpet steam by professional and there were no stains prior to the cleaning therefore none after). All wood flooring was swept, mopped and the garage was completely cleaned out as well.
They even charged me to repaint. I never painted when I was there as I had no intentions on staying after the first year. When did it become the previous tenant's responsibility to paint for the next tenant. There was also a fee to change the locks. They claim was I didn't give them the access code. I told them you didn't answer the phone, return the call, read the email, you didn't call me when you arrived and couldn't get in or bother to show up for the move out walk through. All of this could have been handled if they just communicated and kept their end of the agreements.
But all this and the deposit refund of $196 also wasn't included in the envelope with the statement of bogus charges.
BUGS!
The bugs were everywhere! My daughter works for a local pest control company so I was fortunate to not have to add this extra bill. But with the old leaky windows, humidity and cracks in the door frames it was a fun house for every creepy crawly to get in, live and bread.
In addition: I have a coworker that also rents from them. Upon move in she told them that deck outside of the master bedroom was a bit rocky. She came home from work on day and they had torn it down. She called to ask when they would repair/replace the deck and they responded with "what deck?" Mainstreet is a fraud!
Rented Home
PLEASE avoid this company. My partner and I read the reviews before signing a lease and saw some good and some bad and decided to take our chances because we really liked the house - there were new appliances, fresh paint, fresh flooring, and it all looked good. The approval process was easy. Boy, were we in for a surprise.
The house was a cheap flip and it showed. The microwave was hanging on the wall and would swing forward when opened. None of the shelves (literally, not one) was hung on the studs, so they all fell within the first 2 months of living there. The house itself was more humid than the Amazon Rainforest. The master bath did not even have a vent, so we got mold. I believe (allegedly, for legal reasons) this is what made my senior dog so sick that it caused two hospitalizations.
When maintenance did come out to fix issues, it would take at least a month for them to come out, every time. Sometimes they would not come out for 2-3 months. The maintenance sent out was the same person for everything. When the maintenance worker did come out, most of the time the issue was not fixed correctly. A light was 'fixed' by the maintenance worker and within 3 months the fixture fell of the ceiling. On two occasions, a maintenance day was scheduled and the worker showed up on a different day than what was given to us. When we explained we needed to reschedule, the maintenance request was deleted altogether, with no explanation.
Our garage ceiling started to crack and fall and got worse every week. We put in a high urgency request but we did not hear back from Main Street for weeks. We were told that they would assess whether or not it was urgent. When maintenance did come out to "fix it", it was still falling apart.
Within 3 months of living at the house, we were randomly charged $40 utility charge for gas. This was a mistake as we had our own gas company. We brought the attention to Main Street and they NEVER fixed it. We sent multiple emails, multiple texts, and had multiple calls. We were told on multiple occasions this charge is erroneous and would be taken off of our account, since we proved we had our own gas provided. 7 months later on a call with Main Street to discuss this issue AGAIN, we were told an email would be sent to the billing department (we had already been told this 5 times). We asked for the contact information for the billing department and were told we cannot contact them, they do not have a phone number or email contact and can only be reached by the Customer Service Team, not the renters. Not once did we hear back from the 'billing department' (doubtful that one even exists) nor did we ever hear back from Customer Service regarding the charge that they told us we did not owe. We never paid it and ended our lease without paying it.
Main Street's Customer Service Department is a joke, they do not fix any issues, they just tell you the same thing over and over and never get anything done. The houses are poorly flipped and cheaply 'upgraded' to look pretty but have zero functionality and are falling apart. Living in this house was a nightmare and Main Street Renewal made it the worst imaginable experience. Do NOT give these people your money. They DO NOT care about the quality of your home or your living experience. All they want is money and don't care whatsoever about how they get it or how cheap they have to be. I will literally never rent from Main Street again and if you're smart you won't either.
Let me start by saying I would give this company 0 stars if I could. I should have paid more attention to the red flags. I applied for a property for a $50 application fee. After not hearing from anyone on the 3rd day I called to check the status of my application and was told that the property that I applied for is no longer available due to a possible squatter situation and I will need to another property around the same amount and that there should not be an issue with getting approved. I told the agent that I didn't see anything else in the area and I needed to stay in that school district because of my son. I was told to wait and give them 24 hrs. To verify if the property was empty. I waited 48 hours then I called back and was told they still didn't have conformation that the property was empty. I was also told that my application fee is only good for 30dayd and if I can't find anything then will have to start the process all over again. I told the agent that on the site it stated the property will be available on 10/15//2023 and we are 7 days away from the date and my application fee will expire on 10/16/2023 I completed the application back in September. She said she will get confirmation by the end of the day if the property was vacant. I got and email saying that the property is vacant, and I am approved. I needed to get access to the property to see inside. I was given a code by rently to get inside to see the home. I had access to the property that same day I advised of some issues with the property and was told it would be taken care of before moving in I also told the agent that there was not water or electricity. I was told that it will be my responsibility to have the utilities turned on at the same time pay the deposit within 24 hours of the approval and get the lease signed. This all happened so fast, but I needed the place, so I paid the deposit and signed the lease. It all went down from there after I paid the deposit, I call the same phone number and was told I am now a tenant, and I will need to submit a maintenance ticket after moving in for the issues. I asked who I needed to speak to into the property the get the water connected I placed an order to have utilities started but there needed to be an adult 18+ for get access. I was told that I needed to have utilities started 5 days prior to move in I told her that I was just approved and paid my deposit, and I am trying to get the utilities started but I need to get back into the property. I was told I needed to pay my prorated rent to get access, so I did. After getting the access to the portal and getting a receipt of payment I called back to get access to the property so that I can have the water turned on I was told that I can't get access to the property until move in date which was 10/16/2023 Monday. Now I have some concerns, I told the agent that I need to make sure all the appliances are working properly no leaks and toilets are working and electricity. I was told the property is rented AS IS. This is not a purchase it's a rental and it needs to be livable. I called back and was routed through to a call center to be told that an agent will contact me within 24-48 hours. There was a huge language barrier, so we didn't have communication at all. Fast forward to move in day. I DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE PROPERY I WAS GIVEN A CODE TO A LOCK BOX WHEN THE PROPERTY DIDN'T HAVE A LOCK BOX IT IS A SMAT HOME… I called and was told that there is not a physical leasing agent in my area, and I should have already gotten the code to the smart lock from rently. I called rently and was told that they are a 3rd party and once the property is leased, I will need to contact my local leasing agent. I feed defeated at this point. 3 hours later I get an email welcoming me to the home with a code … I missed a delivery for appliances I have no water not sure it the electricity was ever started. I was out of $3200.00 I didn't take possession of property. I called the company and stated I was not moving in its starting out bad and I needed to know what I needed to do to cancel this process. I was told that they will have someone to call me back. The next day I got an email saying that I will need to log onto the portal and schedule a move out. I never moved in. I called and got the moving out team that told me they don't have an early termination policy, so I am responsible for the rent through 10/16/2024. I lost my S#$%. I said what about when you lease this property to the next person. She said that once the property is leased, I will no longer be responsible for the rent. The property is still not listed to be leased so now they are trying to leave me with the bag.
**DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY**
***REPORT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AT ONCE**
ONE OF THE WROST HOME RENTAL PLACES EVER. THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE FLAGGED TO THE BETTER BUSINESS Better Business Bureau.
We were scheduled to move in on July 1st, 2023 which is today. We paid all our fees and made sure to communicate with main street about the home and everything that came with it. We set up all the utilities and made sure that when we moved into the house we would be ready to go. We have a 15th month old so you can only imagine how it is to pack and move from Maryland to Atlanta. The house that we selected was 3689 Winding Trail Dr Douglasville, GA *******. Since we were out of state we requested a friend to go see the property and she was only available on the weekend. They gave us a code she can use and when she got there the code wasn't working. We called Main Street and told them there is no way for us to view the property again and they informed us that our approval was only valid for 30 days so we went ahead and decided to go with the house since they guaranteed the house is inspected and fixed before we move in. On 06/28 they sent us an email saying that 'hurray maintenance request is complete.' Then they called us and told us we have to set up utilities before the 1st and gas had to have someone physically present at the house. Per the conversation, maintenance was not available in the entire state of GA so we had to drive down before to ensure that the gas is fixed. Meaning we paid for a hotel for that night which is the 30th.
The 10-hour drive ended up being 16 hours because of our toddler. 12.01 am and still no access code to the house. We left the hotel to come to see the house but we couldn't access it because we didn't get the codes. You can imagine how we feel coming down and when we reach the home we saw that nothing absolutely nothing had been fixed in the home. The house had not been cleaned or even prepared for anyone to move in and live in. The toilets had not been washed the dishwasher smelt of mold, there is mold under the sink. In the garage, the microwave was just thrown in the corner. The stove is rusted and there are even cobwebs in the kitchen. The house was and is as of now 07/01/2023 a complete mess.
THE HOUSE IS UNLIVABLE AND NO ONE CAN EVEN LIVE IN IT.
We processed to contact main street to get see if they can get someone to come and fix it and they told us that they had to put in a ticket. I am assuming we were speaking to someone who was not even in the country because they were not responsive at all and could not give us any answers. The answer we got was we cannot give a guarantee of anything, only the internal team handles that.
We asked Chris from Main Street Renewal if the house can not be fixed would we be reimbursed for the days that we have not lived there and he told us that we may not get reimbursed even though we did not even move in.
We asked if we could be relocated to a home that is ready and Chris told us that we would have to terminate this lease agreement and it could take up to 30 days for someone to get back to us EVEN THOUGH THE HOUSE IS NOT LIVEABLE AT ALL IN SUCH CONDITIONS. Please note at this time we are spending money living in a hotel which per the company is at our own expense yet they cannot complete their contractual obligation. So now we are wondering what are we supposed to do. Our Uhaul is due tomorrow but we have nowhere to put our stuff. Of course, they don't care so they won't refund us for anything. At the least, a manager should have called but customer service chats are the only way to reach anyone
THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS TENANTS ITS ONLY OUT TO SCAM YOU AND KEEP YOUR MONEY. IF OUR RENT WAS DUE AND WE WERE TREATED THE WAY THEY HAVE TREATED US WE WOULD BE PUT OUT THE HOME AND RUIN OUR CREDIT.
WE MAY NOT GET A RESOLUTION IMMEDIATELY BUT ONE DAY SOMEONE WILL SEE OUR COMMENTS AND USE THIS TO CREATE THEIR NEWSPIECE. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY AND MAKE SURE TO REPORT THEM TO THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES.
Since the first week we moved in here, we have had nothing but problems.
First, the house was remodeled before we moved in, and the quality of the work was absolutely TERRIBLE. Shoddy, cheap and if you scratch the surface on anything, underneath you discover a disaster that would never pass inspection.
Second, every time something goes wrong and I enter a ticket to get help, it takes WEEKS for absolutely anything. The latest is that my brand new dishwasher (that supposedly was installed just before we moved in last November) suddenly stopped working. I entered a ticket more than a month ago, and they have now routed it to an electrician. When I spoke to the electrician's office, they told me that they have informed Main Street that they could not fix it, and that the ticket needed to be routed to appliance repair instead. (Even worse, I entered 4 tickets at the same time -- one for mold on the bathroom wall, one for cracks in the ceiling and one for cracking/peeling siding on the back of the house; those all got denied as "cosmetic" and unnecessary. Two days later I opened a ticket because of an insect problem on the outside of the house, and no one has even bothered responding to THAT one.)
Third, their online payment system is terrible. I have had to set up my automatic payment for my rent multiple times, and multiple times it stops working with no explanation.
Fourth, their customer service is terrible. After wasting weeks trying to get help or updates via email, I switched to text because they insisted that was faster. This morning I texted them, and then five hours later they finally got back to me. And because I was at work, five minutes later they sent me a message saying, "Hello, we have not had a response from you in the past 5 minutes." And so they unassigned that rep to me. When I got back to them, they asked me to confirm my identity -- which I did in my first text this morning. When I told them I already sent them that information, they told me they couldn't see the text history. So how are they supposed to look up the ticket number I gave them?
I am literally at the end of my rope with these people. My husband is a handy man, and so we normally fix all of our own stuff. I have very, very low expectations of most management companies, but these guys are so terrible that I can't wait to get out of here. When we moved in we had planned to stay for at least two years for our family reasons, but these guys have been so miserable to deal with that I'm getting out of here as soon as possible.
I wish that ZERO stars was actually an option.
I find it sad when you have individuals that are put in a position where they are able to help someone in their time of need, but could truly care less whether help is rendered or not. MSR leasing department in San Antonio, Texas, is the worst. If you are using a housing voucher, steer clear of this company. They take your money and stall you out until you lose your voucher and have nowhere to stay. They don't care if you have kids or a family or not. Or maybe its just my ethnicity they don't care about. I qualified for one of their homes that I thought my application was put towards. Come to find out, I was lied to about that. They give you a certain amount of time to get all your paperwork to them but delay the process of getting things done on their end. I did everything and sent everything they needed to be approved for the home. I got approved, got scammed out of my application fee, and lost my housing voucher in the process. And to think they care if a family is left to live on the streets. Or maybe because of my ethnicity(I will keep stating this because there is no evidence showing I made myself be denied). I provided everything to where there was ample time for my paperwork to get to the housing authority and be processed before my voucher expired. And the crazy thing is, my voucher is still valid. But because I was stalled on having my application not being forwarded to the home I chose, me not being able to get a voucher extension,(for a voucher that's still valid), and their policy which states, "HCV applicants aren't allowed to apply to "Available Soon" homes and their voucher has to be valid throughout the entire application process." Now the problem with this is that the home I chose was supposed to be under my application on the 4th of May 2023.(I have an email to prove this.) Then all the information that was requested from me was submitted. The home I chose said, "Available Now," and it still does. (Again, I have emails to prove this. I also have emails showing I had been reaching out to find out if there was any other information they needed from me. I never received a response until the 24th of May 2023.) I received a very disturbing email. That entire time of having everything they needed to process my application, including a still valid voucher, they can no longer move forward because I don't have a voucher extension past May 31,2023. Which is MSR's policy. They were sitting on my application. And because my application was put towards the home(I requested) on the 24th of May 2023(instead of the 4th of May 2023). Now, the time frame does not allow the process of my application to move forward, according to MSR's policy. My caseworker reached out to MSR to explain that all they had to do is complete the RTA so I could turn it in. Mind you, throughout the whole ordeal, of me emailing them back and calling, they were complaining about a voucher extension when they could have been filling out my RTA packet. This is why I feel I have been discriminated against. I did my part and got approved. You prolonged the process of my application, denied me, robbed me of my application fee, and made me lose my housing voucher. I am quite sure if I was Hispanic, things would have gone totally different. And yes, the leasing agent over my application can see my ethnicity from my email. There's not one valid reason why the leasing agent couldn't have processed my application on time. We are still in the month of May.
Main Street Renewal is by far the worst management company I have ever dealt with. They use a keyless entry system that doesn't work right and they won't give you a key to your own door as a backup for when the keyless entry doesn't work. Mine has been broken since the day I moved in. It has unlocked itself while I was at work and I found my dogs outside three different times. My grandson can't get in or out of my house because of the lock not working right. They send their one and only "technician over to fix it and he never fixes anything. He tried to fix the lock situation by removing the strike plate and damaging in the door frame - left it that way and closed the work order. Have had plumbing leaks and other issues that do not get fixed because that "technician" just agrees that it's broke then leaves and closes the work order. He complained that he was the only one in all of tucson fixing over 700 houses and told me that I should just breach my lease contract and remove the keyless entry box from the door myself because they will never fix it. One of my bathroom light fixtures was installed upside down. Every towel bar and toilet paper holder was installed incorrectly and crooked so they fall apart any time you touch them. Floor trim pieces were stuck down with caulk incorrectly so they won't stay attached. The pipes under the sink are not secure so if we don't keep pushing them back together every few days we flood out the cabinets under the sinks. The online portal is not user friendly - doesn't allow for you to put in any kind of work order other than what they suggest. They have now sent me three different schedule dates for the same repair. One was for the 17th that they sent me yesterday. Today, Tuesday the 9th, I got an email that said my appointment is in two days on Wednesday. Then another email that says the 17th again. I have no idea when the appointment is actually scheduled for, but I do know that they are sending out that same "technician" that has already looked at some of these items 3 times now with no repairs being done - only additional damage to my front door jamb. I waited on hold for over two hours yesterday to try to talk to someone before I had to hang up. Today I get a person that barely speaks English so I couldn't understand anything she tried to tell me. I am beyond frustrated! And, I am a real estate broker and property manager myself so I know that this is not how they should be doing business! This is probably my 3rd or 4th post about this company, due to the fact that the progressively get worse by the day. My oven stopped working a WEEK ago, and supposedly the maintenance man (who will remain nameless... for now) ordered a new one and would come put it in as soon as it was delivered. I was told that he would be the one that the order was assigned to so that this could happen sooner than later. Needless to say, this was BS. I get a message stating that maintenance will not be here about my stove until May 14, which for one is Mothers Day and two, it is a SUNDAY, then to top it off, I don't even know if they are coming to just look at the oven (which they usually do come just LOOK and then have to wait however many more days for a bid to be approved and then more days if it is approved for them to come back and replace it/"fix it") or if they are coming to replace it! This is also an additional WEEK without a working OVEN or a STOVE in my house. Apparently to these people this is not considered an emergency, which doesn't surprise me, because to them no hot water in the winter due to a malfunctioning water heater was not an emergency either, but a 'luxury". I have reached out to so called "management" and was told I would receive a call back, still have not gotten a call.
They constantly try to add additional charges and send constant emails stating that rent is coming up soon and send multiple emails about anything that has to do with money, but never about them actually coming in a timely manner to actually FIX something properly. Mainstreet is lucky that I even still send them rent, due to how much they truly SUCK and could careless about their residents.
I have been here since August of 2022 and it is current May of 2023 and I have had to call about something needing to be fixed in this house at LEAST once a month since we moved in. None of these issues have been small and to them none of them have been important enough to get to my home sooner than a week after the request is put in... everything from a broken water heater, leaking dishwasher, vent in bathroom fell from the ceiling onto my spouses back after supposedly being repaired, tub leaking, outlets not working in 6 places in the house and now my oven/stove! If moving was not so time consuming and expensive, I would break my lease TODAY and move somewhere else. I did not have this many issues in an apartment. MAINSTREET RENEWAL IS THE WORST! AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF POSSIBLE! *NEGATIVE 4 STARS*
